The book explores the intimate connection between poetry and politics in modernity and, in particular, in liberal and fascist Italy. Through a historical and interdisciplinary approach, the essays focus on various fundamental passages of liberal system crisis: political poetry as an act of rebellion against the social and economic system; as a tool of disintegration of bourgeois morality and civilization; as a pillar of the building and consolidation of the fascist regime; as a central instrument of the myth of the'new man'. What emerges is a mosaic capable of enlightening the values and disvalues and the transformation of Italian radical and nationalist mindset, through the elimination of the boundaries between ‘matter'and ‘spirit'and between different disciplines: as in the liberal period, political poetry deals with new issues such as Time, Space, and the Body, so in the totalitarian Fascist culture integrates and contaminates other aesthetic forms: theatre, dance, architecture

Essay from the year 2015 in the subject German Studies - Linguistics, grade: 1.3, University of Freiburg (Philologische Fakultät), language: English, abstract: This paper presents findings from an experimental interview study exploring the usage of German hesitation markers by native speakers aged nineteen to thirty-one. With limited research on this topic, the study investigates factors influencing hesitation marker frequency, including gender, topic type (casual vs. non-casual), and speaker familiarity. Twenty-nine participants were interviewed on various prepared questions, followed by an online perception study assessing how hesitation markers influence perceived masculinity and potential professions. Results indicate that males tend to use hesitation markers, such as'ähm,''öhm,''äh,'and'öh,'more frequently. Additionally, hesitation marker distribution is slightly higher for casual topics and when interacting with well-known friends. Pauses occur more with male speakers, non-casual topics, and distant speaker-interviewer proximity. Lengthened vowels, another hesitation marker, are more common among males, for casual topics, and with distant proximity. The perception study supports the notion that the use of hesitation markers is perceived as less masculine. Ambiguities in the findings underscore the complexity of this linguistic phenomenon. This paper offers valuable insights into German hesitation markers, shedding light on their nuanced usage and the influence of gender, topic, and speaker familiarity. The Philosophical Transactions and the letters preserved in the Royal Society's archives provide precious insights into the making of science and the workings of the Republic of Letters in the early and late modern periods. This book investigates the Royal Society's relations with Italy through a socio-historical and critical linguistic analysis of the papers concerning Italian research published in the Transactions and of the epistolary exchanges between the Society's Fellows and Italian scholars. The aim, from the linguistic perspective, is to describe the features and development of papers based on Italian research published in the journal, as well as the discursive aspects that characterise the exchanges between the two countries. Ultimately, from the historical and cultural point of view, the study will provide a picture of the development of Anglo-Italian relations in scientific context from the seventeenth to the end of the nineteenth century.

The volume consists of fifteen papers discussing a vast array of issues and aspects relating to the concept of cultural memory. Taking as a standpoint the Halbwachs/Assman critical tradition, the individual contributions trace the relevance of the concept in the context of a wide range of areas, from medieval studies, through Victorian culture, up to multifold examples from the contemporary literary scene, especially speculative fiction. The collection of papers is designed as an informative and exhaustive overview tracing the relevance of the notion of cultural memory as a reference point in the discussion of cultural continuity and transformations in the diachronic context of the evolution of European culture.

In the meantime, there are many approaches to dealing with conflicts and overcoming differences. But so far there is none that has been able to establish itself as the only true theory. Could this claim possibly be made for Nonviolent communication? Is it a suitable approach to conflict management? According to Rosenberg, Nonviolent communication can be successfully applied in a wide variety of situations. He includes'close relationships, families, schools, organizations and institutions, therapy and counseling, diplomatic and business negotiations, disputes and conflicts of all kinds.'But is Nonviolent communication an approach that exists not only as a theory, but has its impact precisely where conflicts actually arise, in everyday interactions with others? And can Nonviolent communication also help people in their lives away from conflicts? These considerations have led to an overarching research question: Is Nonviolent Communication suitable for everyday life? For a better understanding, the first part of the paper will first highlight in detail the basic assumptions of Nonviolent communication, how it came about and how it works, as well as its special features. Four other communication models will be used to further illustrate Nonviolent communication; this part of the paper will be its main focus. Elements from the work of Carl Rogers, Virginia Satir and Friedemann Schulz von Thun, as well as from the model of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), will show the extent to which Rosenberg was influenced by other models in the development of Nonviolent communication. On the basis of these models, which were chosen because of their familiarity and recognized success, the suitability of Nonviolent communication for everyday use will also be discussed. Nonviolent communication will then be examined for dangers. This will be done on the one hand via the theory of cognitive dissonance, on the other hand the aspect of manipulation will be included.

A unique experiment at the frontlines of the Cold War, the German Democratic Republic collapsed more than thirty years ago. But it did not simply vanish. Far from being a footnote in history, the state and its legacies continue to inform identities, politics, and culture today. Studies of surveillance and government control, individual agency and equal opportunity, informal networks, strategic alliances, and strategies subverting limitations on freedom of expression prompt us to rethink our conceptualizations of the GDR. Introducing the work of a new generation of researchers, this collection applies such approaches to a wide range of examples from film, theatre, music, literature, radio, and law. The chapters explore and transgress temporal, national, and disciplinary boundaries. From these investigations emerges a pervasive pattern of informal, border-transcending spheres, subversive identity discourses, and effective agency. Drawing variously on concepts such as Eigen-Sinn, informal society, and alternative public spheres, the papers presented here highlight the relevance of GDR Studies looking forwards. More than a volume about just the past, The GDR Tomorrow holds implications for the future.

This volume is a collection of papers presented at the 60th International Academic Week organized by the Southeast Europe Association in October 2022. The event brought together scholars to discuss the various facets of international return migration from diverse destination countries back to Southeast Europe. Within this volume, the concept of return takes on a dynamic and multifaceted character. It is seen not as a one-way journey but as an ongoing, non-linear, and reversible process consisting of multiple stages. This approach recognizes that migration is a journey with many dimensions, involving mobility in various directions. The volume sheds light on a variety of migration practices to and from Southeast Europe, revealing a complex interplay of movements over time.

Interessanterweise zeigen Grammatiken offenbar Lücken, die dadurch entstehen, dass für bestimmte Bereiche Regeln (bzw. Formen) ganz fehlen oder dass sich einzelne Regeln widersprechen und der daraus resultierende Konflikt deren Anwendung verhindert. Grammatische Lücken, auf deren Relevanz für eine'realistische'Grammatiktheorie wohl zuerst Marga Reis hingewiesen hat, sind in den letzten Jahren schon vereinzelt in den Fokus der Forschung geraten. Das Sonderheft versammelt Arbeiten zu verschiedenen Arten von Lücken und zeigt damit, wie ertragreich und wichtig die Erforschung grammatischer Lücken sein kann. Grammars are (metaphorically speaking) instructions for the correct use of languages. One might expect that grammars are complete, i.e., that they provide an appropriate solution for each utterance context. Interestingly, however, grammars seem to show gaps, which are caused by the fact that rules (or forms) in certain domains are missing completely or that individual rules contradict each other and that the resulting conflict prevents their application. Grammatical gaps, whose relevance for a'realistic'theory of grammar was probably first pointed out by Marga Reis, have come into the focus of research in recent years. The present special issue collects papers on different kinds of gaps and shows how fruitful and important the investigation of grammatical gaps can prove to be. André Kischel befasst sich mit den von Uwe Johnson während seines Germanistikstudiums (1952–1956) verfassten Studienarbeiten: Was verraten diese Elaborate über die frühe literarische und teils auch lebensweltliche Sozialisation des späteren Autors von Weltrang? Die erhaltenen studentischen Arbeiten werden hinsichtlich der jeweils verhandelten Gegenstände, angewandten Methoden ihrer Erarbeitung und Darstellung betrachtet. Zudem werden die Zeitläufte und die sie konstituierenden (literatur-politischen) Umstände des Betrachtungszeitraums stets in Rechnung gestellt. Der Autor arbeitet heraus, dass diesen Arbeiten einerseits eine eigene Bedeutung als analytisch-essayistische Studien über Literatur zukommt, sie andererseits aber auch erste Hinweise auf die spätere Autorschaft Johnsons – auf ein ›Leben in Literatur‹ – liefern. The study deals with the research papers written by Uwe Johnson during his German studies (1952–1956): What do these elaborations reveal about the early literary and, in part, life-world socialization of the later author of world renown? The surviving student works are examined in terms of the subjects they deal with and the methods used to develop and present them, while also always taking into account the contemporary conditions and the (literary-political) circumstances of the period under consideration that constituted them. On the one hand, these works have their own significance as analytical-essayistic studies of literature, and on the other hand, they provide the first indications of later authorship, of a'life in literature'.

In our world, where information and communication technologies are reshaping and continuing to shape every field, it is clear that enterprises that can follow the flow of information, grind the information they collect in information mills, and provide intelligence by using their internal and external information, can adapt to changing conditions in a timely and effective manner in proportion to its power. At this point, the aim is to automate the realization of this whole process to the greatest possible extent. In this context, the important developments in the last 20 years have been focusing on business intelligence, big data, deep learning, reinforcement learning, data intelligence, decision intelligence, automated decision-making, and other concepts and the development of application tools. From this point of view, under the title of “Data-driven decisions in enterprises – implications for business education and cases,” papers collected from various universities worldwide are included in this conference proceedings.

Brecht Yearbook 48 features a section on Brecht's and Heiner Müller's engagement with modern living, a group of essays on'Brecht Post-2020,'and additional new Brecht research on various topics.The Brecht Yearbook, published on behalf of the International Brecht Society, is the central scholarly forum for the study of Brecht's life and work and of topics relevant to him. In 2016, the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that Max Brod's posthumous papers which included a collection of Kafka's manuscripts be transferred to the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. If Kafka's writings may be seen to belong to Jewish national culture and if they may be considered part of Israel's heritage, then their analysis within a Jewish framework should be both viable and valuable. This volume is dedicated to the research of Franz Kafka's late narrative “The Burrow” and its autobiographical and theological significance. Research is extended to incorporate many fields of study (architecture, sound studies, philosophy, cultural studies, Jewish studies, literary studies) to illustrate the dynamics at work within the text which reveal the Jewish aspects implicitly thematicized. Examination of the structure created, the nature of sound perceived, the atmosphere experienced and the acts performed by the protagonist serve as the foundation of this analysis and offer new access to Kafka's work by presenting an interpretive, space-semantic approach. “Der Bau” is presented as a life concept given the task of constituting identity, highlighting the critical link between the literary and biographical Kafka and demonstrating the necessity of understanding the author as a Jewish writer to understand his late narrative. For her outstanding research project, Andrea Newsom Ebarb was awarded the “Forschungsförderpreis der Vereinigung der Freunde der Universität Mainz e.V.” in 2023.

The eleven chapters in this international volume draw on a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches to focus our attention on medieval and early modern things (ca. 700–1600). The range of things includes actual objects (the Altenburg Crucifixion, a copy of Hieronymus Brunschwig's Liber de arte distillandi, a pilgrim's letter), imagined objects (a prayed cloak for the Virgin Mary), and narrative objects in texts (the Alliterative Morte Arthure, the Ordene de Chevalerie, Hartmann von Aue's Erec, Heinrich of Neustadt's Apollonius of Tyre, Luís de Camões's Os Lusíadas, and the vita of Saint Guthlac). Each in its own way, the papers consider how things do what they do in texts and art, often foregrounding the intersection between the material and the immaterial by exploring such questions as how things act, how they express power, and how texts and images represent them. Medieval and early modern things are repeatedly shown to be more than symbolic or passive, they are agentive and determinative in both their intra- and extradiegetic worlds. The things that are addressed in this volume are varied and are embedded, or entangled, in different contexts and societies, and yet they share a concerted engagement in human life.

Seminal investigations into the most important aspects of medieval Scots texts, with a particular focus on editing and manuscript context.This rich selection from the writings of Priscilla Bawcutt, the major scholar of Older Scots literature, both honours her achievement and provides authoritative guidance to all involved in the pleasures and challenges of medieval and early modern Scottish studies.The first five chapters, including a hitherto unpublished paper, gather her insights into how to examine, contextualize, and edit early poetic texts. Among her discussions are those on the importance of explanatory notes, the usefulness of fragments, the demands of transcription, and the need for objectivity when identifying supposed influences, date, or author. Bawcutt draws on a variety of texts, including Dunbar's'elrich fantasyis', Rolland's Court of Venus, and metrical Scottish charms to illustrate these aspects of editing. Two central chapters then give balance and coherence to the complex evidence of change in literary activities and tastes in early Scotland. First, an analytical survey of manuscript miscellanies, noting their diversity in size, condition, arrangement, copyists, owners, and purposes, offers many different ways to approach these compilations. Secondly, Bawcutt's study of one particular miscellany, the great five-part Bannatyne Manuscript, provides new information on the sources and authors of the many texts it contains and the diversity of their literary and cultural connections. Five further chapters combine textual and bibliographical studies with contextual explorations, into personal libraries, habits of reading, annotators, and book circulation within family groups, across borders, or over time. Among these illuminating essays are those on Gavin Douglas's imaginary library, and the influential first printed edition of his Eneados, both of increasing interest alongside the new edition of his translation.A full bibliography of Priscilla Bawcutt's publications is also included.

The Festschrift volume consists of 42 contributions by 55 authors from 13 countries. The papers, written in Catalan, English, French, Russian and Spanish, treat data from these and some other languages (Arabic, BCS [Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian], Czech, Finnish, Hebrew, Korean, Upper Kuskokwim Athabaskan [Alaska], Shughni [Pamir]). They pertain to virtually all branches of'core'synchronic linguistics (with occasional excursions into diachrony, literary theory, philology and religious studies): semantics, lexicology / lexicography, syntax and morphology. Some are more theoretically minded while others are focused on pedagogical and / or computational applications of language models, particularly those of the Meaning-Text theory. The topics covered are collocations and other types of phrasemes, lexical functions, syntactic dependencies, argument structure and grammatical voice, to mention just a few.

Cet ouvrage analyse les relations entre écriture et tradition à partir d'une réflexion sur la notion de figure tutélaire conçue comme modèle d'écriture et incarnation d'un héritage littéraire. Dans le prolongement de la tradition de l'imitatio, la figure tutélaire est envisagée au sens de'maître'ou de guide qui acquiert une fonction exemplaire dans le processus de création. Les contributions étudient les diverses modélisations des'Phares'(Baudelaire) dans la poésie et la prose de langue allemande aux 20e et 21e siècles. Le point de départ de la réflexion est l'ouvrage de Harold Bloom The anxiety of influence, qui considère les rapports entre l'écrivain et ses modèles comme une impitoyable «psychomachie». Si le concept d'Einfluss-Angst s'applique à la quête d'originalité de la modernité classique, on constate après 1945 l'élaboration de nouvelles formes d'interauctorialité et d'intertextualité. La notion d'Einfluss-Angst fait place à celle d'Einfluss-Lust propre aux écritures postmodernes.

L'essere umano ha da sempre avvertito la necessità della narrazione come elemento di riflessione e crescita e, nel tempo, la ha modellata in modo da rappresentare ciò di cui sentiva il bisogno. Oggi la narrazione passa attraverso diversi media e, allo stesso tempo, attraversa diverse culture, presentandosi necessariamente come transculturale. L'indagine teorico-critica che sta al centro di questo volume nasce dall'esigenza di comprendere la narrativa contemporanea, nel suo essere al tempo stesso transmediale e transculturale. In quest'ottica si esaminano alcuni esempi dai quali emergono problematiche relative a queste due questioni focalizzando vari generi letterari e narrazioni contemporanee televisive e filmiche. Collegando specifici testi letterari ad alcune trasposizioni nel formato di serie televisive è possibile rintracciare uno spazio transmediale'diffuso', collocato tra le narrazioni scritte e filmate. È proprio da questo fenomeno che è deducibile'l'intermedialità diffusa'come una caratteristica narratologica sintomatica chiave della cultura metamoderna.

Este volumen propone cartografiar constelaciones y redes literarias contemporáneas de escritoras latinoamericanas que viven y escriben en EE.UU. o Europa. Estas autoras comparten una sensibilidad común por cuestiones como el género, la lengua y la extraterritorialidad, en relación con sus diversas experiencias migrantes, mientras contribuyen a la construcción de un nuevo canon literario desde múltiples centros. Si bien la literatura latinoamericana, desde sus inicios, ha sido escrita tanto dentro como fuera de la región, la movilidad e internacionalización de sus escritoras, que trasciende fronteras geográficas, se ha intensificado en nuestros días. En este contexto, la presencia de autoras en este campo literario transnacional, expandido y atravesado por distintas lenguas, se ha multiplicado y consolidado de forma destacada y transformadora, al ritmo de una realidad cambiante y porosa, acompañada de una crítica encarnada, en la que también participan y con la que demuestran su propia agencia.

Este segundo volumen de homenaje a Joseph Snow, en el que han participado reconocidos especialistas internacionales, contiene un conjunto de acercamientos a los grandes poemas del mester de clerecía, así como varios trabajos sobre prosa castellana medieval. Se abordan cuestiones relativas al Libro de buen amor o a la obra de Berceo, pero también a Gil Vicente, la tradición oral o la herencia medieval de los siglos XV y XVI. El volumen constituye una valiosa presentación de los grandes motivos de la poesía y la prosa castellanas en los primeros siglos de la literatura española.

Unsettling Difference challenges the major-minor pattern that has framed discussions of German Jewish difference, focusing on instances that fall outside traditional understandings of minority culture. Exploring expressions of Jewish identity and difference in biblical-themed musical dramas and their literary sources, Adi Nester argues that the issue of Jewish difference should be treated as an aesthetic question in the first half of the twentieth century, even amid the rise of pseudoscientific theories about race and blood.Drawing on the fraught, parallel histories of opera and the modern reception of the Hebrew Bible in Germany, both significant in debates at the time about the nature of Jewish separateness, Unsettling Difference shows how this discourse troubles concepts of Jewish marginality and (non-Jewish) German dominance. Through innovative readings of key works in this tradition—Rudolf Borchardt's poem, Das Buch Joram; Paul Ben-Haim's oratorio, Joram; Arnold Schoenberg's opera, Moses und Aron; Joseph Roth's novel, Hiob; and Eric Zeisl's opera, Hiob—Nester shows how these biblical adaptations foreground alternative notions of difference that rely on confusion, ambiguity, radical heterogeneity, excess, and repetition.

Bereits kurz nach der Machtübernahme durch die Nationalsozialisten Anfang des Jahres 1933 verließen viele Deutsche ihr Land und wurden zu Emigrant•innen. Unter ihnen waren bekannte Schriftsteller•innen wie Thomas Mann, Bertolt Brecht, Anna Seghers oder Arnold Zweig. In ihrer publizistischen Tätigkeit gegen den NS-Staat kam dem Radio eine bedeutende Rolle zu. Zusammen mit anderen Emigrant•innen schrieben und gestalteten sie deutschsprachige Rundfunkprogramme zunächst in der Sowjetunion, der Tschechoslowakei, Frankreich und Spanien, kurz vor und während des Zweiten Weltkriegs kamen Programme in Großbritannien und den USA hinzu. Die Forschung hat sich bis zum Ende der 1970er Jahre nur in Ausnahmen mit der Rolle des Rundfunks im Kampf gegen Hitler beschäftigt. Konrad Pütters Handbuch Rundfunk gegen das ‚Dritte Reich‘ war daher 1986 eine Grundlagenarbeit. Drei Jahrzehnte später veröffentlichte Hans Sarkowicz die Dokumentation Geheime Sender. Der Rundfunk im Widerstand gegen Hitler! (2016), in der auf Grundlage einer jahrelangen Archivarbeit auf acht CDs der Rundfunk als „Instrument des Widerstandes“ in den verschiedenen Exilländern erfasst wird. An diese Arbeiten schließt der vorliegende Band an, der in verschiedenen Beiträgen offene Forschungsfragen schließt und herausstellt, in welchen Ländern welche Sender installiert wurden und wer die Mitarbeiter•innen waren. Es geht dabei auch um die bevorzugten Textsorten sowie die Frage, in welche Weise die entstehenden Kommunikationsräume genutzt wurden.

In der Literaturwissenschaft wurden historische Europa-Diskurse, die vom liberaldemokratischen Europa-Verständnis des frühen 21. Jahrhunderts abwichen, bislang entweder zu wenig oder aber mit präsentistischen Tendenzen analysiert. Das gilt in besonderer Weise für den deutschsprachigen Europa-Diskurs in der Weimarer Republik und der Ersten Republik Österreich. Die interdisziplinäre Studie an der Schnittstelle von Literatur- und Geschichtswissenschaft beleuchtet daher erstmals systematisch die Rolle deutschsprachiger Schriftsteller im rechten, antiliberalen Europa-Diskurs zwischen 1918 und 1933/34. Im Fokus stehen Orientierungsversuche und Positionskämpfe in einer komplexen weltanschaulichen Gemengelage, transnationale Netzwerke und Medien des Diskurses sowie die literarästhetische Multidimensionalität reflexiver Schreibweisen. Es wird sichtbar, welche Reichweite und Integrationswirkung antiliberale Europa-Ideen über konventionelle politisch-weltanschauliche Lagergrenzen hinweg entfalteten, nicht zuletzt aufgrund ihrer Vertextungsverfahren. Der Band versammelt Beiträge zu der europäischen Geschichte dieser anthropologisch ausgerichteten ästhetischen Kommunikation. Die Aufsätze der ersten Sektion beschäftigen sich mit der zeitgenössichen Theorie der ästhetischen Wissensvermittlung: Es wird die fachübergreifende (Proto-) Ästhetik Shaftesburys und Addisons, die Sprachtheorie von Coleridge bzw. die schwierige Einbürgerüng der Disziplin ›Ästhetik‹ in Frankreich thematisiert. Im zweiten Teil beschäftigen sich zwei Aufsätze mit der Kommunikation durch Bilder, anhand der Analyse von Gemälden Jean-Siméon Chardins und Caspar David Friedrichs. Neu bearbeitet und aktualisiert wurden auch die umfangreichen Verzeichnisse im Anhang: über 1.000 literarische Übersetzerinnen und Übersetzer (mit Sprachenregister), über 700 Verlage, über 500 Literaturpreise mit den Preisträgern der letzten Jahre, mehr als 500 Fachverbände und literarische Vereinigungen, Literaturhäuser, etwa 200 literarische Zeitschriften und Periodika sowie literarische Agenturen, Kulturredaktionen von Rundfunk- und Fernsehanstalten und literarische Feuilletons werden aufgeführt.

Mike Neary was a renowned critical educator, Professor of Sociology at the University of Lincoln, and a founding member of the Social Science Centre, Lincoln. He died in January 2023, and in the months prior to his death, the editors of this book met with Mike and, with his guidance, worked with him on a collection of his writings. Mike was once asked why he wrote and he responded, «I write for the future» This book gathers some of his key writings to keep alive the critical legacy which Mike's life and work embodied. It contains a body of work written by Mike on his own, with his close collaborators, as well as contributions written about him. The work gathered here in this book attests to Mike's lifelong critical engagement with the work of Karl Marx, and as his work shows, this is an engagement on terms which are uniquely his own, reflecting Mike's unique vision, his deep egalitarianism, his personal warmth, and his critical intellect.

Die hier vorgelegte Studie begreift sich als Fortführung der Arbeiten an einer philologischen Hermeneutik des Textes, die 1977 abgebrochen wurden und hier zu einem Abschluß gebracht werden. Friedrich Schleiermachers Fragment gebliebenes Interpretationssystem wird ergänzt und kritisch fortgeführt. Einbezogen werden die Positionen von Wilhelm Dilthey, Martin Heidegger, Hans-Georg Gadamer und Paul Ricœur, insofern sie relevant für die Textauslegung sind. Das Buch stellt eine begriffstheoretisch fundierte und kritisch erörterte Theorie sowie eine Methodenlehre der Interpretation bereit. Ihre Prämisse bildet der verstehende Zugriff auf ein jeweiliges Werk. Abgerundet wird die Studie mit einer Beispielinterpretation zu Samuel Becketts Waiting for Godot. Hiermit liegt Teil 1 einer Grundlegung der Textinterpretation vor, die ergänzt werden wird durch eine Untersuchung der Fiktionalität mit Teil 2 sowie der Pragmatik des literarischen Textes mit Teil 3.

Ein besonderes Gewicht kommt dabei der Königsberger Lokalität zu, hat Hamann doch hier die prägenden Jahre der Kindheit, der Schul- und Studienzeit sowie auch die längste Zeit seiner beruflichen Tätigkeit verbracht. Hier hat sich seine'Individualität und Personalität'entwickelt; hier hat er Gesprächspartner gefunden, die ihn zu vielfältigen Beiträgen angeregt und herausgefordert haben. Diese besondere'Localität'mit ihrem Beziehungsnetz genauer auszuleuchten, ist ein Desiderat der Forschung, dem dieser Tagungsband nachkommen will. Johann Georg Hamann believed that his writings were characterised by'... the most precise locality, individuality and personality'. The locality of Königsberg was of particular importance; as it was in Königsberg that Hamann spent his formative years of childhood, school and university, as well as the longest period of his professional life. Königsberg is the place where he built his'individuality and personality'; it is where he found conversation partners who inspired him to make a variety of contributions and challenged him. It is a desideratum of research to examine this special'locality'together with its network in more detail.

Frühere Erkenntnisse und Bewertungen wurden herangezogen, jedoch kaum kritisch hinterfragt. Vor dem Hintergrund einer veränderten geisteswissenschaftlichen Forschungslandschaft im 21. Jahrhundert beleuchtet dieser Band die reichhaltige Überlieferung zum Werk und Wirken Dehmels. Dabei werden Richard Dehmel und sein Werk aus einer medien- und materialorientierten sowie kulturhistorisch-praxeologischen Perspektive in der europäischen Moderne der Jahrhundertwende verortet und vor dem Hintergrund der zeitgenössischen sozialen, kulturellen und gesellschaftlichen Praktiken betrachtet. Durch diese Herangehensweise tritt auch die entscheidende Rolle seiner Frau, der Kunstförderin und Frauenrechtlerin Ida Dehmel (1870-1942), für das gemeinsame Lebenswerk hervor. The 21st-century story economy is grounded on the premise that everyone – from individual social media users to political parties and multinational corporations – needs to become storytellers. At the same time, we witness the erosion of borders between fact, fiction, truth and lies within the public sphere. Junkiert scrutinizes the relationship of Polish intellectuals with their predecessors in this field in France and the German-speaking culture. The book describes scholarly rivalry between nations in search of their own visions of antiquity. Methodologically, the book develops the vein of classical reception studies. The key figures of this study are Adam Mickiewicz, Joachim Lelewel, and Gottfried Ernst Groddeck.

Die Beiträger:innen zeigen aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive die zeitgenössischen und übergreifenden kulturellen Konzepte auf, die sich mit der Paradiesvorstellung im Œuvre von Schwarz verbinden: Frömmigkeit, Natursehnsucht, Land- und Stadtleben, Diesseits und Jenseits. Ebenso wird ihre Dichtung in bislang wenig beachtete Kontexte gestellt: holländische Bezüge, medizinhistorische Hintergründe, literatur- und musikgeschichtliches Umfeld, europäische Vergleiche. Ziel ist, die materiellen, poetologischen, persönlichen und sozialen Vernetzungen in der Dichtung von Schwarz aufzuzeigen. The book offers new insights into the work of the celebrated German Baroque Poet Sibylla Schwarz through a process of multiple careful contextualizations. Drawing on the disciplines of music and theatre history, as well as philology, theology and the history of medicine, it helps to correct errors and open up new avenues in the field of Schwarz scholarship. Moving outwards from the various ways in which the biblical notion of paradise figures in her work (as garden, arcadia, metaphysical marriage bed), it revisits her life and work in the light of the practices and discourses of the time, offers comparisons with contemporary authors of other nationalities and with later German-language writers; and thus places the poet at the centre of a series of interlocking spatio-temporal networks.

Essays on and interviews with minoritized writers of contemporary Germany, mostly women or non-binary, whose literary interventions write radical diversity into the dominant culture and challenge fixed frames of identity.In Germany today, an increasing number of minoritized authors - many of them women, nonbinary, or other marginalized genders - are staging literary interventions that foreground the long-standing complexity and radical diversity of German identities. They are reconceiving, redefining, and rewriting understandings of'Germanness'by centering previously marginalized perspectives and challenging fixed frames of nationality, ethnicity, language, gender, sexuality, and even time and space. In so doing, they open new ways of conceiving of self and other, individual and collective, and thus envision alliances and communities that do justice to the range of lived experiences in Germany.Drawing on frameworks of postmigration, postcolonialism, intersectionality, critical race and whiteness studies, and feminist and queer theory, this volume investigates various literary strategies employed by writers representing diverse subject positions to engage creatively with questions of hegemonic culture and belonging, exposing the exclusionary if not violent practices that these entail. The volume showcases cutting-edge scholarship by established and early career researchers, and is innovative in format: essays treating works by authors such as Fatma Aydemir, Shida Bazyar, Asal Dardan, Sharon Dodua Otoo, Antje Rávik Strubel, Noah Sow, Jackie Thomae, and Olivia Wenzel, along with original interviews with Stefanie-Lahya Aukongo, Özlem Özgül Dündar, Sasha Marianna Salzmann, and Mithu Sanyal illustrate the plurality, agency, and increasing resonance of these literary figures and their works.The chapter by Leila Essa,'Seen as Friendly, Seen as Frightening?
