When the 1st German Inverted Classroom Conference was staged in 2012, the organizers thought that it may have been the first and last conference of this kind: Too few teachers seemed to be familiar with this model in the first place and only a tiny fragment of them would actually apply this model to their own teaching scenarios. However, in the 2013 conference, we were overwhelmed with a large number of teachers who not only wanted to find out about this teaching and learning concept but had already used it. Consequently, the focus of the 2nd German Inverted Classroom Conference to which this conference volume is dedicated was no longer the “installation” of the Inverted Classroom Model (ICM) but fine adjustments in the actual application of it. This is reflected in the contributions to this volume. Even though all three central aspects of the ICM are addressed, (1) content production and delivery, (2) testing, and (3) the in-class phase, there has been a shift away from mere content production towards an expansion of the model as well as a move towards fine adjustments of the three components.

Information and Communication Technologies in Real-Life Learning presents the results of an International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) working conference held December 2004 in Melbourne, Australia. The working conference was organized by IFIP Working Group 3.2 (Informatics and ICT in Higher Education) and IFIP Working Group 3.4 (Professional and Vocational Education in Information Technology). The papers in this book present a cross-section of issues in real-life learning in which Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays an important role. Some of the issues covered include: education models for real-life learning enabled by ICT; effective organization of a real-life learning environment; the changing role of the student; the changing role of educational institutions and their relationship with business and industry; the changing role of teachers and their use of ICT; and managment of ICT-rich education change.

This book considers the cognitive nature of courses connected with ICT or using ICT as an integral part of the course, including some views on the associated learning and teaching styles. Which factors lead to learning outcomes and are these intended or fortuitous? Factors may include ones specific to particular subject areas and their relationship with ICT, motivation associated with ICT usage, the interest which teachers, pupils and students who enjoy using ICT bring to the learning context. Recent developments in the use of ICT, particularly in an educational context where us of ICT has become one of the learning strategies in the portfolio of options teachers possess, have meant that the pedagogic usage has become more important generally. The focus of this book is on the curricular use of ICT and so course evaluation and design are the main contents of each chapter. In this sense the curriculum becomes the cognitive site of learning. Most other books look at specific pedagogic uses rather than the debate between subject and skill learning. Also, a government research paper indicates that thinking skills may well become the new focus for the next phase of development.

This volume presents a mix of translations of classical and modern papers from the German Didaktik tradition, newly prepared essays by German scholars and practitioners writing from within the tradition, and interpretive essays by U.S. scholars. It brings this tradition, which virtually dominated German curricular thought and teacher education until the 1960s when American curriculum theory entered Germany--and which is now experiencing a renaissance--to the English-speaking world, where it has been essentially unknown. The intent is to capture in one volume the core (at least) of the tradition of Didaktik and to communicate its potential relevance to English-language curricularists and teacher educators. It introduces a theoretical tradition which, although very different in almost every respect from those we know, offers a set of approaches that suggest ways of thinking about problems of reflection on curricular and teaching praxis (the core focus of the tradition) which the editors believe are accessible to North American readers--with appropriate'translation.'These ways of thinking and related praxis are very relevant to notions such as reflective teaching and the discourse on teachers as professionals. By raising the possibility that the'new'tradition of Didaktik can be highly suggestive for thinking through issues related to a number of central ideas within contemporary discourse--and for exploring the implications of these ideas for both teacher education and for a curriculum theory appropriate to these new contexts for theorizing, this book opens up a gold mine of theoretical and practical possibilities.

This volume demonstrates the instrumental use of Currere as a methodology to bring about Deracialisation through transformational learning by a white educator in Post-Apartheid South Africa.Offering an honest and vulnerable recognition of privilege and exclusivity, it disrupts deep-seated racial bias and assumptions, unveils racial blind spots, and confronts the discourse that South African'white'educators are, overtly or covertly, perpetuating systemic racism within schools. Based on autoethnographic analyses of the author's lived educational experiences within the Apartheid regime, it uses the theoretical concepts of Currere to initiate her journey towards Deracialisation and transform her current pedagogical practice. Curriculum development occupied an increasingly important place on the educational scene in the mid 1960s, foreshadowing much of the national debate initiated by the Prime Minister of Britain in late 1976. The agencies for development take different forms in different countries, but the underlying issues are remarkably similar across the globe. It is the basic framework common to all planned curriculum change which The Politics of Curriculum Change (originally published in 1978) is concerned to bring into sharper focus.A major consideration in embarking on or analysing any curriculum programme is the extent to which it reflects public concerns about education. The notion of the ‘public curriculum'is a central strand in the authors'argument. It leads naturally into a discussion of mechanisms for control and development, and the political acceptability of new proposals to teachers, parents, pupils, and the public at large. But curriculum change has its internal, as well as its external politics. These are reflected in the contrasting styles of development, varied forms of evaluation, and in the conflicting response of the profession, both to change of the curriculum as a whole, and to a piecemeal subject-by-subject approach.
