This book of Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems contains accepted papers presented at the 15th International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Security for Information Systems (CISIS 2022) and the 13th International Conference on EUropean Transnational Education (ICEUTE 2022). These conferences were held in the beautiful city of Salamanca, Spain, in September 2022. The aim of the CISIS 2022 conference is to offer a meeting opportunity for academic and industry-related researchers belonging to the various, vast communities of computational intelligence, information security, and data mining. The need for intelligent, flexible behaviour by large, complex systems, especially in mission-critical domains, is intended to be the catalyst and the aggregation stimulus for the overall event. After a thorough peer review process, the CISIS 2022 International Program Committee selected 20 papers, which are published in this conference proceedings. In this edition, three special sessions were organized: Cybersecurity in Future Connected Societies, Cybersecurity and Trusted Supply Chains of ICT, and Intelligent Solutions for Cybersecurity Systems. The aim of ICEUTE 2022 is to offer a meeting point for people working on transnational education within Europe. The conference theme of ICBL 2021 is Blended Learning: Re-thinking and Re-defining the Learning Process. The main theme of the proceedings of the 4th International Conference on Teacher Education and Professional Development (InCoTEPD 2019) is ‘'Teacher Education and Professional Development in Industry 4.0'. The papers have been carefully grouped under the subthemes of teacher education and professional development, curriculum, learning materials, teaching-learning process, technology and media, and assessment in Industry 4.0 education. The chapters in this book build upon selected research papers from the 12th International Networked Learning Conference 2020, hosted by University of Southern Denmark, Kolding. The selected chapters were chosen as cutting-edge research on networked learning which reflected focal discussion points during the conference such as: new demands on teachers in online and hybrid learning environments; organization of professional learning to meet and reflect on these demands; support of educators and students'digital literacy; the interaction of human and technological agents in networked learning; and the development of new of networked learning designs to critically and creatively make use of technological possibilities. This volume takes a comprehensive and broad look at e-text programs across a wide spectrum of programs, institutions, and policies in three parts. The first part showcases several policy papers to contextualize the discussion and highlight the reasons for IAE programs'structure and the obstacles they face for implementation. The second part is an in-depth exploration of various case studies that provide a detailed description of IAE programs, including information about program elements, program structure, program size, and insights into how programs are operationalized, and their shortcomings and benefits to students and stakeholders. There are approximately 300 institutions of higher education that currently have some form of Inclusive Access orOpen Educational Resources E-text (IAE) program in the United States, but there is little scholarship that engages on the topic of assessing these programs'effect on student success. The results of the research studies included in this volume will inform faculty, administrators, and policy-makers who seek to support the development, adoption, and implementation of IAE programs based on their potential positive effects on student success and other outcomes.

Originally published in 1994, International Developments in Assuring Quality in Higher Education describes a range of national and international developments which evaluate the quality of education provided by public and private tertiary institutions. The book is based on papers from a conference organized by the International Network of Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education, and held in Montreal in 1993. Regional perspectives from Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America, North America and Western Europe are followed by an account of national quality assurance agencies in Chile, Denmark, Korea, New Zealand, South Africa, Quebec, Romania, Scotland and the USA. There are also chapters on the work of UNESCO and the World Bank in promoting quality in higher education in industrialising nations. Together these papers supplement the account of international initiatives.

Since the founding of Project Head Start in 1965, there has been intense public as well as academic debate about the effectiveness of early intervention programs in producing lasting gains in children's intellectual development. In the past few years, new evidence has accumulated at a rapid pace, and there are now over 100 major studies of longitudinal experiments and Head Start program evaluations. A series of longitudinal studies of early intervention experiments was begun in the 1960s. The children who participated in these programs are now past the third grade and old enough to give reliable responses to IQ and achievement tests. In addition, they have now been in school long enough to allow examination of their overall school performance. This volume includes reports which review both center and house-based early intervention programs. One of the papers presents preliminary findings from the Developmental Continuity Consortium which is pooling the data from 12 major longitudinal experiments. The authors cite evidence for late developing gains which seem permanent. These'sleeper effects'were not manifest in the scores of the same groups of children in the first few years of the postintervention period. In addition to IQ and achievement gains, there is also evidence for gains in emotional adjustment. Early intervention appears to have dramatic effects in the assignment of children to special education classes and on retention in grade, somehow enabling them to maintain their position in the classroom. In all, the papers describe 96 major studies which report positive impacts from early intervention programs.

This title was first published in 2000: Why do mature women return to education? On the face of it, the answer would seem obvious - to gain qualifications which they had not acquired in their earlier learning. However their return to learning seems to be much more than just about paper qualifications. This book describes the experiences of a number of mature women students who return to learning some time after their compulsory schooling. It looks at the links which the women make between their life stories and their return to education. In particular, it focuses upon a number of women who talk of painful experiences either past or current in their lives - experiences such as manipulative and controlling parents, psychological, physical and sexual abuse, an alcoholic parent, the death of a child or other family members and other difficult life events. These experiences have had a considerable and often ongoing effect on the women's lives and their return to education seems to be much more than just about paper qualifications. For example, the women talked of confidence, status, proving ability, self respect and independence and what emerged very clearly from their stories was the desire to have some power and control over the way in which their identity was defined. The book breaks new ground in that it makes clear links between the women's return to education, their past, often very painful experiences and identity. Sometimes the women make very clear connections, but at other times the connections are less explicit, though nevertheless powerful. This is an new area which will contribute to the growing literature on women returners. It will be of interest to lecturers and researchers in many disciplines and will raise awareness of some of the unexpressed reasons for women returning to education.

This book is Volume 2 of the proceedings of 2023 Sustainable Education and Development Research Conference. This volume concentrates on papers in the area of green buildings. Despite considerable progress, more than 700 million people worldwide still lack access to electricity, and around 2.4 billion people continue to use harmful and polluting fuels for cooking. While efforts have been made to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency, they have not been fast enough to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7. Adding to the challenge, the ongoing war in Ukraine has contributed to rising global energy prices and heightened energy insecurity in Europe. In response to the energy crisis, some European countries are planning to accelerate the transition to renewables and increase investments in clean energy and energy efficiency. However, others are considering a resurgence of coal, which poses a risk to the overall green transition. Between 2010 and 2020, the percentage of the global population with access to electricity increased from 83% to 91%, with 1.3 billion people gaining access. Nevertheless, this leaves approximately 733 million people still without electricity, and most of them reside in sub-Saharan Africa. Achieving universal access by 2030, the annual growth rate in access needs to accelerate from 0.5 percentage points to 0.9 percentage points, necessitating significant efforts in low-income, fragile, and conflict-affected countries. In 2020, 69% of the global population had access to clean cooking fuels and technologies. While more than half of those without access to clean cooking fuels live in Asia, the 20 countries with the lowest percentage of people having access to clean cooking were predominantly least developed countries in Africa. The share of renewable sources in total final energy consumption reached 17.7% globally in 2019, just slightly higher than the figure for 2015. The electricity sector leads in the adoption of renewables, accounting for 26.2% of total final energy consumption in 2019, while the heat and transport sectors have made limited progress. Global primary energy intensity, defined as global total energy supply per unit of GDP, improved from 5.6 megajoules per dollar (2017 purchasing power parity) in 2010 to 4.7 megajoules in 2019. However, the rate of improvement (1.6% per year on average since 2015) falls short of the 3.2% annual rate needed to reach Sustainable Development Goal 7.3. International financial flows to support clean and renewable energy in developing countries reached $10.9 billion in 2019, a 23.6% decrease from 2018. This decline occurred even before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over a longer five-year moving average, average annual commitments decreased for the first time since 2008, from $17.5 billion in 2014-18 to $16.6 billion in 2015-19. Many countries have legislation on national security, including economic security, energy security, social security, and political security, which are commonly regarded as “national security law” (NSL). With particular reference to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong National Security Law is something new to the Special Administrative Region of China. To help young people understand the Hong Kong National Security Law, it is explicitly stated in the Hong Kong National Security Law that education institutions, including universities, have the responsibility to implement education programs on the Hong Kong National Security Law. At the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, we have developed four NSL programs. First, we have designed a face-to-face program on law abidance leadership for 4-year undergraduate students. Second, we have designed an online program on law abidance leadership. Third and last, for postgraduate students, an online course plus self-study is required, and the same for research postgraduate students. In the past two years, we have already demonstrated the impact of the program for the 4-year students via objective outcome evaluation, subjective outcome evaluation, and qualitative evaluation. Besides the 4-year undergraduate program, there is a need to understand the impact of NSL education programs for the Senior-Year program, taught postgraduate programs, and research postgraduate programs. In this book, we collected several papers adopting different evaluation strategies to examine the impacts of NSL education programs in Hong Kong.
