Writing comprises a significant proportion of academic staff members'roles. While academics have been acculturated to the notion of ‘publish or perish,'they often struggle to find the time to accomplish writing papers and tend to work alone. The result can be a sense of significant stress and isolation around the writing process. Writing partnerships, groups, and retreats help mitigate these challenges and provide significant positive writing experiences for their members. Los capítulos de este volumen monográfico parten de principios teóricos ampliamente extendidos en las últimas décadas, en relación a la enseñanza de la escritura, entendida como proceso que no concluye con la adquisición de técnicas básicas de alfabetización, sino que, muy por el contrario, se desarrolla de manera compleja en función del contexto de comunicación en el que se encuentre el sujeto. La educación superior y sus áreas disciplinares generan unos marcos y unas pautas de actividad escritora, cuyo dominio sólo puede aprenderse en las propias universidades, con la implicación del profesorado. Escritura a través del curriculum o escritura en las disciplinas son rótulos que ayudan a evidenciar el papel epistémico de la práctica escrita. Desde y gracias a ésta, el conocimiento se adquiere y se genera. Las primeras universidades en tomar conciencia de la necesidad de abordar la enseñanza de la escritura, no sólo para remediar el déficit de competencias básicas de algunos estudiantes, sino sobre todo para proporcionarles los modos específicos de leer y escribir, requeridos en cada una de las disciplinas, en grados y postgrados, fueron las anglosajonas. Hoy en día es también relevante el volumen de investigación que aportan especialistas procedentes de Latinoamérica y, aunque con relativo retraso, van apareciendo contribuciones en las universidades españolas, que subrayan la importancia de la escritura como eje vertebrador del aprendizaje, y se preguntan acerca de cómo contribuir a la formación del alumnado, con implicación de la institución y del propio colectivo de profesores.
