The present Yearbook of Anesthesiology is the 10th volume in the series of yearly updates, published under the auspices of the Indian College of Anaesthesiologists, India, an academic body focused on improving anesthesia education. It was in 2011 that the idea of yearly updates was envisaged, and the first edition was published in 2012. At that time there were many apprehensions regarding the book's acceptability among anaesthesiologists in the country as it was for the first time that such a volume was being published from India. The members of the college and the editorial board were surprised at the overwhelming response that the first volume received, thus the saga of the Yearbook of Anesthesiology continued and the 10th volume is being released.

Anesthesiology is a rapidly growing specialty and anesthesiologists need to keep pace with the ever-increasing demands of patients with associated medical disorders presenting for surgery. The present Yearbook of Anesthesiology is the 9th edition in the series of yearly handbook published under the auspices of the Indian College of Anaesthesiologists. This book consists of 25 chapters, which include errors in medicine, perioperative care of the frail elderly, pregnancy-induced hypertension, sugammadex and beyond, issues and management of obese parturient, postoperative delirium, gas embolism, nutrition in the intensive care unit, smartphones in anesthesia, health hazards for an anesthesiologist, weaning from mechanical ventilation, intraoperative thermoregulation, postoperative myocardial injury, management of hyperglycemia in the perioperative period, challenges and issues in daycare arthroplasty, double-lumen endotracheal tubes, and regional blocks for shoulder surgery. This yearbook also has a section on Journal Scan where landmark articles in the previous year are opined upon by leading experts in their fields. This book would go far and wide and adorn the tables of the scientifically oriented.

The Indian College of Anaesthesiologists is the academic wing of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists. The first Yearbook of anesthesia was published by the Indian College of Anaesthesiologists in 2012. The present is the 8th one in the series and once again has topics of interests to anesthesiologists, intensivists, and postgraduates. Over the years, there has been an overwhelming response to the series of Yearbooks and we presume that this edition too would live up to the reader's expectations. The Yearbook is a recommended reading for the trainee, practicing anesthesiologists and for the intensivists. Together with the previous volumes, it is an excellent source of anesthesia literature on current practices.
