- Abstract
Helicobacter pylori, a gram-negative bacterium is a common infection in the developing world. The discovery of H. pylori has been associated with gastric problems and, in severe cases, gastric cancer. Across the world, millions of people are suffering from peptic ulcer, which may progress to gastric cancer. The pathogen is generally transmitted through contaminated food and water sources or from an infected person to others. The prevalence of H. pylori infections arises chiefly in developing countries, because many of these countries suffer extremely from a test and treatment approach. This book details the pathophysiology, symptoms, complications, and treatment of H. pylori, and will address the need of students and healthcare workers who want to learn more about this subject. It covers the brief history, taxonomy and virulence factors of H. pylori, as well as its mechanism of transmission, pathogenicity, resistance, isolation, culturing, and possible treatment.

- Abstract
Viral hepatitis is a global health care challenge. It affects almost every part of the world and the World Health Organization reports that 354 million people worldwide live with hepatitis B or C. However, there have been recent changes in the treatment of acute and chronic hepatitis, as its management is a key issue in clinical medicine. This book provides up-to-date information about the treatment of acute and chronic hepatitis. From hepatitis A to E, it summarizes the treatment of viral hepatitis to guide clinical practice. After exploring the treatment of each virus, a separate chapter details the clinical pharmacology of all the drugs used in acute and chronic hepatitis. This book will be a great resource to students, internists, infectious diseases physicians, gastroenterologists, microbiologists, and clinical pharmacists.

- Abstract
This text provides a comprehensive, state-of-the art review of this field, and will serve as a valuable resource for students, clinicians, and researchers with an interest in hepatitis B. The book reviews new data about basic and translational science including the viral life cycle, the immunopathogenesis of virus induced chronic hepatitis, the mechanism of virus induced liver cancer, and their potential applications for the clinical management of patients. The clinical aspects of this chronic viral infection are reviewed in detail with important chapters on the global epidemiology, the natural history of the disease, co-infections with its satellite virus HDV or HIV, and management of special patient populations. A major emphasis is made on the management of antiviral therapy and the recent international guidelines for the treatment of hepatitis B. Finally, the book reviews the current state of the art regarding immunoprophylaxis to prevent the spread of the virus and its major clinical consequences. The new advances and perspectives in the development of improved antiviral treatments are also discussed.Hepatitis B Virus in Human Diseases will serve as a very useful resource for students, physicians and researchers dealing with, and interested in, this challenging chronic viral infection. It will provide a concise yet comprehensive summary of the current status of the field that will help guide patient management and stimulate investigative efforts. All chapters are written by experts in their fields and include the most up to date scientific and clinical information.

- Abstract
Curbside Consultation in IBD: 49 Clinical Questions has been updated into a Second Edition! The Second Edition contains new questions and is completely updated! Are you looking for concise, practical answers to questions that are often left unanswered by traditional inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) references? Are you seeking brief, evidence-based and updated advice for complicated cases or complications? Curbside Consultation in IBD: 49 Clinical Questions, Second Edition provides quick and direct answers to the thorny questions commonly posed during a “curbside consultation” between colleagues. Dr. David T. Rubin, Dr. Sonia Friedman, and Dr. Francis A. Farraye are joined by a world-class group of contributors on the Second Edition, which offers expert advice, preferences, and opinions on tough clinical questions commonly associated with IBD. The unique Q&A format provides quick access to current information related to IBD with the simplicity of a conversation between two colleagues. Numerous images, diagrams, and references are included to better illustrate IBD. Some of the questions that are answered inside the Second Edition include: • How can I clarify the diagnosis in my patient with indeterminate colitis? • What is the role of concomitant immunomodulators with biologic use in IBD? • When in the treatment algorithm should methotrexate be considered for Crohn's disease? Is there a role for low-dose methotrexate in the prevention of immunogenicity? • How should we be using fecal markers such as lactoferrin and calprotectin in our patients? • Should I use chromoendoscopy in my surveillance colonoscopy in IBD? How and which agent? • What is the updated approach to antimetabolites and biologic therapy in IBD and pregnancy? • When should I consider anti-integrin therapy for my patient with IBD? Curbside Consultation in IBD: 49 Clinical Questions, Second Edition has been updated with new questions and answers, and has chapters organized by topic. The format provides information that high-volume clinicians will appreciate, and yet is basic enough for trainees and students.
