- Abstract
The world ecological system is marked by difference throughout. There is social difference with different identities, shifting and transmuting, being forged, and extra-human differences. All these have implications for intra human and human/non-human earth relations. This aspect is not always recognised and valorised. Education, though not an independent variable, still can be mobilised, together with other sources of potential transformation, to redress this situation marked by aggressions, micro and macro, inertia and indifference. It represents a number of immediate challenges for Adult Education. This compendium is intended as a useful resource in this regard. It maps out a kaleidoscope of myriad differences and suggests options for overcoming the various obstacles that stand opposed to those who seek fulfilment in the way they are discursively located. The obstacles are a dent on efforts to living in communion with the rest of the cosmos. The utopian view is that of different species living in harmony with each other. This book emphasises social/ecological justice, intersectionality and relationality as the targets for Adult Education in this relatively still new millennium. Contributors are: Sharifah Salmah Binti Abdullah, Thi Bogossian, Lauren Bouttell, Lidiane Nunes de Castro, Anyela Nathalie Gomez Deantonio, Preeti Dagar, Raquel Galeano Giminez, Ksenija Joksimović, Kainat Khurshid, Robert Livingston, Peter Mayo, Sonia Medel, Yunah Park, Zainab Sa'id Sa'ad, Bonnie Slade, Gameli Kodzo Tordzro, Agnieszka Uflewska and Aisara Yessenova.

- Abstract
This book provides an in-depth exploration of sexual consent communication and negotiation practices among students and efforts to prevent and respond to sexual coercion and violence within the context of North American higher education institutions.Delving into the complexities of communication around sexual consent, it examines how factors such as identity, early learning experiences, societal norms, and coercive elements influence interactions among young adult postsecondary students. It emphasizes the importance of agency in intimate settings and how this is shaped by these factors. The methodology employed in this decade-long research is innovative and interview-based, providing a rich narrative from student perspectives. These narratives serve to highlight the intricate interplay between individual agency and societal expectations in intimate situations. The book also incorporates valuable insights from other experts in the field. These contributions serve to contextualize the study's findings within the broader theoretical framework and research on the subject. This approach not only enriches the descriptions of the study but also provides a more holistic understanding of the topic. As such, the book ultimately helps to inform educational policies and professional practices to promote sexual agency and address pressing issues such as sexual coercion, violence, and assault on campus. This volume will appeal to researchers and stakeholders in higher education, including educators, upper-level students, professional practitioners, and parents. - Abstract
This book analyzes how children and adolescents aged between 10 and 17 engage with digital advertising and highlights the importance of promoting advertising literacy to help young audiences recognize advertising and distinguish it from other media content in the digital age. As the advertising sector evolves, incorporating new formats like branded content and influencer marketing, the frontiers between commercial content and regular media become blurred, posing a challenge for children and adolescents to discern persuasive intent in advertising and distinguish advertising from other media content. In this context, it is crucial to assess children and adolescents'preparedness to navigate digital advertising effectively by understanding their level of advertising literacy. With a higher level of advertising literacy, young audiences can evaluate advertisements, considering factors such as product appeal, presentation, and relevance to their experiences, as well as grasp thepurpose behind advertising and the techniques employed. This contributed volume brings together empirical studies and literature reviews to present an overview of the current research on advertising literacy among boys and girls aged between 10 and 17 in different countries to help educators, policymakers, advertisers, and society at large collaborate in nurturing responsible, informed, and ethically conscious digital citizens. Advertising Literacy for Young Audiences in the Digital Age: A Critical Attitude to Embedded Formats will be of interest to researchers working with media education, media sociology and childhood and adolescence studies. It will also help educators and policymakers develop better strategies to prepare children and adolescents to navigate digital advertising effectively.

- Abstract
This book introduces and explores a new pedagogical approach, Aesthetic Positive Pedagogy (APP), for teachers and students in a variety of educational contexts. The book is built on the need for educational institutions and communities to seriously consider a strong positive approach to learning and teaching, ultimately leading to a better world. Based on pre-existing philosophies such as positive pedagogy and critical pedagogy, APP encourages teachers to carefully consider their language use as well as other modal resources in the classroom. Using aesthetic experience as a core to learning, teachers can embed an approach to learning and teaching that supports wellbeing and resilience as well as caring and compassionate citizenship in their students. The authors outline what an APP approach to learning and teaching looks, feels and sounds like in different educational contexts such as in schools and higher education, and explore how it might be implemented in face-to-face as well as online learning. The book's findings will apply to postgraduate students and academics in education and the creative arts, as well as teachers and leaders in schools.

- Abstract
An Age of Accountability highlights the role of test-based accountability as a policy framework in American education from 1970 to 2020. For more than half a century, the quest to hold schools and educators accountable for academic achievement has relied almost exclusively on standardized assessment. The theory of change embedded in almost all test-based accountability programs held that assessment with stipulated consequences could lead to major improvements in schools. This was accomplished politically by proclaiming lofty goals of attaining universal proficiency and closing achievement gaps, which repeatedly failed to materialize. But even after very clear disappointments, no other policy framework has emerged to challenge its hegemony. The American public today has little confidence in institutions to improve the quality of goods and services they provide, especially in the public sector. As a consequence, many Americans continue to believe that accountability remains a vital necessity, even if educators and policy scholars disagree.

- Abstract
This comprehensive volume highlights and centers untold histories of education at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) from 1937 to 2020, using the critical voices of artists, scholars, designers, and educators. Exploring these histories as transformative and paradigm-shifting in museum education, it elevates MoMA educators as vocal advocates for harnessing the educational power that museums inherently possess.Divided into three interlinked parts, the first sheds light on the early educational endeavors of the museum while analyzing the context of art education in the United States. The second part focuses on the tenures of Victor D'Amico and Betty Blayton, utilizing the MoMA archives as a primary resource. It includes essays by Ellen Winner, Luis Camnitzer, Susan E. Cahan, Michelle Millar Fisher, HECTOR (Jae Shin & Damon Rich), Gregory Sholette, Carol Duncan, Moreen Maser, Nana Adusei-Poku, Carmen Mörsch, Rika Burnham, Donna M. Jones, and José Ortiz. The third part presents the perspectives of William Burback, Philip Yenawine, Patterson Sims, Deborah F. Schwartz, and Wendy Woon as former MoMA Directors of Education in their own words and considers the forces that shaped their work. This timely and unique exploration ultimately aims to trace and understand the fundamental and evolving concerns of a seemingly underexamined profession constantly striving to maintain relevance in an environment marked by institutional, social, and political uncertainty. Exploring the radical acts undertaken to keep the museum true to its original promise, it delineates the paradox whereby education is both central and invisible to the identity of MoMA and museums more broadly and re-centers the conception of the museum as an educational institution. It is designed for scholars, researchers, and post-graduate students interested in arts education, visual literacy, museum studies, and communication studies.

Yet, the future of online assessment faces major challenges including, perhaps most importantly, the extent to which assessments, when enabled by technology, can serve simultaneously the needs of learners, teachers and those of the enterprise of education. This book details, specifically, the multiple ways in which online assessment can be utilized, such as:Providing virtual coaching or tutoringOffering appropriate scaffoldingAllowing analysis of student decision-making Providing the mechanism for students to review and comment on each others digital creationsCreating a space for online discussionProviding expert coaching for modeling and animation workWith the increased availability of vast and highly varied amounts of data from learners, teachers, learning environments, and administrative systems within educational settings, further opportunities arise for advancing pedagogical assessment practice (Ifenthaler et al., 2018). This book fully details these opportunities, as well as privileges and constraints of analytics-enhanced assessment, harnessing formative as well as summative data from learners and their contexts in order to facilitate learning processes in near real-time and help decisionmakers to improve learning environments.

- Abstract
Offering a contemporary overview of how visual art teachers assess learning in their classrooms, this book provides an outline of the role of assessment in reporting not only student achievement but also how student assessment ties to the intrinsic and external assessments of teacher performance.Compiled using stories from the classrooms of 19 visual art high school teachers who share their approaches to benchmarking student success, the text encourages teachers to consider assessment both for guiding their students to achieve artistic goals and for re-envisioning their own curriculum and instruction. The featured assessment snapshots fall along four strands: Visual Narratives and Visual Literacy; Capturing Empathic Understandings and Social Engagement; Measuring Risk-taking and Ingenuity; and Assessing Collaborative and Integrated Learning Outcomes. Across these sections, teacher contributors offer different perspectives for student assessment, capturing a snapshot of the work of skilled practitioners and focusing on various aspects of what can be evidenced and analyzed through formative and summative evaluation. The voices of university level art educators are also included to expand the range of context from curriculum and instruction content that is covered in pre-service art methods courses. All sections also conclude with a summary, questions, and discussion points.Including diverse teacher voices as well as presenting assessment perspectives with an eye to the National Core Art Standards (NCAS), this book is ideal for pre-service and in-service secondary art educators, as well as for use in art education teacher certification courses that focus on secondary methods, and art education graduate classes in assessment.

- Abstract
In curriculum studies, we pay critical attention to violence in various forms; why not to nonviolence? This original and inspirational book foregrounds nonviolence as a positive force in education through multidimensional, complex, and interdisciplinary lenses. Starlight for shifting relational dynamics in a time of darkness and crises to co-create mutual-flourishing pathways, nonviolence not only has an inherent capacity to treat the roots of violence but is also built on a deeply shared sense of interconnectedness that fosters individual and communal integration.'Nonviolence or nonexistence'is an urgent call. This book (with writings that span a decade) conceptualizes nonviolence education through multilayered, evolving, and cross-disciplinary perspectives, centering on nonviolent relationality that engages with differences within the self and with the other (including the non-human other) to bridge inner work and outer work, transcend dualism and divisions, and transform pedagogy and curriculum dynamics. Drawing upon international and indigenous wisdom, Gandhi-King philosophies of nonviolent social change, theories of the human psyche and currere, post-structural theories, and feminism, this book explicates nonviolence as curriculum and educational renewal in an ongoing process, infused by attuned, improvised, creative, and integrative energy that holds tensions, cultivates compassion, and inspires awakenings. Scholars, students, and practitioners in the fields of curriculum studies, nonviolence studies, peace education, teaching and learning, educational foundations, philosophy of education, international education, East/West inquiry, and community based education will welcome this book.

- Abstract
We believe the world needs more care. This volume seeks to describe theoretical, empirical, and phenomenological evidence toward creating a higher education environment that values excellence in its teaching, research, and service while at the same time ensuring that those involved in these endeavors are cared for. The primary purpose is to provide a state-of-the-art synthesis of the delicate balance between striving for excellence in higher education while at the same time exhibiting an ethic of care for all stakeholders involved. The second purpose is to honor the work and legacy of Jeffrey W. Cornett who embodied this balance during his long and successful career in higher education. Upon Dr. Cornett's retirement, it is fitting to visit balance between care and excellence as multiple tensions push and pull on higher education – from innovative ideas, changing funding structures, and the corporatization of higher education. This volume will serve to inform all those invested in faculty development, student learning and administration in higher education from educational researchers, practitioners, and policymakers – with the most up-to-date understandings of how we can simultaneously strive for excellence in higher education and simultaneously ensure that those around us in this shared space are cared for. Contributors are: Carolyne Ali-Khan, Richard Chant, Jeffrey W. Cornett, Daniel L. Dinsmore, Jerry Johnson, Dilek Kayaalp, Wanda Lastrapes, Madalina Tanase, Hope (Bess) E. Wilson and Brian Zoellner.

Sina Vogel and Sina Vogel
- Abstract

- Abstract
Centered around the idea that literacy teaching is more than the transmission of strategies and skills, this volume serves as a foundation for approaching literacy from an identity perspective. Through incisive and accessible chapters from top scholars, it introduces readers to the concept of literate identities, examining them across ages and grade levels to present an overview of how scholars and educators can use this concept in their research and teaching. Organized by developmental level with sections on early childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, and cross-age research, contributors reveal how literacy can be framed as an identity practice to engage students and support their development. Applying a range of theoretical perspectives and frameworks, each chapter identifies the identity theory used, explains the relevant methodology and research questions, covers implications for practice, and includes questions or prompts for discussion. The volume reveals how understanding literate identities is at the heart of effective and inclusive literacy instruction by addressing key topics, including culturally relevant pedagogy, intersectionality, and transnationalism, among others. Illuminating multiple pathways to understanding students as readers and writers, this book is essential for teachers, scholars, and researchers in literacy education, research methods, and multicultural education.

- Abstract
We are sport psychologists, sport parents and retired athletes. We have experienced the ups and the downs, the cheers of excitement and the tears of disappointment that youth sport brings. Being a sport parent is a challenging job, and how we respond to our child's sporting experiences has a huge influence on how they interpret them. We want them to enjoy sport, to develop life skills, and reach their potential, but it can be hard to know what to say or do at times. We wrote this book because we felt there was a lack of support for sport parents. We have heard so many stories of how parents have been criticised, judged, or ignored as they have tried to do their best to help their child's dreams come true. This is not a “how to be the best sport parent” manual – sport parenting is not a competition, although some parents have turned it into a competitive sport! You are already a brilliant sport parent – your child would not be achieving the sporting enjoyment and success they are if it wasn't for your commitment, passion, and belief. We bring together personal stories from youth sport with scientific research and professional experiences to develop your sport parenting skills. Suggesting strategies that can boost athletic performance, enhance wellbeing, and strengthen family relationships. Perhaps one day parents will be awarded medals for their children's performances, but for now we in the sport parent community salute the team behind the team!

- Abstract
This book centers directly impacted Black children who have lived through parental incarceration. Their stories are told from holistic perspectives incorporating the full range of collateral consequences. Shifting from the Eurocentric and capitalistic viewpoint, they move us beyond negative outcomes to a positive prism by providing insider perspective, strategy, advice, and compelling experiences. We center Black children of incarcerated parents'(BCOIP's) rich narratives to show how they are conscious thinkers with perspectives that can help reimagine all Black children's lives and futures. These stories help readers better understand the importance of exploring the revolutionary ways BCOIP continue to survive, thrive, and transform amid the dynamic challenges surrounding mass incarceration. The book shifts the social dialogue from fear of intergenerational crime and incarceration to resilience, success, Black joy, and self-love, and moves from sympathetic into an empathetic agenda. The book brings to the forefront counter-storytelling through oral narratives that fill a gap in literature that leaves out the voices of children of incarcerated parents who are doctors, lawyers, professional athletes, musicians, community leaders, activists, professors, teachers, bestselling authors, and much more. These are vital experiences to share because not all BCOIP will end up in prison, jail, or a detention center.Black Children of Incarcerated Parents Speak Truth to Power will be of great interest to scholars from the humanistic social sciences and humanities. It is also a timely resource for students (high school, undergraduate, and graduate) in sociology, criminology, corrections, humanities, social work, counseling, education, social justice, and related courses, as well as agency administrators, community organizations servicing families of the incarcerated, specifically incarcerated parents and the children of incarcerated parents, themselves.
