An essay is presented which discusses the relationship between the theft of paper, the use of paper as a food wrapper for cheese and London, England's book industry from 1750 through 1799. An overview of the theft of paper from London printers and booksellers and its sale to cheese shops is provided.

An iconic medium of underground antiauthoritarian student activism in the 1980s, taejabo, or large "big-character" paper posters, has experienced a revival in postmillennial South Korea. Despite democratization and the availability of numerous online platforms, taejabo remains an important low-tech medium for students' expression on matters of local, national, and international significance. This article explores taejabo's transformations—from flourishing as an analogue counter-establishment medium in the 1980s, to experimental digital adaptations and the medium's decline in the 1990s, to taejabo's comeback in the 2010s as a postdigital medium. Drawing on scholarship on remediation, media materiality, and postdigitality, this article argues that taejabo's abiding relevance and coherent identity have been anchored in its ontology as publicly displayed large sheets of inscribed paper, and in its material performativity. In particular, taejabo's spatiality enables it to not simply represent different ideas but emplace them, literally confronting onlookers and materially transforming campuses into places of contestation. Contemporary taejabo's intermediality between paper and digital illustrates how online media, rather than being disruptive, are incorporated into established media practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Few studies have focused specifically on the physiocratic analysis of money. The physiocrats' position was based on their criticism of Law's system and more broadly on the role of finance. First, they rejected the idea that a large amount of money was the condition for the wealth of nations. Second, they rejected paper money, as well as any form of currency alteration. As a simple means of exchange, Quesnay and his followers recognized that money could be replaced by paper. However, in order to comply with the "value for equal value" principle of exchange, money had to be made of precious metals, as Le Trosne, the main architect of the physiocratic monetary doctrine, forcefully asserted. This doctrine of money created a tension: from the circulation perspective, money was not considered as a component of wealth and could be replaced by paper to simply represent flows in expenditure; but from the equality-of-exchange perspective, money had to be made of precious metals, thus becoming a storable asset in a portfolio. This essay reflects on the materiality of migration with a focus on passports and other kinds of documentary permissions for travel. It argues that throughout the history of the Americas passports have acquired meanings exceeding contemporary associations with national citizenship that are discernible in literary works and in the archival record. It looks to documentary practices in Latin America and the Caribbean to decenter the United States from studies of border crossing and Latinx subjectivities, suggesting intersecting hemispheric practices that delineate the relative importance of being documented or undocumented.
