Die Publikation untersucht den Stakeholderdialog im Kontext unternehmerischer Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation. Dabei geht sie zunächst auf die Themen Nachhaltigkeit und Unternehmenskommunikation ein, um den Stakeholderdialog dann in der unternehmerischen Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation zu verorten. Hierbei wird der Stakeholderdialog sowohl als Kommunikationsmittel des Stakeholdermanagements als auch der Unternehmenskommunikation diskutiert. Darüber hinaus werden Argumente für einen Stakeholderdialog im Rahmen unternehmerischer Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation benannt und Potenziale für seine Entwicklung aufgezeigt. In einem zweiten Abschnitt untersucht die Autorin den Stakeholderdialog im Bankensektor und stellt hierbei Ergebnisse eines binationalen Forschungsprojekts zu Nachhaltigkeitskommunikation und Stakeholderdialog im deutschen und italienischen Bankensektor dar. Durch die Auswirkungen der Informationsgesellschaft sowie in Zeiten zunehmender Präsenz und Professionalisierung von Nicht-Regierungsorganisationen (NGOs) haben sich die Anforderungen an Unternehmen verändert. Für sie gewinnt die Auseinandersetzung mit sozialen und ökologischen Aspekten ihres Handelns an Bedeutung, da u.a. die NGOs dies vehement einfordern. Zunehmend setzen sich Unternehmen daher auch mit ihren kritischen Stakeholdern – den NGOs – auseinander. In so genannten Stakeholderdialogen versuchen Unternehmen und NGOs Verständigung zu erzielen anstatt sich konfrontativ zu begegnen. Die vorliegende Arbeit widmet sich der Frage, welche Erfolgsfaktoren bei Dialogen zwischen Unternehmen und zivilgesellschaftlichen Akteuren (insbes. NGOs) die Qualität des Verhandlungsprozesses sowie die Akzeptanz des Verhandlungsergebnisses beeinflussen. Im Rahmen der Arbeit wird dabei auf die individuelle Ebene der handelnden Akteure bzw. die Verhandlungsführer fokussiert. Die Verhandlungssituation sowie die Handlungsanreize werden mit Hilfe verschiedener Variationen des Rational-Choice-Ansatzes betrachtet. Anhand der Nutzentheorie nach Hartmut Esser sowie der Spieltheorie wird analytisch beleuchtet, warum Akteure so handeln, wie sie es tun. Weiterhin wird eine normative Perspektive gewählt und der Frage nachgegangen wie Akteure handeln sollten, wobei insbesondere das Harvard Konzept für erfolgreiches Verhandeln im Zentrum der Betrachtung steht. Bei den Dialogverfahren sind die Ausgangsvoraussetzungen und die Ressourcenausstattung bei Unternehmen und NGOs zumeist sehr unterschiedlich. Daher wird mit der Ressource-Dependency-Theory ein spezielles Augenmerk auf die Bedeutung von Ressourcen in Dialogen gelegt. Aus den theoretischen Überlegungen lassen sich wesentliche Kriterien ableiten, die für den Prozess- und Ergebniserfolg von Stakeholderdialogen maßgeblich erscheinen. Im empirischen Teil werden vier Dialogbeispiele mit Hilfe leitfadengestützter Interviews analysiert. Hierfür wurden die drei an den Dialogen beteiligten Personengruppen – Unternehmensvertretung, NGO-Vertretung und Moderation – zu Erfolgsfaktoren der analysierten Dialogbeispiele unabhängig voneinander befragt. Sowohl subjektunabhängig messbare („objektive“) als auch subjektive Erfolgsfaktoren in Bezug auf den Prozess und das Ergebnis wurden abgefragt und ausgewertet. Des Weiteren wurden auch auf den Dialogkontext bezogene Faktoren, die als intervenierende Variable den Prozess und das Ergebnis beeinflussen, beleuchtet. Die theoretischen Erfolgsprinzipien – Fairness, Kompetenz, Effizienz und Legitimität – sowie die Erfolgsprinzipien des Harvard Verhandlungskonzeptes – Trennung von Sach- und Beziehungsebene, Übersetzung von Positionen in Interessen, gemeinsame Entwicklung von Win-Win-Lösungen und die Anwendung neutraler Beurteilungskriterien - wurden auf ihre Bedeutung hin untersucht. Wie die Auswertung der Fallbeispiele ergab konnten diese Prinzipien umfangreich bestätigt sowie um weitere Erfolgsprinzipien – Transparenz, Unabhängigkeit und Vertrauen – ergänzt werden. Auch die besondere Bedeutung von subjektunabhängig messbaren („objektiven“) Kriterien für die Zufriedenheit mit den Dialogen zeigte sich anhand der Dialogbeispiele. Ressourcen waren im Dialogkontext sehr wichtig wobei insbesondere kommunikative Fähigkeiten und Zeit kaum substituierbar waren, während mit anderen Ressourcen (z.B. Geld und Wissen) kreativ umgegangen werden konnte. Darüber hinaus konnten einige interessante akteursspezifische Besonderheiten aus der Studie abgeleitet werden wie die ausbaufähige verhandlungstheoretische Vorbereitung der NGOs sowie der für den Erfolg der Dialoge kontraproduktive Effizienzdruck der Unternehmen. Dialoge zwischen Unternehmen und NGOs haben gute Chancen erfolgreich zu sein, wenn die identifizierten Erfolgsprinzipien und –kriterien mit Hilfe einer kompetenten Moderation umgesetzt werden sowie ausreichend Zeit vorhanden ist, so dass vor Abschluss des Prozesses alle
