The 10 revised full papers presented were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and revision. The papers are organized in topical sections on XML languages, XML modeling and integration, XML storage, benchmarking XML, and data integration over the Web.

The First Conference on the History of Nordic Computing (HiNC1) was organized in Trondheim, in June 2003. The HiNC1 event focused on the early years of computing, that is the years from the 1940s through the 1960s, although it formally extended to year 1985. In the preface of the proceedings of HiNC1, Janis Bubenko, Jr., John Impagliazzo, and Arne Sølvberg describe well the peculiarities of early Nordic c- puting [1]. While developing hardware was a necessity for the first professionals, quite soon the computer became an industrial product. Computer scientists, among others, grew increasingly interested in programming and application software. P- gress in these areas from the 1960s to the 1980s was experienced as astonishing. The developments during these decades were taken as the focus of HiNC2. During those decades computers arrived to every branch of large and medium-sized businesses and the users of the computer systems were no longer only computer s- cialists but also people with other main duties. Compared to the early years of comp- ing before 1960, where the number of computer projects and applications was small, capturing a holistic view of the history between the 1960s and the 1980s is conside- bly more difficult. The HiNC2 conference attempted to help in this endeavor.

Medical imaging and medical image analysisare rapidly developing. While m- ical imaging has already become a standard of modern medical care, medical image analysis is still mostly performed visually and qualitatively. The ev- increasing volume of acquired data makes it impossible to utilize them in full. Equally important, the visual approaches to medical image analysis are known to su?er from a lack of reproducibility. A signi?cant researche?ort is devoted to developing algorithms for processing the wealth of data available and extracting the relevant information in a computerized and quantitative fashion. Medical imaging and image analysis are interdisciplinary areas combining electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering; computer science; mathem- ics; physics; statistics; biology; medicine; and other?elds. Medical imaging and computer vision, interestingly enough, have developed and continue developing somewhat independently. Nevertheless, bringing them together promises to b- e?t both of these?elds. We were enthusiastic when the organizers of the 2004 European Conference on Computer Vision (ECCV) allowed us to organize a satellite workshop devoted to medical image analysis.

Portfolio management in general is a widely spread and highly accepted topic in the management literature and in practice. Its origins go back to Markowitz and the early 1950s focussing financial assets. Soon, this concept was broadly applied to multiple economic disciplines such as strategic management, marketing, product management, resource management, real estate management, innovation management and many more. Numerous portfolio management approaches, instruments and tools have been developed and are applied in practice a well. This paper provides basics and an overview of product portfolio management covering theory and practice. Specific attention is paid to process oriented approaches. A number of publications identify a significant gap between practical needs and academic support when it comes to solving practitioners'problems especially in highly dynamic environments such as the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry. This paper intends to bridge this gap by outlining a pragmatic approach to product portfolio management with a focus on the specific needs of the ICT-industry without loosing connect to worthy findings of academic research. Still, this approach needs to be adjusted to the individual situation of company, however, suggested processes and tools allow for such customization.

For over a decade, Working Group 8 (Nursing) of the International Medical Informatics Association has sponsored, in conjunction with a host country, a triennial international symposium on nursing informatics. Each conference consists of a main conference and an invitational working conference following the main event. In 1991, the symposium was held in Melbourne, Australia and hosted by the Nursing Computer Group, Victoria and the Royal College of Nursing, Australia. Nine Pre-Conference workshops offered participants indepth exploration of a variety of information technology topics. The main conference attracted 700 participants from 19 countries and over 150 peer-reviewed papers. The invitational working conference was held at Whitehall in Sorrento, Victoria and involved the individual and collective work of 40 experts in nursing informatics from around the world. This group addressed the theme HEALTH CARE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: IMPLICATIONS FOR CHANGE. Health care organizations are faced with growing demand for information technology and must cope effectively with the processes and outcomes of its introduction. As the impact of information technology is felt both on the local and the global level, the conference selected for its theme a three tiered approach to information technology and organisational change - through the lens of society, the organization, and the individual. The conference was organized around three forms of contribution: plenary talks, working groups, and individual contributions by the participants. Part one of this book contains the papers of the plenary speakers for the conference.

Sincerely welcome to proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Trust and Privacy in Digital Business, Zaragoza, Spain, held from August 30th to September 1st, 2004. This conference was an outgrowth of the two successful TrustBus inter- tional workshops, held in 2002 and 2003 in conjunction with the DEXA conferences in Aix-en-Provence and in Prague. Being the first of a planned series of successful conferences it was our goal that this event would initiate a forum to bring together researchers from academia and commercial developers from industry to discuss the state of the art of technology for establishing trust and privacy in digital business. We thank you all the attendees for coming to Zaragoza to participate and debate the new emerging advances in this area. The conference program consisted of one invited talk and nine regular technical papers sessions. The invited talk and keynote speech was delivered by Ahmed Patel from the Computer Networks and Distributed Systems Research Group, University College Dublin, Ireland on “Developing Secure, Trusted and Auditable Services for E-Business: An Autonomic Computing Approach”. A paper covering his talk is also contained in this book. The regular paper sessions covered a broad range of topics, from access control - sues to electronic voting, from trust and protocols to digital rights management. The conference attracted close to 100 submissions of which the program committee - cepted 29 papers for presentation and inclusion in the conference proceedings.

In recent years, IT application scenarios have evolved in very innovative ways. Highly distributed networks have now become a common platform for large-scale distributed programming, high bandwidth communications are inexpensive and widespread, and most of our work tools are equipped with processors enabling us to perform a multitude of tasks. In addition, mobile computing (referring specifically to wireless devices and, more broadly, to dynamically configured systems) has made it possible to exploit interaction in novel ways. To harness the flexibility and power of these rapidly evolving, interactive systems, there is need of radically new foundational ideas and principles; there is need to develop the theoretical foundations required to design these systems and to cope with the many complex issues involved in their construction; and there is need to develop effective principles for building and analyzing such systems. Reflecting the diverse and wide spectrum of topics and interests within the theoretical computer science community, Exploring New Frontiers of Theoretical Informatics, is presented in two distinct but interrelated tracks: -Algorithms, Complexity and Models of Computation, -Logic, Semantics, Specification and Verification. Exploring New Frontiers of Theoretical Informatics contains 46 original and significant contributions addressing these foundational questions, as well as 4 papers by outstanding invited speakers. These papers were presented at the 3rd IFIP International Conference on Theoretical Computer Science (TCS 2004), which was held in conjunction with the 18th World Computer Congress in Toulouse, France in August 2004 and sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).

Blockchains are seen as a technology for the future, which reduce the cost of trust and revolutionize transactions between individuals, companies and governments. The sense of using blockchains is to minimize the probability of errors, successful frauds and paper-intensive processes. For these reasons, blockchains already have and will have a significant impact to the society and every day's life, especially in field of Machine to Machine (M2M) communications, which are one of the basic technologies for Internet of Things (IoT). Therefore, blockchains with their inherent property to provide security, privacy and decentralized operation are engine for todays and future reliable, autonomous and trusted IoT platforms. Next-generation distributed applications and systems are increasingly developed using middleware. This dependency poses hard R&D challenges, including - tency hiding, masking partial failure, information assurance and security, legacy integration, dynamic service partitioning and load balancing, and end-to-end quality of service speci?cation and enforcement. To address these challenges, researchers and practitioners must discover and validate techniques, patterns, and optimizations for middleware frameworks, multi-level distributed resource management, and adaptive and re?ective middleware architectures. Following the success of the past IFIP/ACM Middleware conferences (Lake District/UK, Palisades/USA, and Heidelberg/Germany) and building upon the success of past USENIX COOTS conferences, the Middleware 2003 conference is the premier international event for middleware research and technology. The scope of the conference is the design, implementation, deployment, and eval- tion of distributed system platforms, architectures, and applications for future computing and communication environments. This year, we had a record of 158 submissions, among which the top 25 - pers were selected for inclusion in the technical program of the conference. All papers were evaluated by at least three reviewers with respect to their origin- ity,technicalmerit,presentationquality,andrelevancetotheconferencethemes. The selected papers present the latest results and breakthroughs on middleware research in areas including peer-to-peer computing, publish-subscriber archit- tures, component- and Web-based middleware, mobile systems, and adaptive computing.

The enormous global demand for smartphones in recent years has created a new global tech cycle. In 2016 alone, global smartphone sales reached close to 1.5 billion, one for every fifth person on earth. In turn, this has engendered complex and evolving supply chains across Asia. We show that the new tech cycle cannot be captured by standard seasonality, but depends on smartphone product release dates. Decomposing cycle from trend, we also show that the sale of smartphones may have peaked in late 2015. Asia, however, continues to gain in importance as the global tech manufacturer.

Cybercafés play a key role in providing internet access to developing countries. This paper examines the challenges of internet connectivity in rural and remote areas and how cybercafés now serve as a model behind government efforts to set up telecenters to extend internet connectivity to rural communities.
