Every year, the Bibliography catalogues the most important new publications, historiographical monographs, and journal articles throughout the world, extending from prehistory and ancient history to the most recent contemporary historical studies. Within the systematic classification according to epoch, region, and historical discipline, works are also listed according to author's name and characteristic keywords in their title. Volume LXXXIV (2015) mentions works published with the date 2015, in thirty-five languages (in order of appearance: Italian, French, Latin, Hebrew, Romanian, English, German, Castilian, Spanish, Dutch, Persian, Hungarian, Swedish, Latvian, Arab, Portuguese, Serbian, Finnish, Danish, Slovak, Polish, Croatian, Russian, Bulgarian, Norwegian, Greek, Turkish, Japanese, Catalan, Czech, Lithuanian, Chinese, Korean, Ukrainian, Belarusian, Kurdish). The large Editorial Board of IBHS is interdisciplinary and multinational, reflecting the composition of the research community the journal will serve. This breadth of languages ​​and countries represented is an important sign of continuity in a publication characterized since from its origins by a broad sight and a collective work.

The first ever collection of essays in English on Iacopone da Todi by a diverse group of international scholars, this book offers a contemporary critical assessment on this medieval Franciscan poet of the thirteenth century. Combining philological analyses with thematic studies and philosophical and theological interpretations of the original contents and style of Iacopone's poetry, the collection considers a wide range of topics, from music to prayer and performance, mysticism, asceticism, ineffability, Mariology, art, poverty, and the challenges of translation. It is a major contribution to the understanding of Iacopone's laude in the 21st century. In Toledo in 1529, a converso named Pedro de Cazalla declared that the connection between man and God was but a thread and that it should not be mediated by the Church. Hardly an isolated phenomenon, Cazalla's inner spirituality was a widespread response to the increasing repression of religious dissent enacted by the Inquisition. Forced baptisms of Jews and Muslims had profound effects across Spanish society, leading famous intellectuals as well as ordinary men and women to rethink their sense of belonging to the Christian community and their forms of religiosity. Thus, in this book, early modern Iberia emerges as a laboratory of European-wide transformations.

This volume is a collection of essays written in honor of David Burr, emeritus professor at the Polytechnic University of Virginia (Blacksburg): a scholar who has spent a career researching and publishing on the multi-faceted phenomenon of the Spiritual Franciscans (late 13th-early 14th century) and, in particular, on the life and writings of Peter of John Olivi in southern France. Representing some of the finest scholars in the field these eighteen scholarly essays touch on aspects of both phenomena. Three essays are devoted to the historiography of David Burr; three are dedicated to medieval Apocalypticism; another seven deal specifically with Peter of John Olivi; and five final essays explore aspects of the Spiritual Franciscans, their precursors and adherents. Petrus Johannis Olivi (ca. 1248-1298) gilt heute als einer der Hauptakteure des intellektuellen Lebens der zweiten Hälfte des 13. Jahrhunderts. Die hier zusammengestellten Beiträge (in französischer und italienischer Sprache) präsentieren auf der einen Seite eine Untersuchung der Unternehmungen Olivis und ihrer Auswirkungen, von der Konzeption seiner Studien und des Berufs als Theologe bis zu seiner Rezeption in der zeitgenössischen Geschichtsschreibung, ohne dabei die Einflüsse einiger seiner Theorien im 14. Jahrhundert zu vernachlässigen. Auf der anderen Seite zeigt der Band einen Querschnitt durch das philosophische Denken Olivis auf. Von den klassischen Fragen der scholastischen Welt, die bis heute in seinem Werk zu wenig untersucht wurden, werden folgende behandelt: die Konzeption der Materie und der Bewegung, anthropologische Fragen, die Theorie der Definition und der Erkenntnis. Ausserdem wird seine besondere intellektuelle Haltung dokumentiert. Der Band enthält Untersuchungen die sich mit den philosophischen Quellen Olivis befassen, mit seiner Verwendung von Philosophen ebenso wie mit seiner biblischen Hermeneutik. Der Anhang liefert neben einer Edition von Impugnatio quorundam articulorum Arnaldi Galliardi, articulus 19, einem polemischen Text, in dem Olivi eine aktivistische Konzeption des Intellekts verteidigt, auch eine erste französische Übersetzung des Textes De perlegendis philosophorum libris («Wie muss man die Werke der Philosophen lesen»), zusammen mit dem lateinischen Ursprungstext und einer Einführung.

Die IBOHS verzeichnet jährlich die bedeutendsten Neuerscheinungen geschichtswissenschaftlicher Monographien und Zeitschriftenartikel weltweit, die inhaltlich von der Vor- und Frühgeschichte bis zur jüngsten Vergangenheit reichen. Sie ist damit die derzeit einzige laufende Bibliographie dieser Art, die thematisch, zeitlich und geographisch ein derart breites Spektrum abdeckt. Innerhalb der systematischen Gliederung nach Zeitalter, Region oder historischer Disziplin sind die Werke nach Autorennamen oder charakteristischem Titelhauptwort aufgelistet.
