- Abstract
This study uses a series of medieval texts to address a set of urgent critical issues in Humanities centring on categories of L/literature, history, periodization, languages, and descriptions of script. These categories are inherited from the foundation of modern disciplines and fields of study, superimposed on what could be more flexible modes of scholarship. They are reinforced by modern academics in ways that hinder nuance, intellectual nimbleness, and new interpretative possibilities. Readers and researchers of English Language, Literature, Book Historical/Media Studies, and History are obliged by delimiting labels to navigate problematic foundational approaches and sources that confine and frustrate scholarly investigation. Through a series of cogent case studies, all situated from 1050 to 1250, the book highlights how restrictive and hierarchical modern scholarly categories can sometimes be.

- Abstract

- Abstract

- Abstract
This innovative and practical book offers pedagogical tools to show how drama can be used in educational settings to advance a relational, action-oriented, interdisciplinary, and creative climate education attuned to the social and emotional effects of the climate emergency. Based on a six-year ethnographic research study taking place with teachers, artists, community leaders, and young people globally, and taking its lead from the following provocation – can performance become a site for new imaginaries for socio-ecological justice? – the book explores the unique conceptual and pedagogical ‘discontents'of climate education across geographically and culturally distinct sites of learning. It also examines how artful engagement through drama pedagogies can open up more collective, critical, and hopeful forms of thinking and being. The book is divided into two sections. The first part of the book, Local engagements and encounters, consists of chapters that conduct an in-depth appraisal of the local artistic work from each site, examining how matters of socio-ecological justice are given fresh urgency and complexity through the application of performance as pedagogy. The second part of the book, Pedagogical and artistic innovations, offers substantive praxis chapters on the drama-based pedagogical methods employed in the research. In these chapters, the world-building capacities of theatre-making offer up new, performative pedagogical orientations to the climate emergency beyond those of critique.Global Climate Education and Its Discontents: Using Drama to Forge a New Way is valuable reading for scholars interested in the ontological and epistemological dimensions of the climate emergency, especially within and across the following fields: drama, theatre and performance studies, applied theatre and drama education, educational research, and children/childhood and youth studies. The book also invites a readership of teachers and teacher-educators who are interested in applying drama pedagogies in the classroom to explore matters of socio-ecological justice and the climate crisis.

- Abstract
Researchers in special education have been developing a knowledge base of evidence-based practices that improve the outcomes of students with disabilities. Unfortunately, filtering that knowledge into classrooms implemented by special education teachers has been a challenge. In The Essentials of Special Education Research, Andrew M. Markelz and Benjamin S. Riden directly address the persistent research-to-practice gap by systematically presenting the essential components of research that every special education teacher must know. The first section investigates the foundations of research and why special education teachers should regularly read research articles. It also examines the basic structure of research articles to demystify jargon and provide teachers confidence when reading scientific literature. The second section explores various research methodologies that consumers of research must know. Methodologies such as literature reviews, single-case design, quantitative, qualitative, and others are unpacked so that special education teachers know the critical components of these methodologies, along with their limitations, to become critical consumers of research. The third section focuses on putting this knowledge into practice. Using practical scenarios, the authors demonstrate how a special education teacher can combat common classroom problems by locating and reading relevant research to gain information and implement best practices based on scientific evidence. This step-by-step guide combines the knowledge and skills outlined in this book to truly become a scientific practitioner.

- Abstract
Impact/Impasse argues for the value of everyday life in college classrooms. Quantifiable categories such as high-impact practice, student engagement, and integrative learning have captured the imagination of a generation of higher education researchers, practitioners, administrators, and policymakers. But they miss those mundane moments, or'impasses,'that resist capture by metrics while nevertheless shaping student outcomes. Impact/Impasse blends critical theories and ethnographic research—conducted before and during the COVID-19 pandemic—to argue that learning happens in ordinary moments. Indeed, in sharing anecdotes from both in-person and virtual classrooms, the coauthors show how the so-called new normal is little different from the old in its neoliberal attachment to data. Impact/Impasse provides a conceptual and practical foundation for an alternative approach to valuing impacts on their own terms, in excess of quantification.

Viv Ellis, Lauren Gatti and Warwick Mansell present a unique and international analysis of teacher education policy. Adopting a political economy perspective, this distinctive text provides a comparative analysis of three contrasting welfare state models – the US, England and Norway – following the 2008 Global Financial Crisis (GFC). Arguing that a new political economy of teacher education began to emerge in the decade following the GFC, the authors explore key concepts in education privatisation and examine the increasingly important role of shadow state enterprises in some jurisdictions. This topical text demonstrates the potential of a political economy approach when analysing education policies regarding pre-service teacher education and continuing professional development.

- Abstract
This book presents a new set of ideas to challenge established thinking and to guide researching and designing teacher professional development. Grounded in the work of the Learning4Teaching Project which documented public-sector teachers'experiences and learning from professional development in three countries, the volume presents a sociomaterial perspective on teacher sensemaking. This teacher-centered perspective disputes the'conventional calculus'in which teachers learn content that they apply in their classrooms. Part I outlines conventional issues in how teacher learning and professional development have been conceptualized and studied; Part II introduces a new group of concepts that rethink these assumptions; and Part III offers important insights to inform professional development across disciplines, cultures, and contexts.Written by a leading international teacher educator in an accessible style that incorporates visual representations and project data, the book will appeal to practitioners, scholars, and researchers who design and research how teachers learn in professional development.

- Abstract
This book covers the construction of international education research community in the 1950s-1990s, and the growth of its ‘disembedded'laboratory i.e. networks, spaces, materiality, travelling, translations. The book follows a sociology of science theoretical framework in order to examine the research-archive of the Swedish internationally renowned educational scholar Torsten Husén (1916-2009). The archive reveals the shifting and heterogenous transnational networks that contribute to the development of social science research beyond fixed time and space dimensions, and that extends social science beyond individual ideas, researchers, environments, institutions and universities. These are practices that create, mobilise, sustain and challenge relations between actors in innovations, knowledge creation and various social activities. In other words, the archive represents the socio-material manifestation not only of the intellectual trajectory of a key education actor but the growing organisation of a whole scientific field at the time.

Sérgio Bairon and Sérgio Bairon
- Abstract
Prof. Dr. Rui Torres

- Abstract
This open access book addresses methodological issues related to researching young children's learning and development, teacher education, and professional development. It pays special attention to research conducted in digital contexts in response to the new societal demands of a global pandemic and crisis. It illustrates and discusses new methods and tools, new study designs, new analysis techniques, and new procedures developed in a time of crisis in two different parts of the world, Australia and Norway. The book suggests that, during the global pandemic, a theoretical crisis in researching children's development in different contexts has emerged, which has not only created the need for new methods and methodologies, but has opened the space for the development of theory itself. Following a cultural-historical perspective, this book theorises these new approaches to create new theoretical concepts and new ways of researching, better understanding, and efficiently supporting childhoods in a continually changing world. This book is a great resource for researchers and students in the fields of early childhood education and educational psychology.

- Abstract
Drawing from in-depth interviews with alumni across the disciplines, this book explores the benefits of undergraduate research: meaningful intellectual engagement, a sense of belonging in the campus community, and vocational clarity and career success after college. What matters to alumni about their research experience is often not what is represented in scholarship. The compelling stories featured in this text describe intellectual and emotional uncertainty and excitement; deeply personal mentoring relationships; and the powerful ways in which undergraduate research shapes and directs career paths. The book brings a novel perspective that begins during the research experience and extends into the years after college, offering practical insight into program design, mentoring, and research-to-career practices that are flexible enough to be implemented in the natural sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. This book speaks to faculty, staff, and administrators at a wide range of institutions, regardless of experience or comfort level with undergraduate research. Supplemental resources—including discussion questions for each chapter, short videos of dialogue between undergraduate researchers and their mentors, and more—are available at www.centerforengagedlearning.org/books/a-long-view.

- Abstract
This landmark publication for critical researchers develops and exemplifies a new methodology for researching education leadership, which Courtney has called Critical Education Leadership and Policy Scholarship (CELP). Building on the work of Helen Gunter, the chapters transform what Gunter identifies as a critical space, with its knowledge-production traditions and typical tools, into a distinctive and novel methodology specifically for investigating the co-constitution of education leadership and policy. Positioned at the intersection of education, policy, and society, the authors focus on a range of contexts from England, Ireland, Australia, and China, theorising the interrelationship between education leadership and policy whilst showcasing the advancement of a new methodology for exploring education leadership from a critical perspective. Topics discussed include how school leaders are navigating mistrust in politics, barriers faced by women leaders in HEIs in China, and the responsibility of educational leaders to establish a culture of care in their institutions. Bringing together internationally emerging scholars with leading researchers from within the fields of educational leadership and policy, Critical Education Leadership and Policy Scholarship includes an Afterword by Emerita Professor Helen Gunter.

- Abstract
Drawing connections between the findings of a research project following young graduates from the Scottish islands of Orkney and Shetland, current international evidence, and theoretical literature, this book argues that understanding rural and island student transitions can expose the wider dynamics of place and mobility at play during student and early career experiences.Highlighting the importance of a career perspective, Rosie Alexander encourages readers to consider how career pathways develop across time and across transition points, unsettling the notion of a straightforward transition through university into the workplace. The book uncovers how student trajectories are developed through interweaving dynamics of relationships, place, and career routes and unpacks the implications for policymakers and practitioners. It contends that a much greater spatial awareness is necessary to understand and support the educational and career pathways of higher education students. This is a crucial read for higher education researchers, policymakers, and students interested in rurality as well as access to and transition from higher education.

- Abstract
This book collates the practitioner stories of university-school partnerships for the renewal of educator preparation (US PREP) teacher preparation programs across the nation, documenting the programs'efforts to enact scaled transformative practices within their institutions. Examples include the way in which educators engage multiple stakeholders in program improvement, transform the clinical preparation of teacher candidates, develop measures of program success, and create the conditions for transformative change. Each chapter highlights the efforts of one or more of US PREP's 32 university-based teacher preparation coalition programs. Together, the chapters offer insight into how a national coalition can effectively support transformation at the local level while creating opportunities for multilayered collaboration within and across institutions. Contributors include teacher educators and educational leaders, and topics of chapters include using data for program decision-making; applying a change management model; establishing governance over school-university partnerships; developing a vision of teaching shared between universities and school districts; promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion; and improving teacher and teacher educator professional development. Chapters also present solutions for some of the most prominent challenges in teacher education program improvement, including faculty engagement, stakeholder collaboration, university policy alignment, and state and national accreditation.Designed as a textbook, this book provides a series of guiding questions after each chapter to promote further reflection and discussion. Ideal for teacher educators, educational leaders, school practitioners, and graduate students of education, this book offers insider information that can help these stakeholders to better facilitate collaboration and participation in the improvement, scale, and sustainability of clinically rich and culturally diverse teacher preparation.

- Abstract
White Folks explores the experiences and stories of eight white people from a small farming community in northern Wisconsin. Drawing on in-depth interviews with Delores, Frank, William, Erin, Robert, Libby, and Stan, as well as on his own experiences growing up in this same rural community, Lensmire creates a portrait of white people that highlights the profound ambivalence that has characterized white thinking and feeling in relation to people of color for at least the last two hundred years. White people's relations to people of color and their cultures are characterized not just by fear, rejection, and violence, but also by attraction, envy, and desire. There is nothing smooth about the souls of white folks. This second edition of White Folks features a new foreword—by renowned critical whiteness studies scholar David Roediger—that places the book in historical and political context. It also includes an expanded discussion by Lensmire on doing research on race with white people.

- Abstract
The core concept of this book is one that resonates with everyone, yet it is explored and presented in a fresh and unique perspective as envisioned by the author. After delving into and discussing this familiar idea, the author arrives at a profound conclusion: that humans embody contradictions within themselves. This introspection leads back to the timeless question: what truly defines a human? In this insightful exploration, the author proposes that humanity is inherently chaotic and self-contradictory. This raises a compelling question in our current era of digital advancement and artificial intelligence: Are we, as a species, still influenced by an ‘archaic mindset'in this modern age? This book challenges readers to reconsider their understanding of human nature in the context of rapidly evolving technology.
