- Abstract
This book addresses the key security challenges in the big data centric computing and network systems, and discusses how to tackle them using a mix of conventional and state-of-the-art techniques. The incentive for joining big data and advanced analytics is no longer in doubt for businesses and ordinary users alike. Technology giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and companies like Uber, Airbnb, NVIDIA, Expedia, and so forth are continuing to explore new ways to collect and analyze big data to provide their customers with interactive services and new experiences. With any discussion of big data, security is not, however, far behind. Large scale data breaches and privacy leaks at governmental and financial institutions, social platforms, power grids, and so forth, are on the rise that cost billions of dollars. The book explains how the security needs and implementations are inherently different at different stages of the big data centric system, namely at the point of big data sensing and collection, delivery over existing networks, and analytics at the data centers. Thus, the book sheds light on how conventional security provisioning techniques like authentication and encryption need to scale well with all the stages of the big data centric system to effectively combat security threats and vulnerabilities. The book also uncovers the state-of-the-art technologies like deep learning and blockchain which can dramatically change the security landscape in the big data era.

The second edition has not deviated significantly from the first. The printing of this edition, however, has allowed us to make a number of corrections which escaped our scrutiny at the time of the first printing, and to generally improve and tighten our presentation of the material. - Abstract
Integration theory holds a prime position, whether in pure mathematics or in various fields of applied mathematics. It plays a central role in analysis; it is the basis of probability theory and provides an indispensable tool in mathe matical physics, in particular in quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics. Therefore, many textbooks devoted to integration theory are already avail able. The present book by Michel Simonnet differs from the previous texts in many respects, and, for that reason, it is to be particularly recommended. When dealing with integration theory, some authors choose, as a starting point, the notion of a measure on a family of subsets of a set; this approach is especially well suited to applications in probability theory. Other authors prefer to start with the notion of Radon measure (a continuous linear func tional on the space of continuous functions with compact support on a locally compact space) because it plays an important role in analysis and prepares for the study of distribution theory. Starting off with the notion of Daniell measure, Mr. Simonnet provides a unified treatment of these two approaches.

This book addresses a mathematical approach to Kalman-Bucy filtering and is an outgrowth of lectures given at our institutions since 1971 in a sequence of courses devoted to Kalman-Bucy filters. The material is meant to be a theoretical complement to courses dealing with applications and is designed for students who are well versed in the techniques of Kalman-Bucy filtering but who are also interested in the mathematics on which these may be based. The main topic addressed in this book is continuous-time Kalman-Bucy filtering. Although the discrete-time Kalman filter results were obtained first, the continuous-time results are important when dealing with systems developing in time continuously, which are hence more appropriately mod eled by differential equations than by difference equations. On the other hand, observations from the former can be obtained in a discrete fashion.

- Abstract
During the last decades, there has been an explosion in computation and information technology. This development comes with an expansion of complex observational studies and clinical trials in a variety of fields such as medicine, biology, epidemiology, sociology, and economics among many others, which involve collection of large amounts of data on subjects or organisms over time. The goal of such studies can be formulated as estimation of a finite dimensional parameter of the population distribution corresponding to the observed time- dependent process. Such estimation problems arise in survival analysis, causal inference and regression analysis. This book provides a fundamental statistical framework for the analysis of complex longitudinal data. It provides the first comprehensive description of optimal estimation techniques based on time-dependent data structures subject to informative censoring and treatment assignment in so called semiparametric models. Semiparametric models are particularly attractive since they allow the presence of large unmodeled nuisance parameters. These techniques include estimation of regression parameters in the familiar (multivariate) generalized linear regression and multiplicative intensity models. They go beyond standard statistical approaches by incorporating all the observed data to allow for informative censoring, to obtain maximal efficiency, and by developing estimators of causal effects. It can be used to teach masters and Ph.D. students in biostatistics and statistics and is suitable for researchers in statistics with a strong interest in the analysis of complex longitudinal data.

- Abstract
This monograph isdevoted to a special area ofBanach space theory-the Kothe Bochner function space. Two typical questions in this area are: Question 1. Let E be a Kothe function space and X a Banach space. Does the Kothe-Bochner function space E(X) have the Dunford-Pettis property if both E and X have the same property? If the answer is negative, can we find some extra conditions on E and (or) X such that E(X) has the Dunford-Pettis property? Question 2. Let 1~ p~ 00, E a Kothe function space, and X a Banach space. Does either E or X contain an lp-sequence ifthe Kothe-Bochner function space E(X) has an lp-sequence? To solve the above two questions will not only give us a better understanding of the structure of the Kothe-Bochner function spaces but it will also develop some useful techniques that can be applied to other fields, such as harmonic analysis, probability theory, and operator theory. Let us outline the contents of the book. In the first two chapters we provide some some basic results forthose students who do not have any background in Banach space theory. We present proofs of Rosenthal's l1-theorem, James's theorem (when X is separable), Kolmos's theorem, N. Randrianantoanina's theorem that property (V•) is a separably determined property, and Odell-Schlumprecht's theorem that every separable reflexive Banach space has an equivalent 2R norm.

- Abstract
The International Conference on Intelligent Computing (ICIC) was formed to provide an annual forum dedicated to the emerging and challenging topics in artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, and computational biology, etc. It aims to bring - gether researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry to share ideas, problems and solutions related to the multifaceted aspects of intelligent computing. ICIC 2007, held in Qingdao, China, August 21-24, 2007, constituted the Third - ternational Conference on Intelligent Computing. It built upon the success of ICIC 2006 and ICIC 2005 held in Kunming and Hefei, China, 2006 and 2005, respectively. This year, the conference concentrated mainly on the theories and methodologies as well as the emerging applications of intelligent computing. Its aim was to unify the picture of contemporary intelligent computing techniques as an integral concept that highlights the trends in advanced computational intelligence and bridges theoretical research with applications. Therefore, the theme for this conference was “Advanced Intelligent Computing Technology and Applications”. Papers focusing on this theme were solicited, addressing theories, methodologies, and applications in science and technology.

- Abstract
This volume contains the papers presented at the Sixth International Conference on Energy Minimization Methods on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (EMMCVPR 2007), held at the Lotus Hill Institute, Ezhou, Hubei, China, August 27–29, 2007. The motivation for this conference is the realization that many problems in computer vision and pattern recognition can be formulated in terms of probabilistic inference or optimization of energy functions. EMMCVPR 2007 addressed the critical issues of representation, learning, and inference. Important new themes include pr- abilistic grammars, image parsing, and the use of datasets with ground-truth to act as benchmarks for evaluating algorithms and as a way to train learning algorithms. Other themes include the development of efficient inference algorithms using advanced techniques from statistics, computer science, and applied mathematics. We received 140 submissions for this workshop. Each paper was reviewed by three committee members. Based on these reviews we selected 22 papers for oral presen- tion and 15 papers for poster presentation. This book makes no distinction between oral and poster papers. We have organized these papers in seven sections on al- rithms, applications, image parsing, image processing, motion, shape, and thr- dimensional processing. Finally, we thank those people who helped make this workshop happen. We - knowledge the Program Committee for their help in reviewing the papers.
