This book provides an overview of the emerging field of in situ visualization, i.e. visualizing simulation data as it is generated. In situ visualization is a processing paradigm in response to recent trends in the development of high-performance computers. It has great promise in its ability to access increased temporal resolution and leverage extensive computational power. However, the paradigm also is widely viewed as limiting when it comes to exploration-oriented use cases. Furthermore, it will require visualization systems to become increasingly complex and constrained in usage. As research efforts on in situ visualization are growing, the state of the art and best practices are rapidly maturing.Specifically, this book contains chapters that reflect state-of-the-art research results and best practices in the area of in situ visualization. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 19th International Conference on Fundamental Approaches to Software Engineering, FASE 2016, which took place in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in April 2016, held as Part of the European Joint Conferences on Theory and Practice of Software, ETAPS 2016. High Performance Computing (HPC) remains a driver that offers huge potentials and benefits for science and society. However, a profound understanding of the computational matters and specialized software is needed to arrive at effective and efficient simulations. Dedicated software tools are important parts of the HPC software landscape, and support application developers. Even though a tool is by definition not a part of an application, but rather a supplemental piece of software, it can make a fundamental difference during the development of an application. Such tools aid application developers in the context of debugging, performance analysis, and code optimization, and therefore make a major contribution to the development of robust and efficient parallel software. This book introduces a selection of the tools presented and discussed at the 9th International Parallel Tools Workshop held in Dresden, Germany, September 2-3, 2015, which offered an established forum for discussingthe latest advances in parallel tools.

Current advances in High Performance Computing (HPC) increasingly impact efficient software development workflows. Past and current research in computer performance analysis has focused primarily on dedicated parallel machines. However, future applications in the area of high-performance computing will not only use individual parallel systems but a large set of networked resources. This scenario of computational and data Grids is attracting a great deal of attention from both computer and computational scientists. In addition to the inherent complexity of parallel machines, the sharing and transparency of the available resources introduces new challenges on performance analysis, techniques, and systems. In order to meet those challenges, a multi-disciplinary approach to the multi-faceted problems of performance is required. New degrees of freedom will come into play with a direct impact on the performance of Grid computing, including wide-area network performance, quality-of-service (QoS), heterogeneity, and middleware systems, to mention only a few.

The goal of the project is to provide the polish scientific community with an IT platform based on grid computer clusters, enabling e-science research in various fields. The created infrastructure is both compatible and interoperable with existing european and worldwide grid frameworks. The system ensures scalability and enables the integration of additional local clusters, belonging to universities, research institutions and technology platforms. This state-of-the-art survey describes the experience and the scientific results obtained by project partners as well as the outcome of research and development activities carried out within the Polish Infrastructure for Information Science Support in the European Research Space PL-Grid (PL-Grid 2011), held in December 2011 in Krakow, Poland. The 26 papers are organized in topical sections on: eclipse parallel tools platform integrated with QosCosGrid, the migrating desktop, science gateways based on the vine toolkit, the gridspace experiment platform, and the InSilico-Lab environment.

Parallel and distributed processing, although within the focus of computer science research for a long time, is gaining more and more importance in a wide spectrum of applications. These proceedings aim to demonstrate the use of parallel and distributed processing concepts in different application fields, and attempt to spark interest in novel research directions to parallel and high-performance computing research in general. The objective of these workshops is to specifically address researchers coming from university, industry and governmental research organizations and application-oriented companies in order to close the gap between purely scientific research and the applicab- ity of the research ideas to real-life problems. Euro-Par is an annual series of international conferences dedicated to the pro- tion and advancement of all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. The 2008 event was the 14th issue of the conference. Euro-Par has for a long time been eager to attract colocated events sharing the same goal of promoting the dev- opment of parallel and distributed computing, both as an industrial technique and an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. Since 2006, Euro-Par has been offering researchers the chance to co- cate advanced technical workshops back-to-back with the main conference.

This is volume 75 of Advances in Computers. This series, which began publication in 1960, is the oldest continuously published anthology that chronicles the ever- changing information technology field. In these volumes we publish from 5 to 7 chapters, three times per year, that cover the latest changes to the design, development, use and implications of computer technology on society today. In this present volume we present five chapters describing new technology affecting users of such machines. In this volume we continue a theme presented last year in volume 72 – High Performance Computing. In volume 72 we described several research projects being conducted in the United States on the development of a new generation of high performance supercomputers.
