The two-volume set LNAI 8467 and LNAI 8468 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing, ICAISC 2014, held in Zakopane, Poland in June 2014. This book contains state-of-the-art contributions in the field of evolutionary and deterministic methods for design, optimization and control in engineering and sciences.Specialists have written each of the 34 chapters as extended versions of selected papers presented at the International Conference on Evolutionary and Deterministic Methods for Design, Optimization and Control with Applications to Industrial and Societal Problems (EUROGEN 2013). Fluid flows are characterized by uncertain inputs such as random initial data, material and flux coefficients, and boundary conditions. The current volume addresses the pertinent issue of efficiently computing the flow uncertainty, given this initial randomness. It collects seven original review articles that cover improved versions of the Monte Carlo method (the so-called multi-level Monte Carlo method (MLMC)), moment-based stochastic Galerkin methods and modified versions of the stochastic collocation methods that use adaptive stencil selection of the ENO-WENO type in both physical and stochastic space. The methods are also complemented by concrete applications such as flows around aerofoils and rockets, problems of aeroelasticity (fluid-structure interactions), and shallow water flows for propagating water waves. The wealth of numerical examples provide evidence on the suitability of each proposed method as well as comparisons of different approaches.

The considerable influence of inherent uncertainties on structural behavior has led the engineering community to recognize the importance of a stochastic approach to structural problems. Issues related to uncertainty quantification and its influence on the reliability of the computational models are continuously gaining in significance. In particular, the problems of dynamic response analysis and reliability assessment of structures with uncertain system and excitation parameters have been the subject of continuous research over the last two decades as a result of the increasing availability of powerful computing resources and technology. This book is a follow up of a previous book with the same subject (ISBN 978-90-481-9986-0) and focuses on advanced computational methods and software tools which can highly assist in tackling complex problems in stochastic dynamic/seismic analysis and design of structures. Along with finite differences and finite elements, spectral methods are one of the three main methodologies for solving partial differential equations on computers. This book provides a detailed presentation of basic spectral algorithms, as well as a systematical presentation of basic convergence theory and error analysis for spectral methods. This is the proceedings from the ENUMATH 2009 conference in Uppsala, Sweden, in June 29- July 3, 2009, with about 100 papers by the invited speakers and the speakers in the minisymposia and contributed sessions. The volume gives an overview of contemporary techniques, algorithms and results in numerical mathematics, scientific computing and their applications. Examples of methods are finite element methods, multiscale methods, numerical linear algebra, and high performance computing algorithms applied to problems in fluid flow, materials, electromagnetics, and chemistry.

This book deals with the application of spectral methods to problems of uncertainty propagation and quanti?cation in model-based computations. It speci?cally focuses on computational and algorithmic features of these methods which are most useful in dealing with models based on partial differential equations, with special att- tion to models arising in simulations of?uid?ows. Implementations are illustrated through applications to elementary problems, as well as more elaborate examples selected from the authors'interests in incompressible vortex-dominated?ows and compressible?ows at low Mach numbers. Spectral stochastic methods are probabilistic in nature, and are consequently rooted in the rich mathematical foundation associated with probability and measure spaces. Despite the authors'fascination with this foundation, the discussion only - ludes to those theoretical aspects needed to set the stage for subsequent applications. The book is authored by practitioners, and is primarily intended for researchers or graduate students in computational mathematics, physics, or?uid dynamics. The book assumes familiarity with elementary methods for the numerical solution of time-dependent, partial differential equations; prior experience with spectral me- ods is naturally helpful though not essential. Full appreciation of elaborate examples in computational?uid dynamics (CFD) would require familiarity with key, and in some cases delicate, features of the associated numerical methods. Besides these shortcomings, our aim is to treat algorithmic and computational aspects of spectral stochastic methods with details suf?cient to address and reconstruct all but those highly elaborate examples.

The Fifth International Conference on Automatic Differentiation held from August 11 to 15, 2008 in Bonn, Germany, is the most recent one in a series that began in Breckenridge, USA, in 1991 and continued in Santa Fe, USA, in 1996, Nice, France, in 2000 and Chicago, USA, in 2004. The 31 papers included in these proceedings re?ect the state of the art in automatic differentiation (AD) with respect to theory, applications, and tool development. Overall, 53 authors from institutions in 9 countries contributed, demonstrating the worldwide acceptance of AD technology in computational science. Recently it was shown that the problem underlying AD is indeed NP-hard, f- mally proving the inherently challenging nature of this technology. So, most likely, no deterministic “silver bullet” polynomial algorithm can be devised that delivers optimum performance for general codes. In this context, the exploitation of doma- speci?c structural information is a driving issue in advancing practical AD tool and algorithm development. This trend is prominently re?ected in many of the pub- cations in this volume, not only in a better understanding of the interplay of AD and certain mathematical paradigms, but in particular in the use of hierarchical AD approaches that judiciously employ general AD techniques in application-speci?c - gorithmic harnesses. In this context, the understanding of structures such as sparsity of derivatives, or generalizations of this concept like scarcity, plays a critical role, in particular for higher derivative computations.

We are delighted to present this book which contains the Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ICCFD5), held in Seoul, Korea from July 7 through 11, 2008. The ICCFD series has established itself as the leading international conference series for scientists, mathematicians, and engineers specialized in the computation of fluid flow. In ICCFD5, 5 Invited Lectures and 3 Keynote Lectures were delivered by renowned researchers in the areas of innovative modeling of flow physics, innovative algorithm development for flow simulation, optimization and control, and advanced multidisciplinary - plications. There were a total of 198 contributed abstracts submitted from 25 countries. The executive committee consisting of C. H. Bruneau (France), J. J. Chattot (USA), D. Kwak (USA), N. Satofuka (Japan), and myself, was responsible for selection of papers. Each of the members had a separate subcommittee to carry out the evaluation. As a result of this careful peer review process, 138 papers were accepted for oral presentation and 28 for poster presentation. Among them, 5 (3 oral and 2 poster presentation) papers were withdrawn and 10 (4 oral and 6 poster presentation) papers were not presented. The conference was attended by 201 delegates from 23 countries. The technical aspects of the conference were highly beneficial and informative, while the non-technical aspects were fully enjoyable and memorable. In this book, 3 invited lectures and 1 keynote lecture appear first. Then 99 c- tributed papers are grouped under 21 subject titles which are in alphabetical order.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Algorithms and Models for the Web-Graph, WAW 2007, held in San Diego, CA, USA, in December 2007 - colocated with WINE 2007, the Third International Workshop on Internet and Network Economics. The 13 revised full papers and five revised short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a large pool of submissions for inclusion in the book. The papers address a wide variety of topics.

There is currently ever pressing need to provide a critical assessment of the current knowledge and indicate new challenges which are brought by the present time in fighting the man-made and natural hazards in transient analysis of structures. The latter concerns both the permanently fixed structures, such as those built to protect the people and/or sensitive storage material (e. g. military installations) or the special structures found in transportation systems (e. g. bridges, tunnels), and the moving structures (such as trains, plains, ships or cars). The present threat of the terrorist attacks or accidental explosions, the climate change which brings strong stormy winds or yet the destructive earthquake motion that occurs in previously inactive regions or brings about tsunamis, are a few examples of the kind of applications we seek to address in this work. The common ground for all the problems of this kind from the viewpoint of structural integrity, which also justifies putting them on the same basis and addressing them within the same context, is their sudden appearance, their transient nature and the need to evaluate the consequence for a high level of uncertainty in quantifying the cause. The problems of such diversity cannot be placed within a single traditional scientific discipline, but they call for the expertise in probability theory for quantifying the cause, interaction problems for better understanding the physical nature of the problems, as well as modeling and computational techniques for improving the representation of inelastic behavior mechanisms and providing the optimal design.

The four-volume set LNCS 2657, LNCS 2658, LNCS 2659, and LNCS 2660 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Computational Science, ICCS 2003, held concurrently in Melbourne, Australia and in St. Petersburg, Russia in June 2003. The four volumes present more than 460 reviewed contributed and invited papers and span the whole range of computational science, from foundational issues in computer science and algorithmic mathematics to advanced applications in virtually all application fields making use of computational techniques. These proceedings give a unique account of recent results in the field.
