EBES conferences have been an intellectual hub for academic discussion in economics, finance, and business fields and provide network opportunities for participants to make long-lasting academic cooperation. This is the 27th volume of the Eurasian Studies in Business and Economics (EBES's official proceeding series), which includes selected papers from the 40th EBES Conference which took place in Istanbul on July 6-8, 2022. The conference was organized with the support of the Istanbul Economic Research Association in hybrid mode with both online and in-person discussions at the Istanbul Ticaret University in Istanbul, Türkiye. This book critically discusses the historical backgrounds and new developments of the theories of games, decisions, and markets, with many possible applications to social and economic problems. Consisting of three connected parts, the book sheds new light on the role of merchants in the market economy under conditions of risk and uncertainty. Part I begins with the question of why and how John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern did joint work in game theory, namely, the theoretical study of strategic interactions among several decision makers. The duel between Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty in Conan Doyle's famous detective story is recalled as a great inducement to Neumann and Morgenstern to invent zero-sum, two-person games. More general non-zero-sum games and associated Nash solutions are then discussed in relation to the generation-gap problem between a young couple and an elderly couple. Part II explores a set of very fundamental problems of individual decision making. Thetwo famous axioms of revealed preference ― Samuelson's weak axiom and Houthakker's axiom ― are skillfully connected and empirically reevaluated by the introduction of certain regularity conditions. The revealed preference approach is then extended from the original commodity space to the dual price space. Such dual treatment in microeconomics is further applied to the theory of cost and production, with the decomposition of the total factor price effect into the substitution and scale effects. Part III turns the reader's attention to the interdependence of several markets. The almost forgotten Hicks–Morishima approach is newly revived with graphical illustrations of traded goods. The well-known Jones–Kemp approach to international trade is boldly expanded into the world of risk and uncertainty. Some striking results in comparative static analysis are derived, with favorable implications for the real world.

This book aims to explore the development model of Great Bay Area (GBA) of China as economic engine under the context of open policy. Based on comprehensive research, both theoretically and practically, on the leading free ports in the world and the regional development of well-known bay areas, it analyzes the challenges and opportunities of GBA synergetic free ports. A series of initiatives on the development of GBA synergetic free ports are proposed, including the synergy of space, industry, finance, technological innovation, institution, social governance, and personnel. Also, it ends with a system dynamic model to simulate the regional impact on GBA synergetic free ports, which indicates that economic development, trade, government finance, and population agglomeration would be improved significantly, in the GBA synergetic free ports scenario.

This book focuses on how to promote cross-border economic cooperation in the context of China national strategy including BRI. This book summarizes the existing regional economic development theories and sorts out the relevant theories of cross-border economic cooperation. Then, it analyzes the industrial development of China's southwestern border and neighboring countries, the main reasons of rural household poverty in the border ethnic areas by means of empirical methods, and proposes corresponding policy implications. Februar 2022 ergibt sich eine Zeitenwende. Gegen Russland haben viele Länder umfassende Sanktionen verhängt, nicht immer durchdacht. Große Flüchtlingsbewegungen und zugleich starke Energiepreis- und Weizenpreis-Erhöhungen sowie hoher Inflationsdruck ergeben sich weltweit. Von Seiten einiger Ökonomen ist ein deutsches und EU-seitiges Gas-Importembargo gegenüber Russland vorgeschlagen worden – bei überschaubaren ökonomischen Effekten. Diese Sicht ist zweifelhaft, zumal mit Gegenmaßnahmen Russlands bei einem Boykott von Energieexporten zu rechnen ist. Bei der Russland-Analyse des Westens gibt es kritische Punkte; Putins neue Ideologie war seit 2016 erkennbar. Die Weltwirtschaft dürfte vor einem Zerfall in regionale Handelsblöcke stehen und die Wirkungsmacht wichtiger internationaler Organisationen ist gemindert: zum Nachteil von Wachstum, Innovation und Stabilitätsverankerung. Eine EU-Ukraine-Erweiterung ist als kritische Herausforderung zu sehen.

This book investigates spatial institutional variation and its influence on entrepreneurial activity in the Russian Federation, building on an innovative geometric clustering approach. The book looks into how entrepreneurial entry can be explained by institutional factors at the regional level. This is the first book to comprehensively analyze key issues regarding innovation, entrepreneurship, and human resource development in the Japanese agricultural sector. Despite the fact that innovation and entrepreneurship are vital to the development of modern Japanese agriculture, there have been comparatively few studies in this field; in addition, they have been virtually none on measures for developing entrepreneurial human resources or innovation in agriculture.The agricultural sector's declining competitiveness and sustainability as an industry in Japan are serious concerns, especially in combination with an aging labor force and decreasing farmland. To date, Japanese agricultural policies have largely concentrated on accumulating farmland and securing a sufficient agricultural labor force. However, from the perspectives of industrial and regional development, policies focusing on creating innovation, the driving force of economic development, have been recognized as being more effective. Moreover, there have been some recent developments concerning innovation and entrepreneurship in various regions of Japan.This book provides a wealth of significant findings from studies on successful cases involving e.g. agricultural clusters, agriculture–commerce–industry collaborations, networking, franchising, and corporate entry-induced innovation utilizing limited regional resources; and how they have contributed to the development of each region. This short open access book investigates the role of renewable energy in East Africa to provide policy-relevant inputs for the achievement of a cost-effective electrification process in the region. For each country, the authors review the current situation in the domestic power sector, adopt a GIS-based approach to plot renewable energy resources potential, and review currently planned projects and projects under development, as well as the key domestic renewables regulations. Based on such information, least-cost 100% electrification scenarios by 2030 are then modelled and comparative results over the required capacity additions and investment are reported and discussed. The European space best represents the fluidity of borders and frontiers within this transformation. Thus, the European Union is the best space to perform research on the electronic frontiers. Borders are permeable or impermeable, agents of inclusiveness or of exclusion.
