This paper examines the key socioeconomic and cultural-demographic factors that determine rural women's labour contributions in agriculture in India, both on family farms (either as cultivators or as family labour) and as agricultural wage labourer. Based on the analysis of primary data derived from a survey of 800 households from the two Indian states of Gujarat and West Bengal, it establishes that women's work in the farm sector cannot be homogenized. Women's work as additional hands in family farms differs from that as wage labourers which is casual in nature; their work also differs across different regions. In the commercialized, relatively more developed state of Gujarat, women's labour contributions are significantly different from West Bengal's less commercialized agrarian economy. It is known that social media is one of the largest sources of unstructured data. Analyzing that data and harvesting meaning out of that is a tedious job. Recently opinion mining has become an emerging topic due to the vast amount of opinioned data available on the various social networking sites. Microblogging has appeared relatively recently, and twitter is the most popular microblogging sites used by the people. It is one of the biggest free, open data-source. In the world today, twitter often witnesses a lot of opinions. Opinion mining and sentiment analysis help researchers to gain insight into public emotions. In this paper, Twitter is used as a source of opinioned data. Twitter APIs are used for the collection of tweets. In this paper, R is used for the acquisition, pre- processing, analyzing the tweets, then sentiment analysis is performed based on the different approaches. In this paper, Tweets were collected from the period of Jan 2019 to March 2019. Using that tweets, sentiment analysis was performed to gain the opinion polarity of the folks concerning general elections held in India. Two candidates were considered for this study: Candidate-1 and Candidate-2. It was concluded that Candidate-1 is more liked and is famous as compared to Candidate-2. Background, Motivation, and Objective – Inculcating critical thinking, teamwork, and lifelong learning are the basic tenets of Outcome Based Engineering Education (OBEE). Collaborative learning is one such pedagogy of engagement to achieve the same. In addition, the implementation of OBEE demands the adoption of corporate best practices in deploying new initiatives, which streamlines the process, removes waste in the process, and ensures sustainment of the improved process. Lean Thinking is one such approach adopted by the industry to ensure productivity, performance, and sustainment of new initiatives. The objective of this paper is to study the scope of collaborative learning in OBEE based on the Lean Thinking approach, and to explore its successful deployment in Indian higher education. Statement of Contribution/Methods – The research reported in this paper is based on Action Research methodology carried out using the Lean Thinking PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) approach and its application in improving OBEE through collaborative learning in India. STAD (Student-Teams-Achievement-Division) collaborative learning was deployed through heterogeneous group formation for enhancing the teaching-learning process. The Indo-Universal Collaboration on Engineering Education (IUCEE) consortium knowledge base and assistance has been effectively used to chalk out the strategy for effective deployment. Basic statistics and outlier analysis is used to draw the inferences. Results, Discussion, and Conclusions – The study describes the effective deployment of collaborative learning to enhance the effectiveness of the OBEE ecosystem through students' performance by utilizing the power of Lean Thinking. The study shows that not only Turn-Around-Time (TAT) of the deployment process is enhanced, but also the attainment of the students' performance. Moreover, it improves team spirit and team performance during the process. The paper is based on a single case study executed in an engineering college and hence, there is limitation in generalizing the specific results from the study. But the approach adopted and the learning from this study can be generalized. The study is of use to academicians, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers seeking to implement collaborative learning for an OBEE set- up with optimal utilization of the available resources based on the Lean Thinking platform in their organizations. This approach ensures value-added activity throughout the process and effective utilization of industrial best practices to higher education. Although collaborative learning and Lean Thinking have been extremely successful in the education sector and the corporate sector, respectively, the application of both to the engineering education has been limited. In addition, it describes the end-to-end implementation strategy of OBEE starting from planning, execution, meticulous assessment, and sustainment of the improved process in a step-by-step approach. In India, around 1.5 million engineers graduate every year from various colleges and universities but 80 percent of them do not have the skills required to get employed. If they do, only 3% of them have the skills. Some of the reasons for this are student's attitude towards learning and teacher's attitude towards teaching. This leads to problems such as lack of student's attendance, lack of student's attention in the classroom, high failure rates, marks conflict between teacher and students, students unable to excel in the placement interviews, etc. However, it is the responsibility of the colleges/institutions to provide necessary tools/trainings to the teacher and the students so that the above problems could be solved without compromising the quality of the education. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to develop a teaching-learning framework which addresses the above problems. In the teaching-learning framework, several teaching pedagogies are introduced. In this paper, 16 different teaching pedagogies are used in various classrooms of undergraduate and graduate programs. The teacher should use different teaching-learning methodology (not same methodology) in a classroom to enable the maximum learning. Based on the past seven years (2011-2018) of handling undergraduate (2135 students) and graduate (340 students) in a total of 60 courses data, five teaching-learning methodologies are proposed. Hybrid renewable based power generation has emerged as a major breakthrough in electrical power system due to their capability of providing competitive and carbon free electricity to the consumer. This paper presents techno-economic analysis of a grid connected solar photovoltaic-fuel cell based hybrid energy system to supply the electrical load demands of a small shopping complex located at the University campus in India. The proposed system has been designed by considering the cost of energy purchase and sold to the utility grid and further ensuring the smooth power flow management between elements of the system and the utility grid. A simplified mathematical modeling of the proposed hybrid energy system, including power and hydrogen management has been presented to access the potential of hydrogen based energy systems. Component sizing to optimize the net present cost of the proposed system has been performed employing three meta-heuristic algorithms, i.e. , artificial bee colony, particle swarm optimization and a hybrid of both. The experimental results obtained from three algorithms have been compared in terms of cost effectiveness of the system. The hybrid system has been designed to cater the total electricity demand of 135 M W h / y r of a small community center. It has emerged from the simulation results that the total electricity demand could be met with a 106 k W solar photovoltaic, 8 k W fuel cell, 45 k W electrolyzer and a 150 k g of hydrogen tank. The proposed grid connected system has 30 k W grid purchase and 25 k W grid sale capacities, respectively. In this paper, grid sale and purchase capacities have been considered as a decision variable along with other system component sizing. Loss of power supply probability is minimized along with objective function i.e., levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) using the exterior penalty method. It is evident from the results that the proposed system is economically viable with a LCOE of 0.104 $ / k W h. It has emerged from the results that the proposed hybrid energy system may be helpful to promote hydrogen and solar based energy system to reduce the reliance on the overburden grid, particularly, in developing countries. In the past few decades, many urban areas around the world have suffered from severe air pollution and the health hazards that come with it, making gathering real-time air quality and air quality forecasting very important to take preventive and corrective measures. This paper proposes a scalable architecture to monitor and gather real-time air pollutant concentration data from various places and to use this data to forecast future air pollutant concentrations. Two sources are used to collect air quality data. The first being a wireless sensor network that gathers and sends pollutant concentrations to a server, with its sensor nodes deployed in various locations in Bengaluru city in South India. The second source is the real-time air quality data gathered and made available by the Government of India as a part of its Open Data initiative. Both sources provide average concentrations of various air pollutants on an hourly basis. Due to its proven track record of success with time-series data, a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) model was chosen to perform the task of air quality forecasting. This paper critically analyses the performance of the model in two regions that exhibit a significant difference in temporal variations in air quality. • Weather and climate services (WCS) for farmers in India and Norway reveal similar governance challenges related to format, relevance, and tailoring of knowledge communicated. • A 'most different case study' comparison underscores that WCS remain supply-driven. • More deliberate approaches to institutional design is suggested to foster co-creation and improved engagement of farmers and extension agents in developing the services. • Active use of social media, such as crop-based WhatsApp groups, can facilitate integration between external science-based knowledge/models and local practice and learning. High-quality weather and climate services (WCS) can be critical for communicating knowledge about current and future weather and climate risks for adaptation and disaster risk management in the agricultural sector. This paper investigates the structure and performance of weather and climate services for farmers from a governance perspective. Empirically the paper compares the institutional design and operations of agro-meteorological services in Maharashtra/India and Norway through a 'most different case study' approach. The two cases were selected to represent great diversity in location, scale and institutional design. A governance approach based on semi-direct interviews and policy and institutional analysis was combined with local survey data of farmers' perceptions and use of the services. Despite the fact that the context for the two agromet advisory services was very different from a climate-weather, eco-agriculture and socio-institutional angle, the analysis reveals great similarities in the services structures and critical governance challenges. In both countries the agromet services communicated knowledge that was largely perceived not to be well tailored to farmers' needs for decisions in specific crops- and farm operations, spatially too coarse to address local issues, and, often unreliable or inaccurate in terms of the quality of data. Farmers did, however, respond positively to specific and locally relevant information on e.g., warnings about high rainfall and spread of pests. Observing such similarities across very diverse contexts enhances the generalization potential, precisely because they evolved under very different circumstances. Similar observations find support in the wider WCS literature. Based on the empirical findings, we propose a more deliberate approach to institutional design of WCS in order to enhance governance performance and co-creation of the services at local, district and national scales. It is suggested that greater participation of farmers and agricultural extension agents in the co-creation of these services is a necessary means of improving the services, supported by the WCS literature. However, we insist that greater participation is only likely to materialize if the deficiencies in institutional design and knowledge quality and relevance are addressed to greater extent than done today. The comparison between the two services shows that Norway can learn from India that a more ambitious scope and multiple forms of communication, including the use of social media/WhatsApp groups, can facilitate greater awareness and interest among farmers in multi-purpose agromet services for multi-way communication. India can learn from Norway that a more integrated and decentralized institutional design can strengthen the network attributes of the services, foster co-creation, and improve participation of both poor and large-scale farmers and extension agents. In the global South, agricultural cooperatives are increasingly promoted as part of participatory rural development strategies and means for the enhancement of women's economic and social empowerment. But in cooperative decision making and the acquisition of leadership positions women are often marginalized. It has been argued that women-only groups may help to counter this problem. They may increase women's active participation and, thereby, increase the benefits of cooperative membership. This paper reviews relevant literature and studies the effect of gender homogeneity on women's active participation. We apply a Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) to a sample of ten Indian village-level dairy cooperatives. The results from our comparative case study confirm that gender homogeneity is not a sufficient means to ensure active participation. It is only in combination with other factors, that women-only groups can enhance women's participation. India's rapid urbanisation and biodiversity decline together have critical global implications in the Anthropocene. However, the complex socio-religious dimensions of urban biodiversity are overlooked in current planning. This paper casts animals as vital components of urban societies in India to argue for species-inclusive zoöpolises as viable cities of the future. It proposes 'posthuman cosmopolitanism' as a planning ethic that extends pluralism to multispecies in the Anthropocene, cognisant of the socio-cultural and religious frames in which animals are enmeshed in India. These narratives have significant implications in the Kali Yuga or the apocalyptic cosmological epoch, which Hindus believe is currently underway. Akin to the Anthropocene, human action bears an exceptional significance in the events of the Kali Yuga, which is believed to be a precursor to human, ecological, and even planetary annihilation. The paper examines human-snake conflict, one of the most widespread human-animal encounters in Indian cities. Snakes play vital roles in urban ecologies and religio-cultural narratives in India. Simultaneously, religious and social perceptions of serpents contribute to a fear of snakes. Fundamental to snake preservation in the Indian urban Anthropocene is an expansion of diversity to 'multinatural diversity', and a reconfiguration of human-snake relations in socio-cultural frames. Since the 2000 s the demand for sand has proliferated at the coastal-land interface to fill up the increasing demand straining Blue Economy (BE) activities and provision of water-energy-food resources. Recent studies have revealed that increased sand mining in both coastal and freshwater zones has continued to impact livelihood-ecological systems threatening the provision of livelihood goods and services. These impacts are exacerbated by a lack of comprehensive frameworks to regulate sand mining and trade; creating the need to develop micro and macro-frameworks and guidelines for sustainable sand mining. This paper uses a non-systematic literature review approach to build on this gap to develop an understanding of the resource nexus perspectives and trade-offs due to sand mining. The paper proposes a novel framework based on the Ecosystem Service Assessment advanced from the review of the literature to guide risk assessments toward more sustainable sand mining. In order to add evidence, the paper analyses in-depth the state of Kerala - one of India's coastal states that has experienced unprecedented rates of sand mining since the 1990 s especially along the Chavara coast albeit with less research on the intersectionality of mining on the resource nexus. Both the framework and our case study highlight how sand mining stresses local ecosystems and livelihoods thus increasing vulnerability to both human and environmental impacts. The paper brings to the fore seven (7) key steps that local institutions can use to guide sustainable sand mining and build integrated governance systems that promote interaction among natural capitals in a given area and livelihood considerations. The article further documents that the use of coherent guidelines and the framework can help in amalgamating the various actors in a given system that can guide local participation in local resource management and the development of cooperative agreements for the sustainable utilization of resources among coastal communities. Lutetium-177 radio-pharmaceutical has become an important theranostic candidate in cancer treatment. Its availability from bench-to-bed requires strategic implementation of isotope-enrichment, neutron-irradiation and radio-chemical techniques. In this paper, the need for enrichment of lutetium-176 is emphasized by estimating specific activity of lutetium-177 as a function of enrichment percentage for typical neutron flux available at Dhruva reactor, India. A novel Atomic Vapour Laser Isotope Separation (AVLIS) module for lutetium-176 enrichment is designed to meet the above requirement. The paper documents its characteristics and production estimates. The design is carried out after critical assessment and evaluation of available AVLIS-infrastructure in the country. Outline of lutetium-177 enrichment, capable of producing non-carrier-added lutetium is also provided. • Racial and extractive capitalism intersect with devastating effects in India. • Exploitation occurs via the extraction of land and labour under discriminatory laws. • Racial and extractive capitalism are distinctly gendered. • The idea of racial capitalism correlates with caste and tribal oppression. • Extractive and racial capitalism are enabled through humiliation and disgust. • Adivasi and Dalit resistance to humiliation and extractivism provide hope. While the Government of India has made numerous statements about its 'green' credentials, extractive capitalism continues at an escalating pace across the country under increasingly brutal authoritarianism. This paper provides a case study of extractive capitalism in Adivasi and Dalit communities in Birbhum, West Bengal, in an area dominated by stone crusher industries. Through this example, this article argues that extractive capitalism combines with racial capitalism, resulting in devastating consequences in modern India. These effects can be seen in the concurrent violence enacted against Adivasi and Dalit land and labour under a law which is discriminatory and disciplinary. Drawing on Dalit feminist literature and the work of scholars on caste and racial capitalism, this paper illustrates that exploitation can only occur through mainstream disgust for Adivasis and Dalits – attempting to extract not only from their land, but from their bodies also. Yet these findings show that Adivasis and Dalits also clearly demonstrate resistance to psychological subjugation. Applying artificial intelligence in education is relevant to addressing the current educational crises. Many available solutions apply Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to help improve educational outcomes. Therefore, a series of works have been developed integrating techniques in different educational contexts, for instance, in online teaching practices. Given the various studies and the relevance of CNNs for educational applications, this paper presents a systematic literature review to discuss the state-of-the-art. We reviewed 133 papers from the IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, and Scopus databases. Based on our revision, we discuss characteristics of studies such as publication venues, educational context, datasets, types of CNNs models, and performance of models. We evidence that the literature regarding CNNs still misses more studies discussing educational problems faced by Global South students, considering both teaching and learning perspectives. Technological advancements can accelerate the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, technology adoption is associated with complex, interrelated factors, even more so in the context of rural areas in emerging economies. We examine the adoption of one technology that can be crucial for resolving water scarcity issues facing countries around the world–the Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) technology and the critical success factors (CSFs) that promote its adoption in rural India. Building on an extensive literature review, focus group discussions, and field visits, this paper identifies a list of factors that promote its adoption. To derive the CSFs, the relevance of each factor is analysed using Fuzzy-Delphi, and the significance is determined using D-DEMATEL technique. The novel results presented here suggest that awareness about RWH technologies, their perceived usefulness, ease of use, and tax incentives for companies are some crucial factors that can increase RWH technology adoption. Furthermore, community-based workshops explaining the architecture and operational aspects of the RWH System as well as simplifying the RWH system architecture can accelerate its usage in rural areas. This paper discusses the present scenario of automation activities of university libraries in Kerala. The survey findings mainly cover various aspects of library automation such as information technology infrastructure, in-house activities, information services and their usage, manpower development, and budget. The present universal energy framework and expenditure rate are considerably more startling because of the massive increase in electrical power demand. Comprehensive generation through conventional fossil fuels is one of the fundamental causes and contributors to several environmental problems. Therefore, there has arisen a necessity for ecologically sound and sustainable alternative energy sources. Renewable energy resources (RER) may be extremely functional for environmental and economic goals. Solar energy is the most auspicious of RER and this industry has flourished enormously during the last decade. Photovoltaic cells are spreading in popularity because they are sustainable, clean, and efficient modes of power generation. Researchers are endeavoring meticulously to select superior photovoltaic materials. In this paper, a real-time multi-objective solar-thermal power dispatch problem is framed and optimized for two different photovoltaic materials by using the novel α- constrained simplex method (ACSM). The presented problem is developed to satisfy cost and environmental objectives for Tirumala in the Andhra Pradesh state of India, for two test systems. In the first test system, polycrystalline silicon is used as the photovoltaic material, whereas Copper Indium Gallium Selenide is employed in the second test system. The results of both test systems are compared with each other to procure the finer material. Also, the outturns attained by using ACSM are collated with particle swarm optimization (PSO) and the evolutionary method (EM). The results reveal the precedence of ACSM over PSO and EM. Greenhouse gas emissions and PM2.5 pollution from vehicular exhausts and the consequent negative externalities underline the urgency of investigating low-carbon pathways for the freight sector. This paper undertakes a comprehensive analysis to determine the implications of a modal shift in the freight sector for the environment, energy systems and the economy. Stakeholder consultations are used to develop the qualitative narratives that are further used to set the parameters in energy-economy optimization models for deriving quantitative pathways. Our analysis includes four scenarios: Current Policy (CPS), Road Focused (FROAD), Rail Technology (TRAIL) and Harmonized Multimodal (HMML). The HMML scenario follows a balanced approach harmonizing the twin goals of reducing imported fuels and carbon emissions that can simultaneously assist in achieving development and decarbonization targets. Our results show that the HMML scenario based on the multimodal approach of creating a level playing field for all modes can reduce fossil fuel imports by 87.6% and CO 2 emissions by 96%, relative to CPS in 2050. The HMML scenario also envisages significant macroeconomic benefits – the cost of logistics as a percentage of GDP falls to 11%, and there are cumulative foreign exchange savings of 3.8 trillion USD from 2016 to 2050. However, electrification, the leading technology for the respective decarbonizing modes, will need policies that enhance research and innovation on batteries and infrastructure investments for charging along national and state highways. • Debt as a material transaction, a power relation and a lived experienced. • Debt bondage results from chronic debt, not employment scarcity. • Market debt and interpersonal debts may feed each other rather than substitute. • Debt as exploitation but also protection and emancipation. • Market debts may promote emancipation when they are articulated and subordinated to other forms of interdependence, which ensure the protection and recognition of debtors, and some form of equality. This paper proposes the concept of the 'socio-economy of debt' to explore the ambivalence of debt, its multiple facets and its capacity to exploit, protect or emancipate. This socio-economy of debt conceives of debt as a material transaction (defined in terms of prices, modalities of repayment, and collaterals), as well as a power relationship (inseparable from an overall set of interdependencies, protection and social differentiation) and as a social and moral experience (imbued with subjectivities, felt-obligations and also aspirations). This framework sheds a new light on the issue of "debt bondage", applied to seasonal migrants from South-India. These workers are tied to their employer through a wage advance while enjoying widened access to market debts. Paradoxically, such widened choice has reinforced their dependence on their employers and other forms of interpersonal debt. These various forms of debt, both market and interpersonal, bring about various forms of exploitation, and the dispossession of time and bodies. But these debts equally allow those workers to break with the past and imagine a new future, partially liberated not from caste hierarchies but from their local forms of expression. They offer a source of hope, confidence and courage to act. It also allows some debtors to make investments and improve their lives. Retiring coal plants as part of a decarbonization strategy has started to become a reality in the last five years and is reflected in the least-cost plans of many countries. However, major issues go beyond the scope of such planning, including commercial contracts, markets and asset stranding. This paper proposes a new model formulation that endogenously calculates stranded assets taking into consideration commercial and market issues. It can be used to develop insights into economic and financial issues surrounding stranded costs of coal retirement. An illustrative example around the existing 209 GW coal fleet, including an aging part of the coal fleet of 100 GW, in India is used to show how the model can be implemented with relative ease. A second case study is constructed for the Philippines, which has a much younger and uniform coal fleet. The paper examines the dynamics of rural electrification in India and explores the transition to a complementary convergence of decentralised and centralised electricity systems for sustainable rural electricity services. A novel socio-technical framework of analysis for assessment of cases of rural electricity systems is developed and applied in Indian villages to explore the interplays of different elements of rural electricity systems, enabling and hindering factors, and actors and institutions that affect the governance and sustenance of rural electrification. A mixed research method, along with document analysis, was applied to study the socio-technical perspectives, using 21 indicators representing nine different interplays of elements of rural electricity systems. The analysis reveals there is a significant effect of governance on technology performance, which in turn affects customer practices. There is also a significant correlation between customer practices and governance. Policy enablers along with strong institutions and actors - both at the subnational and local level - are key drivers to effective governance. Furthermore, irrespective of centralised or decentralised technology, adequacy and reliability of electricity supply and effective customer service delivery at the local level are important i.e., both supply reliability and quality, and customer service quality are equally important. Besides, stability aspect and its importance are revisited from simulations and experimental observations. Important identified areas requiring future research and development to recognize more technically feasible solar pond-based systems include organic Rankine cycle for electrical power production, crop drying, building cooling and air-conditioning based on absorption systems, thermoelectric cooling, and integration of solar ponds with other renewable energy resources. Cycads are used mainly as source of food starch and in traditional medicine in Asia, Americas, Australia, Sub-Saharan Africa and some Pacific islands by the local communities. Of the 118 known species of the Cycas (Cycadaceae), Cycas sphaerica Roxb. is an endemic species of the Eastern Ghats of India having considerable ethno-botanical, nutritional and medicinal importance. The present paper reports for the first time the nutritional and anti-nutritional properties, physical and functional attributes and chemical constituents of C. sphaerica seed flour. Results of the present study revealed that the flour is rich source of carbohydrate (66.48 g/100 g), protein (16.8 g/100 g), fat (3.61 g/100 g), fibre (2.79 g/100 g), ash (2.32 g/100 g), essential amino acids (methionine: 0.37 g/100 g; threonine: 0.50 g/100 g; leucine: 0.92 g/100 g), non-essential amino acids (cystine: 1.39 g/100 g; serine:0.73 g/100 g; alanine: 0.77 g/100 g) and vitamin C (32.6 mg/100 g). Besides, it is a rich in potassium (10310 mg/100 g), magnesium (1260 mg/100 g), iron (15.67 mg/100 g) and manganese (3.61 mg/100 g). Antinutrients such as phytate, oxalate and tannin were detected within the safe dietary limits. The seed flour had good water and oil absorption capacities. The metabolite profiling of seed flour by GCQ-MS identified a total of 20 phytochemicals, out of which 3-O-methyl-D-glucose, ethyl α-D-glucopyranoside and cis-vaccenic acid were the most dominant components. The seed flour extract exhibited moderate antioxidant potential due to the presence of certain phenolics and flavonoids. Based on the present findings, it can be concluded that C. sphaerica seed flour has high nutritional value and may be used as a food supplement and nutraceutical. The identified phytoconstituents may serve as source compounds for pharmaceutical applications. Stone tools in association with Pleistocene elephant remains were recovered from Pampore, Kashmir, India, in 2000 from channel deposits in the Pampore Member of the Upper Karewa Group of sediments, which are interpreted as Middle Pleistocene in age. In March 2019 the elephant remains were re-examined to establish taxonomy, cause of death and evidence of human intervention, alongside study of the stone tools and age of the site. This paper reports the results of this work. Most of the elephant remains, including skull and tusks, are from a large adult, but at least two other elephants are also represented. Taxonomic analysis shows that the adult belongs to the genus Palaeoloxodon , but with a mix of features not seen in typical Palaeoloxodon skulls from the Indian Subcontinent. Pathology of the skull indicates severe sinusitis, which may have contributed to the death. No cut-marks from butchery were found on the elephant bones, although three elephant bone flakes were identified, linking human intervention with elephants at the site. The small lithic assemblage is in fresh condition with some refitting artefacts, both suggesting minimal post-depositional movement. Most of the artefacts consist of flakes, flake tools and cores, but with several points and blades suggestive of an early Mode 3 prepared core technology. This might indicate a late Middle Pleistocene age for the site. Further dating evidence using amino acid racemisation on elephant tooth enamel is ongoing, but consistent with this age. The association of stone tools with humanly-modified elephant remains is rare, while prepared core technology is currently scarce further north or east in Asia in the late Middle Pleistocene. Air pollution control has emerged as one of the key concerns of recent times and business firms are one of the significant stakeholders in deteriorating the quality of the natural environment. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the factors affecting the adoption of air pollution control measures across firms and contribute to the existing knowledge on pollution control among firms in the context of an emerging market. The analysis shows a significant association between enterprise characteristics and the adoption of air pollution control measures and about 44.3 percent firms have reported the adoption of air pollution control measures. Further, the marginal effect analysis indicates that firms older in age, larger in size and having shareholders' equity are more likely to adopt air pollution control measures. Similarly, firms practising lean operations, investing in research & development, availing bank credit, having quality certification and having better capacity utilisation are more likely to adopt air pollution control measures. Finally, firms perceiving obstacles related to business licensing & permits, tax administration, political instability, and business closure due to COVID-19 outbreak are more likely to adopt air pollution control measures. Our study provides useful implications for managers, policymakers and researchers for encouraging air pollution control technologies across business firms. • India is a least likely case for welfare expansion, challenges dominant explanations and offers a new case. • Welfare expansion accompanied by deepening of democratic state is a legacy of civil society mobilization. • State-civil society dynamics can converge into sustained patterns of both policy and institutional transformation and defending the reforms against political attacks. In the past two decades India experienced an unprecedented expansion of the rights-based welfare. This expansion cut across a range of sectors − education, employment, public health, poverty reduction − but was also accompanied by a dramatic expansion and deepening of state institutions and a shift from patronage politics to citizen empowerment. In this paper we show that India was a least likely case for welfare expansion and that contrary to what the traditional welfare state literature suggests, civil society was a key driver of reform, but even more vitally has played a significant role in institutionalizing reforms, especially at the local level. We focus on the case of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, the world's largest public works program, to discuss how civil society in India effectively framed welfare issues, mobilized to defend the law, helped institutionalize new governance structures like social audits by working with the state and are ensuring continuous accountability by cultivating what we call "user publics". We draw on the existing literature, fieldwork on village level welfare reform in different subnational regions of India, direct involvement in civil mobilization around rights based laws for over a decade and an ongoing project in which we are collaborating with some of the key architects of the reforms including an archive of over 3000 primary documents. This paper presents the effect of ventilation parameters on the 222Rn inhalation dose in an underground uranium mine located in east Singhbhum of Jharkhand, India. This study reveals that the airflow rate variable statistically significantly predicts the 222Rn dose variable in the mine. On the other hand, no significant effect of other ventilation parameters such as barometric pressure, dry-bulb, and wet-bulb temperatures on 222Rn inhalation dose in the stopes was observed due to negligible variations in their values. Therefore, the airflow rate plays a significant role in reducing the effective radiation dose level in mines. In this study, the Equivalent Equilibrium Radon concentration (EER) and total effective radiation dose received by the miners involved in different mining activities in the various locations of the mine were found to be in ranges of 130–420 Bq m−3 and 0–3.17 mSv y−1, respectively. It also reveals that the miners involved in the stope preparation and timbering were exposed to more radiation than other mining activities. • Evolution of innovative agricultural credit policies to solve the problem of farmer indebtedness continue to be shaped by a consistent narrative of eliminating informal lending. • Informal lending is a barrier to capitalist accumulation. • State policy to eliminate informality perpetuates a class struggle over farmer surplus. Debt is fundamental to agrarian life across the world. In India, over half of agricultural households are indebted and borrow from myriad credit sources. Formal institutional credit (e.g., bank loans) has historically, and up to the present day, been proposed as a tool for rural development and to eliminate exploitative informal moneylenders. This is true in India, where despite decades of state policies to displace informal lending using formal credit, informal lending persists and increasing debt is an ever-present symptom of the agrarian crisis. Informal lending made up 30% of farmers' credit sources in 2019; for farmers who owned less than 0.01 ha of land, this was 71.8%. In this paper we provide an historical examination of the numerous state responses to the proliferation of agrarian debt, surveying lending policy as a state development tool in India. We analyze how moneylending has been treated in different historical periods and the increasing participation of the state (from colonial to present times) in agrarian debt and use a Narrative Policy Analysis to synthesize the underlying "narratives" that characterize evolving policy forms. In the process, we reveal not only a consistent narrative assuming the displacement of informal credit with formal credit, one contradicted by the situation on the ground: an absolute increasing trend in borrowing, and a crucial propagation of the number and variety of credit sources. This we observe to be precisely a result of the largely fruitless state effort to formalize credit and to eliminate informal lending. This persistent discourse that posits formality as a solution to informality, we further conclude, is not only a cultural project of the colonial, post-colonial, and modernization state, but one essential for the circulation and accumulation of capital, enhancing its urgency. The failed effort to eliminate informal lending has resulted, furthermore, in a decline in farmer autonomy and the creation of a state-underwritten struggle − between multiple actors in the credit sector − over the redistribution of agrarian surplus. India's power sector is transforming rapidly, marked by rising demand and a growing share of renewables. The short-term power market provides option for power distribution utilities to meet demand exigency. The paper presents trends and perspectives of short-term electricity trading of select states of India. Market transactions reflect seasonal demand variations, higher during summer-monsoon months, dipping in winters. Analysis of data highlights substantial share of short-term power in the total procurement. Quantum of power traded correlates inversely with operational performance of thermal plants as well as grid share of renewable energy. Suggested policy measures include honing of demand forecasting skills using advanced metering infrastructure, deploying energy storage technologies, including decentralized solar, ensuring sustained supply of coal and preventive maintenance of thermal power plants, initiating seasonal procurement contracts with merchant power plants, encouraging power banking arrangements and including storage component in solar and wind tenders. A robust mathematical model is presented in this paper for the multi-connected domain with variable bathymetry using dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) to analyze the combined effects of wave diffraction-refraction and reflection on the arbitrarily shaped harbor. The influence of sloping bathymetry and the impact of the bottom friction on the harbor resonance are investigated. The fluid domain is primarily separated into two regions Region-I (open sea region) and Region-II (harbor region). Further, Region-II is divided into multi-connected regions. The mild slope equation is rearranged to obtain the non-homogeneous Helmholtz equation, and utilizing the ordinary boundary element method to this non-homogeneous equation, the non-homogeneous part will convert into a domain integral. The present model is verified by comparing it with the analytical examination of Wang et al.2015; Shao et al.2017. The wave amplification is determined for the T-shaped and TT-shaped domains to analyze the influence of bottom friction, and slopping bathymetry. • Youth transitioning from child care institutions face a lack of adequate transition planning, aftercare infrastructure, and service availability. • An educative mentorship-based curriculum can facilitate a smooth and effective transition. • Mentoring focused on both well-being and professional development can reduce the stress associated with the transition. Although child protection policies and laws in India recognise the importance of aftercare, there is still a significant lack of infrastructure, available services, and systematic preparation for the transition. The accelerated and compressed journey from adolescence to adulthood, coupled with limited options to return home if their initial endeavours falter, adds to the complexity of the transition process. To develop knowledge and skills for transition preparedness, this paper presents a step-by-step approach to designing an educative, mentorship-based curriculum. The curriculum is based on an exploratory study conducted across 17 child care institutions in Pune, India. Findings showed that the adolescents appreciate the existing support resources, but feel that much of the critical, practical, and seemingly more urgent transitional needs are still left out. Borrowing insights from the primary data and the available literature, the curriculum has been designed to target six core areas addressing needs for belongingness, preparation for life after transition, enabling clarity of future vision, life skills, enhancing employability, and problem-solving. To buffer the overall stress of the transition, the focus of the curriculum has been kept simultaneously on promoting overall well-being and providing professional and career development support. Diffusion-absorption refrigeration (DAR) is a cooling technology that uses a three-component working fluid and a thermally-activated bubble-pump for fluid circulation. DAR cooling modules can be manufactured at low cost and entirely driven by thermal energy, making this a promising technology for cold-chain services in off-grid regions. In this work, we investigate the performance potential of an ammonia-water-hydrogen solar-DAR system for application in rural India. In Part I of the investigation, a semi-empirical system model is developed that considers both the steady-state operation of the DAR system and dynamic behaviour during start-up with a solar-thermal heat source. The model is calibrated using experimental data from a laboratory DAR system where heat input rate and system charge pressure are variables that can be adjusted. Under steady-state conditions, the system achieves a maximum coefficient of performance (COP) of 0.25 with a system pressure of 14 bar. However, at the minimum heat input rate of 100 W the system can take up to 2 h or longer for bubble pump activation, prior to which no cooling is produced. The diffusion-absorption refrigerator (DAR) is a cooling technology that can be driven entirely by thermal energy. With solar-thermal collectors as the heat source, this technology can provide a zero-emissions solution for essential cold-chain provision in the world's poorest regions. In the accompanying paper, a system model of a solar-driven DAR system was developed for simulating operation under variable solar conditions. In Part II of this study, we apply this model to assess the predicted performance of the system in its intended application: for on-farm refrigeration of harvested crops in rural India. The roles of the working-fluid charge pressure and collector array area for maximum cooling are investigated. A charge pressure of 16 bar is found to be optimal for ambient conditions during the October harvest season in Ahmedabad, with a collector-array area of 1.5 m2 found to be most appropriate for the nominal 70 W cooling-capacity system. However, the time taken to reach the required solar collector temperature for bubble pump activation results in a daily operating period of less than 5 h and a predicted overall solar-to-cooling efficiency of less than 1%. Limestone of the purity mandated by the standards for use in cement manufacture (as raw material or as performance improver) is only a fraction of the mined material. Sometimes, limestone contains impurities like silica, clay, dolomite etc. beyond the levels specified for use as an additive or for cement production. This limestone, commonly known as low-grade limestone, also may have a potential to be used as a supplementary cementitious material. This paper reports a study conducted to understand the hydration behaviour of ordinary Portland cement in combination with low-grade limestone. Low-grade limestone samples with dolomite, silica and clay impurities were collected from various limestone mines in India and used in cementitious blends at various replacement levels after suitable processing. Reaction kinetics was studied using calorimetry and phase assemblage using techniques like X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetry. Mercury intrusion porosimetry was employed to study the microstructure of cementitious blends. Dilution effect of low-grade limestone was studied by measuring compressive strength of cement mortar cubes for various replacement levels. Shortening of induction period, increased peak heat rate and reduced time to peak were observed in the blends of ordinary Portland cement with low-grade limestone. Carboaluminate formation, ettringite stabilisation and higher bound water content were also seen. The studies showed that low-grade limestone also can be used as a partial replacement for ordinary Portland cement without compromising the strength up to 15% replacement. Higher replacement levels, although showing a reduction in strength due to dilution effect, could still be considered for non-structural applications. • A systematic assessment of the effect of low-grade limestone with different types of impurities on the hydration of ordinary Portland cement is done. • Similarities and differences in the behaviour of OPC blended with cement-grade and low-grade limestone are brought out. • Non-cement grade limestone, or low grade limestone, can efficiently be utilised as SCM with up to 15% replacement of OPC. This paper forecasts the growth of freight transport emissions in India's trucking sector until 2050. We use the ARIMAX time series model to project the commercial vehicle population under various economic growth scenarios. CO 2 emissions are estimated using emission factors, distance traveled, and the projected commercial vehicle population. We use the validated forecasting model to investigate how emissions can be curbed through vehicle scrappage policies or fleet electrification to realign with the 2015 Paris Agreement's targets. Compared to the business-as-usual (BAU) scenario, 10-year and 15-year vehicle scrappage policies are estimated to reduce freight emissions by 6–11% and 1–2%, respectively. Fleet electrification has more pronounced effects as it results in a 35% and 70% reduction in carbon emissions for heavy and light goods vehicles in 2050, respectively, compared to the BAU scenario. Due to the large-scale integration of renewable energy and inevitable disturbing events (including natural disasters and deliberate attacks), the invulnerability of power grids is facing a great challenge, thus the security criterion is demanded to upgrade from N − 1 to N − k. However, with the increasing of k and the expanding of network scale, resource consumption of network expansion shows an exponential explosion. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the invulnerability of power grids from a new perspective. In this paper, the definition of nodal N − k security criterion is proposed, which divides buses into different security levels based on realistic demand, and decouples the security analysis from the system level to individual nodes. A two-stage robust optimization model is established, cooperating with the nodal N − k security criterion, the load demand of critical buses could be guaranteed. Moreover, the proposed discrepant upgrade scheme is flexible and has strong generalization performance, where enhanced buses and security levels can be selected independently based on the preferences of decision-makers. The Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) represents a significant addition to India's clean energy initiative through nuclear energy. This paper showcases the application of Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) to ensure the chemical composition of the fuel. The micro-destructive nature of the analysis, minimal sample preparation requirements and the potential for remote analysis position LIBS as a viable alternative to Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). The study encompasses the quantification of UF 4 and ThF 4 , demonstrating both univariate and multivariate chemometrics calibration approaches. Various normalization methods on the raw spectral data are explored, and the results are meticulously compared. Upon evaluating different analytical methods, the optimal accuracy and precision achieved were in the range of approximately 2.6% and 3.9% for UF 4 , and about 0.4% and 0.5% for ThF 4 , respectively. Fresh vegetables are prone to foodborne pathogen infection due to improper cultivation methods and poor post-harvest handling practices. This paper describes the prevalence of foodborne pathogens in three vegetables (tomato, brinjal, and lablab) cultivated by small-scale producers (SSP) of India. We assessed the possible entry of pathogens into the vegetable production chain. Samples from soil, manure, irrigation water, harvesting bins, and workers' hands were assessed as sources of possible pathogen entry. In addition, further sampling was done to determine prevalence of these pathogens in the produce from the agricultural fields and markets. Total plate counts, yeast and mold count, total coliforms like general microbial indices, and possible foodborne pathogens like Salmonella , Escherichia coli O157, Staphylococcus aureus , Pseudomonas aeruginosa , and norovirus were assessed in all the samples by standard microbiological, biochemical, and molecular methods. The results revealed that among the three vegetables we studied, brinjal had the highest load of general microbial indicators. Moreover, the total coliforms count of market vegetables was higher than that of on-farm vegetables, indicating poor hygiene in post-harvest operations. The pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found in the market tomatoes (0.35 log 10 cfu/g), and E. coli was detected in the market samples of brinjal (2.98–3.89 log 10 cfu/g) and lablab (0.59–2.21 log 10 cfu/g), thereby revealing fecal cross-contamination during pre or post-harvest operations. None of the vegetable samples were contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, Staphylococcus aureus , Salmonella sp., and norovirus. However, the microbiological source tracking of primary production farms showed that E. coli O157:H7 was present in manure (9/27), soil (6/27), harvest bins (6/27), and irrigation water samples (3/27) of SSP farms. In addition, soil (33%), manure (11%), and harvest bins (11%) had Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Based on long-term and longitudinal fieldwork conducted in Keezhputhupattu refugee camp near Pondicherry between 2010 and 2023, this study analyses the experience of the refugees, which combines a "know-how" that they have developed due to a life in exile since 1983, which is linked, among other things, to a sometimes well-developed diasporic network; and a restrictive agency that has been granted to them by the Indian and Tamil Nadu authorities, which places them in a regime that is intended to be exceptional. Women's empowerment status varies greatly in India according to caste, class, ethnicity and region. This paper aims to investigate the caste/tribe disparity in women's empowerment by region, the main correlates of each domain of empowerment, and the association of women's empowerment with nutritional and health care access outcomes, specifically anaemia, menstrual hygiene, and institutional delivery. Using National Family Health Survey-5 (2019–2021) data, we have created a modified survey-based women's empowerment index (SWPER) using principal component analysis with Oblique varimax rotation. The first four components are interpreted as an attitude to violence, freedom of movement, decision-making power and social independence. Several multivariate regression models were used to understand the factor associated with empowerment and the association of women's empowerment with different health outcomes. The results indicate that women from the forward castes are the most empowered in most domains except decision-making. However, after controlling other background variables, the forward castes women are found to be the most empowered in attitude to violence, whereas Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes women were found to be the most empowered women in decision-making. With regards to social independence, deprived castes women are more empowered than the forward castes women. The likelihood of empowerment in social independence domain increases with increasing wealth. There are wide regional variations in empowerment level between different social groups. Caste/tribe identity plays a significant role in determining health outcomes in India. Among all empowerment domains, social independence emerges as the most significant associated factor with improved health across all caste/tribe groups. The path to women's empowerment in India must recognize the intersectionality of caste/tribe identities, and address regional disparities. Social independence emerges as a critical determinant across all caste/tribe groups for improving health. Eucalyptus species are one of the most suitable sources of raw materials for pulp and paper industries in India as well as worldwide. Rational management of Eucalyptus plantations is therefore imperative to ensure sustained production and supply of raw materials to the business. Thus, sustainable and integrated disease management necessitates significant knowledge of plant pathogens that occur on Eucalyptus. Heavy blighting of young Eucalyptus plantations infected by Pestalotiopsis microspora was observed in E. camaldulensis for the first time in Khammam province, Telangana State, India. The associated fungus was isolated by following the standard tissue isolation technique and its pathogenic ability was confirmed. Based on the morphological and cultural characterization, the associated fungus was identified as P. microspora , and further, its identity was confirmed by comparing the sequences of internal transcribed space (ITS), partial translation elongation factor-1α (TEF1), and partial β – tubulin (TUB2). Pathogenicity assay confirmed that P. microspora could infect E. camaldulensis , which produced similar symptoms when artificially inoculated as those found on naturally infected plants under field conditions. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of P. microspora causing leaf blight in Eucalyptus plantations from India. This article simultaneously analyzes residential relocation, vehicle ownership changes, and travel demand changes while accommodating potential self-selection effects to unravel the causal impacts of built environment features on vehicle ownership and travel behavior. Earlier studies on residential mobility have not considered the causal link from objective built environment features to subjective built environment, and rarely control for attitudes and objective built environment features in the empirical analysis. Besides, the literature has not discussed how households perceive neighborhood in terms of children's/women's travel and how that changes by residential relocation and impact mobility decisions. The paper compares built environment impacts on mobility decisions in two adjacent areas in India, Hubli-Dharwad twin cities, that vary by socio-economic and land use contexts. The study notes that Dharwad residents acquired more personal vehicles than Hubli residents, while the proportion of households who relinquished their vehicles is high in Hubli. Post movement, Dharwad residents opted for areas with higher diversity and density than their counterparts in Hubli. In Hubli, households find that their current location does not help their children use active modes to schools, and women find jobs closer to home. The statistical analysis revealed that Hubli residents prefer locations with improved travel conveniences for women and children. With improvements in the children's travel friendliness, households of both cities decreased vehicle ownership, whereas household vehicle ownership of both cities increased with improvements in women's travel friendliness. In Dharwad, moving to residential areas characterized by high land-use diversity reduces commute travel, while an inverse association is noted in Hubli. The statistical analysis did not confirm self-selection effects due to travel attitudes. In Dharwad, the latent factor on women's travel friendliness featured in self-selection and shows an independent effect on vehicle ownership. Preoccupations for the widening gap between irrigated and rainfed areas are central to debates addressing the agrarian crisis in semi-arid India. Yet policies are driven by a catch-up mentality that points towards an irrigated model of agriculture, demarcating rainfed areas as spaces of rural marginality. To unpack the historical causes behind this 'irrigation at all costs' mindset, the paper traces how the rainfed/irrigated gap became constituted through policies of drought-protection during British colonial time. Focussing on the Bombay Deccan after the establishment of the British Raj, it frames drought-protection as a more-than-human technopolitics to explore the performative power of technopolitical practices to bring water worlds into being. Through a critical reading of the colonial archive, we trace the ontological work of drought-protection as a practice that rearranged existing human-water relations to materialize a reality of water 'as irrigation'. Grounded on linear and predictable flows, this irrigated ontology divided the landscape along an irrigated-as-protected and rainfed-as-unprotected logic. Encountering a world that followed geographies of water 'as precipitation' however created sites of contestation blurring the partition envisioned by engineering plans. Rather than the imposition of hydrological power from above, colonizing the rains represents a contested project whereby certain water worlds became present and real while others discarded and less real. Contributing to scholarship shaking the ontological ground underneath water management regimes, we suggest a reflexive turn for these practices, as they must confront their power to materialize (water) realities and the possibility to enact a decolonial technopolitics beyond water's liquid form. In India, a significant portion of the population is still dependent on traditional biomass as fuel for household cooking. The combustion of conventional fuel for cooking usually negatively impacts human health and the environment. Biogas can have multiple benefits; it includes saving time to collect firewood, is a clean fuel, and may reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A national program on biogas is implemented in India since the 1980s. However, there is a considerable difference between the potential and its utilization. Also, biogas' emission through leaks and intentional release is regular with poorly maintained digesters, which questions the environmental benefits it might have. This paper assessed the significance of biogas as a cooking fuel. The results show that, if adequately maintained, biogas result in minimum GHGs emissions than other fuel options. However, if not, this will result in a harmful impact on the environment. Furthermore, annually 1181.31 PJ of useful energy is required for cooking in India. However, currently the contribution of biogas is <0.5 %. In addition, it is also found that in the current scenario, overall GWP from household cooking is about 204,479.92 Gg CO 2 eq. If energy from surplus animal dung is harnessed correctly, 321.62 PJ per annum of useful energy can be harnessed. The use of biogas can reduce 20 % of GWP from India's household cooking. Economic analysis shows that installing a biogas digester is an economic viable option with IRR of 54 %. Commercial Vehicle (CV) ownership is a variable of interest in planning interventions and policy instruments for sustainable transportation, but the decision-making process to own a vehicle fleet is not well understood in the context of freight transportation. The necessity to understand the heterogeneity in CV type ownership arises from the need to mitigate externalities associated with them. We argue that the need to own CVs is a derived demand arising out of the demand to move goods and is influenced by freight handling requirements of businesses. To this end, this paper examines the dual role (mediation) of freight generation variables while modelling CV ownership, which is an underexplored area of research in freight transportation planning. Establishment-based freight survey data from seven cities in Kerala, India, are used to develop structural equation models. The CV ownership is analysed through freight generation variables as mediators, apart from the direct influence of business size indicators and commodity characteristics. The study findings confirm the intermediatory role of freight generation and show the consequences of neglecting such a dual role in the overall CV ownership modelling paradigm. The model estimates offer insights into the causal structure of the decision-making process of establishments to own different levels of fleet ownership and composition. Understanding the business managers' decisions to own CVs in their fleet can be used for freight traffic management using urban consolidation centre (UCC). The statistical findings also provide the total effects between fleet and employment size and how freight generation mediates this relationship. Energy production in India during 2017–2018 has increased by 5.71%, while 7.39% in 2019, as per the Energy Statistics of India. Due to the ever-increasing demand, Renewable Energy Sources (RES) are used to meet the power demand with low cost and emission. In India, the power generation capacity of micro-hydropower is limited to 1.8% (19749 MW) of the total potential reserve. The conventional turbines may not effectively harness energy for the micro-hydropower system. Traditional turbines are ideally suited for applications requiring a low discharge with a high head or a high discharge with a low head. However, they are futile in ultra-low head implementations. In order to enhance the electricity production from perennial/tidal sources, the Gorlov Helical Turbine (GHT) is suggested. This paper presented a design and analysis of garlov helical hydro turbine on index of revolution. GHT with a diameter and height of 0.600 m is designed for a micro-hydropower system. Nine 3D-GHT's with a diameter and height of 0.600 m is modelled based on varying indices of revolution. The effect of the index of revolution on the performance of the GHT is examined through simulation, MATLAB and field-testing. By analysing the outcomes, it is observed that 0.25 remains the optimum value for the index of revolution of the helix. The output power obtained by MATLAB, SolidWorks simulation and field-testing is 1.175W, 0.951W and 0.657W, respectively. India's power system has been evolving rapidly through multiple structural and operational reforms. The evolution is driven by multiple factors, including deregulation of the power system and ambitious government programs to increase Renewable Energy (RE) in the power generation portfolio and provide energy access in rural India. The use of RE and Electric vehicles (EVs) introduces its own set of challenges to the network operator. With the promotion given to RE and EVs in India, the Demand Response (DR) can become a key part of the puzzle that can help the Indian power sector for its smooth working. The importance of DR is because of its potential to alleviate network congestion, improve reliability, and be cost-effective while maintaining demand-supply balance. This paper analyzes access to finance based on the usage of financial services by Indian households. Based on two rounds of nationally representative All India Debt and Investment Survey (AIDIS) for 2002 and 2012, we examine how access to credit is associated with a household's socioeconomic and demographic characteristics using Heckman's two-step approach procedure. Our results show that belonging to higher asset quintile groups has a statistically significant positive effect on the household's decision to take loans only from the formal sector in both rounds and significant negative effects on taking a loan only from the informal sector. Similarly, social and religious groups play a significant role in the decision of the household to take a loan. Households with more educated adults are more likely to take a loan. Households involved in regular wage-earning occupations in urban areas are more likely to take a loan from formal sources. Thus, the importance of policy placing greater emphasis on demand-side barriers rather than on improving the physical availability of formal financial services to promote financial inclusion in India. India has been voluntarily following the guidelines on space debris mitigation recommended by UN-COPUOS (United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space) and IADC (Inter-Agency Space Debris coordination Committee) to the maximum possible extent towards safe and sustainable operations in outer space. As a part of the ongoing efforts for better compliance with these guidelines, post-mission disposal of Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) objects has been carried out in the recent past. Cartosat-2, which was operational at 630 km altitude, is the first satellite to be de-orbited at its end-of-life through a series of perigee reduction orbit maneuvers to minimize its presence in the LEO region. Consequently, the post-mission orbital lifetime was reduced from more than 30 years to less than 5 years in compliance with the 25-year rule recommended in IADC space debris mitigation guidelines. The de-orbiting exercise utilizing left-over propellant also achieved the objective of minimising any accidental break-up risk. This paper outlines the relevant analyses and planning aspects of post-mission de-orbiting for Cartosat-2. Inactivated viral vaccines have long been used in humans for diseases of global health threat (e.g., poliomyelitis and pandemic and seasonal influenza) and the technology of inactivation has more recently been used for emerging diseases such as West Nile, Chikungunya, Ross River, SARS and especially for COVID-19. The Brighton Collaboration Benefit-Risk Assessment of VAccines by TechnolOgy (BRAVATO) Working Group has prepared standardized templates to describe the key considerations for the benefit and risk of several vaccine platform technologies, including inactivated viral vaccines. This paper uses the BRAVATO inactivated virus vaccine template to review the features of an inactivated whole chikungunya virus (CHIKV) vaccine that has been evaluated in several preclinical studies and clinical trials. The inactivated whole CHIKV vaccine was cultured on Vero cells and inactivated by ß-propiolactone. This provides an effective, flexible system for high-yield manufacturing. The inactivated whole CHIKV vaccine has favorable thermostability profiles, compatible with vaccine supply chains. Safety data are compiled in the current inactivated whole CHIKV vaccine safety database with unblinded data from the ongoing studies: 850 participants from phase II study (parts A and B) outside of India, and 600 participants from ongoing phase II study in India, and completed phase I clinical studies for 60 subjects. Overall, the inactivated whole CHIKV vaccine has been well tolerated, with no significant safety issues identified. Evaluation of the inactivated whole CHIKV vaccine is continuing, with 1410 participants vaccinated as of 20 April 2022. The long-term performance monitoring and characterization of field-exposed solar photovoltaic (PV) modules are essential for efficient power generation. This paper is an attempt at performance evaluation of the amorphous silicon (a-si), Heterojunction Intrinsic Thin layer (HIT), and Multi-Crystalline (mc-si) technologies after twelve years of outdoor exposure in the composite climate of India. Characterization techniques such as Visual Inspection, Infra-Red (IR) Thermography, Electroluminescence (EL) Imagining, and Electrical characterization have been carried out. I–V measurements, power losses, current degradation, and voltage degradation calculations are carried out. The percentage of electrical decline is 8.61%, 2.73%, and 29.08%, for Isc, Voc, and P MP respectively in a-si solar modules. For HIT modules 1.97%, 0.68%, and 0.48% for Isc, Voc, and V MP respectively. Finally, for the mc-si PV modules, these are 3.76%, 0.5%, and 1.44% for Isc, Voc, and P MP respectively over 12 years. The average degradation rates are found to be 1.24%/year, 0.14%/year, and 1.50%/year for a-si, HIT, and mc-si modules respectively. The EL imagining of the a-si modules shows the localized shunt over the surface of the modules as well as disconnected cell interconnects whereas no such defects are over the m-ci and HIT modules.
