This book is a continuance of the topic: “DAMPs in Human Diseases”, the basics of which were described in a first volume by the same author. Hierzu gehören das Kinin-, das Komplement-, das Gerinnungs- und das Fibrinolysesystem wie auch das unspezifische und spezifische Entzündungs- und Immunsystem. Diese aktivierten Systeme dienen einerseits der Begrenzung und Ausheilung der ursprünglichen Schädigung, können bei persistierendem oder sich verstärkendem Schaden aber auch in eine sich selbstverstärkende Aktivierungsspirale münden, in einen Teufelskreis, welcher im primär betroffenen Organ dessen teilweise oder vollständige Funktionsunfähigkeit bewirkt, bei Versagen der lokalen Regulationsmechanismen die Abwehrsysteme auch in anderen Organen aktiviert und dort zu weiteren Zellschädigungen und Funktionsbeeinträchtigungen führt, in den Blutkapillaren aller betroffenen Organe in eine verstärkte Gerinnung bei mangelnder oder fehlender Fibrinolyse mündet und letztlich im multiplen Organversagen als katastrophale Folge endet.
