The book studies the existing and potential connections between Social Network Analysis (SNA) and Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) by showing how standard SNA techniques, usually based on graph theory, can be supplemented by FCA methods, which rely on lattice theory.The book presents contributions to the following areas: acquisition of terminological knowledge from social networks, knowledge communities, individuality computation, other types of FCA-based analysis of bipartite graphs (two-mode networks), multimodal clustering, community detection and description in one-mode and multi-mode networks, adaptation of the dual-projection approach to weighted bipartite graphs, extensions to the Kleinberg's HITS algorithm as well as attributed graph analysis.

This book is focused on pancyclic and bipancyclic graphs and is geared toward researchers and graduate students in graph theory. Readers should be familiar with the basic concepts of graph theory, the definitions of a graph and of a cycle. Pancyclic graphs contain cycles of all possible lengths from three up to the number of vertices in the graph. This introductory text in graph theory focuses on partial cubes, which are graphs that are isometrically embeddable into hypercubes of an arbitrary dimension, as well as bipartite graphs, and cubical graphs. This branch of graph theory has developed rapidly during the past three decades, producing exciting results and establishing links to other branches of mathematics. Currently, Graphs and Cubes is the only book available on the market that presents a comprehensive coverage of cubical graph and partial cube theories. Many exercises, along with historical notes, are included at the end of every chapter, and readers are encouraged to explore the exercises fully, and use them as a basis for research projects. Graph algorithms are easy to visualize and indeed there already exists a variety of packages to animate the dynamics when solving problems from graph theory. Still it can be difficult to understand the ideas behind the algorithm from the dynamic display alone. CATBox consists of a software system for animating graph algorithms and a course book which we developed simultaneously. The software system presents both the algorithm and the graph and puts the user always in control of the actual code that is executed. In the course book, intended for readers at advanced undergraduate or graduate level, computer exercises and examples replace the usual static pictures of algorithm dynamics. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Joint Conference on Theoretical Computer Science-Frontier of Algorithmic Wisdom (IJTCS-FAW 2024), consisting of the 18th International Conference on Frontier of Algorithmic Wisdom (FAW) and the 5th International Joint Conference on Theoretical Computer Science (IJTCS), held in Hong Kong, SAR, China, during July 29-31, 2024. To accommodate the diversified new research directions in theoretical computer science, FAW and IJTCS joined their forces together to organize an event for information exchange of new findings and work of enduring value in the field. The 20 full papers and 3 short papers included in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 43 submissions. They focused tracks on algorithms, blockchain theory, computational economics and algorithmic game theory.

The book begins very simply for the reader in the first chapter discussing the notions of inversion and stereographic projection. Formal Concept Analysis is a field of applied mathematics based on the math­ematization of concept and conceptual hierarchy. It thereby activates math­ematical thinking for conceptual data analysis and knowledge processing. The underlying notion of “concept” evolved early in the philosophical theory of concepts and still has effects today. In mathematics it played a special role during the emergence of mathematical logic in the 19th century. Subsequently, however, it had virtually no impact on mathematical thinking. It was not until 1979 that the topic was revisited and treated more thoroughly. Since then, Formal Concept Analysis has fully emerged, sparking a multitude of publications for which the first edition of this textbook established itself as the standard reference in the literature, with a total of 10000+ citations. This is the second edition, revised and extended, of the textbook published originally in German (1996) and translated into English (1999), giving a systematic presentation of the mathematical foundations while also focusing on their possible applications for data analysis and knowledge processing. This volume results from two programs that took place at the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at the National University of Singapore: Aspects of Computation — in Celebration of the Research Work of Professor Rod Downey (21 August to 15 September 2017) and Automata Theory and Applications: Games, Learning and Structures (20-24 September 2021).The first program was dedicated to the research work of Rodney G. The aim of this workshop was to further the understanding of networks that arise in theoretical as well as applied domains. The goal was also to stimulate the development of high-performance and scalable algorithms that exploit these networks.

This book contains the proceedings of the 19th Cologne-Twente Workshop on Graphs and Combinatorial Optimization, held during June 20-22, 2023, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 31th International Colloquium on Structural Information and Communication Complexity, SIROCCO 2024, held in Haifa, Israel in May 2024. The 24 full papers and 6 short papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 49 submissions. SIROCCO is devoted to the study of the interplay between structural knowledge, communication, and computing in decentralized systems of multiple communicating entities. Petri nets model concurrent and distributed systems where active components communicate through the production and absorption of various kinds of resources. Although the dynamic properties of such systems may be very complex, they may sometimes be connected to the static structure of a Petri net. Many properties are decidable, but their complexity may be huge. It is often opportune to restrict oneself to classes of systems, to partial algorithms, and to similar but simpler properties. Instead of analysing a given system, it is also possible to search for a system satisfying some desired properties by construction. This comprehensive textbook/reference presents and discusses these issues in-depth in the context of one of the most fundamental Petri net models, called place/transition nets. This text gives a comprehensive introduction to the “common core” of convex geometry. Basic concepts and tools which are present in all branches of that field are presented with a highly didactic approach. Mainly directed to graduate and advanced undergraduates, the book is self-contained in such a way that it can be read by anyone who has standard undergraduate knowledge of analysis and of linear algebra. Additionally, it can be used as a single reference for a complete introduction to convex geometry, and the content coverage is sufficiently broad that the reader may gain a glimpse of the entire breadth of the field and various subfields. The book is suitable as a primary text for courses in convex geometry and also in discrete geometry (including polytopes). It is also appropriate for survey type courses in Banach space theory, convex analysis, differential geometry, and applications of measure theory. Solutions to all exercises are available to instructors who adopt the text for coursework.Most chapters use the same structure with the first part presenting theory and the next containing a healthy range of exercises. Some of the exercises may even be considered as short introductions to ideas which are not covered in the theory portion. Each chapter has a notes section offering a rich narrative to accompany the theory, illuminating the development of ideas, and providing overviews to the literature concerning the covered topics. Discrete quantum walks are quantum analogues of classical random walks. They are an important tool in quantum computing and a number of algorithms can be viewed as discrete quantum walks, in particular Grover's search algorithm. These walks are constructed on an underlying graph, and so there is a relation between properties of walks and properties of the graph. This book studies the mathematical problems that arise from this connection, and the different classes of walks that arise.
