- Abstract
Volume 18 will focus on approaches to thinking about and creating the start-up. Both theoretical and empirical manuscripts that consider all aspects of start-up planning, thinking and action will be considered. We also encourage practice-based research and manuscripts that explore cutting-edge pedagogical approaches. The papers in Advances reflect many state-of-the-art topics and approaches, and are written by leading researches in the field, making each volume an important source of information for virtually all entrepreneurship researchers. One of the distinctive competences of research volumes such as Advances is that the chapters can be published without page restrictions allowing for greater detail in the background, development, and implementation of ideas than is possible in journal articles. This provides authors with the opportunity to fully express their key ideas, provide much more complete support, and include relevant multi-page appendices. In effect, the Advances series provides authors the opportunity to publish an'article of record'of their major theoretical or empirical ideas, and see it disseminated to a wide audience.

- Abstract
This book focuses on the role of immigrants in building economic, social and political relationships between countries. In this era of growing global interconnectedness, international migration and immigrant issues have become a significant source of disunity between countries. In some receiving countries, immigrants are now workforce replacements for an ageing population, while in sending countries immigrants use the experience gained in their country of residence for investment and entrepreneurial activity in their country of origin. This has led to the suggestion that immigrant activities are no longer a process of bridging the economic imbalance between nations, but rather the bridging of economic, social and political relationships.Transnational diaspora entrepreneurial activity relies on the relationship between immigrants and their home country, their understanding of the economic, political, and social systems in both their home and host countries, and the demand for their home country's cultural goods. As the demand for home cultural goods grows, there is a need to establish businesses that can operate across multiple environments. This book posits that transnational diaspora entrepreneurship can be seen as the internationalization process of immigrant entrepreneurship. It explains the role of enclaves in supporting this activity and offers valuable insights into how immigrant enclave activity and informal networking influence transnational diaspora entrepreneurship.

- Abstract
Established organizations in the public and private sectors struggle when bringing new, innovative ideas to life. This has resulted in the creation of countless “innovation programs” and initiatives, with many, perhaps most, failing to deliver meaningful results. Many of these initiatives fail because they do not get the momentum they need early on, they start in the wrong place, or they focus on the wrong problems; and creating the wrong type of initiative can doom it before it launches. This book takes you through a step-by-step approach which will help you select, structure, and create the right type of initiative to nurture new and innovative ideas and ensure they have the best possible chance to succeed. It includes updated insights, and is filled with questions, examples, artifacts, and tools to help you make key choices as you develop a way to ensure new ideas in your organization flourish. It contains information, experience, and anecdotes that will help you identify, anticipate, and overcome not only roadblocks to bringing those ideas to life, but also obstacles to the initiative itself, and includes frameworks to help accelerate your deployment. What You Will Learn How to build your initiative or program, step-by-step, and measure its effectiveness How innovative ideas differ, why that's important, and why they require different approaches Common impediments to innovation and new idea incubation in public and private sector organizations and how to build an initiative that addresses them What to consider as you design and structure your approach to bringing new ideas to life whether they are products, programs, or internal projects How to lay a solid foundation for your initiative or program to ensure it meets your organization's needs and stakeholder and influencer expectations The teams you will need and how to structure them How to continuously improve your program, framework, toolkit, or initiative to ensure it remains relevant delivers lasting value What you should know before you begin building your initiative The steps required to lay a solid foundation for the initiative before you begin building it How to create the conditions for repeatable innovation, acceleration, or new idea incubation The book includes a toolkit which contains checklists, frameworks, tools, and ceremonies with step-by-step instructions to help accelerate your journey. - Abstract
What does it take to be – or to become – a successful entrepreneur? Are there specific personality types that are best suited to entrepreneurship? And can these types, or rather the attributes that combine to forge them, be learned or acquired? In this book, John Thompson answers these questions – and many more – to let the reader see through the eyes of the entrepreneur. Entrepreneurs: Talent, Temperament, Opportunity and Mindset introduces the world of entrepreneurship from a person-centred perspective. Part 1 builds an understanding of the entrepreneur as a person based on the key factors of talent and temperament – a unique framework for understanding and exploiting entrepreneurial opportunities. Part 1 also explores the entrepreneurial mindset and how it can be honed and strengthened. The process of starting and growing a business is then described in detail in Part 2, which also examines entrepreneurship in the context of opportunity and strategy. - Abstract
This book emphasizes the concepts of strategic innovation and entrepreneurship, which are quite prevalent in today's organizations. Going beyond traditional approach that follows strategic analysis, choice and implementation framework, and traditional theories based on industrial organization paradigm and resource-based view, the book considers current business environment, which is volatile, uncertain, complex, chaotic, conflicting, and ambiguous (VUCA). It takes the strategic flexibility view to cope with these strategic challenges. The book introduces the subject matter of strategic management in retrospect and prospect, highlighting critical theories of strategic management. It uses a strategic learning framework rather than a purely analytical approach to dynamically learn about the external situation, internal resources, and capabilities. The evolution of strategy is given in terms of generic strategies in practice and adaptation in specific contexts. It further deals with essential topics such as strategic alliances and networks, mergers and acquisitions, and global strategy. It then provides the execution framework and models covering restructuring, leadership, corporate governance, and change management. The strategy in specific areas such as strategic technology management, e-business and knowledge management, and functional strategies and policies are discussed to understand the implementation depth. Finally, it touches upon contemporary issues such as sustainable enterprise, stakeholder perspectives, and comparative strategies in various contexts. It then outlines future directions of strategic management. In the end, case analysis guidelines are provided with sample cases from different parts of the world. The book also used interpretive and simulation methods such as system dynamics and total interpretive structural modeling to grasp the relationships and their dynamic impact provided throughout the book. It will be an invaluable resource for researchers of business strategy as well as students studying these courses; it will also be useful for industry practitioners, corporates and business policy makers.

- Abstract
This book offers a current perspective on Artificial Intelligence in the context of an ever-changing and growing technological revolution in business management. It analyses how existing companies are adapting, new ones are emerging, and others are disappearing. Process re-engineering has made it possible to reshape organizational structures and create new departments and positions, all geared towards digitalization. The emergence of new business functions has led to new strategic thinking on e.g. companies'structure, size, and core business – but also to the creation of new jobs, the need to cover digital skills, and the need for innovative team management. In short, it is a question of delving deeper into HR and the impact that digitalization has had on it, as the employee is one of the key figures to protect. The book initially focuses on providing a review of the current literature on the advancement of Artificial Intelligence and its impact on business transformation and the emergence of new management models. In turn, it addresses the diverse perspectives that currently dominate the business market, as well as the corporate transformations that have taken place in the post-pandemic era. Lastly, it equips employers with new tools to incorporate into their organizations, facilitating talent retention. In connection with HR, this digital transformation is reflected in new roles for change management and cultural transformation, including the use of digital technologies to improve the employee experience. In brief, the book offers a practical guide to business transformation, technological advances, and their application in human resources departments.

This open access book goes into the details of the characteristics of scale-ups, touching upon various theoretical perspectives (stages of growth models, the role of intangible capital, the tradeoffs between fixed costs and marginal costs) relating to firm growth, to provide a clear definition of this emerging concept. Given the disproportionately large economic contribution of a small number of fast-growing firms, there has been growing interest in a category of dynamic ventures called'scale-ups'. The term was popularized by Silicon Valley Venture Capitalists before receiving attention from academics and public policy makers. However, there remains considerable confusion regarding what a scale-up actually is.This is an open access book.

Innovation is a top priority for all kinds of organizations, of all sizes and shapes, throughout the world. But innovation doesn't happen only at the executive level. People within an organization come up with great ideas that can propel the company forward. All too often, however, would-be innovators find that the organization is unreceptive to their new ideas. They are stymied by bureaucracy, power dynamics, or countless other barriers to innovation. They find themselves lost in a labyrinth that blocks them everywhere they turn.William Duggan—a leading expert on innovation and strategic thinking—offers a guide to navigating the maze from idea to implementation. He provides practical advice on communicating new ideas effectively, getting buy-in from others, winning allies, and overcoming resistance or outright opposition to innovation. Duggan focuses on the strategy and tactics of building support within the organization, exploring the crucial takeaways from research in psychology about how people react to new ideas. This book includes a series of interviews with successful corporate innovators as well as analysis of historical cases that combine lively storytelling with actionable insights. - Abstract
This guide complements traditional project management by focusing on the critical pre-project stage. It addresses a major challenge: only 12% of projects finish on time and within budget, often due to poor initial pre-project analysis. This leads to wasted resources. The content offers proven best practices for implementing ISO 56007 recommendations, enhancing project calibration, selection, and overall success rates. Liberating innovators from the constraints of traditional business plans, the guide suggests, along with ISO 56007, a'Concept/Opportunity Case'as an investor-friendly alternative. This template is rooted in the robust IpOp Decision Tree, an ISO 56007-recommended checklist of 11 fundamental questions to thoroughly address essential decision-makers'concerns. This rigorous method ensures reliable project selection and optimal resource allocation. The IpOp Model serves as a structured roadmap, enabling project managers and innovators to transform ideas into compelling projects. It provides clear guidance for making informed decisions, whether to pivot or abandon projects that aren't viable. By following ISO 56007 recommendations, the IpOp Model helps navigate uncertainties and manage critical project factors effectively. Ideal for decision-makers, project managers, executives, professionals, intrapreneurs, and entrepreneurs engaged in project management and innovation, this guide is an essential tool for any pre-project analysis and for turning innovative ideas into successful projects.

- Abstract
Starting from the question of what systematic peculiarities in the behavior of leaders and entrepreneurs need to be considered, this book provides a new theoretical perspective for entrepreneurial analysis, evaluation, decision-making, and action. Various theories of complex systems, such as the theory of self-organization (synergetics), are presented. Additionally, methodological approaches for the empirical examination of complexity and the resulting consequences in the field of entrepreneurship are discussed. Overall, it suggests that old models like the Laplacean worldview or Kant's question of what we can know need to be reconsidered. This book offers surprising answers, particularly revealing new opportunities and possibilities in complex processes like starting a business. The second expanded and updated edition strengthens the focus on entrepreneurship as the book's main theme. In today's competitive marketplace, businesses must be entrepreneurial to succeed. This book argues that entrepreneurship allows businesses to adapt to changing economic conditions and societal needs. It focuses on entrepreneurial business venturing as a means of understanding how businesses innovate, take risks, and think futuristically. The text emphasizes the importance of understanding digitalization trends in these ventures to grasp digital innovation trends better. The book explores why an entrepreneurial perspective is crucial in business, explaining the role of the knowledge economy in society and the need for businesses to prioritize digital technology. Furthermore, the book argues that digital forms of entrepreneurship are increasingly important in responding to crises and international developments. It highlights the need for scenario and forecast planning in developing new products and services to meet evolving customer needs. The book also provides examples of business model innovation, which underscores the importance for businesses to emphasize entrepreneurship not only in product development but also in their interactions with society. The primary idea behind this book is to provide a platform for the sharing of contributions from the doctoral students of the Entrepreneurship and International Business group at the Department of Business Administration of Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia). The talented group, consisting of students from countries such as Egypt, Estonia, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Kazakhstan and Russia, are studying across various topics relating to Digital Transformation for Entrepreneurship and its related subjects. This thus creates a ripe opportunity for the sharing of perspectives from different theoretical and methodological applications. The book's chapters study decision-makers of small entrepreneurial firms, both start-ups and mature, as the primary target group, digging deep into their insights on recent and fresh research findings produced by the doctoral students as part of their studies. Therefore, the book fulfills two main objectives: 1) entrepreneurial firms will get concrete ideas and recommendations as to how to address and/or improve their entrepreneurial activities/approaches to entrepreneurship triggered by digital transformation, and 2) the doctoral students will get a unique opportunity to expand their scientific writing skills while at the same time having an opportunity to present their findings in a way that is considered relevant and impactful by practitioners. The scientific quality of each chapter has been ensured by the participation of two experienced scholars and supervisors — one of whom is the head of the Entrepreneurship and International Business group, and an active researcher on the book's topic — who have closely monitored the development process of the book.

The first edition of The Silicon Valley Model, published in 2016, addresses the need for a fundamentally new approach to managing and developing large firms with an emphasis on entrepreneurship. This second edition validates, extends, and updates these original findings. While still encompassing the observations and analysis featured in the first edition, this new edition addresses new developments in management and in the global business environment. Further, it presents Dr. Steiber's research identifying more companies in Asia, Europe, and the USA that are implementing management approaches that parallels the Silicon Valley Model, and in some respects, advanced upon it. New material, appearing mainly in the “Recent Developments” sections in each chapter, includes both real-life events and new research findings related to the management principles for entrepreneurship. In some cases, elements of innovation and development of the Silicon Valley Model have taken new forms in response to changing times or the desires of the companies involved. - Abstract
'A small business is not a little big business.'Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are considered the engines of worldwide economies and the main sources of job creation. Management in these companies is different from management in larger/older enterprises with their already established concepts and instruments. In view of the high importance of SMEs in emerging, developing and developed economies worldwide, the De Gruyter Handbook of SME Entrepreneurship investigates the underlying mechanisms and practices of management within these companies with a focus on entrepreneurship, growth and innovation. It argues that it is time for a dedicated theory of'SME Entrepreneurship'to emerge. Entrepreneurial thinking and behavior in SMEs must be differentiated from that of start-ups and large companies. On the other hand, it also explores the different entrepreneurship manifestations that exist within a widely heterogeneous group of SMEs. The handbook provides a theoretical framework in which to understand, compare and contrast the complexity of SMEs in both domestic and international processes and addresses the strengths, achievements, and challenges of entrepreneurship in SMEs.
