Enterprise ontology is one of the conceptual pillars of enterprise engineering, next to enterprise design and enterprise governance, together accomplishing the goals of intellectual manageability, organisational concinnity and social devotion. By revealing the essence of an enterprise's organisation, enterprise ontology addresses business processes, data and rules in a fundamental and truly integrated way. In addition, it provides deep insight into and broad overview over complex organisational transformations. The book is divided into three parts. Part I is an introduction in enterprise engineering and enterprise ontology. Part II explores the theories underlying enterprise ontology, explaining the foundations of each theory, the elaborations in practical methods and techniques, and the relationships with other comparable approaches. Part III presents the practical application of the theories. It includes a comprehensive summary of the DEMO methodology and the DEMO specification language, as well as exercises and applications of DEMO in various business areas. It also features a chapter on combining DEMO with comparable approaches to modelling business processes, data and rules, to the benefit of the latter. This second edition comprises two major improvements, driven by increased theoretical precision and further practical experience with DEMO. One is the clear separation between documents or data sets and the files that carry them, the other one is the re-positioning of the input data in the action rules. This book presents fundamental concepts and technologies to tackle interoperability between information systems. It details interoperability at the data, service, and process level, and combines theoretical foundations with hands-on presentation of technologies to enable the development of sound and practical integration. Chapter 1 details general interoperability challenges and describes the structure of the book. To start with, Chapter 2 presents technologies for the exchange of data between two selected and highly relevant data formats, i.e., relational databases and XML. Next, Chapter 3 explains concepts for schema matching and mapping and data integration as well as the technological basis for implementing them based on query and transformation languages like XPath and XSLT. Chapter 4 then turns to service interoperability and explains two related technologies – REST and GraphQL – in detail. In Chapter 5, fundamentals for designing process orchestrations at the conceptual level are presented, focusing on how to model process orchestrations and how to verify their correctness and soundness, and showing BPMN as the de facto modeling standard. Chapter 6 then details the concepts and languages for the implementation of process orchestrations, including the presentation of execution languages for process orchestrations that are equipped with a formal semantics, e.g., Workflow Nets, the Refined Process Structure Tree, and CPEE Trees. Subsequently, Chapter 7 focuses on the growing number of distributed, loosely coupled, and often non-interoperable applications through the concepts of enterprise application integration and explains these by an implementation in CPN Tools and by two case studies. Eventually, Chapter 8 is lifting the orchestration and integration concepts and technologies to the choreography level by dealing with the interoperability between different process orchestrations. Chapter 9 concludes the book by featuring success factors for interoperability projects. It also provides a range of open research directions for interoperability such as compliance, sensor fusion, and blockchain technologies. The book is mainly intended as a textbook to be used for developing and teaching courses on interoperability and integration. To this end, it is accompanied by a Web site with additional teaching materials. It also spans a bridge from researchers to graduate students and practitioners by providing a deep understanding on practical interoperability challenges and solutions. The focus here is put on de facto standards and open-source systems and tools to enable interoperability solutions at low cost.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the BPM Forum of the 18th International Conference on Business Process Management, BPM 2020, which was planned to take place in Seville, Spain, in September 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the conference took place virtually. The BPM Forum hosts innovative research which has a high potential of stimulating discussions. This book conceptualises and develops crowdsourcing as an organisational business process. It argues that although for many organisations crowdsourcing still implies an immature one-off endeavour, when developed to a more repeatable business process it can harness innovation and agility. Das Drittmittel-Volumen in Deutschland ist in der letzten Dekade enorm gestiegen. Dieser Anstieg verursacht hohe Administrations- und Dokumentationsaufwände, die mit dem bisherigen Verfahren zum Abhandeln von Drittmittel-Projekten nicht handhabbar sind. In der vorliegenden Dissertation werden daher sowohl organisatorische als auch technische Maßnahmen zum Senken dieser Aufwände beschrieben. Auf organisatorischer Ebene bringt diese Dissertation ein Referenzprozessmodell hervor, in welchem die Schwachstellen der Ist-Abläufe in Drittmittel-Projekten aufgelöst worden sind. Das erarbeitete Modell kann den Hochschulen somit eine Vorgabe zum Gestalten verbesserter Drittmittel-Projektabläufe liefern. Zum Unterstützen der Abläufe werden auf technischer Ebene zunächst die Potenziale von Dokumenten- und Workflow-Management-Systemen (DWMS) analysiert und anschließend die Verbreitung solcher Lösungen unter den Hochschulen empirisch untersucht. Da sich hierbei zeigte, dass eher wenig praktische Erfahrung bei hohem Einsatzpotenzial vorhanden ist, wird im nächsten Schritt ein DWMS-basierendes IT-System in einem Hochschul-Kontext implementiert und in zwei empirischen Studien evaluiert. Hieraus wird schließlich eine Design Theorie für Drittmittel-Management-Informationssysteme abgeleitet, die die Nutzeffekte eines solchen Systems aufzeigt und anderen Hochschulen einen Ansatz zum Aufbau einer eigenen Lösung bietet.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Workshop on Enterprise and Organizational Modeling and Simulation, EOMAS 2015, held at CAiSE 2015, in June 2015 in Stockholm, Sweden. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of ten international workshops held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in conjunction with the 12th International Conference on Business Process Management, BPM 2014, in September 2014.The ten workshops comprised Process-oriented Information Systems in Healthcare (ProHealth 2014), Security in Business Processes (SBP 2014), Process Model Collections: Management and Reuse (PMC-MR 2014), Business Processes in Collective Adaptive Systems (BPCAS 2014), Data- and Artifact-centric BPM (DAB 2014), Business Process Intelligence (BPI 2014), Business Process Management in the Cloud (BPMC 2014), Theory and Applications of Process Visualization (TaProViz 2014), Business Process Management and Social Software (BPMS2 2014) and Decision Mining and Modeling for Business Processes (DeMiMoP 2014). The 38 revised full and eight short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 84 submissions. In addition, six short papers resulting from the Doctoral Consortium at BPM 2014 are included in this book.

In 2007 INTEROP-VLab defined Enterprise Interoperability as “the ability of an enterprise system or application to interact with others at a low cost with a flexible approach”. Enterprise Interoperability VI brings together a peer reviewed selection of over 40 papers, ranging from academic research through case studies to industrial and administrative experience of interoperability. It shows how, in a scenario of globalised markets, the capacity to cooperate with other firms efficiently becomes essential in order to remain in the market in an economically, socially and environmentally cost-effective manner, and that the most innovative enterprises are beginning to redesign their business model to become interoperable. This goal of interoperability is vital, not only from the perspective of the individual enterprise but also in the new business structures that are now emerging, such as supply chains, virtual enterprises, interconnected organisations or extended enterprises, as well as in mergers and acquisitions. Establishing efficient and relevant collaborative situations requires managing interoperability from a dynamic perspective: a relevant and efficient collaboration of organizations might require adaptation to remain in line with potentially changing objectives, evolving resources, and unexpected events, for example. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 10th International Workshop on Enterprise and Organizational Modeling and Simulation, EOMAS 2014, held in conjunction with CAiSE 2014 in Thessaloniki, Greece, in June 2014. Tools and methods for modeling and simulation are widely used in enterprise engineering, organizational studies, and business process management. In monitoring and evaluating business processes and the interactions of actors in a realistic environment, modeling and simulation have proven to be both powerful, efficient, and economic, especially if complemented by animation and gaming elements. The increasing penetration of IT in organizations calls for an integrative perspective on enterprises and their supporting information systems. ​Business Process Management (BPM) has become a widely adopted management approach, prompting significant investments by private and public companies since 2000. Since neither the concept of BPM nor the factors leading to successful BPM initiatives are grounded in theory and also lack empirical support, Tahvo Hyötyläinen explores what business value BPM and BPM Systems can cause and how they can bring about improved firm performance. The author's main implication is to show how to enhance the probability of success with BPM and its Systems. His research also adds to the understanding on how to increase customer-centricity –an empirically supported yet less studied direction of BPM.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the Second Asia Pacific Conference on Business Process Management held in Brisbane, QLD, Australia, in July 2014.In all, 33 contributions from 12 countries were submitted. After each submission was reviewed by at least three Program Committee members, nine full papers were accepted for publication in this volume. These nine papers cover various topics that can be categorized under four main research focuses in BPM: process mining, process modeling and repositories, process model comparison, and process analysis.

This book presents selected papers from an international workshop devoted tothe theory, techniques and tools of decision analysis and support. Major trends in the development of this field are stressed, such as the tendency to place the final user of a decision support system in the center of attention, or an emerging connection between tools and software environments for modeling and for decision support. The volume is acontinuation of the reports on earlier meetings which were published in the same series.

Natural language is one of the most important means of human communication. It enables us to express our will, to exchange thoughts and to document our knowledge in written sources. Owing to its substantial role in many facets of human life, technology for automatically analyzing and processing natural language has recently become increasingly important. In fact, natural language processing tools have paved the way for entirely new business opportunities.The goal of this book is to facilitate the automatic analysis of natural language in process models and to employ this analysis for assisting process model stakeholders. Therefore, a technique is defined that automatically recognizes and annotates process model element labels. In addition, this technique is leveraged to support organizations in effectively utilizing their process models in various ways.The book is organized into seven chapters. It starts with an overview of business process management and linguistics and continues with conceptual contributions on parsing and annotating process model elements, with the detection and correction of process model guideline violations, with the generation of natural language from process models and finally ends with the derivation of service candidates from process models.

Roughly nine years ago, the two editors met for the first time in Amsterdam, the Netherlands at the EURO III meeting (organized by the Association of European Operational Research Societies) there. As a result of our initial meeting, the two of us planned and carried out a number of activities in the multiple criteria decision making area, much of it supported by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The latest of these activities was a NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on multiple criteria. decision making and risk analysis using microcomputers. The institute was held in Tarabya, Istanbul, TURKEY, on June 28 - July 8, 1987. We received over 100 applications from professors (and a few graduate students) in 13 countries. Roughly half of them were able to participate. The ASI was a great success! Substantial knowledge transfer and learning took place. In addition to the planned presentations, we had several panels and round table discussions. Though we had planned these in advance, we implemented them to fit the occasion, and also organized a few special sessions on site to respond to participants'interests.
