The objective of this SpringerBrief is to present security architectures and incentive mechanisms to realize system availability for D2D communications. D2D communications enable devices to communicate directly, improving resource utilization, enhancing user's throughput, extending battery lifetime, etc. However, due to the open nature of D2D communications, there are two substantial technical challenges when applied to large-scale applications, that is, security and availability which is demonstrated in this book.This SpringerBrief proposes a secure data sharing protocol, which merges the advantages of public key cryptography and symmetric encryption, to achieve data security in D2D communications. Advances in social science research methodologies and data analytic methods are changing the way research in information systems is conducted. The five-volume set LNCS 7971-7975 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Computational Science and Its Applications, ICCSA 2013, held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in June 2013. Apart from the general track, ICCSA 2013 also include 33 special sessions and workshops, in various areas of computational sciences, ranging from computational science technologies, to specific areas of computational sciences, such as computer graphics and virtual reality. There are 46 papers from the general track, and 202 in special sessions and workshops.

As e-commerce becomes the norm of business transactions and information be­ comes an essential commodity, it is vital that extensive efforts be made to examine and rectify the problems with the underlying architectures, processes, methods, that are involved in providing and and tools, as well as organizational structures, utilizing services relating to information technology. Such a holistic view of the relevant structures is required in order to identify all of the key aspects that can affect network security. Unfortunately, today's systems and practices, although they have proved to be useful and become widespread, contain significant unnecessary complexity. This complexity provides many loopholes that make systems and practices vulnerable to malicious attacks by hackers as well as by individual and organized criminals. FUrther, there are enormous risks due to malfunction of the systems. The holes in the network system cannot simply be plugged up by the use of cryptography and firewalls. While many changes need to be made in operating systems and system software with respect to security, this alone does not solve the problem. The problems cannot be solved by addressing only a single key aspect of network security. A holistic approach is required. Sumit Ghosh has provided in this book such a holistic view of the area of network security. Thus, it is a most welcome contribution.

Comparative E-Government examines the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on governments throughout the world. It focuses on the adoption of e-government both by comparing different countries, and by focusing on individual countries and the success and challenges that they have faced. With 32 chapters from leading e-government scholars and practitioners from around the world, there is representation of developing and developed countries and their different stages of e-government adoption. Part I compares the adoption of e-government in two or more countries. The purpose of these chapters is to discern the development of e-government by comparing different counties and their individual experiences. Part II provides a more in-depth focus on case studies of e-government adoption in select countries. Part III, the last part of the book, examines emerging innovations and technologies in the adoption of e-government in different countries. Some of the emerging technologies are the new social media movement, the development of e-participation, interoperability, and geographic information systems (GIS).

These proceedings contain the papers of IFIP/SEC 2010. It was a special honour and privilege to chair the Program Committee and prepare the proceedings for this conf- ence, which is the 25th in a series of well-established international conferences on security and privacy organized annually by Technical Committee 11 (TC-11) of IFIP. Moreover, in 2010 it is part of the IFIP World Computer Congress 2010 celebrating both the Golden Jubilee of IFIP (founded in 1960) and the Silver Jubilee of the SEC conference in the exciting city of Brisbane, Australia, during September 20–23. The call for papers went out with the challenging motto of “Security & Privacy Silver Linings in the Cloud” building a bridge between the long standing issues of security and privacy and the most recent developments in information and commu- cation technology. It attracted 102 submissions. All of them were evaluated on the basis of their significance, novelty, and technical quality by at least five member of the Program Committee. The Program Committee meeting was held electronically over a period of a week. Of the papers submitted, 25 were selected for presentation at the conference; the acceptance rate was therefore as low as 24. 5% making SEC 2010 a highly competitive forum. One of those 25 submissions could unfortunately not be included in the proceedings, as none of its authors registered in time to present the paper at the conference.
