- Abstract
Cyber risk has emerged as a key threat to financial stability, following recent attacks on financial institutions. This paper presents a novel documentation of cyber risk around the world for financial institutions by analyzing the different types of cyber incidents (data breaches, fraud and business disruption) and identifying patterns using a variety of datasets. The other novel contribution that is outlined is a quantitative framework to assess cyber risk for the financial sector. The framework draws on a standard VaR type framework used to assess various types of stability risk and can be easily applied at the individual country level. The framework is applied in this paper to the available cross-country data and yields illustrative aggregated losses for the financial sector in the sample across a variety of scenarios ranging from 10 to 30 percent of net income.

- Abstract
This paper presents the results of the second round of the Revenue Administration Fiscal Information Tool (RA-FIT) country survey in an aggregated manner for all respondents and by income group. Notwithstanding regional biases and some data quality issues with the sample, broad insights and trends are discernible from the data, and the results form part of an evolving series that will continue to develop and grow with the International Survey On Revenue Administration (ISORA), the successor survey to RA-FIT conducted by the IMF in collaboration with the Inter-American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), the Intra-European Organisation of Tax Administration (IOTA), and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). This paper expands on a previous one, which covered the first round of RA-FIT (Lemgruber and others 2015),1 and aims to allow countries to access information about key measures in revenue administration. Unlike the first paper, this one does not cover issues specific to customs administration but focuses rather on tax administration data.

- Abstract
The book aims to converge the perspectives of authors, editors, and reviewers to discuss modern scientific publishing practice and emerging concerns in the contemporary world. Authors, editors, and reviewers form a triage in a publishing ecosystem which is witnessing a huge pressure due to changing evaluation criteria for career progression and grant funding. The major perspective of this book is to put forth the present-day emerging ills of modern publishing system and sensitize the research fraternity - be it young researchers or established scientists towards practicing good science and preserving spirit of scientific discoveries. The edited book consists of three parts viz, Part I “Authors, Authorship, and Scholarly Dissemination” features ten chapters devoted to describe authorship issues and good publication practice, plagiarism concerns, preprints, open access models, conflicting interests, rise of review papers, writing book reviews, and assessing faculty beyond metrics. Part II “Editors, Editorial Desks, and Issues of Scientific Misconduct” features eight chapters devoted to discuss on issues of editorial misconduct, desk rejections, paper mills, letters to editors, image duplication, emerging ChatGPT in writing/reviewing spaces, citation cartels, and retractions. Finally, Part III “Reviewers and Developing Evaluator's Eye” features five chapters devoted to discuss peer review as an idea creating model, paying peer reviewers, training reviewers, peer review manipulations, and peer review in age of AI. All chapters in the book are written by expert contributors of the field that provides a systematic approach of understanding various challenges, opportunities, and ethical considerations of scientific publishing ecosystem. Most of the chapters have featured recent cases of scientific misconduct as examples to reflect scale of the problem. This book will serve as a reference to research practitioners in understanding assigning authorship on papers, modern-day publishing collaboration, role of editors to serve journals in a holistic manner and ensuring fair peer review mechanisms.

- Abstract
Seminar paper from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 4.9, Kenyatta University, course: Business Management, language: English, abstract: In the ever-evolving landscape of business, organizations constantly find themselves at the crossroads of change. Whether driven by external market forces or internal transformations, change is an inevitable companion on the corporate journey. The ability to navigate change effectively often defines the success and longevity of a company. In this change analysis paper, we delve into the intriguing narratives of two renowned publicly traded companies and explore how they have handled significant changes in their organizations. Change is not a monolithic concept; rather, it takes on different shapes and forms, each with its unique set of challenges and opportunities. To comprehend these dynamic processes, we employ the concept of'Images of Change.'Each image represents a distinct perspective on change management, ranging from the assertive'director'to the empathetic'nurturer.'By analyzing these images, we gain a deeper understanding of how these organizations responded to pivotal moments of transformation and adapted to the ever-changing corporate landscape. In the spotlight are two corporate giants, Apple Inc. and General Electric. Apple, a global icon renowned for its innovative prowess, faced a momentous leadership transition from the visionary Steve Jobs to the pragmatic Tim Cook. On the other hand, General Electric, a conglomerate with a storied history, undertook a series of strategic shifts, divestitures, and restructurings to remain relevant in an evolving industrial landscape. This paper embarks on a journey to dissect the change images embodied by these companies and their application within their unique contexts. It explores the pressures that necessitated these changes, the distinctions between their change approaches, and the unintended consequences that emerged along the way. Through this comparative analysis, we aim to glean valuable insights into the art of change management, demonstrating that the path to change is as diverse as the organizations that traverse it.

- Abstract
How can management research promote a more applicable and a more transparent knowledge for the benefit of individuals and organizations? Looming large over this question is the challenge of repurposing management research for improving public good. Co-edited by R. H. Tiell and S. C. Malka, the title of the book says it all - Amplifying management research for the common good: Lessons for curious individuals and organizations - Insights from practitioners in the field. In this book, we sought to bridge the chasm that separates the non-academic audience from the typically less-accessible scientific journals. We attempted to make empirical evidence more inclusive, impactful and public good relevant for the non-academic stakeholders that live and work in the broader community. For that purpose, we made available to the reader and to our chapter contributors a collection of published papers, some authored by the editors of this book, and others co-authored with other researchers. The papers cover a diverse set of business topics all of which we believe hold much relevance for management today. Providing the reader with their insights on subject matter along with lessons and practical recommendations, we sought experts in the field that can build on empirical research in various areas of management and then synthesize and broaden it through their expertise and work experience. As a trigger, we aligned each contributor with one or two empirical papers based on their background, interests, and professional experience. Using the assigned papers as a springboard, we asked each author to identify emerging themes around which they can build their chapter. We wanted them to think of the book audience: non-academicians comprised of interested and curious individuals, managers, and their organizations. And, we wanted our authors to elaborate on practical lessons, suggestions, and recommendations that can make a difference in the lives of the book audience. Our effort resulted in a collection of chapters covering a wide range of topics from supply chain challenges in Central America, to life changing long-term effects of the pandemic, from delivery of services for mental health and suicide, to logistics capabilities pre-post Ivan in the Cayman Islands, from the new workplace, to labor market shortages, and from new workforce service pathways, and the optimization of talent, to the impact of recent recessions on the youth and the unemployed, and the assessment of C-suit level leaders. We would like to believe that the breadth of the topics covered and the amount of information being disseminated through the book chapters are meaningful, practical, and relevant to a wide audience of curious readers. ENDORSEMENTS'I highly recommend “Amplifying Management Research for the Common Good” to anyone interested in shaping the workplace of the future. Written by a team of experts, this book provides a compelling argument for why free and open access to research is essential for improving workforce outcomes. The authors explore how the current paywall system limits the dissemination of critical research findings and prevents practitioners and policymakers from accessing the latest insights and innovations. As we exit a global pandemic and enter a re-shaping of the world of work the nation's talent development ecosystem must innovate and scale to the need. By advocating for open access to research, the authors advance the forming of a more effective and equitable workforce development system. This book is a must-read for anyone looking to contribute to that cause.'— Rick Maher, Adaptive Human Capital'Someone once observed that a crisis is a horrible thing to waste. The essence of this advice is that a crisis will always have the potential for the wise and curious to draw lessons and extract prescriptions. Tiell and Malka have produced a book reflecting not only their curiosity and wisdom, but also their desire to help all who follow their pre

- Abstract
This volume collects the best papers presented at the 2019 Conference SIEV (Italian Society of Appraisal and Valuation) on the Science of Evaluation foundations, actuality, and prospects. The book consists of twenty-six papers and is organized into four parts: the first one collects reflections on the nature of the value judgement, on the truth of the evaluative statement, and on the authenticity its contents, the values; the next three present operational experiences in the three fields of natural, urban and cultural heritage where the knowledge of the value of the human space, supports decisions and policies, highlighting feature concerning: value and valuations in the dialectic between earth and the city; the value bearers between heuristic and normatively; the role of valuation for the complementarity of rules and creativity. The book is being published in the midst of the new radical transformations of the equilibrium between social system and environment generated by the serious and unexpected crises of the third decade of this century. Reflections on the reality that fills evaluative statement with truth – the reality of values – is more topical than ever in a historic phase in which the role of democracies and the destiny of civil coexistence is called into question, claiming the order of unamendable values like truth, justice and beauty. The book brings together experiences that focus on the “intentional evaluative consciousness” as a condition for the responsibility of the subject - individual and collective - concerning the saliences and urgencies most significantly contributing to the formation of orderly communities.

- Abstract
This open access book investigates an entrepreneurial approach to building new theories. It provides a rich understanding of how specific tools facilitate aspects of the theorizing process and offers a clearer big picture of the process of building important new entrepreneurship theories. The authors show that anthropomorphizing has been a critically important tool for developing influential entrepreneurship theories. They reveal how scholars build on their rich and highly accessible understanding of humans (i.e., the self and others) to make guesses and sense of entrepreneurial anomalies, articulate theoretical mechanisms to build more robust entrepreneurship theories, and create plausible stories that facilitate sensegiving. Further, they offer a frameworkthat guides entrepreneurship scholars in finding a balance to maximize their contributions and guides reviewers and editors in managing the revise-and-resubmit process to advance the entrepreneurship field. Finally, they present lean scholarship as an approach to developing a portfolio of high-quality, high-impact papers. Lean scholarship starts with an entrepreneurial mindset and involves creating a minimum viable paper, exploring its validity, adding a plausible paper to one's portfolio, and managing the portfolio by periodically deciding whether to persevere, pivot, or terminate each paper. - Abstract
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (Faculty of Business), language: English, abstract: The purpose of this paper was to examine the long-term viability of three different accommodation sharing platforms (Airbnb, Fairbnb, and Couchsurfing) by evaluating the literature and other source materials available. These platforms'potential and challenges have been highlighted, as well as how each of these platforms contributes to various elements of sustainability. The results indicate that these platforms play different roles in various elements of sustainability. These platforms reduce overproduction and consumption by utilizing spare bedrooms and reducing the need for new hotel constructions. They also make travel more affordable, provide income opportunities (Airbnb & Fairbnb), and promote social interactions. However, they do have certain drawbacks as well. Low-cost travel may encourage people to travel more, resulting in higher CO2 emissions, which may have more negative than positive consequences. However, as shown by the effects of several regulations adopted by different cities, such adverse impacts can be minimized with strict government regulations. Nonetheless, while effective and suitable regulation might help to mitigate the negative effects of these platforms, it is difficult to estimate their exact sustainability repercussions. As a result, this paper calls for a more open examination of accommodation sharing services.

- Abstract
This paper studies corporate performance in the aftermath of the global crisis by examining 6,581 manufacturing firms in 48 developed and developing countries in 2010, identifying factors of resilience as well as vulnerability. Based on a cross-sectional analysis, the results show that pre-crisis leverage and short-term debt have had negative effects on the speed of the recovery, while asset tangibility has had positive effects. The negative effect of leverage is non-linear, being particularly strong in firms with high pre-crisis leverage. Furthermore, the effects are different for advanced and emerging market economies. The paper also shows that the macroeconomic framework critically matters for firm growth. In particular, in countries that have allowed the exchange rate to depreciate, firms have had a faster recovery in sectors highly dependent on trade.

- Abstract
Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,2, Steinbeis University Berlin (School of International Business and Entrepreneurship), course: Dual Degree @ Universidade Vila Velha, language: English, abstract: The megatrend of globalization has been influencing and is still shaping private as well as corporate life. This “inevitable wave of the future (…) is frequently confused with internationalization, but is in fact something totally different.”. For this reason, it is pertinent to elaborate on this issue later on in the literature review because a shared understanding is key in order to provide correct and generalizable results by means of this paper. For a comprehensive understanding of the underlying problems and derived goals for the paper and the project, it is necessary to highlight another trend, whose origin can be traced back to aforementioned one: In addition to the increasing competitive pressure, primarily in the currently disruptively changing automotive and supply industry, the trend of the so-called renaissance of accounting is having far-reaching consequences. Since about 2010, the enormous potential for improvement in the financial sector has been (re)discovered, resulting in the necessity for various analyses with an internal and external focus, in which the existing processes were examined with regards to performance and compared to competitors by benchmarking oneself.

- Abstract
Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 5,0, Stockholm School of Economics, language: English, abstract: Data Science has been one of the most used buzzwords on corporate agendas in recent years and with it, a new professional, the data scientist, has entered the organizational stage. Surprisingly, Management Accounting literature has not investigated the role of data scientists and their interactions with management accountants so far. Via a qualitative case study, we strive to establish a more nuanced and clearer understanding of the concrete tasks carried out by these organizational players and shed light on the interactions with management accountants. In this paper, chapter 2 presents MA frameworks that combine both the IIS and the MA domains. We further give an overview of tasks that have been historically attributed to management accountants. Subsequently, these tasks are contrasted to those ascribed to the new professional actor, i.e. the data scientist. In this context, we present the research questions of this paper, that aim at closing significant research gaps in this area. Afterwards, method theories are introduced that enable the creation of a theoretical framework. Within chapter 3, the research method and case background are presented, so that the research questions can be analyzed in chapter 4 and, afterwards, discussed in chapter 5. Moreover, in this section a general outlook for the MA domain is given. Finally, the limitations of this study are stated and suggestions for further research are presented in chapter 6.

- Abstract
When thinking about lowering or changing consumption to lower carbon footprints, the obvious offenders come easily to mind: petroleum and petroleum products, paper and plastic, even food, but not clothes. When people evaluate ways to lower their personal carbon footprint by changing purchasing habits, they are bombarded with information to avoid petroleum and petroleum products, plastics, paper, even food, but not clothes. Most consumers do not think of clothes as a source of environmental damage. Yet, clothes are made with petroleum products through chemically-laden industrial processes that generate significant pollution. The fashion industry is among the largest organic water polluters in the world, accounting for significant greenhouse gas emissions and generating massive amounts of waste as a function of the frequent discarding of used clothing. In the Dirty Side of the Garment Industry: Fast Fashion and Its Negative Impact on Environment and Society, author Nikolay Anguelov exposed the ecological damage from the fast-fashion business model. In this book, The Sustainable Fashion Quest: Innovations in Business and Policy, the author takes this one step further by focusing on solutions. This book uses the familiar (yet complex) industry of fashion as a lens to examine how business pressures and national and international policies can have both positive and negative social and ecological impacts. It provides an analysis of extant and emerging policies to address the divergence in the ongoing quest to maximize economic development and minimize the social costs of the industrialization process. It also examines emerging technologies and innovative business models that have the potential to revolutionize how fashion is perceived, manufactured, and consumed. This book begins with an introductory letter that outlines the social and environmental issues facing the fashion industry, as well as emphasizing the seriousness and urgency of addressing them. Each chapter then focuses on a major aspect of the industry with an increasing emphasis on policy. The chapters outline the impact of global-level and business-level decisions on the industry's success, its social and environmental impact, and its relationship to consumers. The goal of the book is to define that transition, explain its challenges, and educate readers on the possibilities to become powerful drivers of change through their professional actions and their personal behavior as consumers. While the book specifically analyzes the fashion industry, it also explains the implications for other industrial sectors. It uses a product everyone is familiar with (we all buy clothes, after all) to examine the decisions, impacts, and policies shaping the industry behind the scenes. The linkages are applicable to other fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) business sectors, such as consumer electronics, which are starting to face sustainability criticism for relying on a business model of promoting a high frequency of repeat purchasing.

Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,7, (International University of Applied Sciences), language: English, abstract: This paper deals with cost drivers in the airline industry. A theoretical approach including examples is used. The objective is to gain a clear understanding of what problems airlines are facing within the industry and about the challenges they have to master concerning cost related topics. What are the key determinants behind cost related figures? This paper consists of five major parts. The first part explains the necessity of costing. Why should this topic be taken into account with regard to the airline industry? Therefore, a presentation of profitability within the industry and the significance of costing is presented. The second part demonstrates an overview of the general spreading of expenses, while the third part displays the categorization of costs. This is crucial for a clear understanding of the business; therefore, non-operating aspects have to be excluded. The last section deals with cost topics from different perspectives, such as e.g. total cost, unit cost or external cost factors. Essential matters such as the controllability of costs or BELF are additionally taken into account.
