The European Summer School in Logic, Language and Information (ESSLLI) is organized every year by the Association for Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI) in different sites around Europe. The main focus of ESSLLI is on the interface between linguistics, logic and computation. ESSLLI offers foundational, introductory and advanced courses, as well as workshops, covering a wide variety of topics within the three areas of interest: Language and Computation, Language and Logic, and Logic and Computation. The 16 papers presented in this volume have been selected among 44 papers presented by talks or posters at the Student Sessions of the 24th and 25th editions of ESSLLI, held in 2012 in Opole, Poland, and 2013 in Düsseldorf, Germany. A unique and fun part of the symposium is the Graph Drawing Contest, which is part of the Graph Drawing Challenge. This year was the 18th edition. rd This book constitutes a collection of extended versions of papers presented at the 23 IFIP TC7 Conference on System Modeling and Optimization, which was held in C- cow, Poland, on July 23–27, 2007. It contains 7 plenary and 22 contributed articles, the latter selected via a peer reviewing process. Most of the papers are concerned with optimization and optimal control. Some of them deal with practical issues, e. g., p- formance-based design for seismic risk reduction, or evolutionary optimization in structural engineering. Many contributions concern optimization of infini- dimensional systems, ranging from a general overview of the variational analysis, through optimization and sensitivity analysis of PDE systems, to optimal control of neutral systems. A significant group of papers is devoted to shape analysis and opti- zation. Sufficient optimality conditions for ODE problems, and stochastic control methods applied to mathematical finance, are also investigated. The remaining papers are on mathematical programming, modeling, and information technology. The conference was the 23rd event in the series of such meetings biennially org- ized under the auspices of the Seventh Technical Committee “Systems Modeling and Optimization” of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP TC7).

The 33rd International Conference “Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science” (WG 2007) took place in the Conference Center in old castleinDornburgnearJena,Germany,June21–23,2007.Theapproximately80 participants came from various countries all over the world, among them Brazil, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, UK, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, and the USA. WG 2007 continued the series of 32 previous WG conferences. Since 1975, the WG conference has taken place 20 times in Germany, four times in The Netherlands, twice in Austria as well as once in Italy, Slovakia, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, France and in Norway. The WG conference traditionally aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in computer science, or by extracting new problems from applications. The goal is to present recent researchresults and to identify and exploredirections of future research. Thecontinuinginterestinthe WGconferenceswasre?ectedin thehighn- ber of submissions; 99 papers were submitted and in an evaluation process with four reports per submission, 30 papers were accepted by the Program Comm- tee for the conference. Due to the high number of submissions and the limited schedule of 3 days, various good papers could not be accepted. There were invited talks by Ming-Yang Kao (Evanston, Illinois) on algori- mic DNA assembly, and by Klaus Jansen (Kiel, Germany) on approximation algorithms for geometric intersection graphs.

This volume contains a selection of the papers presented at the Sixth Int- national Conference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT) which was organized in Brno, Czech Republic, from August 30 to September 1 of 2006. The PATAT conferences, which are held every 2 years, bring together - searchers and practitioners from across the broad spectrum of inter-disciplinary research activity in search methodologies for automated timetable generation. This includes university timetabling, school timetabling, personnel rostering, transportation timetabling, sports scheduling. The programme of the 2006 c- ference featured 70 presentations which represented the state of the art in au- mated timetabling: there were four plenary papers, 17 full papers, 41 extended abstracts, and eight system demonstrations. After the conference, all authors were invited to submit their papers to a second round of rigorous refereeing for this volume of selected revised papers. We are pleased to have accepted 25 - pers for this volume. This?gure represents the highest number of acceptances in a PATAT post-proceedings volume and is a testament to the high standards of the papers that were submitted. The organization of the book is structured around particular problem areas.

They explore the intersections and uncharted territories between machine learning, artificial intelligence, mathematical programming and algorithms for hard optimization problems.

Thisvolumecontainsaselectionofpapersfromthe4thInternationalConference on the Practice and Theory of Automated Timetabling (PATAT 2002) held in Gent, August 21–23, 2002. Since the?rst conference in Edinburgh in 1995, the range of timetabling applications at the conferences has become broader and more diverse. In the s- ected papers volume from the 1995 conference, there were just two contributions (out of 22) which did not speci?cally address school and university timetabling. In the selected papers volume from the 1997 conference in Toronto, the number of papers which tackled non-educational problems increased. Two of the papers addressed more than one timetabling application. In both of these papers, educational applications were considered in addition to other applications. A further three papers were concerned with non-educational applications. The conference steering and programme committees have worked hard to attract a wide range of timetabling applications. In the conference held in Konstanz in 2000, the diversi?cation of timetabling problems increased signi?cantly. Of the 21 selected papers in the postconference volume, just 13 were speci?cally concerned with educational timetabling. In the previous volumes, the papers had been sectioned according to solution technique. In the Konstanz volume the papers were classi?ed according to application domains. One section of the volume was entitled “Employee Timetabling,” while sports timetabling, air?eet scheduling, and general software architectures for timetabling were also represented. In the present volume, more than one-third of the 21 papers discuss problems in application areas other than academic and educational ones. Sports timetabling and hospital timetabling are particularly wellrepresented.

It contains 20 papers that cover all aspects of artificial intelligence in computer-game playing.

A large amount of the capacity of today's computers is used for computations that can be described as computations involving real numbers. In this book, the focus is on a problem arising particularly in real number computations: the problem of veri?edor reliablecomputations. Since real numbersare objects c- taining an in?nite amount of information, they cannot be represented precisely on a computer. This leads to the well-known problems caused by unveri?ed - plementations of real number algorithms using?nite precision. While this is t- ditionally seen to be a problem in numerical mathematics, there are also several scienti?c communities in computer science that are dealing with this problem. This book is a follow-up of the Dagstuhl Seminar 06021 on “Reliable Imp- mentation of Real Number Algorithms: Theory and Practice,” which took place January 8–13, 2006. It was intended to stimulate an exchange of ideas between the di?erent communities that deal with the problem of reliable implementation of real number algorithms either from a theoretical or from a practical point of view. Forty-eight researchers from many di?erent countries and many di?erent disciplines gathered in the castle of Dagstuhl to exchange views and ideas, in a relaxed atmosphere. The program consisted of 35 talks of 30 minutes each, and of three evening sessions with additional presentations and discussions. There were also lively discussions about di?erent theoretical models and practical - proaches for reliable real number computations.

The 28th International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer? Science (WG 2002) was held in Cesky ´ Krumlov, a beautiful small town in the southern part of the Czech Republic on the river Vltava (Moldau), June 13–15, 2002. The workshop was organized by the Department of Applied Mathematics of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague. Since 1975, WG has taken place in Germany 20 times, twice in Austria and The Netherlands, and once in Italy, Slovakia, and Switzerland. As in previous years, the workshop aimed at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in Computer Science, or by extracting new problems from applications.The workshop was devoted to the theoretical and practical aspects of graph concepts in computer science, and its contributed talks showed how recent research results from algorithmic graph theory can be used in computer science and which graph-theoretic questions arise from new developments in computer science. Altogether 61 research papers were submitted and reviewed by the program committee. The program committee represented the wide scienti?c spectrum, and in a careful reviewing process with four reports per submission it selected 36papersforpresentationattheworkshop.Thereferees'commentsaswellasthe numerous fruitful discussions during the workshop have been taken into account by the authors of these conference proceedings.

The 29th International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science(WG2003)washeldintheMennorodeconferenceCenterinElspeet,The Netherlands.TheworkshopwasorganizedbytheCenterforAlgorithmicSystems of the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences of Utrecht University. The goal is to present recent research results and to identify and explore - rections of future research. The papers cover a wide range of topics in natural computing including evolutionary computation, artificial neural networks, artificial life, swarm intelligence, artificial immune systems, self-organizing systems, emergent behavior, molecular computing, evolutionary robotics, evolvable hardware, parallel implementations and applications to real-world problems. The papers are organized in the following topical sections: numerical optimization; combinatorial optimization; genetic programming; multi-objective optimization; parallel and distributed frameworks; runtime analysis and approximation results; fitness landscape modeling and analysis; algorithm configuration, selection, and benchmarking; machine learning and evolutionary algorithms; and applications. Also included are the descriptions of 23 tutorials and 6 workshops which took place in the framework of PPSN XV.
