This book contains the doctoral dissertations of three students from Novosibirsk who participated in the seminar of L. A. Bokut‴. The dissertation of Gerasimov focuses on Cohn's theory of noncommutative matrix localizations. Gerasimov presents a construction of matrix localization that is not directly related to (prime) matrix ideals of Cohn, but rather deals with localizations of arbitrary subsets of matrices over a ring. The work of Valitskas applies ideas and constructions of Gerasimov to embeddings of rings into radical rings (in the sense of Jacobson) to develop a theory essentially parallel to Cohn's theory of embeddings of rings into skew fields. Nesterenko's dissertation solves some important problems of Anan‴in and Bergman about representations of (infinite-dimensional) algebras and categories in (triangular) matrices over commutative rings.

This book contains eight papers on representations and cohomology of Lie algebras. The Lie algebras here are either infinite-dimensional, are defined over fields of finite characteristic, or are actually Lie superalgebras or quantum groups. Among the topics covered here are generalizations of the Virasoro algebra, representation theory of the Virasoro algebra and of Kac-Moody algebras, cohomology of Lie algebras of vector fields on the line, and Lie superalgebras of vector fields. The paper by Retakh and Shander contains a generalization of the Schwarz derivative to the noncommutative case.

This is the second paper in the series of papers dedicated to the study of natural cluster structures in the rings of regular functions on simple complex Lie groups and Poisson–Lie structures compatible with these cluster structures. According to our main conjecture, each class in the Belavin–Drinfeld classification of Poisson–Lie structures on $\mathcal{G}$ corresponds to a cluster structure in $\mathcal{O}(\mathcal{G})$. The authors have shown before that this conjecture holds for any $\mathcal{G}$ in the case of the standard Poisson–Lie structure and for all Belavin–Drinfeld classes in $SL_n$, $n<5$. In this paper the authors establish it for the Cremmer–Gervais Poisson–Lie structure on $SL_n$, which is the least similar to the standard one.

The USA-Uzbekistan Conference on Analysis and Mathematical Physics, focusing on contemporary issues in dynamical systems, mathematical physics, operator algebras, and several complex variables, was hosted by California State University, Fullerton, from May 20–23, 2014. The main objective of the conference was to facilitate scientific communication and collaboration between mathematicians from the USA and Uzbekistan. This volume contains the proceedings of the Special Session on Algebra and Functional Analysis. The theory of operator algebras is the unified theme for many papers in this volume. Out of four extensive survey papers, two cover problems related to derivation of various algebras of functions. The other two surveys are on classification of Leibniz algebras and on evolution algebras. The sixteen research articles are devoted to certain analytic topics, such as minimal projections with respect to numerical radius, functional equations and discontinuous polynomials, Fourier inversion for distributions, Schrödinger operators, convexity and dynamical systems.

This volume is a collection of papers on model theory and its applications. The longest paper, “Model Theory of Unitriangular Groups” by O. V. Belegradek, forms a subtle general theory behind Mal‴tsev's famous correspondence between rings and groups. This is the first published paper on the topic. Given the present model-theoretic interest in algebraic groups, Belegradek's work is of particular interest to logicians and algebraists. This book examines qualitative properties of vector fields in the plane, in the spirit of Hilbert's Sixteenth Problem. Two principal topics explored are bifurcations of limit cycles of planar vector fields and desingularization of singular points for individual vector fields and for analytic families of such fields. In addition to presenting important new developments in this area, this book contains an introductory paper which outlines the general context and describes connections between the papers in the volume. The book will appeal to researchers and graduate students working in the qualitative theory of ordinary differential equations and dynamical systems.

This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS Special Session on Wavelet and Frame Theoretic Methods in Harmonic Analysis and Partial Differential Equations, held September 22–23, 2012, at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY. The book features new directions, results and ideas in commutative and noncommutative abstract harmonic analysis, operator theory and applications. The commutative part includes shift invariant spaces, abelian group action on Euclidean space and frame theory; the noncommutative part includes representation theory, continuous and discrete wavelets related to four dimensional Euclidean space, frames on symmetric spaces, $C^•$-algebras, projective multiresolutions, and free probability algebras. The scope of the book goes beyond traditional harmonic analysis, dealing with Fourier tools, transforms, Fourier bases, and associated function spaces. A number of papers take the step toward wavelet analysis, and even more general tools for analysis/synthesis problems, including papers on frames (over-complete bases) and their practical applications to engineering, cosmology and astrophysics. Other applications in this book include explicit families of wavelets and frames, as they are used in signal processing, multiplexing, and the study of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. For the purpose of organization, we have divided the book into three parts: noncommutative, commutative, and applications. The first group of papers are devoted to problems in noncommutative harmonic analysis, the second to topics in commutative harmonic analysis, and the third to such applications as wavelet and frame theory and to some real-world applications.
