The European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information (ESSLLI) is organized every year by the Association for Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI) in different sites around Europe. The main focus of ESSLLI is on the interface between linguistics, logic and computation. ESSLLI offers foundational, introductory and advanced courses, as well as workshops, covering a wide variety of topics within the three areas of interest: Language and Computation, Language and Logic, and Logic and Computation. The goalof ALA is to provide an interdisciplinaryforum for scientists from a variety of?elds such as computer science, biology, game theory and economics. This year's edition of ALA was the second after the merger of the former wo- shops ALAMAS and ALAg. In 2008 this joint workshop was organized for the?rst time under the?ag of both events. ALAMAS was a yearly returning Eu- pean workshop on adaptive and learning agents and multi-agent systems (held eight times). ALAg was the international workshop on adaptive and learning agents, which was usually held at AAMAS. To increase the strength, visibility and quality of the workshop it was decided to merge both workshops under the?ag of ALA and to set up a Steering Committee as an organizational backbone. This book contains six papers presented during the workshop, which were carefully selected after an additional review round in the summer of 2009. This state-of-the-art survey features papers that were selected after an open call following the International Dagstuhl Seminar on Algorithmic Methods for Railway Optimization. The second part of the volume constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 4th International Workshop on Algorithmic Methods and Models for Optimization of Railways. The 17 full papers presented here were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions.

The papers in this volume show the lively variety of topics and methods in automated deduction in geometry, and their applicability to different branches of mathematics as well as to other sciences and technologies. The book is made up of the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Automated Deduction in Geometry, ADG 2006, held at Pontevedra, Spain, in 2006. There are a total of 13 revised full papers selected from a number of submissions.

This volume contains a selection of the papers presented at the Sixth Int- national Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT) which was organized in Brno, Czech Republic, from August 30 to September 1 of 2006. The PATAT conferences, which are held every 2 years, bring together - searchers and practitioners from across the broad spectrum of inter-disciplinary research activity in search methodologies for automated timetable generation. This includes university timetabling, school timetabling, personnel rostering, transportation timetabling, sports scheduling. The programme of the 2006 c- ference featured 70 presentations which represented the state of the art in au- mated timetabling: there were four plenary papers, 17 full papers, 41 extended abstracts, and eight system demonstrations. After the conference, all authors were invited to submit their papers to a second round of rigorous refereeing for this volume of selected revised papers. We are pleased to have accepted 25 - pers for this volume. This?gure represents the highest number of acceptances in a PATAT post-proceedings volume and is a testament to the high standards of the papers that were submitted. The organization of the book is structured around particular problem areas.

This book contains refereed and improved papers presented at the 6th IAPR Workshop on Graphics Recognition (GREC 2005). This year is the tenth anniversary of GREC, which was started in 1995 and has been held every 2 years: GREC 1995 in Penn State University, USA (LNCS Volume 1072, Springer, 1996); GREC 1997 in Nancy, France (LNCS Volume 1389, Springer, 1998); GREC 1999 in Jaipur, India (LNCS Volume 1941, Springer, 2000); GREC 2001 in Kingston, Canada (LNCS Volume 2390, Springer, 2002); and GREC 2003 in Barcelona, Spain (LNCS Volume 3088, Springer, 2004). GREC is the main event of IAPR TC-10 (the Technical Committee on Graphics Recognition within the International Association for Pattern Recognition) and provides an excellent opportunity for researchers and practitioners at all levels of experience to meet colleagues and to share new ideas and knowledge about graphics recognition methods. Graphics recognition is a particular field in the domain of document analysis, which combines pattern recognition and image processing techniques for the analysis of any kind of graphical information in documents from either paper or electronic formats. In its 10 year history, the graphics recognition community has extended its research topics from the analysis and understanding of graphic documents (including engineering drawings vectorization and recognition), to graphics-based information retrieval and symbol recognition, to new media analysis, and even stepped into research areas of other communities, e. g.
