This book presents a tool to determine e-learning readiness in workplace organizations. It offers a case study of the design and development process and outlines factors to be taken into account to determine e-learning readiness. It details the four objectives of this tool: to highlight specific parameters for determining e-learning readiness, to provide a systematic process to determine the readiness of an organization, to enable flexibility for the environmental context, and to capture the interrelatedness of the many areas in the organization. Next, it discusses the main element of the tool: surveys that are used to facilitate collection of data on organizational, learner and technology readiness. The book concludes with a look at practical ways of using the information gathered from the data produced.

This book explains the concept of education divide in rural India and identifies various factors that shape and sustain such a divide. In doing so, it also discusses a range of attempts undertaken to bridge the education divide. Subsequently, the book has attempted in providing a socio-technical framework towards optimally deploying social technologies for addressing the issue of education divide of marginalized communities. The proposed framework offers a transition from traditional content-centric, teacher-centric and centralized education ecosystem to a connection-centric, learner-centric and decentralized education ecosystem of the socio-digital age. It demonstrates how Internet-enabled digital platforms, based on the principles of sharism and mass collaboration using social technologies, could help to solve one of the greatest problems facing the world: mitigating the extant education divide by delivering quality education to underprivileged sections of society. The bookalso presents empirical validation of the proposed framework to show how a community-driven blended learning platform can mobilize the dormant knowledge capital of domain experts to teach underprivileged rural Indian children, as well as help form communities of practice to enable lifelong learning for the rural adult population. The book closes by pointing out the challenges involved in building an equitable education ecosystem using social technologies and ultimately the possibility of creating a fair and equitable society. This edited volume presents a systematic analysis of conceptual, methodological and applied aspects related to the validation of educational tests used in Latin American countries. Inspired by international standards on educational measurement and evaluation, this book illustrates efforts that have been made in several countries to validate different types of educational assessments, including student learning assessments, measurements of non-cognitive aspects in students, teacher evaluations, and tests for certification and selection. It gathers the experience of validity studies from the main international assessments in Latin America (PISA, TIMSS, ERCE, and ICCS). Additionally, it shows the challenges that must be taken into account when evaluations are used to compare countries, groups or trends of achievement over time. The book builds on the premise that measurements in the educational field should not be used if there are no studies that support the validity of the interpretation of their scores, or the use made of such tests. It shows that, despite the recognition given to validity, relatively few educational measurement assessments have accumulated enough evidence to support their interpretation and use. In doing so, this volume increases awareness about the relevance of validity, especially when assessments are key component of educational policies.

This open access book engages with the response-ability of science education to Indigenous ways-of-living-with-Nature. Higgins deconstructs the ways in which the structures of science education—its concepts, categories, policies, and practices—contribute to the exclusion (or problematic inclusion) of Indigenous science while also shaping its ability respond. Herein, he undertakes an unsettling homework to address the ways in which settler colonial logics linger and lurk within sedimented and stratified knowledge-practices, turning the gaze back onto science education. This homework critically inhabits culture, theory, ontology, and history as they relate to the multicultural science education debate, a central curricular location that acts as both a potential entry point and problematic gatekeeping device, in order to (re)open the space of responsiveness towards Indigenous ways-of-knowing-in-being.

Die experimentelle Planungskompetenz stellt insbesondere im Lichte des Kompetenzbereichs Erkenntnisgewinnung der Nationalen Bildungsstandards eine wichtige Kernkompetenz künftiger Chemie-Lehrkräfte in Deutschland dar. Unter dem Konstrukt können diejenigen Kompetenzen von Lehrkräften verstanden werden, welche für eine lernwirksame Gestaltung von Experimentierprozessen nötig sind. Dabei stellen die ziel- und kompetenzorientierte Öffnung des Experimentierprozesses, die Verwendung adäquater Unterstützungsmaßnahmen, die Berücksichtigung von Lernvoraussetzungen der Schülerinnen und Schüler sowie die Passung zwischen den verschiedenen Planungsentscheidungen wichtige Planungskriterien dar. Zur Förderung der experimentellen Planungskompetenz wurde im Rahmen der vorliegenden Arbeit ein Seminarkonzept entwickelt, in dem insgesamt 48 Studierende selbst Experimentierprozesse planten, evaluierten und reflektierten. Um die Lernwirksamkeit zu überprüfen, wurde in einem Pre-Post-Follow-Up-Design u. a. die experimentelle Planungskompetenz mit Hilfe eines Performanztests erhoben. Die daraus resultierenden schriftlichen Planungen wurden mit Hilfe eines selbst entwickelten Kodiermanuals analysiert und hinsichtlich ihrer Qualität bewertet. Auf die gleiche Weise wurden die im Verlauf des Seminars entstandenen Experimentierprozesse ausgewertet. Es zeigen sich signifikante Zuwächse in der experimentellen Planungskompetenz.

Der vorliegende Sammelband ist das erste und einzige Handbuch zum Situationsansatz, welches das von Prof. Jürgen Zimmer und anderen entwickelte universale Bildungskonzept umfassend darstellt und Weiterentwicklungen auch in anderen Fachbereichen beschreibt. Ansätze und Möglichkeiten der Ungleichheitsreduzierung werden auf Grundlage des Sozioanalysekonzeptes von Pierre Bourdieu diskutiert. Die Autorin liefert wichtige Hinweise hinsichtlich der Veränderbarkeit der qua soziale Herkunft erworbenen Handlungsdispositionen und somit zur Professionalisierung des Lehrer•innenhandelns.

Kommunikation mit Eltern gilt als herausfordernder Teil der Arbeit frühpädagogischer Fachkräfte – gestiegene Anforderungen an das elementarpädagogische Berufsfeld spiegeln sich in diesem Arbeitsbereich wider. Allerdings sind angenommene positive Wirkungen der Zusammenarbeit zwischen elementarpädagogischen Fachkräften und Eltern auf die kindliche Entwicklung theoretisch und empirisch dünn untermauert. Außerdem ist wenig empirisches Wissen darüber vorhanden, wie Kommunikation (als Grundlage für Zusammenarbeit) in der Praxis beschaffen ist, sowie darüber, welche Aspekte Fachkräfte und Eltern für wichtig halten – insbesondere in Österreich. Vor diesem Hintergrund beleuchtet die Autorin in der vorliegenden Arbeit zum einen die theoretische Bedeutung von Kommunikation zwischen frühpädagogischen Fachkräften und Eltern. Zum anderen untersuchte sie mittels Fragebogen in Tirol (Österreich), in welchen Formen die Eltern-Fachkraft-Kommunikation in Kindergärten wie häufig stattfindet, um welcheInhalte es wie häufig geht, wie relevant die Beteiligten verschiedene Kommunikationsformen und -inhalte finden und welche Merkmale Einfluss darauf haben, welche Inhalte sie als häufig und relevant einschätzen. Die Autorin diskutiert die Ergebnisse im theoretischen Kontext und hinsichtlich ihrer Implikationen für elementarpädagogische Aus- und Weiterbildungen.

This book presents research and developments in the virtual, augmented technology and mixed-reality used in language learning and teaching. It provides the readers with a comprehensive overview of contextual language learning with the support of immersive technology. From theoretical foundations, methodological issues, the features of virtual and augmented reality, and educational practices of language learning, to the future of immersive technology for and research on language learning. During the past two decades, abundant research on different realities has recognized the potential of language learning in virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality environments (Wang et al., 2020; Lin & Lan, 2015). Given insufficient studies of Chinese learning in immersive contexts reported in existing literature, this book includes several excellent studies about using immersive technologies for Chinese learning in addition to other foreign langue learning, such as English as a foreign language (EFL). Since learning Chinese has grown significantly as a global trend, the authors vitally consolidate and synthesize various theoretical foundations, visions, and recent research and practices in the context of Chinese teaching from broader and more diverse perspectives. On the other hand, the chapters about EFL learning also shed light on the research on contextual language learning. This book explores disciplinary teaching excellence through a diverse range of student-staff partnership research projects. Despite being a highly contested term, ‘teaching excellence'is something that universities aspire to and are expected to have. However, the editors and contributors argue that not only are definitions of excellence often broad and generic, but they lack nuanced understandings of disciplinary excellence in higher education. This edited volume explores how Chinese school-based educators learn from others and attain awareness in dialogue with the world in an era of increasing globalization and information exchange. Minzhu Primary School in Shanghai, China, and Bay Street School in Toronto, Canada, have been connected as sister schools of cross-cultural exchange since 2008. Together, they have explored ways to reciprocally learn in a cross-cultural partnership while remaining grounded in their home culture and language. Deborah Luise Lutz explores support work relationships, the relationships between people with intellectual disabilities in receipt of a personal budget and their support workers.
