- Abstract
Many pathologists and some clinicians notice in practical services that several biliary tract diseases resemble pathologically — and even biologically — some pancreatic diseases. In this book, the authors provide the anatomic and biological basis and characteristics for the occurrence of similar features in several diseases of the biliary tract and pancreas, and also the reasons why they propose the new disease concept known as “biliary diseases with pancreatic counterparts”. This book provides a comprehensive overview of several representative “biliary diseases with pancreatic counterparts”, from basic understanding to practical aspects, and presents the latest advances. The contributing authors extensively discuss the topic from different perspectives, including diseases such as IgG4-related diseases involving the pancreas and biliary tract, intraductal papillary neoplasm and intraductal tubulopapillary neoplasm of the bile duct and pancreas, invasive adenocarcinoma of the pancreas and biliary tract and their precursor lesions, and alcoholic pancreatitis and adenitis of the peribiliary glands, and so on. Biliary Diseases with Pancreatic Counterparts: A New Disease Concept is a valuable resource for clinicians in various disciplines, such as internal medicine, surgery, pathology and radiology. It allows biliary researchers and practitioners to broaden their understanding of the subject, and further explore the latest findings in clinicopathological features of these biliary tract and pancreatic diseases.

- Abstract
This book helps scientists, clinicians and other interested individuals understand recent clinical advances and challenges for the future. It covers many basic aspects of the pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis C, HCV infections in particular populations, approaches to therapy, and prevention and control of HCV Infection. The book provides a succinct review of the large amount of data generated by multiple groups over the past two decades that has revealed the natural history of HCV infection. Similarly, it summarizes current understanding of the origins of HCV-associated hepatocellular carcinoma, cirrhosis and hepatic fibrosis. Extra-hepatic manifestation and metabolic disorders related to HCV infection are described. In this volume, these clinically important aspects of HCV infection are comprehensively described. Highlights are description of newly developed direct- acting antivirals. The authors represent a worldwide distribution of leaders in the field reflecting the global nature of HCV infection. Based on recent data concerning the genetic- and geographical diversity of HCV, and increased global disease burden of HCV infection, challenges for global control of HCV infections are described.

- Abstract
Cholangiocarcinoma is a heterogeneous group of neoplasms, which has a rising worldwide incidence. Therefore, it is now a major cause of cancer mortality. Diagnosis, staging, treatment approaches and outcomes differ significantly based on the location of the tumor. Given the challenges of remaining up-to-date in a rapidly expanding field, the aim of this monograph is to provide a comprehensive, fully referenced presentation of the state-of-the-art medical and surgical aspects relevant to the management of cholangiocarcinoma divided by the site of origin (i.e. intrahepatic, hilar and distal). The division of the book into these sections reflects the biological and clinical differences between these tumor types and will permit the authors to address the diagnostic, interventional or treatment issues specific to each tumor type. By presenting all medical and surgical aspects of cholangiocarcinoma in a systematic manner, this monograph will be a ready-to-use instrument for those interested in cholangiocarcinoma, including practicing physicians, residents, fellows and specialists. A list of 66 world-renowned experts contributed to the book, offering the readers the unique opportunity to have a broad perspective on these diseases, practical indications on patient selection and treatment that can be easily applied to both Eastern and Western clinical settings.

- Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common disease in the primary malignant tumor of the liver. It is considered that the therapy for HCC is very troublesome because most of the HCC occur from the injured liver such as chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis. If the patients with HCC receive proper therapy for their stage of HCC and liver function, a long survival is expected. In this book, the up-to-date contents of etiology, diagnosis techniques, and various kinds of therapies for HCC are described. This book is very helpful for the medical staff that takes care of the patients with HCC. The contents of this book include precise descriptions of the following: i) the etiology and epidemiology of HCC, ii) the diagnosis technique of CT and MRI, and the indications and results of the treatments, i.e., iii) radiofrequency ablation, iv) molecular-targeted therapy, v) surgical resection, vi) transplantation, vii) trans-arterial chemo-embolization, and radiotherapy. In addition, viii) proton beam therapy is introduced, which is a less invasive therapy for localized HCC.

- Abstract
Viruses and Human Cancer provides a comprehensive review of the seven currently known human tumor viruses and their associated cancers with an emphasis on epidemiology, clinicopathologic features, and pathogenesis. Chapters are written by internationally recognized experts and all are generously illustrated with tables, diagrams and photographic images.Viruses and Human Cancer is designed to serve as a concise review of the field of human tumor virology for pathologists, oncologists and infectious disease specialists. It will also be of great value to practicing physicians, residents and clinical fellows in these specialties.

- Abstract
The literature of medicine continues to expand at a remarkable pace. The number of papers and monographs published has increased dramatically in the past five years. Nowhere has this increase been as dramatic as in the field of acute and chronic hepatitis. Why then should there be still another book? Despite the sheer volume of words published, it is still difficult to find in anyone volume a compilation of all of the most significant work. Most mono graphs have considered either chronic or acute hepatitis, not both. Few works have addressed both the clinician and the basic scientist. This book addresses both of these audiences and considers both of these diseases. It was designed to provide an authoritative but concise assessment of our changing concepts of acute and chronic hepatitis. It covers what is currently known and, based on the most convincing research, believed about these diseases. To fulfill this ambitious goal, only authors with international reputations in their fields of expertise were invited to contribute. In the evolution of our current thoughts on the pathogenesis and manage ment of acute and chronic hepatitis, our ideas have changed several times. This book presents the facts as they are known today and, in areas where all the facts are not established, presents the well-founded opinions of those considered to be authorities. The authors present established and usually confirmed data and do not deal extensively with areas of speculation or unconfirmed material.

- Abstract
Leading international virologists review the state-of-the-art in the biology, pathogenesis, and epidemiology of the hepatitis viruses. The authorities writing here examine the five well-recognized hepatitis viruses, A through E, and some of the newer agents, the so-called non- A-E hepatitis viruses. They also provide in-depth discussions of the biological nature of the viruses, the pathogenesis of the acute and chronic diseases they cause, the methods and ease with which they are transmitted, and their clinical signs and symptoms. Additional topics include diagnostic tests and routine blood screening, new vaccines, and the use of interferon and antiviral drugs. Viral Hepatitis: Diagnosis, Therapy, and Prevention provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date survey of the hepatitis viruses currently available
