The 2009 International Conference on High-Performance Networking, Computing and Communication Systems and the 2009 International Conference on Theoretical and Mathematical Foundations of Computer Science (ICHCC -ICTMF 2009) were held during December 13–14, 2009, in Sanya, Hainan Island, China. ICHCC -ICTMF 2009 was a comprehensive conference focused on the various aspects of advances in high-performance networking, computing, communication systems and mathematical foundations. The conferences provided a chance for academic and industry profe- ionals to discuss recent progress in the area of high-performance networking, com- ting, communication systems and mathematical foundations. The conferences were co-sponsored by the Intelligent Information Technology Application Research Association, Hong Kong and Wuhan Institute of Technology, China. The goal was to bring together researchers from academia and industry as well as practitioners to share ideas, problems and solutions relating to the multifaceted aspects of this area. We received 60 submissions. Every paper was reviewed by three Program C- mittee members, and 15 were selected as regular papers for ICHCC -ICTMF 2009, representing a 25% acceptance rate for regular papers. The participants of the conference had the chance to hear from renowned keynote speakers Jun Wang from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong and Chin-Chen Chang from Feng Chia University, Taiwan. Introduction The International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) is a non-profit umbrella organization for national societies working in the field of information processing. It was founded in 1960 under the auspices of UNESCO. It is organized into several technical c- mittees. This book represents the proceedings of the 2008 conference of technical committee 8 (TC8), which covers the field of infor- tion systems. TC8 aims to promote and encourage the advancement of research and practice of concepts, methods, techniques and issues related to information systems in organisations. TC8 has established eight working groups covering the following areas: design and evaluation of information systems; the interaction of information systems and the organization; decision support systems; e-business information systems: multi-disciplinary research and practice; inf- mation systems in public administration; smart cards, technology, applications and methods; and enterprise information systems. TheexplosivegrowthoftheInternetandtheWebhavecreatedanever-growing demand for information systems, and ever-growing challenges for Information Systems Engineering. The series of Conferences on Advanced Information S- tems Engineering (CAiSE) was launched in Scandinavia by Janis Bubenko and Arne Solvberg in 1989, became an important European conference, and was held annually in major European sites throughout the 1990s. Now, in its 14th year,CAiSEwasheldforthe?rsttimeoutsideEurope,showcasinginternational researchon information systems and their engineering. Not surprisingly, this year the conference enjoyed unprecedented attention. In total, the conference received 173 paper submissions, the highest number ever for a CAiSE conference. Of those, 42 were accepted as regular papers and 26 as short (poster) papers. In addition, the conference received 12 proposals for workshops of which 8 were approved, while 4 tutorials were selected from 15 submissions. The technical program was put together by an international committee of 81 experts. In total, 505 reviews were submitted, with every member of the committeecontributing.Decisionsonallsubmissionswerereachedataprogram committee meeting in Toronto on January 26-27,2002. Workshop and tutorial proposals were handled separately by committees chaired by Patrick Martin (workshops), and Jarek Gryz and Richard Paige (tutorials). We wish to extend a great “THANK YOU!” to all members of the program and organizing committees for their volunteer contributions of time and exp- tise. The fact that so many busy (and famous!) people took the trouble to help uswiththeorganizationofthisconferenceandtheformationofitstechnicalp- gram speaks well for the future of CAiSE and the?eld of Information Systems Engineering.

E-services, and in particular Web services, are emerging as a promising tech- logy for the e?ective automation of application integration across networks and organizations. The basic technological infrastructure for e-services is structured around three major standards: SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI. These standards p- vide building blocks for service description, discovery, and interaction. E-service technologies have clearly in?uenced positively the development of integrated - stems by providing programmatic access to e-services through SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI. E-services are evolving toward being able to solve critical integ- tion issues including security, transactions, collaborative processes management, semantic aspects, and seamless integration with existing middleware infrastr- tures. VLDB-TES 2003 was the fourth workshop in a successful series of annual workshops on technologies for E-services, held in conjunction with the VLDB conference. The objective of VLDB-TES 2003 was to bring together researchers, practitioners,anduserstoexchangenewideas,developments,andexperienceson issues related to E-services. VLDB-TES 2003 took place in Berlin, Germany. It featured the presentation of 16 regular papers. In addition to the presentation of research papers, the workshop included two invited talks and a panel discussion.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Web-Age Information Management, WAIM 2002 held in Beijing, China in August 2002.The 40 papers presented together with two system demonstrations were carefully reviewed and selected from 169 submissions. This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling, ER 2001, held in Tokohama, Japan, in November 2001.The 45 revised full papers presented together with three keynote presentations were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 197 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on spatial databases, spatio-temporal databases, XML, information modeling, database design, data integration, data warehouse, UML, conceptual models, systems design, method reengineering and video databases, workflows, web information systems, applications, and software engineering.

After a decade of major technical and theoretical advancements in the area, the scope for exploitation of database technology has never been greater. Neither has the challenge. This volume contains the proceedings of the 17th British National Conference on Databases (BNCOD 2000), held at the University of Exeter in July 2000. In selecting the quality papers presented here, the programme committee was p- ticularly interested in the demands being made on the technology by emerging application areas, including web applications, push technology, multimedia data, and data warehousing. The concern remains the same: satisfaction of user - quirements on quality and performance. However, with increasing demand for timely access to heterogeneous data distributed on an unregulated Internet, new challenges are presented. Our three invited speakers develop the theme for the conference, considering new dimensions concerning user requirements in accessing distributed, hete- geneous information sources. In the?rst paper presented here, Gio Wiederhold re?ects on the tension between requirements for, on the one hand, precision and relevance and on the other completeness and recall in relating data from heterogeneous resources. In resolving this tension in favour of the former, he maintains that this will fundamentally a?ect future research directions. Sharma Chakravarthy adds another dimension to the requirement on inf- mation, namely timeliness. He shares a vision of just-in-time information de- vered by a push technology based on reactive capabilities. He maintains that this requires a paradigm shift to a user-centric view of information.

This book provides a comprehensive state-of-the-art, in conceptual modeling. It grew out of research papers presented at the 18th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER'99) and arranged by the editors. The plan of the conference is to cover the whole spectrum of conceptual modeling as it relates to database and information systems design and to offer a complete coverage of data and process modeling, database technology, and database applications. The aim of the conference and of these proceedings is to present new insights related to each of these topics. This book contains both selected and invited papers. The 33 selected papers are organized in 11 sessions encompassing the major themes of the conference, especially : - schema transformation, evolution, and integration - temporal database design - views and reuse in conceptual modeling - advanced conceptual modeling - business process modeling and workflows - data warehouse design. Besides the selected papers, 3 invited papers present the views of three keynote speakers, internationally known for their contribution to conceptual modeling and database research and for their active role in knowledge dissemination. Peter Chen presents the results of his ongoing research on ER model, XML, and the Web. Georges Gardarin presents the first results of an ESPRIT project federating various data sources with XML and XML-QL. Finally, Matthias Jarke develops a way to capture and evaluate the experiences gained about process designs in so-called process data warehouses.

The International Conference on Networking (ICN01) is the first conference in its series aimed at stimulating technical exchange in the emerging and important field of networking. On behalf of the International Advisory Committee, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference on Networking. Integration of fixed and portable wirele ss access into IP and ATM networks presents a cost effective and eff icient way to provide seamless end to end connectivity and ubiquitous access in a market where demands on Mobile and Cellular Networks have grown rapidly and predicted to generate billions of dollars in revenue. The deployment of broadband IP based technologies over Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and integration of IP with broadband wireless access networks (BWANs) are becoming increasingly important. In addition, fixed core IP/ATM networks are constructed with recent move to IP/MPLS over DWDM. More over, mobility introduces further challenges in the area that have neither been fully understood nor resolved in the preceding network generation. This first Conference ICN01 has been very well perceived by the International networking community. A total of 300 papers from 39 countries were submitted, from which 168 have been accepted. Each paper has been reviewed by several members of the scientific Program Committee.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 17th International Workshop on Algorithms and Models for the Web Graph, WAW 2020, held in Warsaw, Poland, in September 2020. The 12 full papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 19 submissions. The aim of the workshop was to further the understanding of graphs that arise from the Web and various user activities on the Web, and stimulate the development of high-performance algorithms and applications that exploit these graphs.Due to the corona pandemic the conference was postponed from June 2020 to September 2020.
