Psoriasis is a common, non-infectious, chronic inflammatory skin disease characterised by distinctive erythematous plaques that multiply and scale over with silvery patches. Psoriasis can affect any cutaneous site and is frequently found on the extensor skin surface of elbows and knees, scalp and sacral regions. Psoriasis is also associated with systemic conditions, including psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease and lymphoma. There is a wide variety of therapeutic options to treat psoriasis including topical, phototherapy, systemic and biological therapies. During the past decade, many pathological models have been developed to better understand psoriasis. Among them, in-vitro models offer an interesting alternative to animal models. The development of these models represents a key component in the fight against psoriasis.
