Inaccessible Access ethnographically addresses barriers to inclusion within knowledge-making. This book presents the life stories and lived experiences of 12 individuals who transitioned from the sixth form of a further education college in a traditionally working-class area of the UK, to higher education. The author employs narrative inquiry in order to explore the participants'unique perspectives. Theoretically, Bourdieu's concepts of field and habitus are used to explain how these undergraduates adapted to their new circumstances, which in turn altered their ways of thinking and behaving. The book examines the impact of class on student transition, as well as offering insights into why further education warrants renewed focus, and concludes with a set of recommendations for both policy and practice.

The present work investigates professional self-concept domains of pre-service teachers of the teaching degree programs'Teaching at Elementary Schools'and'Special Education'in two different studies. The first study investigates whether and to what extent pre-service teachers'professional self-concepts - with regard to planning and implementing inclusive education and cooperation with colleagues - can be fostered by a university-based learning unit on teacher cooperation in the inclusive classroom. In the second study, differences in the development of pre-service teachers'self-concepts are examined in relation to their type of tandem compositions (freely selected tandems vs. randomly assembled tandems) for the planning and implementation of inclusive lessons in elementary schools.

This book positions the concept of Storying as integral to leadership in qualitative research, drawing on a wide range of studies and perspectives by diverse, minoritized leaders.Presenting stories of leadership, resistance, diversity, and cultural wealth, these chapters highlight “problems of practice” from Latinx, Black, and BIPOC administrators, special education teachers, EOP community college students, and parents, including those undocumented. This book addresses the social benefits of physical activity and sport in promoting the social and educational inclusion of refugees living in Europe in line with Sustainable Development Goals 4, 10 and 16. It provides a theoretical framework supported by evidence obtained from a case study in the Spanish context. The book demonstrates how universities and formal and non-formal educational institutions, by means of service-learning activities managed by physical and social educators, enable refugees and students to practice physical activity, develop further learning and establish stable social networks. It shows how a pedagogical approach to physical activity can improve relationships between students and refugees and promote inclusion of all. This volume provides a broad outlook on migrant youth and schooling in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland and the United Kingdom. One of the challenges that educational systems are facing worldwide is enabling the voices of children from silenced, marginalized, and excluded groups to be heard in communities of philosophical inquiry. Children from unprivileged socioeconomic sectors or minorities, and whose narrative is not in accord with that of the dominant mainstream narrative, often feel uncomfortable expressing their feelings, experiences, and mostly their authentic philosophical questions during communities of philosophical inquiry. They prefer not to raise the questions from their identity perspective. Even if they are friendly, such communities of inquiry are governed—even if implicitly—by the hegemonic meta-narrative. This book addresses the challenges of authentic inclusion of these children and their identities/narratives. Arie Kizel analyzes both how discourse about multiple identities and narratives can enrich the theoretical foundations of philosophy for/with children, as opposed to the sterile banking and normalizing education, and the challenge of various identities and their uniqueness within childhood in order to offer theoretical and pedagogical-educational solutions within philosophy for and with children.
