Millimeter-wave radar-based identification technology has a wide range of applications in persistent identity verification, covering areas such as security production, healthcare, and personalized smart consumption systems. It has received extensive attention from the academic community due to its advantages of being non-invasive, environmentally insensitive and privacy-preserving. Existing identification algorithms mainly rely on a single signal, such as breathing or heartbeat. The reliability and accuracy of these algorithms are limited due to the high similarity of breathing patterns and the low signal-to-noise ratio of heartbeat signals. To address the above issues, this paper proposes an algorithm for multimodal fusion for identity recognition. This algorithm extracts and fuses features derived from phase signals, respiratory signals, and heartbeat signals for identity recognition purposes. The spatial features of signals with different modes are first extracted by the residual network (ResNet), after which these features are fused with a spatial-channel attention fusion module. On this basis, the temporal features are further extracted with a time series-based self-attention mechanism. Finally, the feature vectors of the user's vital sign modality are obtained to perform identity recognition. This method makes full use of the correlation and complementarity between different modal signals to improve the accuracy and reliability of identification. Simulation experiments show that the algorithm identity recognition proposed in this paper achieves an accuracy of 94.26% on a 20-subject self-test dataset, which is much higher than that of the traditional algorithm, which is about 85%. In order to improve the reading efficiency of pointer meter, this paper proposes a reading method based on LinkNet. Firstly, the meter dial area is detected using YOLOv8. Subsequently, the detected images are fed into the improved LinkNet segmentation network. In this network, we replace traditional convolution with partial convolution, which reduces the number of model parameters while ensuring accuracy is not affected. Remove one pair of encoding and decoding modules to further compress the model size. In the feature fusion part of the model, the CBAM (Convolutional Block Attention Module) attention module is added and the direct summing operation is replaced by the AFF (Attention Feature Fusion) module, which enhances the feature extraction capability of the model for the segmented target. In the subsequent rotation correction section, this paper effectively addresses the issue of inaccurate prediction by CNN networks for axisymmetric images within the 0–360° range, by dividing the rotation angle prediction into classification and regression steps. It ensures that the final reading part receives the correct angle of image input, thereby improving the accuracy of the overall reading algorithm. We live in the era of large data analysis, where processing vast datasets has become essential for uncovering valuable insights across various domains of our lives. Machine learning (ML) algorithms offer powerful tools for processing and analyzing this abundance of information. However, the considerable time and computational resources needed for training ML models pose significant challenges, especially within cascade schemes, due to the iterative nature of training algorithms, the complexity of feature extraction and transformation processes, and the large sizes of the datasets involved. This paper proposes a modification to the existing ML-based cascade scheme for analyzing large biomedical datasets by incorporating principal component analysis (PCA) at each level of the cascade. We selected the number of principal components to replace the initial inputs so that it ensured 95% variance retention. Furthermore, we enhanced the training and application algorithms and demonstrated the effectiveness of the modified cascade scheme through comparative analysis, which showcased a significant reduction in training time while improving the generalization properties of the method and the accuracy of the large data analysis. It is difficult to visually detect internal defects in a large transformer with a metal closure. For convenient internal inspection, a micro-robot was adopted, and an inspection method based on an image-enhancement algorithm and an improved deep-learning network was proposed in this paper. Considering the dim environment inside the transformer and the problems of irregular imaging distance and fluctuating supplementary light conditions during image acquisition with the internal-inspection robot, an improved MSRCR algorithm for image enhancement was proposed. It could analyze the local contrast of the image and enhance the details on multiple scales. At the same time, a white-balance algorithm was introduced to enhance the contrast and brightness and solve the problems of overexposure and color distortion. To improve the target recognition performance of complex carbon-trace defects, the SimAM mechanism was incorporated into the Backbone network of the YOLOv8 model to enhance the extraction of carbon-trace features. Meanwhile, the DyHead dynamic detection Head framework was constructed at the output of the YOLOv8 model to improve the perception of local carbon traces with different sizes. To improve the defect target recognition speed of the transformer-inspection robot, a pruning operation was carried out on the YOLOv8 model to remove redundant parameters, realize model lightness, and improve detection efficiency. To verify the effectiveness of the improved algorithm, the detection model was trained and validated with the carbon-trace dataset. The results showed that the MSH-YOLOv8 algorithm achieved an accuracy of 91.80%, which was 3.4 percentage points higher compared to the original YOLOv8 algorithm, and had a significant advantage over other mainstream target-detection algorithms. Meanwhile, the FPS of the proposed algorithm was up to 99.2, indicating that the model computation and model complexity were successfully reduced, which meets the requirements for engineering applications of the transformer internal-inspection robot. Object detection is one of the core technologies for autonomous driving. Current road object detection mainly relies on visible light, which is prone to missed detections and false alarms in rainy, night-time, and foggy scenes. Multispectral object detection based on the fusion of RGB and infrared images can effectively address the challenges of complex and changing road scenes, improving the detection performance of current algorithms in complex scenarios. However, previous multispectral detection algorithms suffer from issues such as poor fusion of dual-mode information, poor detection performance for multi-scale objects, and inadequate utilization of semantic information. To address these challenges and enhance the detection performance in complex road scenes, this paper proposes a novel multispectral object detection algorithm called MRD-YOLO. In MRD-YOLO, we utilize interaction-based feature extraction to effectively fuse information and introduce the BIC-Fusion module with attention guidance to fuse different modal information. We also incorporate the SAConv module to improve the model's detection performance for multi-scale objects and utilize the AIFI structure to enhance the utilization of semantic information. Finally, we conduct experiments on two major public datasets, FLIR_Aligned and M3FD. The traditional rearview mirror method cannot fully guarantee safety when driving trucks. RGB and infrared images collected by cameras are used for registration and recognition, so as to achieve the perception of surroundings and ensure safe driving. The traditional scale-invariant feature transform (SIFT) algorithm has a mismatching rate, and the YOLO algorithm has an optimization space in feature extraction. To address these issues, this paper proposes a truck surround sensing technique based on multi-features and an improved YOLOv5 algorithm. Firstly, the edge corner points and infrared features of the preset target region are extracted, and then a feature point set containing the improved SIFT algorithm is generated for registration. Finally, the YOLOv5 algorithm is improved by fusing infrared features and introducing a composite prediction mechanism at the prediction end. The simulation results show that, on average, the image stitching accuracy is improved by 17%, the time is reduced by 89%, and the target recognition accuracy is improved by 2.86%. With the sustainable development of intelligent fisheries, accurate underwater fish segmentation is a key step toward intelligently obtaining fish morphology data. However, the blurred, distorted and low-contrast features of fish images in underwater scenes affect the improvement in fish segmentation accuracy. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a method of underwater fish segmentation based on an improved PSPNet network (IST-PSPNet). First, in the feature extraction stage, to fully perceive features and context information of different scales, we propose an iterative attention feature fusion mechanism, which realizes the depth mining of fish features of different scales and the full perception of context information. Then, a SoftPool pooling method based on fast index weighted activation is used to reduce the numbers of parameters and computations while retaining more feature information, which improves segmentation accuracy and efficiency. Finally, a triad attention mechanism module, triplet attention (TA), is added to the different scale features in the golden tower pool module so that the space attention can focus more on the specific position of the fish body features in the channel through cross-dimensional interaction to suppress the fuzzy distortion caused by background interference in underwater scenes. Additionally, the parameter-sharing strategy is used in this process to make different scale features share the same learning weight parameters and further reduce the numbers of parameters and calculations. The experimental results show that the method presented in this paper yielded better results for the DeepFish underwater fish image dataset than other methods, with 91.56% for the Miou, 46.68 M for Params and 40.27 G for GFLOPS. When performing robotic automatic sorting and assembly operations of multi-category hardware, there are some problems with the existing convolutional neural network visual recognition algorithms, such as large computing power consumption, low recognition efficiency, and a high rate of missed detection and false detection. A novel efficient convolutional neural algorithm for multi-category aliasing hardware recognition is proposed in this paper. On the basis of SSD, the novel algorithm uses Resnet-50 instead of VGG16 as the backbone feature extraction network, and it integrates ECA-Net and Improved Spatial Attention Block (ISAB): two attention mechanisms to improve the ability of learning and extract target features. Then, we pass the weighted features to extra feature layers to build an improved SSD algorithm. At last, in order to compare the performance difference between the novel algorithm and the existing algorithms, three kinds of hardware with different sizes are chosen to constitute an aliasing scene that can simulate an industrial site, and some comparative experiments have been completed finally. The experimental results show that the novel algorithm has an mAP of 98.20% and FPS of 78, which are better than Faster R-CNN, YOLOv4, YOLOXs, EfficientDet-D1, and original SSD in terms of comprehensive performance. The detection algorithm commonly misses obscured pedestrians in traffic scenes with a high pedestrian density because mutual occlusion among pedestrians reduces the prediction box score of the concealed pedestrians. The paper uses the YOLOv7 algorithm as the baseline and makes the following three improvements by investigating the variables influencing the detection method's performance: First, the backbone network of the YOLOv7 algorithm is replaced with the lightweight feature extraction network Mobilenetv3 since the pedestrian detection algorithm frequently needs to be deployed in driverless mobile, which requires a fast operating speed of the algorithm; second, a high-resolution feature pyramid structure is suggested for the issue of missed detection of hidden pedestrians, which upscales the feature maps generated from the feature pyramid to increase the resolution of the output feature maps and introduces shallow feature maps to strengthen the distinctions between adjacent sub-features to enhance the network's ability to extract features for the visible area of hidden pedestrians and small-sized pedestrians in order to produce deeper features with greater differentiation for pedestrians; and the third is to suggest a detection head based on an attention mechanism that is employed to lower the confidence level of target neighboring sub-features, lower the quantity of redundant detection boxes, and lower the following NMS computation. The mAP of the suggested approach in this work achieves 89.75%, which is 9.5 percentage points better than the YOLOv7 detection algorithm, according to experiments on the CrowdHuman pedestrian-intensive dataset. In autonomous driving, environmental perception technology often encounters challenges such as false positives, missed detections, and low accuracy, particularly in detecting small objects and complex scenarios. Existing algorithms frequently suffer from issues like feature redundancy, insufficient contextual interaction, and inadequate information fusion, making it difficult to perform multi-task detection and segmentation efficiently. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an end-to-end multi-task environmental perception model named YOLO-Mg, designed to simultaneously perform traffic object detection, lane line detection, and drivable area segmentation. First, a multi-stage gated aggregation network (MogaNet) is employed during the feature extraction process to enhance contextual interaction by improving diversity in the channel dimension, thereby compensating for the limitations of feed-forward neural networks in contextual understanding. Second, to further improve the model's accuracy in detecting objects of various scales, a restructured weighted bidirectional feature pyramid network (BiFPN) is introduced, optimizing cross-level information fusion and enabling the model to handle object detection at different scales more accurately. Finally, the model is equipped with one detection head and two segmentation heads to achieve efficient multi-task environmental perception, ensuring the simultaneous execution of multiple tasks. The experimental results on the BDD100K dataset demonstrate that the model achieves a mean average precision (mAP50) of 81.4% in object detection, an Intersection over Union (IoU) of 28.9% in lane detection, and a mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of 92.6% in drivable area segmentation. Dragon fruit stem disease significantly affects both the quality and yield of dragon fruit. Therefore, there is an urgent need for an efficient, high-precision intelligent detection method to address the challenge of disease detection. To address the limitations of traditional methods, including slow detection and weak micro-integration capability, this paper proposes an improved YOLOv8-G algorithm. The algorithm reduces computational redundancy by introducing the C2f-Faster module. The loss function was modified to the structured intersection over union (SIoU), and the coordinate attention (CA) and content-aware reorganization feature extraction (CARAFE) modules were incorporated. These enhancements increased the model's stability and improved its accuracy in recognizing small targets. Experimental results showed that the YOLOv8-G algorithm achieved a mean average precision (mAP) of 83.1% and mAP50:95 of 48.3%, representing improvements of 3.3% and 2.3%, respectively, compared to the original model. The model size and floating point operations per second (FLOPS) were reduced to 4.9 MB and 6.9 G, respectively, indicating reductions of 20% and 14.8%. Given the severe impact of Citrus Huanglongbing on orchard production, accurate detection of the disease is crucial in orchard management. In the natural environments, due to factors such as varying light intensities, mutual occlusion of citrus leaves, the extremely small size of Huanglongbing leaves, and the high similarity between Huanglongbing and other citrus diseases, there remains an issue of low detection accuracy when using existing mainstream object detection models for the detection of citrus Huanglongbing. To address this issue, we propose YOLO-EAF (You Only Look Once–Efficient Asymptotic Fusion), an improved model based on YOLOv8n. Firstly, the Efficient Multi-Scale Attention Module with cross-spatial learning (EMA) is integrated into the backbone feature extraction network to enhance the feature extraction and integration capabilities of the model. Secondly, the adaptive spatial feature fusion (ASFF) module is used to enhance the feature fusion ability of different levels of the model so as to improve the generalization ability of the model. Finally, the focal and efficient intersection over union (Focal–EIOU) is utilized as the loss function, which accelerates the convergence process of the model and improves the regression precision and robustness of the model. In order to verify the performance of the YOLO-EAF method, we tested it on the self-built citrus Huanglongbing image dataset. The experimental results showed that YOLO-EAF achieved an 8.4% higher precision than YOLOv8n on the self-built dataset, reaching 82.7%. The F1-score increased by 3.33% to 77.83%, and the mAP (0.5) increased by 3.3% to 84.7%. Through experimental comparisons, the YOLO-EAF model proposed in this paper offers a new technical route for the monitoring and management of Huanglongbing in smart orange orchards. Chip pad inspection is of great practical importance for chip alignment inspection and correction. It is one of the key technologies for automated chip inspection in semiconductor manufacturing. When applying deep learning methods for chip pad inspection, the main problem to be solved is how to ensure the accuracy of small target pad detection and, at the same time, achieve a lightweight inspection model. The attention mechanism is widely used to improve the accuracy of small target detection by finding the attention region of the network. However, conventional attention mechanisms capture feature information locally, which makes it difficult to effectively improve the detection efficiency of small targets from complex backgrounds in target detection tasks. In this paper, an OCAM (Object Convolution Attention Module) attention module is proposed to build long-range dependencies between channel features and position features by constructing feature contextual relationships to enhance the correlation between features. By adding the OCAM attention module to the feature extraction layer of the YOLOv5 network, the detection performance of chip pads is effectively improved. In addition, a design guideline for the attention layer is proposed in the paper. The attention layer is adjusted by network scaling to avoid network characterization bottlenecks, balance network parameters, and network detection performance, and reduce the hardware device requirements for the improved YOLOv5 network in practical scenarios. This paper proposes a multimodal fusion 3D target detection algorithm based on the attention mechanism to improve the performance of 3D target detection. The algorithm utilizes point cloud data and information from the camera. For image feature extraction, the ResNet50 + FPN architecture extracts features at four levels. Point cloud feature extraction employs the voxel method and FCN to extract point and voxel features. The fusion of image and point cloud features is achieved through regional point fusion and voxel fusion methods. After information fusion, the Coordinate and SimAM attention mechanisms extract fusion features at a deep level. The algorithm's performance is evaluated using the DAIR-V2X dataset. The results show that compared to the Part-A2 algorithm; the proposed algorithm improves the mAP value by 7.9% in the BEV view and 7.8% in the 3D view at IOU = 0.5 (cars) and IOU = 0.25 (pedestrians and cyclists). At IOU = 0.7 (cars) and IOU = 0.5 (pedestrians and cyclists), the mAP value of the SECOND algorithm is improved by 5.4% in the BEV view and 4.3% in the 3D view, compared to other comparison algorithms. The accuracy of insulators and their defect identification by UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) in transmission-line inspection needs to be further improved, and the model size of the detection algorithm is significantly reduced to make it more suitable for edge-end deployment. In this paper, the algorithm uses a lightweight GhostNet module to reconstruct the backbone feature extraction network of the YOLOv4 model and employs depthwise separable convolution in the feature fusion layer. The model is lighter on the premise of ensuring the effect of image information extraction. Meanwhile, the ECA-Net channel attention mechanism is embedded into the feature extraction layer and PANet (Path Aggregation Network) to improve the recognition accuracy of the model for small targets. The experimental results show that the size of the improved model is reduced from 244 MB to 42 MB, which is only 17.3% of the original model. At the same time, the mAp of the improved model is 0.77% higher than that of the original model, reaching 95.4%. Moreover, the mAP compared with YOLOv5-s and YOLOX-s, respectively, is improved by 1.98% and 1.29%. In view of the fact that the aerial images of UAVs are usually taken from a top-down perspective, there are large changes in spatial resolution and small targets to be detected, and the detection method of natural scenes is not effective in detecting under the arbitrary arrangement of remote sensing image direction, which is difficult to apply to the detection demand scenario of road technology status assessment, this paper proposes a lightweight network architecture algorithm based on MobileNetv3-YOLOv5s (MR-YOLO). First, the MobileNetv3 structure is introduced to replace part of the backbone network of YOLOv5s for feature extraction so as to reduce the network model size and computation and improve the detection speed of the target; meanwhile, the CSPNet cross-stage local network is introduced to ensure the accuracy while reducing the computation. The focal loss function is improved to improve the localization accuracy while increasing the speed of the bounding box regression. Finally, by improving the YOLOv5 target detection network from the prior frame design and the bounding box regression formula, the rotation angle method is added to make it suitable for the detection demand scenario of road technology status assessment. After a large number of algorithm comparisons and data ablation experiments, the feasibility of the algorithm was verified on the Xinjiang Altay highway dataset, and the accuracy of the MR-YOLO algorithm was as high as 91.1%, the average accuracy was as high as 92.4%, and the detection speed reached 96.8 FPS. Compared with YOLOv5s, the p-value and mAP values of the proposed algorithm were effectively improved. Most of the traditional image feature point extraction and matching methods are based on a series of light properties of images. These light properties easily conflict with the distinguishability of the image features. The traditional light imaging methods focus only on a fixed depth of the target scene, and subjects at other depths are often easily blurred. This makes the traditional image feature point extraction and matching methods suffer from a low accuracy and a poor robustness. Therefore, in this paper, a light field camera is used as a sensor to acquire image data and to generate a full-focus image with the help of the rich depth information inherent in the original image of the light field. The traditional ORB feature point extraction and matching algorithm is enhanced with the goal of improving the number and accuracy of the feature point extraction for the light field full-focus images. The results show that the improved ORB algorithm extracts not only most of the features in the target scene but also covers the edge part of the image to a greater extent and produces extracted feature points which are evenly distributed for the light field full-focus image. Moreover, the extracted feature points are not repeated in a large number in a certain part of the image, eliminating the aggregation phenomenon that exists in traditional ORB algorithms. Capsule endoscopy (CE) is a widely used medical imaging tool for the diagnosis of gastrointestinal tract abnormalities like bleeding. However, CE captures a huge number of image frames, constituting a time-consuming and tedious task for medical experts to manually inspect. To address this issue, researchers have focused on computer-aided bleeding detection systems to automatically identify bleeding in real time. This paper presents a systematic review of the available state-of-the-art computer-aided bleeding detection algorithms for capsule endoscopy. The review was carried out by searching five different repositories (Scopus, PubMed, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, and ScienceDirect) for all original publications on computer-aided bleeding detection published between 2001 and 2023. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology was used to perform the review, and 147 full texts of scientific papers were reviewed. The contributions of this paper are: (I) a taxonomy for computer-aided bleeding detection algorithms for capsule endoscopy is identified; (II) the available state-of-the-art computer-aided bleeding detection algorithms, including various color spaces (RGB, HSV, etc.), feature extraction techniques, and classifiers, are discussed; and (III) the most effective algorithms for practical use are identified. The casting process involves pouring molten metal into a mold cavity. Currently, traditional object detection algorithms exhibit a low accuracy and are rarely used. An object detection model based on deep learning requires a large amount of memory and poses challenges in the deployment and resource allocation for resource limited pouring robots. To address the accurate identification and localization of pouring holes with limited resources, this paper designs a lightweight pouring robot hole detection algorithm named LPO-YOLOv5s, based on YOLOv5s. First, the MobileNetv3 network is introduced as a feature extraction network, to reduce model complexity and the number of parameters. Second, a depthwise separable information fusion module (DSIFM) is designed, and a lightweight operator called CARAFE is employed for feature upsampling, to enhance the feature extraction capability of the network. Finally, a dynamic head (DyHead) is adopted during the network prediction stage, to improve the detection performance. Extensive experiments were conducted on a pouring hole dataset, to evaluate the proposed method. Compared to YOLOv5s, our LPO-YOLOv5s algorithm reduces the parameter size by 45% and decreases computational costs by 55%, while sacrificing only 0.1% of mean average precision (mAP). Object detection is a critical technology of environmental perception for autonomous driving vehicle. The Convolutional Neural Network has gradually become a powerful tool in the field of vehicle detection because of its powerful ability of feature extraction. In aiming to reach the balance between speed and accuracy of detection in complex traffic scenarios, this paper proposes an improved lightweight and high-performance vehicle–pedestrian detection algorithm based on the YOLOv4. Firstly, the backbone network CSPDarknet53 is replaced by MobileNetv2 to reduce the number of parameters and raise the capability of feature extraction. Secondly, the method of multi-scale feature fusion is used to realize the information interaction among different feature layers. Finally, a coordinate attention mechanism is added to focus on the region of interest in the image by way of weight adjustment. The experimental results show that this improved model has a great performance in vehicle–pedestrian detection in traffic scenarios. Experimental results on PASCAL VOC datasets show that the improved model's mAP is 85.79% and speed is 35FPS, which has an increase of 4.31% and 16.7% compared to YOLOv4. Furthermore, the improved YOLOv4 model maintains a great balance between detection accuracy and speed on different datasets, indicating that it can be applied to vehicle–pedestrian detection in traffic scenarios. The pursuit of higher recognition accuracy and speed with smaller model sizes has been a major research topic in the detection of surface defects in steel. In this paper, we propose an improved high-speed and high-precision Efficient Fusion Coordination network (EFC-YOLO) without increasing the model's size. Since modifications to enhance feature extraction in shallow networks tend to affect the speed of model inference, in order to simultaneously ensure the accuracy and speed of detection, we add the improved Fusion-Faster module to the backbone network of YOLOv7. Partial Convolution (PConv) serves as the basic operator of the module, which strengthens the feature-extraction ability of shallow networks while maintaining speed. Additionally, we incorporate the Shortcut Coordinate Attention (SCA) mechanism to better capture the location information dependency, considering both lightweight design and accuracy. The de-weighted Bi-directional Feature Pyramid Network (BiFPN) structure used in the neck part of the network improves the original Path Aggregation Network (PANet)-like structure by adding step branches and reducing computations, achieving better feature fusion. In recent times, the realm of remote sensing has witnessed a remarkable surge in the area of deep learning, specifically in the domain of target recognition within synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. However, prevailing deep learning models have often placed undue emphasis on network depth and width while disregarding the imperative requirement for a harmonious equilibrium between accuracy and speed. To address this concern, this paper presents FCCD-SAR, a SAR target recognition algorithm based on the lightweight FasterNet network. Initially, a lightweight and SAR-specific feature extraction backbone is meticulously crafted to better align with SAR image data. Subsequently, an agile upsampling operator named CARAFE is introduced, augmenting the extraction of scattering information and fortifying target recognition precision. Moreover, the inclusion of a rapid, lightweight module, denoted as C3-Faster, serves to heighten both recognition accuracy and computational efficiency. Finally, in cognizance of the diverse scales and vast variations exhibited by SAR targets, a detection head employing DyHead's attention mechanism is implemented to adeptly capture feature information across multiple scales, elevating recognition performance on SAR targets. To ensure the safe operation of highway traffic lines, given the imperfect feature extraction of existing road pit defect detection models and the practicability of detection equipment, this paper proposes a lightweight target detection algorithm with enhanced feature extraction based on the YOLO (You Only Look Once) algorithm. The BIFPN (Bidirectional Feature Pyramid Network) network structure is used for multi-scale feature fusion to enhance the feature extraction ability, and Varifocal Loss is used to optimize the sample imbalance problem, which improves the accuracy of road defect target detection. In the evaluation test of the model in the constructed PCD1 (Pavement Check Dataset) dataset, the mAP@.5 (mean Average Precision when IoU = 0.5) of the BV-YOLOv5S (BiFPN Varifocal Loss-YOLOv5S) model increased by 4.1%, 3%, and 0.9%, respectively, compared with the YOLOv3-tiny, YOLOv5S, and B-YOLOv5S (BiFPN-YOLOv5S; BV-YOLOv5S does not use the Improved Focal Loss function) models. Multi-robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) systems employing 2D lidar scans are effective for exploration and navigation within GNSS-limited environments. However, scalability concerns arise with larger environments and increased robot numbers, as 2D mapping necessitates substantial processor memory and inter-robot communication bandwidth. Thus, data compression prior to transmission becomes imperative. This study investigates the problem of communication-efficient multi-robot SLAM based on 2D maps and introduces an architecture that enables compressed communication, facilitating the transmission of full maps with significantly reduced bandwidth. We propose a framework employing a lightweight feature extraction Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for a full map, followed by an encoder combining Huffman and Run-Length Encoding (RLE) algorithms to further compress a full map. Subsequently, a lightweight recovery CNN was designed to restore map features. Experimental validation involves applying our compressed communication framework to a two-robot SLAM system. The results demonstrate that our approach reduces communication overhead by 99% while maintaining map quality. Cooperative perception in the field of connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs) aims to overcome the inherent limitations of single-vehicle perception systems, including long-range occlusion, low resolution, and susceptibility to weather interference. In this regard, we propose a high-precision 3D object detection V2V cooperative perception algorithm. The algorithm utilizes a voxel grid-based statistical filter to effectively denoise point cloud data to obtain clean and reliable data. In addition, we design a feature extraction network based on the fusion of voxels and PointPillars and encode it to generate BEV features, which solves the spatial feature interaction problem lacking in the PointPillars approach and enhances the semantic information of the extracted features. A maximum pooling technique is used to reduce the dimensionality and generate pseudoimages, thereby skipping complex 3D convolutional computation. To facilitate effective feature fusion, we design a feature level-based crossvehicle feature fusion module. Experimental validation is conducted using the OPV2V dataset to assess vehicle coperception performance and compare it with existing mainstream coperception algorithms. Ablation experiments are also carried out to confirm the contributions of this approach. Since light propagation in water bodies is subject to absorption and scattering effects, underwater images using only conventional intensity cameras will suffer from low brightness, blurred images, and loss of details. In this paper, a deep fusion network is applied to underwater polarization images; that is, the underwater polarization images are fused with intensity images using the deep learning method. To construct a training dataset, we establish an experimental setup to obtain underwater polarization images and perform appropriate transformations to expand the dataset. Next, an end-to-end learning framework based on unsupervised learning and guided by an attention mechanism is constructed for fusing polarization and light intensity images. The loss function and weight parameters are elaborated. The produced dataset is used to train the network under different loss weight parameters, and the fused images are evaluated based on different image evaluation metrics. The results show that the fused underwater images are more detailed. Compared with light intensity images, the information entropy and standard deviation of the proposed method increase by 24.48% and 139%. The image processing results are better than other fusion-based methods. In addition, the improved U-net network structure is used to extract features for image segmentation. The results show that the target segmentation based on the proposed method is feasible under turbid water. The proposed method does not require manual adjustment of weight parameters, has faster operation speed, and has strong robustness and self-adaptability, which is important for research in vision fields, such as ocean detection and underwater target recognition. The counting of surgical instruments is an important task to ensure surgical safety and patient health. However, due to the uncertainty of manual operations, there is a risk of missing or miscounting instruments. Applying computer vision technology to the instrument counting process can not only improve efficiency, but also reduce medical disputes and promote the development of medical informatization. However, during the counting process, surgical instruments may be densely arranged or obstruct each other, and they may be affected by different lighting environments, all of which can affect the accuracy of instrument recognition. In addition, similar instruments may have only minor differences in appearance and shape, which increases the difficulty of identification. To address these issues, this paper improves the YOLOv7x object detection algorithm and applies it to the surgical instrument detection task. First, the RepLK Block module is introduced into the YOLOv7x backbone network, which can increase the effective receptive field and guide the network to learn more shape features. Second, the ODConv structure is introduced into the neck module of the network, which can significantly enhance the feature extraction ability of the basic convolution operation of the CNN and capture more rich contextual information. At the same time, we created the OSI26 data set, which contains 452 images and 26 surgical instruments, for model training and evaluation. The experimental results show that our improved algorithm exhibits higher accuracy and robustness in surgical instrument detection tasks, with F1, AP, AP50, and AP75 reaching 94.7%, 91.5%, 99.1%, and 98.2%, respectively, which are 4.6%, 3.1%, 3.6%, and 3.9% higher than the baseline. Compared to other mainstream object detection algorithms, our method has significant advantages. Structural health monitoring (SHM) systems are used to analyze the health of infrastructures such as bridges, using data from various types of sensors. While SHM systems consist of various stages, feature extraction and pattern recognition steps are the most important. Consequently, signal processing techniques in the feature extraction stage and machine learning algorithms in the pattern recognition stage play an effective role in analyzing the health of bridges. In other words, there exists a plethora of signal processing techniques and machine learning algorithms, and the selection of the appropriate technique/algorithm is guided by the limitations of each technique/algorithm. The selection also depends on the requirements of SHM in terms of damage identification level and operating conditions. This has provided the motivation to conduct a Systematic literature review (SLR) of feature extraction techniques and pattern recognition algorithms for the structural health monitoring of bridges. The existing literature reviews describe the current trends in the field with different focus aspects. However, a systematic literature review that presents an in-depth comparative study of different applications of machine learning algorithms in the field of SHM of bridges does not exist. Furthermore, there is a lack of analytical studies that investigate the SHM systems in terms of several design considerations including feature extraction techniques, analytical approaches (classification/ regression), operational functionality levels (diagnosis/prognosis) and system implementation techniques (data-driven/model-based). Consequently, this paper identifies 45 recent research practices (during 2016–2023), pertaining to feature extraction techniques and pattern recognition algorithms in SHM for bridges through an SLR process. First, the identified research studies are classified into three different categories: supervised learning algorithms, neural networks and a combination of both. Subsequently, an in-depth analysis of various machine learning algorithms is performed in each category. Moreover, the analysis of selected research studies (total = 45) in terms of feature extraction techniques is made, and 25 different techniques are identified. Furthermore, this article also explores other design considerations like analytical approaches in the pattern recognition process, operational functionality and system implementation. Traffic sign detection is an important part of environment-aware technology and has great potential in the field of intelligent transportation. In recent years, deep learning has been widely used in the field of traffic sign detection, achieving excellent performance. Due to the complex traffic environment, recognizing and detecting traffic signs is still a challenging project. In this paper, a model with global feature extraction capabilities and a multi-branch lightweight detection head is proposed to increase the detection accuracy of small traffic signs. First, a global feature extraction module is proposed to enhance the ability of extracting features and capturing the correlation within the features through self-attention mechanism. Second, a new, lightweight parallel decoupled detection head is proposed to suppress redundant features and separate the output of the regression task from the classification task. Finally, we employ a series of data enhancements to enrich the context of the dataset and improve the robustness of the network. We conducted a large number of experiments to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The accuracy of the proposed algorithm is 86.3%, the recall is 82.1%, the mAP@0.5 is 86.5% and the mAP@0.5:0.95 is 65.6% in TT100K dataset, while the number of frames transmitted per second is stable at 73, which meets the requirement of real-time detection. The failure of insulators may seriously threaten the safe operation of the power system, where the state detection of high-voltage insulators is a must for the normal and safe operation of the power system. Based on the data of insulators in aerial images, this work explored an enhanced particle swarm algorithm to optimize the parameters of the support vector machine. A support vector machine model was therefore established for the identification of the normal and defective states of the insulators. This methodology works with the structure minimization principle of SVM and the characteristics of particle swarm fast optimization. First, the aerial insulator image was segmented as a target by way of the seed region growth based on double-layer cascade morphological improvements, and then, HOG features plus GLCM features were extracted as sample data. Finally, an ameliorated PSO-SVM classifier was designed to realize insulator state identification. Comparisons were made between PSO-SVM and conventional machine learning algorithms, SVM and Random Forest, and an optimization algorithm, Gray Wolf Optimization Support Vector Machine (GWO-SVM), and advanced neural network CNN. The experimental results showed that the performance of the algorithm proposed in this paper touched the top level, where the recognition accuracy rate was 92.11%, the precision rate 90%, the recall rate 94.74%, and the F1-score 92.31%. This paper proposes a data valuation algorithm for inertial measurement unit-based human activity recognition (IMU-based HAR) data based on meta reinforcement learning. Unlike previous studies that received feature-level input, the algorithm in this study added a feature extraction structure to the data valuation algorithm, and it can receive raw-level inputs and achieve excellent performance. As IMU-based HAR data are multivariate time-series data, the proposed algorithm incorporates an architecture capable of extracting both local and global features by inserting a transformer encoder after the one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) backbone in the data value estimator. In addition, the 1D-CNN-based stacking ensemble structure, which exhibits excellent efficiency and performance on IMU-based HAR data, is used as a predictor to supervise model training. The Berg balance scale (BBS) IMU-based HAR dataset and the public datasets, UCI-HAR, WISDM, and PAMAP2, are used for performance evaluation in this study. The valuation performance of the proposed algorithm is observed to be excellent on IMU-based HAR data. The rate of discovering corrupted data is higher than 96% on all datasets. Indoor 3D positioning is useful in multistory buildings, such as shopping malls, libraries, and airports. This study focuses on indoor 3D positioning using wireless access points (AP) in an environment without adding additional hardware facilities in large-scale complex places. The integration of a deep learning algorithm into indoor 3D positioning is studied, and a 3D dynamic positioning model based on temporal fingerprints is proposed. In contrast to the traditional positioning models with a single input, the proposed method uses a sliding time window to build a temporal fingerprint chip as the input of the positioning model to provide abundant information for positioning. Temporal information can be used to distinguish locations with similar fingerprint vectors and to improve the accuracy and robustness of positioning. Moreover, deep learning has been applied for the automatic extraction of spatiotemporal features. A temporal convolutional network (TCN) feature extractor is proposed in this paper, which adopts a causal convolution mechanism, dilated convolution mechanism, and residual connection mechanism and is not limited by the size of the convolution kernel. It is capable of learning hidden information and spatiotemporal relationships from the input features and the extracted spatiotemporal features are connected with a deep neural network (DNN) regressor to fit the complex nonlinear mapping relationship between the features and position coordinates to estimate the 3D position coordinates of the target. Finally, an open-source public dataset was used to verify the performance of the localization algorithm. Experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed positioning model and a comparison between the proposed model and existing models proved that the proposed model can provide more accurate three-dimensional position coordinates. At present, the UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) has been widely used both in civilian and military fields. Most of the current object detection algorithms used to detect UAVs require more parameters, and it is difficult to achieve real-time performance. In order to solve this problem while ensuring a high accuracy rate, we further lighten the model and reduce the number of parameters of the model. This paper proposes an accurate and lightweight UAV detection model based on YOLOv4. To verify the effectiveness of this model, we made a UAV dataset, which contains four types of UAVs and 20,365 images. Through comparative experiments and optimization of existing deep learning and object detection algorithms, we found a lightweight model to achieve an efficient and accurate rapid detection of UAVs. First, from the comparison of the one-stage method and the two-stage method, it is concluded that the one-stage method has better real-time performance and considerable accuracy in detecting UAVs. Then, we further compared the one-stage methods. In particular, for YOLOv4, we replaced MobileNet with its backbone network, modified the feature extraction network, and replaced standard convolution with depth-wise separable convolution, which greatly reduced the parameters and realized 82 FPS and 93.52% mAP while ensuring high accuracy and taking into account the real-time performance. Birds play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity. Accurate identification of bird species is essential for conducting biodiversity surveys. However, fine-grained image recognition of birds encounters challenges due to large within-class differences and small inter-class differences. To solve this problem, our study took a part-based approach, dividing the identification task into two parts: part detection and identification classification. We proposed an improved bird part detection algorithm based on YOLOv5, which can handle partial overlap and complex environmental conditions between part objects. The backbone network incorporates the Res2Net-CBAM module to enhance the receptive fields of each network layer, strengthen the channel characteristics, and improve the sensitivity of the model to important information. Additionally, in order to boost data on features extraction and channel self-regulation, we have integrated CBAM attention mechanisms into the neck. The success rate of our suggested model, according to experimental findings, is 86.6%, 1.2% greater than the accuracy of the original model. Furthermore, when compared with other algorithms, our model's accuracy shows noticeable improvement. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) remain the principal mean of positioning in many applications and systems, but in several types of environment, the performance of standalone receivers is degraded. Although many works show the benefits of the integration between GNSS and Inertial Navigation Systems (INSs), tightly-coupled architectures are mainly implemented in professional devices and are based on high-grade Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs). This paper investigates the performance improvements enabled by the tight integration, using low-cost sensors and a mass-market GNSS receiver. Performance is assessed through a series of tests carried out in real urban scenarios and is compared against commercial modules, operating in standalone mode or featuring loosely-coupled integrations. Human pose estimation refers to the estimation of the location of body parts and how they are connected in an image. Human pose estimation from monocular images has wide applications (e.g., image indexing). Several surveys on human pose estimation can be found in the literature, but they focus on a certain category; for example, model-based approaches or human motion analysis, etc. As far as we know, an overall review of this problem domain has yet to be provided. Furthermore, recent advancements based on deep learning have brought novel algorithms for this problem. In this paper, a comprehensive survey of human pose estimation from monocular images is carried out including milestone works and recent advancements. Based on one standard pipeline for the solution of computer vision problems, this survey splits the problem into several modules: feature extraction and description, human body models, and modeling methods. Problem modeling methods are approached based on two means of categorization in this survey. One way to categorize includes top-down and bottom-up methods, and another way includes generative and discriminative methods. Considering the fact that one direct application of human pose estimation is to provide initialization for automatic video surveillance, there are additional sections for motion-related methods in all modules: motion features, motion models, and motion-based methods. A wireless sensor network that consists of nodes with a sound sensor can be used to obtain context awareness in home environments. However, the limited processing power of wireless nodes offers a challenge when extracting features from the signal, and subsequently, classifying the source. Although multiple papers can be found on different methods of sound classification, none of these are aimed at limited hardware or take the efficiency of the algorithms into account. In this paper, we compare and evaluate several classification methods on a real sensor platform using different feature types and classifiers, in order to find an approach that results in a good classifier that can run on limited hardware. To be as realistic as possible, we trained our classifiers using sound waves from many different sources. We conclude that despite the fact that the classifiers are often of low quality due to the highly restricted hardware resources, sufficient performance can be achieved when (1) the window length for our classifiers is increased, and (2) if we apply a two-step approach that uses a refined classification after a global classification has been performed. To meet the practical needs of detecting various defects on the pointer surface and solve the difficulty of detecting some defects on the pointer surface, this paper proposes a transfer learning and improved Cascade-RCNN deep neural network (TICNET) algorithm for detecting pointer defects. Firstly, the convolutional layers of ResNet-50 are reconstructed by deformable convolution, which enhances the learning of pointer surface defects by feature extraction network. Furthermore, the problems of missing detection caused by internal differences and weak features are effectively solved. Secondly, the idea of online hard example mining (OHEM) is used to improve the Cascade-RCNN detection network, which achieve accurate classification of defects. Finally, based on the fact that common pointer defect dataset and pointer defect dataset established in this paper have the same low-level visual characteristics. The network is pre-trained on the common defect dataset, and weights are transferred to the defect dataset established in this paper, which reduces the training difficulty caused by too few data. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a 0.933 detection rate and a 0.873 mean average precision when the threshold of intersection over union is 0.5, and it realizes high precision detection of pointer surface defects. Myoelectric prosthesis has become an important aid to disabled people. Although it can help people to recover to a nearly normal life, whether they can adapt to severe working conditions is a subject that is yet to be studied. Generally speaking, the working environment is dominated by vibration. This paper takes the gripping action as its research object, and focuses on the identification of grasping intentions under different vibration frequencies in different working conditions. In this way, the possibility of the disabled people who wear myoelectric prosthesis to work in various vibration environment is studied. In this paper, an experimental test platform capable of simulating 0–50 Hz vibration was established, and the Surface Electromyography (sEMG) signals of the human arm in the open and grasping states were obtained through the MP160 physiological record analysis system. Considering the reliability of human intention recognition and the rapidity of algorithm processing, six different time-domain features and the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) classifier were selected as the sEMG signal feature extraction and recognition algorithms in this paper. When two kinds of features, Zero Crossing (ZC) and Root Mean Square (RMS), were used as input, the accuracy of LDA algorithm can reach 96.9%. When three features, RMS, Minimum Value (MIN), and Variance (VAR), were used as inputs, the accuracy of the LDA algorithm can reach 98.0%. When the six features were used as inputs, the accuracy of the LDA algorithm reached 98.4%. In the analysis of different vibration frequencies, it was found that when the vibration frequency reached 20 Hz, the average accuracy of the LDA algorithm in recognizing actions was low, while at 0 Hz, 40 Hz and 50 Hz, the average accuracy was relatively high. (1) Background: Small objects in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) images are often scattered throughout various regions of the image, such as the corners, and may be blocked by larger objects, as well as susceptible to image noise. Moreover, due to their small size, these objects occupy a limited area in the image, resulting in a scarcity of effective features for detection. (2) Methods: To address the detection of small objects in UAV imagery, we introduce a novel algorithm called High-Resolution Feature Pyramid Network Mamba-Based YOLO (HRMamba-YOLO). This algorithm leverages the strengths of a High-Resolution Network (HRNet), EfficientVMamba, and YOLOv8, integrating a Double Spatial Pyramid Pooling (Double SPP) module, an Efficient Mamba Module (EMM), and a Fusion Mamba Module (FMM) to enhance feature extraction and capture contextual information. Additionally, a new Multi-Scale Feature Fusion Network, High-Resolution Feature Pyramid Network (HRFPN), and FMM improved feature interactions and enhanced the performance of small object detection. (3) Results: For the VisDroneDET dataset, the proposed algorithm achieved a 4.4% higher Mean Average Precision (mAP) compared to YOLOv8-m. The experimental results showed that HRMamba achieved a mAP of 37.1%, surpassing YOLOv8-m by 3.8% (Dota1.5 dataset). For the UCAS_AOD dataset and the DIOR dataset, our model had a mAP 1.5% and 0.3% higher than the YOLOv8-m model, respectively. To be fair, all the models were trained without a pre-trained model. To solve the problems of low accuracy, low real-time performance, poor robustness and others caused by the complex environment, this paper proposes a face mask recognition and standard wear detection algorithm based on the improved YOLO-v4. Firstly, an improved CSPDarkNet53 is introduced into the trunk feature extraction network, which reduces the computing cost of the network and improves the learning ability of the model. Secondly, the adaptive image scaling algorithm can reduce computation and redundancy effectively. Thirdly, the improved PANet structure is introduced so that the network has more semantic information in the feature layer. At last, a face mask detection data set is made according to the standard wearing of masks. Deep learning is currently the mainstream method of object detection. Faster region-based convolutional neural network (Faster R-CNN) has a pivotal position in deep learning. It has impressive detection effects in ordinary scenes. However, under special conditions, there can still be unsatisfactory detection performance, such as the object having problems like occlusion, deformation, or small size. This paper proposes a novel and improved algorithm based on the Faster R-CNN framework combined with the Faster R-CNN algorithm with skip pooling and fusion of contextual information. This algorithm can improve the detection performance under special conditions on the basis of Faster R-CNN. The improvement mainly has three parts: The first part adds a context information feature extraction model after the conv5_3 of the convolutional layer; the second part adds skip pooling so that the former can fully obtain the contextual information of the object, especially for situations where the object is occluded and deformed; and the third part replaces the region proposal network (RPN) with a more efficient guided anchor RPN (GA-RPN), which can maintain the recall rate while improving the detection performance. The latter can obtain more detailed information from different feature layers of the deep neural network algorithm, and is especially aimed at scenes with small objects. Compared with Faster R-CNN, you only look once series (such as: YOLOv3), single shot detector (such as: SSD512), and other object detection algorithms, the algorithm proposed in this paper has an average improvement of 6.857% on the mean average precision (mAP) evaluation index while maintaining a certain recall rate. Object detection is one of the key tasks in an automatic driving system. Aiming to solve the problem of object detection, which cannot meet the detection speed and detection accuracy at the same time, a real-time object detection algorithm (MobileYOLO) is proposed based on YOLOv4. Firstly, the feature extraction network is replaced by introducing the MobileNetv2 network to reduce the number of model parameters; then, part of the standard convolution is replaced by depthwise separable convolution in PAnet and the head network to further reduce the number of model parameters. Finally, by introducing an improved lightweight channel attention modul—Efficient Channel Attention (ECA)—to improve the feature expression ability during feature fusion. The Single-Stage Headless (SSH) context module is introduced to the small object detection branch to increase the receptive field. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm has an accuracy rate of 90.7% on the KITTI data set. Compared with YOLOv4, the parameters of the proposed MobileYOLO model are reduced by 52.11 M, the model size is reduced to one-fifth, and the detection speed is increased by 70%. This paper presents a new method for a composite dictionary matching pursuit algorithm, which is applied to vibration sensor signal feature extraction and fault diagnosis of a gearbox. Three advantages are highlighted in the new method. First, the composite dictionary in the algorithm has been changed from multi-atom matching to single-atom matching. Compared to non-composite dictionary single-atom matching, the original composite dictionary multi-atom matching pursuit (CD-MaMP) algorithm can achieve noise reduction in the reconstruction stage, but it cannot dramatically reduce the computational cost and improve the efficiency in the decomposition stage. Therefore, the optimized composite dictionary single-atom matching algorithm (CD-SaMP) is proposed. Second, the termination condition of iteration based on the attenuation coefficient is put forward to improve the sparsity and efficiency of the algorithm, which adjusts the parameters of the termination condition constantly in the process of decomposition to avoid noise. Third, composite dictionaries are enriched with the modulation dictionary, which is one of the important structural characteristics of gear fault signals. Meanwhile, the termination condition of iteration settings, sub-feature dictionary selections and operation efficiency between CD-MaMP and CD-SaMP are discussed, aiming at gear simulation vibration signals with noise. The simulation sensor-based vibration signal results show that the termination condition of iteration based on the attenuation coefficient enhances decomposition sparsity greatly and achieves a good effect of noise reduction. Furthermore, the modulation dictionary achieves a better matching effect compared to the Fourier dictionary, and CD-SaMP has a great advantage of sparsity and efficiency compared with the CD-MaMP. The sensor-based vibration signals measured from practical engineering gearbox analyses have further shown that the CD-SaMP decomposition and reconstruction algorithm is feasible and effective. This paper presents a new segmentation-based algorithm for oil spill feature extraction from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) intensity images. The proposed algorithm combines a Voronoi tessellation, Bayesian inference and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) scheme. The shape and distribution features of dark spots can be obtained by segmenting a scene covering an oil spill and/or look-alikes into two homogenous regions: dark spots and their marine surroundings. The proposed algorithm is applied simultaneously to several real SAR intensity images and simulated SAR intensity images which are used for accurate evaluation. The results show that the proposed algorithm can extract the shape and distribution parameters of dark spot areas, which are useful for recognizing oil spills in a further classification stage. The lost-in-space star identification algorithm is able to identify stars without a priori attitude information and is arguably the most critical component of a star sensor system. In this paper, the 2009 survey by Spratling and Mortari is extended and recent lost-in-space star identification algorithms are surveyed. The covered literature is a qualitative representation of the current research in the field. A taxonomy of these algorithms based on their feature extraction method is defined. Furthermore, we show that in current literature the comparison of these algorithms can produce inconsistent conclusions. In this paper, a globally optimal algorithm based on a maximum feasible subsystem framework is proposed for robust pairwise registration of point cloud data. Registration is formulated as a branch-and-bound problem with mixed-integer linear programming. Among the putative matches of three-dimensional (3D) features between two sets of range data, the proposed algorithm finds the maximum number of geometrically correct correspondences in the presence of incorrect matches, and it estimates the transformation parameters in a globally optimal manner. The optimization requires no initialization of transformation parameters. Experimental results demonstrated that the presented algorithm was more accurate and reliable than state-of-the-art registration methods and showed robustness against severe outliers/mismatches. Horizontal auger boring (HAB) is a widely used trenchless technology for the high-accuracy installation of gravity or pressure pipelines on line and grade. Differing from other pipeline installations, HAB requires a more precise and automated guidance system for use in a practical project. This paper proposes an economic and enhanced automated optical guidance system, based on optimization research of light-emitting diode (LED) light target and five automated image processing bore-path deviation algorithms. An LED target was optimized for many qualities, including light color, filter plate color, luminous intensity, and LED layout. The image preprocessing algorithm, feature extraction algorithm, angle measurement algorithm, deflection detection algorithm, and auto-focus algorithm, compiled in MATLAB, are used to automate image processing for deflection computing and judging. After multiple indoor experiments, this guidance system is applied in a project of hot water pipeline installation, with accuracy controlled within 2 mm in 48-m distance, providing accurate line and grade controls and verifying the feasibility and reliability of the guidance system. Sleep-related conditions require high-cost and low-comfort diagnosis at the hospital during one night or longer. To overcome this situation, this work aims to evaluate an unobtrusive monitoring technique for sleep apnea. This paper presents, for the first time, the evaluation of contactless capacitively-coupled electrocardiography (ccECG) signals for the extraction of sleep apnea features, together with a comparison of different signal quality indicators. A multichannel ccECG system is used to collect signals from 15 subjects in a sleep environment from different positions. Reference quality labels were assigned for every 30-s segment. Quality indicators were calculated, and their signal classification performance was evaluated. Features for the detection of sleep apnea were extracted from capacitive and reference signals. Sleep apnea features related to heart rate and heart rate variability achieved high similarity to the reference values, with p-values of 0.94 and 0.98, which is in line with the more than 95% beat-matching obtained. Features related to signal morphology presented lower similarity with the reference, although signal similarity metrics of correlation and coherence were relatively high. Quality-based automatic classification of the signals had a maximum accuracy of 91%. Best-performing quality indicators were based on template correlation and beat-detection. Results suggest that using unobtrusive cardiac signals for the automatic detection of sleep apnea can achieve similar performance as contact signals, and indicates clinical value of ccECG. Moreover, signal segments can automatically be classified by the proposed quality metrics as a pre-processing step. Including contactless respiration signals is likely to improve the performance and provide a complete unobtrusive cardiorespiratory monitoring solution; this is a promising alternative that will allow the screening of more patients with higher comfort, for a longer time, and at a reduced cost. Early damage detection is critical for a large set of global ageing infrastructure. Structural Health Monitoring systems provide a sensor-based quantitative and objective approach to continuously monitor these structures, as opposed to traditional engineering visual inspection. Analysing these sensed data is one of the major Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) challenges. This paper presents a novel algorithm to detect and assess damage in structures such as bridges. This method applies tensor analysis for data fusion and feature extraction, and further uses one-class support vector machine on this feature to detect anomalies, i.e., structural damage. To evaluate this approach, we collected acceleration data from a sensor-based SHM system, which we deployed on a real bridge and on a laboratory specimen. The results show that our tensor method outperforms a state-of-the-art approach using the wavelet energy spectrum of the measured data. In the specimen case, our approach succeeded in detecting 92.5% of induced damage cases, as opposed to 61.1% for the wavelet-based approach. While our method was applied to bridges, its algorithm and computation can be used on other structures or sensor-data analysis problems, which involve large series of correlated data from multiple sensors.
