This handbook provides a global synthesis of on-going research in education and policy change during the last decade. It examines discourses of globalisation from the perspectives of the global North and global South. Major theories of globalisation and education policy reforms employed in the handbook are classified into two broad categories: structuralist and post-structuralist. The handbook, while examining the impact of global trends in different societies, cultures and educational settings, attempts to synthesise different meta theories of globalisation and their impact on societies and educational systems. It discusses the continued interaction of global, national and local forces and influences, especially the importance of standards and quality driven education reforms, the need to overcome inequality of access to quality schools, and aims at providing quality education for all students. In addition, the impact of neo-liberal ideology on education is examined, in terms of its impact on ongoing standards-driven education reforms globally. The handbook analyses neo-liberalism in education and its focus on increasing global competitiveness, accountability, efficiency, quality, standards-driven policy reforms and educational stratification. The impact of globalisation on education policy and reforms is a strategically significant issue for us all. The unifying conceptual framework, used in the handbook to critique strategic significance of globalisation, is grounded in discourse, CDA and critical theory. The work offers the latest findings concerning major issues in education and policy directions, such as global social and economic inequality, neo-liberal standard-driven education and policy reforms, performing schools in the performing culture, education for human rights and social justice, new perspectives on education for sustainability, dominant and effective models of values education in schools, and the ubiquitous impact of ICTs on education systems.

This handbook provides a frame of reference for the global challenges facing higher education leadership today. Focusing on recommendations and directions for the future rather than simply a recap of measures taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, the contributors also delve into contexts such as the climate crisis, issues of diversity, equity and inclusion, digitalisation, funding and marketisation, the war in Ukraine and China-Taiwan and Hong Kong tensions. This book describes and analyses experiences of teaching and learning language, culture and literature based on telecollaboration, an approach that creates interactions between groups of learners from different countries through the integration of a series of virtual and intercultural collaborative tasks to the curricula of undergraduate and graduate courses. The experiences analyzed in this volume come from two telecollaborative projects developed by the São Paulo State University (UNESP), in Brazil, with universities from other countries: the Brazilian Virtual Exchange (BRaVE) Program and the Teletandem Brasil Project. The BRaVE Program aims at fostering an online collaborative learning modality that promotes intercultural contact and the exchange of ideas by connecting Brazilian undergraduate or graduate students with students from different higher education institutions around the world. The Teletandem Brasil Project is based on a mode of telecollaboration (teletandem)that creates a virtual, collaborative and autonomous context for learning foreign languages in which two students help each other to learn their own languages or a language of proficiency. They do so by using the text, voice and webcam image resources, and by adopting the three principles of tandem learning: autonomy, reciprocity, and separate use of both languages. Language, Culture and Literature in Telecollaboration Contexts will be of interest to both educational researchers and teachers as it presents, on the one hand, an innovative tool to promote the democratization of foreign language learning; and, on the other hand, discusses how telecollaborative projects can contribute to the training of language and literature teachers.

Deryn Watson and Jane Andersen Editors INTRODUCTION The role of a Preface is to introduce the nature of the publication. The book that emerges from an IFIP Technical Committee World Conference on Computers in Education is complex, and this complexity lies in the nature of the event from which it emerges. Unlike a number of other major international conferences, those organised within the IFIP education community are active events. A WCCE is unique among major international conferences for the structure that deliberately ensures that all attendees are active participants in the development of the debate. In addition to the major paper presentations and discussion, from international authors, there are panel sessions and professional working groups who debate particular themes throughout the event. There is no doubt that this was not a dry academic conference - teachers, lecturers and experts, policy makers and researchers, leamers and manufacturers mingled and worked together to explore, reflect, discuss and plan for the future. The added value of this event was that we know that it will have an impact on future practice; networks will be formed, both virtual and real -ideas will change and new ones will emerge. Capturing the essence of this event is a challenge - this post-conference book has three parts. The first is the substantial number of theme papers.

Education and Technology for a Better World was the main theme for WCCE 2009. The conference highlights and explores different perspectives of this theme, covering all levels of formal education as well as informal learning and societal aspects of education. The conference was open to everyone involved in education and training. Additionally players from technological, societal, business and political fields outside education were invited to make relevant contributions within the theme: Education and Technology for a Better World. For several years the WCCE (World Conference on Computers in Education) has brought benefits to the fields of computer science and computers and education as well as to their communities. The contributions at WCCE include research projects and good practice presented in different formats from full papers to posters, demonstrations, panels, workshops and symposiums. The focus is not only on presentations of accepted contributions but also on discussions and input from all participants. The main goal of these conferences is to provide a forum for the discussion of ideas in all areas of computer science and human learning. They create a unique environment in which researchers and practitioners in the fields of computer science and human learning can interact, exchanging theories, experiments, techniques, applications and evaluations of initiatives supporting new developments that are potentially relevant for the development of these fields. They intend to serve as reference guidelines for the research community.
