The LNCS Journal on Data Semantics is devoted to the presentation of notable work that, in one way or another, addresses research and development on issues related to data semantics. The journal addresses researchers and advanced practitioners working on the semantic web, interoperability, mobile information services, data warehousing, knowledge representation and reasoning, conceptual database modeling, ontologies, and artificial intelligence. This year's conference, the 11 International Conference on Data Wa- housing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2009), continued the tradition by d- seminating and discussing innovative models, methods, algorithms, and solutions to the challenges faced by data warehousing and knowledge discovery technologies.

Most of modern enterprises, institutions, and organizations rely on knowledge-based management systems. In these systems, knowledge is gained from data analysis. Today, knowledge-based management systems include data warehouses as their core components. For more than a decade, data warehousing together with knowledge discovery technology have made up the key technology for the decision-making process in companies. Since 1999, due to the relevant role of these technologies in academia and industry, the Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK) conference series has become an international forum for both practitioners and researchers to share their findings, publish their relevant results and debate in depth research issues and experiences on data warehousing and knowledge discovery systems and applications. th The 8 International Conference on Data Warehousing and Knowledge Discovery (DaWaK 2006) continued the series of successful conferences dedicated to these topics. In this edition, DaWaK aimed at providing the right and logical balance between data warehousing and knowledge discovery. In data warehousing the papers cover different research problems, such as advanced techniques in OLAP visuali- tion and multidimensional modelling, innovation of ETL processes and integration problems, materialized view optimization, very large data warehouse processing, data warehouses and data mining applications integration, data warehousing for real-life applications, e. g., medical applications and spatial applications. In data mining and knowledge discovery, papers are focused on a variety of topics from data streams analysis and mining, ontology-based mining techniques, mining frequent item sets, clustering, association and classification, patterns and so on. These proceedings contain the technical papers which were selected for presentation at the conference. We received 198 abstracts, and finally received 146 papers from 36 countries.

This volume contains the proceedings of the First International Conference on Advances in Information Systems (ADVIS) held in Izmir (Turkey), 25{27 October, 2000. This conference was dedicated to the memory of Professor Esen Ozkarahan. He was great researcher who made an essential contribution to the development of information systems. This conference was organized by the Computer - gineering Department of Dokuz Eylul University of Izmir. This department was established in 1994 by the founding chairman Professor Ozkarahan and there he worked for the last ve years of his live. The main goal of the conference was to bring together researchers from all around the world working in di erent areas of information systems to share new ideas and to represent their latest results. We received 80 submissions from 30 countries. The Program Committee selected 44 papers for presentation at the conference. The invited and accepted contributions cover a large variety of topics: - neral aspects of information systems, data bases, data warehousing, computer networks, Internet technologies, content-based image retrieval, information - trieval, constraint programming and arti cial intelligence. The success of the conference was dependent upon the hard work of a large number of people. We gratefully acknowledge the members of the Program C- mittee who helped to coordinate the process of refereeing all submitted papers. We also thank all the other specialists who reviewed the papers.
