The role of macrophages in regulating the tumor microenvironment has spurned the exponential generation of nanoparticle targeting technologies. With the large amount of literature and the speed at which it is generated it is difficult to remain current with the most up-to-date literature. In this study we performed a topic modeling analysis of 854 abstracts of peer-reviewed literature for the most common usages of nanoparticle targeting of tumor associated macrophages (TAMs) in solid tumors. The data spans 20 years of literature, providing a broad perspective of the nanoparticle strategies. Our topic model found 6 distinct topics: Immune and TAMs, Nanoparticles, Imaging, Gene Delivery and Exosomes, Vaccines, and Multi-modal Therapies. We also found distinct nanoparticle usage, tumor types, and therapeutic trends across these topics. Moreover, we established that the topic model could be used to assign new papers into the existing topics, thereby creating a Living Review. Skin cancer has a significant impact on the lives of many individuals annually and is recognized as the most prevalent type of cancer. In the United States, an estimated annual incidence of approximately 3.5 million people receiving a diagnosis of skin cancer underscores its widespread prevalence. Furthermore, the prognosis for individuals afflicted with advancing stages of skin cancer experiences a substantial decline in survival rates. This paper is dedicated to aiding healthcare experts in distinguishing between benign and malignant skin cancer cases by employing a range of machine learning and deep learning techniques and different feature extractors and feature selectors to enhance the evaluation metrics. In this paper, different transfer learning models are employed as feature extractors, and to enhance the evaluation metrics, a feature selection layer is designed, which includes diverse techniques such as Univariate, Mutual Information, ANOVA, PCA, XGB, Lasso, Random Forest, and Variance. Among transfer models, DenseNet-201 was selected as the primary feature extractor to identify features from data. Subsequently, the Lasso method was applied for feature selection, utilizing diverse machine learning approaches such as MLP, XGB, RF, and NB. To optimize accuracy and precision, ensemble methods were employed to identify and enhance the best-performing models. Monkeypox (MPXV) is one of the infectious viruses which caused morbidity and mortality problems in these years. Despite its danger to public health, there is no approved drug to stand and handle MPXV. On the other hand, drug repurposing is a promising screening method for the low-cost introduction of approved drugs for emerging diseases and viruses which utilizes computational methods. Therefore, drug repurposing is a promising approach to suggesting approved drugs for the MPXV. This paper proposes a computational framework for MPXV antiviral prediction. To do this, we have generated a new virus-antiviral dataset. Moreover, we applied several machine learning and one deep learning method for virus-antiviral prediction. The suggested drugs by the learning methods have been investigated using docking studies. The target protein structure is modeled using homology modeling and, then, refined and validated. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first work to study deep learning methods for the prediction of MPXV antivirals. A timely and consistent assessment of crop yield will assist the farmers in improving their income, minimizing losses, and deriving strategic plans in agricultural commodities to adopt import-export policies. Crop yield predictions are one of the various challenges faced in the agriculture sector and play a significant role in planning and decision-making. Machine learning algorithms provided enough belief and proved their ability to predict crop yield. The selection of the most suitable crop is influenced by various environmental factors such as temperature, soil fertility, water availability, quality, and seasonal variations, as well as economic considerations such as stock availability, preservation capabilities, market demand, purchasing power, and crop prices. The paper outlines a framework used to evaluate the performance of various machine-learning algorithms for forecasting crop yields. The models were based on a range of prime parameters including pesticides, rainfall and average temperature. The Results of three machine learning algorithms, Categorical Boosting (CatBoost), Light Gradient-Boosting Machine (LightGBM), and eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) are compared and found more accurate than other algorithms in predicting crop yields. The RMSE and R2 values were calculated to compare the predicted and observed rice yields, resulting in the following values: CatBoost with 800 (0.24), LightGBM with 737 (0.33), and XGBoost with 744 (0.31). Circular reinforced concrete wound glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) columns and reinforced concrete filled GFRP columns are extensively utilized in civil engineering practice. Various factors influence the performance of these two types of GFRP columns, thereby impacting the whole project. Therefore, it is highly significant to establish the prediction models for ultimate displacement and ultimate bearing capacity to optimize the design of the two types of GFRP columns. In this study, based on the experiments conducted under different conditions on the two kinds of GFRP columns, automatic machine learning along with four other commonly used machine learning methods were employed for modeling to analyze how the column parameters (cross section shape, concrete strength, height of GFRP column, wound GFRP wall thickness, inner diameter of wound GFRP column) affect their performance. The differences in performance among these five machine learning methods were analyzed after modeling. Subsequently, we obtained the variation patterns in ultimate displacement and ultimate bearing capacity of the columns influenced by each parameter by testing the data using the optimal model. Based on these findings, the optimal design schemes for the two types of GFRP columns are proposed. The contribution of this paper is three-fold. First, AutoML sheds light on the automatic prediction of ultimate displacement and ultimate bearing capacity of GFRP column. Second, in this paper, two optimal design schemes of GFRP columns are proposed. Third, for AEC industrial practitioners, the whole process is automatic, accurate and less reliant on data expertise and the optimization design scheme proposed in the article is relatively scientific. The rural B&B industry is a key component of rural tourism, local economic development, and the wider rural revitalization strategy. Despite the abundance of tourism resources in Yunnan, the B&B sector faces significant challenges. It is therefore imperative to accurately identify the most pressing issues within the current B&B industry and formulate appropriate solutions to advance Yunnan's rural revitalization efforts. This study uses recent reviews of rural B&Bs on Ctrip.com and employs machine learning techniques, including Bert, CNN, LSTM, and GRU, to identify the key management challenges currently facing Yunnan's rural B&B industry. An analysis is then conducted to identify the key stakeholders involved in the process of improving the management of Yunnan's B&Bs. To assess the willingness of each stakeholder to support the improvement of the rural B&B industry, this paper establishes a three-party evolutionary game model and examines the dynamic evolutionary process of management improvement within Yunnan's rural B&B industry. Two scenarios of evolutionarily stable strategies are analyzed, and parameters impacting stakeholders' strategy choices are simulated and evaluated. The results show that: i) Improving the "human factor" is the top priority for the current management improvement because tourists are most concerned about the emotional experience. Operators need to focus on improving service attitude and emotional experience; ii) The main stakeholders in the current management optimization process of Yunnan B&Bs are the local government, B&B operators, and tourists. Under appropriate conditions, the evolutionarily stable strategy of (1, 1, 1) is reachable. iii) variables such as additional costs, tourists' choice preferences, and government penalties significantly affect the strategy choices of stakeholders, especially B&B operators. This paper offers effective strategies for improving B&B management that can benefit the government, B&B operators, and tourists, and ultimately contribute to the promotion of quality rural revitalization. Speech enhancement is crucial both for human and machine listening applications. Over the last decade, the use of deep learning for speech enhancement has resulted in tremendous improvement over the classical signal processing and machine learning methods. However, training a deep neural network is not only time-consuming; it also requires extensive computational resources and a large training dataset. Transfer learning, i.e. using a pretrained network for a new task, comes to the rescue by reducing the amount of training time, computational resources, and the required dataset, but the network still needs to be fine-tuned for the new task. This paper presents a novel method of speech denoising and dereverberation (SD&D) on an end-to-end frozen binaural anechoic speech separation network. The frozen network requires neither any architectural change nor any fine-tuning for the new task, as is usually required for transfer learning. The interaural cues of a source placed inside noisy and echoic surroundings are given as input to this pretrained network to extract the target speech from noise and reverberation. Although the pretrained model used in this paper has never seen noisy reverberant conditions during its training, it performs satisfactorily for zero-shot testing (ZST) under these conditions. It is because the pretrained model used here has been trained on the direct-path interaural cues of an active source and so it can recognize them even in the presence of echoes and noise. ZST on the same dataset on which the pretrained network was trained (homo-corpus) for the unseen class of interference, has shown considerable improvement over the weighted prediction error (WPE) algorithm in terms of four objective speech quality and intelligibility metrics. Also, the proposed model offers similar performance provided by a deep learning SD&D algorithm for this dataset under varying conditions of noise and reverberations. Depending on the degree of fracture, pelvic fracture can be accompanied by vascular damage, and in severe cases, it may progress to hemorrhagic shock. Pelvic radiography can quickly diagnose pelvic fractures, and the Association for Osteosynthesis Foundation and Orthopedic Trauma Association (AO/OTA) classification system is useful for evaluating pelvic fracture instability. This study aimed to develop a radiomics-based machine-learning algorithm to quickly diagnose fractures on pelvic X-ray and classify their instability. data used were pelvic anteroposterior radiographs of 990 adults over 18 years of age diagnosed with pelvic fractures, and 200 normal subjects. A total of 93 features were extracted based on radiomics:18 first-order, 24 GLCM, 16 GLRLM, 16 GLSZM, 5 NGTDM, and 14 GLDM features. To improve the performance of machine learning, the feature selection methods RFE, SFS, LASSO, and Ridge were used, and the machine learning models used LR, SVM, RF, XGB, MLP, KNN, and LGBM. Performance measurement was evaluated by area under the curve (AUC) by analyzing the receiver operating characteristic curve. The machine learning model was trained based on the selected features using four feature-selection methods. When the RFE feature selection method was used, the average AUC was higher than that of the other methods. Among them, the combination with the machine learning model SVM showed the best performance, with an average AUC of 0.75±0.06. By obtaining a feature-importance graph for the combination of RFE and SVM, it is possible to identify features with high importance. The AO/OTA classification of normal pelvic rings and pelvic fractures on pelvic AP radiographs using a radiomics-based machine learning model showed the highest AUC when using the SVM classification combination. Manifold visualisation techniques are commonly used to visualise high-dimensional datasets in physical sciences. In this paper, we apply a recently introduced manifold visualisation method, slisemap, on datasets from physics and chemistry. slisemap combines manifold visualisation with explainable artificial intelligence. Explainable artificial intelligence investigates the decision processes of black box machine learning models and complex simulators. With slisemap, we find an embedding such that data items with similar local explanations are grouped together. Hence, slisemap gives us an overview of the different behaviours of a black box model, where the patterns in the embedding reflect a target property. In this paper, we show how slisemap can be used and evaluated on physical data and that it is helpful in finding meaningful information on classification and regression models trained on these datasets. With recent technological advancements, quantitative analysis has become an increasingly important area within professional sports. However, the manual process of collecting data on relevant match events like passes, goals and tacklings comes with considerable costs and limited consistency across providers, affecting both research and practice. In football, while automatic detection of events from positional data of the players and the ball could alleviate these issues, it is not entirely clear what accuracy current state-of-the-art methods realistically achieve because there is a lack of high-quality validations on realistic and diverse data sets. This paper adds context to existing research by validating a two-step rule-based pass and shot detection algorithm on four different data sets using a comprehensive validation routine that accounts for the temporal, hierarchical and imbalanced nature of the task. Our evaluation shows that pass and shot detection performance is highly dependent on the specifics of the data set. In accordance with previous studies, we achieve F-scores of up to 0.92 for passes, but only when there is an inherent dependency between event and positional data. We find a significantly lower accuracy with F-scores of 0.71 for passes and 0.65 for shots if event and positional data are independent. This result, together with a critical evaluation of existing methodologies, suggests that the accuracy of current football event detection algorithms operating on positional data is currently overestimated. Further analysis reveals that the temporal extraction of passes and shots from positional data poses the main challenge for rule-based approaches. Our results further indicate that the classification of plays into shots and passes is a relatively straightforward task, achieving F-scores between 0.83 to 0.91 ro rule-based classifiers and up to 0.95 for machine learning classifiers. We show that there exist simple classifiers that accurately differentiate shots from passes in different data sets using a low number of human-understandable rules. Operating on basic spatial features, our classifiers provide a simple, objective event definition that can be used as a foundation for more reliable event-based match analysis. Internet finance has permeated into myriad households, bringing about lifestyle convenience alongside potential risks. Presently, internet finance enterprises are progressively adopting machine learning and other artificial intelligence methods for risk alertness. What is the current status of the application of various machine learning models and algorithms across different institutions? Is there an optimal machine learning algorithm suited for the majority of internet finance platforms and application scenarios? Scholars have embarked on a series of studies addressing these questions; however, the focus predominantly lies in comparing different algorithms within specific platforms and contexts, lacking a comprehensive discourse and summary on the utilization of machine learning in this domain. Thus, based on the data from Web of Science and Scopus databases, this paper conducts a systematic literature review on all aspects of machine learning in internet finance risk in recent years, based on publications trends, geographical distribution, literature focus, machine learning models and algorithms, and evaluations. The research reveals that machine learning, as a nascent technology, whether through basic algorithms or intricate algorithmic combinations, has made significant strides compared to traditional credit scoring methods in predicting accuracy, time efficiency, and robustness in internet finance risk management. Nonetheless, there exist noticeable disparities among different algorithms, and factors such as model structure, sample data, and parameter settings also influence prediction accuracy, although generally, updated algorithms tend to achieve higher accuracy. Consequently, there is no one-size-fits-all approach applicable to all platforms; each platform should enhance its machine learning models and algorithms based on its unique characteristics, data, and the development of AI technology, starting from key evaluation indicators to mitigate internet finance risks. Debris flow is a sudden natural disaster in mountainous areas, which seriously threatens the lives and property of nearby residents. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the volume of debris flow accurately and reliably. However, the predictions of back propagation neural networks are unstable and inaccurate due to the limited dataset. In this study, the Cubic map optimizes the initial population position of the whale optimization algorithm. Meanwhile, the adaptive weight adjustment strategy optimizes the weight value in the shrink-wrapping mechanism of the whale optimization algorithm. Then, the improved whale optimization algorithm optimizes the final weights and thresholds in the back propagation neural network. Finally, to verify the performance of the final model, sixty debris flow gullies caused by earthquakes in Longmenshan area are selected as the research objects. Through correlation analysis, 4 main factors affecting the volume of debris flow are determined and inputted into the model for training and prediction. Four methods (support vector machine regression, XGBoost, back propagation neural network optimized by artificial bee colony algorithm, back propagation neural network optimized by grey wolf optimization algorithm) are used to compare the prediction performance and reliability. The results indicate that loose sediments from co-seismic landslides are the most important factor influencing the flow of debris flows in the earthquake area. The mean absolute percentage error, mean absolute error and R2 of the final model are 0.193, 29.197 × 104 m3 and 0.912, respectively. The final model is more accurate and stable when the dataset is insufficient and under complexity. This is attributed to the optimization of WOA by Cubic map and adaptive weight adjustment. Background: Thrombus formation in vitro under flow conditions is one of the most widely used methods to study haemostasis and to evaluate the activity of potential antithrombotic compounds. Assessment of the results of these experiments is often based on a quantification of microscopic images of thrombi. In a majority of reported analysis all thrombi visualised in an image are quantified as one homogenous class. In some protocols, qualitative assessment of thrombi morphology based on a visual comparison of evaluated images with representative images of predefined classes of thrombi are performed by experienced analysts. In presented paper we show how the quantitative analysis can be improved by classification of thrombi on the basis of defined morphological features prior to quantification and we suggest that machine learning-based approach can improve this way of analysis. Methods: We tested the applicability of machine learning-based segmentation and classification of thrombi images to improve the outcome of quantification of the results of flow chamber assays. For this, we used the public domain machine learning software Ilastik for bioimage analysis developed at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory. A model was trained to distinguish two classes of thrombi based on certain morphological features which apparently correspond to the stage of thrombus development. Thrombi formed in the presence of a model antiplatelet compound—abciximab or in control conditions were quantified with the use of this model and the results were compared to quantification where all thrombi were quantified as a homogenous class. Results: Machine learning-based analysis was capable of effective distinguishing of two classes of morphologically distinct platelet aggregates. The use of the model which segmented and quantified only the objects recognized as compacted structures provided results which better mirrored the actual effect of an antiplatelet treatment than quantification based on all structures. Conclusions: Classification of thrombi enabled by machine learning increases the relevance of quantitative information and allows better evaluation of the results of in vitro thrombosis assays. In recent years, considerable and valuable research progress has been made in indoor positioning technologies based on WLAN Radio Frequency (RF) fingerprinting, identifying it as one of the most promising positioning technologies with substantial potential for wider adoption. However, indoor environmental factors significantly influence the propagation of wireless RF signals, resulting in a considerable decrease in positioning accuracy as the indoor environmental conditions vary. Thus, effectively mitigating the impact of indoor environmental factors on WLAN RF fingerprinting-based positioning systems has become a crucial research problem. Currently, there is a dearth of comprehensive research on the influence of indoor climatic factors, particularly the variations in relative humidity, on the propagation of WLAN RF signals within indoor spaces and its consequential impact on positioning accuracy. To address the aforementioned issues, this paper proposes an Adaptive expansion fingerprint database (AeFd) model based on a regression learning algorithm. The AeFd, through the design of a relationship model describing the interaction between fingerprint databases under varying relative humidity, allows the fingerprint database expanded by AeFd to dynamically adapt to the changes in indoor relative humidity. Our experiments show that using the AeFd model with the KNN algorithm, a 5% performance improvement was observed over 10 days and an 8% improvement over 10 months. According to experimental test results, the fingerprint database expansion model AeFd proposed in this paper can effectively expand the fingerprint database under different relative humidity levels, thereby significantly enhancing the positioning performance of the system and improving its stability. This paper presents a multi-algorithm fusion model (StackingGroup) based on the Stacking ensemble learning framework to address the variable selection problem in high-dimensional group structure data. The proposed algorithm takes into account the differences in data observation and training principles of different algorithms. It leverages the strengths of each model and incorporates Stacking ensemble learning with multiple group structure regularization methods. The main approach involves dividing the data set into K parts on average, using more than 10 algorithms as basic learning models, and selecting the base learner based on low correlation, strong prediction ability, and small model error. Finally, we selected the grSubset + grLasso, grLasso, and grSCAD algorithms as the base learners for the Stacking algorithm. The Lasso algorithm was used as the meta-learner to create a comprehensive algorithm called StackingGroup. This algorithm is designed to handle high-dimensional group structure data. Simulation experiments showed that the proposed method outperformed other R2, RMSE, and MAE prediction methods. Lastly, we applied the proposed algorithm to investigate the risk factors of low birth weight in infants and young children. The final results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.508 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.668. The obtained values are smaller compared to those obtained from a single model, indicating that the proposed method surpasses other algorithms in terms of prediction accuracy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is critical to identify and detect hazardous, flammable, explosive, and poisonous gases in the realms of industrial production and medical diagnostics. To detect and categorize a range of common hazardous gasses, we propose an attention-based Long Short term memory Full Convolutional network (ALSTM-FCN) in this paper. We adjust the network parameters of ALSTM-FCN using the Sparrow search algorithm (SSA) based on this, by comparison, SSA outperforms Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Algorithm, Genetic Algorithm (GA), Gray Wolf Optimization (GWO) Algorithm, Cuckoo Search (CS) Algorithm and other traditional optimization algorithms. We evaluate the model using University of California-Irvine (UCI) datasets and compare it with LSTM and FCN. The findings indicate that the ALSTM-FCN hybrid model has a better reliability test accuracy of 99.461% than both LSTM (89.471%) and FCN (96.083%). Furthermore, AdaBoost, logistic regression (LR), extra tree (ET), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF), K-nearest neighbor (KNN) and other models were trained. The suggested approach outperforms the conventional machine learning model in terms of gas categorization accuracy, according to experimental data. The article explains the economic dynamics of the sports industry with adoption of deep learning algorithms and data mining methodology. Despite outstanding improvements in research of sports industry, a significant gap prevails with regard to proper quantification of economic benefits of this industry. Therefore, the current research is an attempt to filling this gap by proposing a specific economic model for the sports sector. This paper examines the data of sports industry covering the time span of 2012 to 2022 by using data mining technology for quantitative analyses. Deep learning algorithms and data mining techniques transform the gained information from sports industry databases into sophisticated economic models. The developed model then makes the efficient analysis of diverse datasets for underlying patterns and insights, crucial in realizing the economic trajectory of the industry. The findings of the study reveal the importance of sports industry for economic growth of China. Moreover, the application of deep learning algorithm highlights the importance of continuous learning and training on the economic data from the sports industry. It is, therefore, an entirely novel approach to build up an economic simulation framework using deep learning and data mining, tailored to the intricate dynamics of the sports industry. In response to the rapidly evolving threat landscape in network security, this paper proposes an Evolutionary Machine Learning Algorithm designed for robust intrusion detection. We specifically address challenges such as adaptability to new threats and scalability across diverse network environments. Our approach is validated using two distinct datasets: BoT-IoT, reflecting a range of IoT-specific attacks, and UNSW-NB15, offering a broader context of network intrusion scenarios using GA based hybrid DT-SVM. This selection facilitates a comprehensive evaluation of the algorithm's effectiveness across varying attack vectors. Performance metrics including accuracy, recall, and false positive rates are meticulously chosen to demonstrate the algorithm's capability to accurately identify and adapt to both known and novel threats, thereby substantiating the algorithm's potential as a scalable and adaptable security solution. This study aims to advance the development of intrusion detection systems that are not only reactive but also preemptively adaptive to emerging cyber threats." During the feature selection step, a GA is used to discover and preserve the most relevant characteristics from the dataset by using evolutionary principles. Smart indoor tourist attractions, such as smart museums and aquariums, require a significant investment in indoor localization devices. The use of Global Positioning Systems on smartphones is unsuitable for scenarios where dense materials such as concrete and metal blocks weaken GPS signals, which is most often the case in indoor tourist attractions. With the help of deep learning, indoor localization can be done region by region using smartphone images. This approach requires no investment in infrastructure and reduces the cost and time needed to turn museums and aquariums into smart museums or smart aquariums. In this paper, we propose using deep learning algorithms to classify locations based on smartphone camera images for indoor tourist attractions. We evaluate our proposal in a real-world scenario in Brazil. We extensively collect images from ten different smartphones to classify biome-themed fish tanks in the Pantanal Biopark, creating a new dataset of 3654 images. We tested seven state-of-the-art neural networks, three of them based on transformers. On average, we achieved a precision of about 90% and a recall and f-score of about 89%. Aberrant methylation patterns in human DNA have great potential for the discovery of novel diagnostic and disease progression biomarkers. In this paper we used machine learning algorithms to identify promising methylation sites for diagnosing cancerous tissue and to classify patients based on methylation values at these sites. We used genome-wide DNA methylation patterns from both cancerous and normal tissue samples, obtained from the Genomic Data Commons consortium and trialled our methods on three types of urological cancer. A decision tree was used to identify the methylation sites most useful for diagnosis. The identified locations were then used to train a neural network to classify samples as either cancerous or non-cancerous. Using this two-step approach we found strong indicative biomarker panels for each of the three cancer types. Art research has long aimed to unravel the complex associations between specific attributes, such as color, complexity, and emotional expressiveness, and art judgments, including beauty, creativity, and liking. However, the fundamental distinction between attributes as inherent characteristics or features of the artwork and judgments as subjective evaluations remains an exciting topic. This paper reviews the literature of the last half century, to identify key attributes, and employs machine learning, specifically Gradient Boosted Decision Trees (GBDT), to predict 13 art judgments along 17 attributes. Ratings from 78 art novice participants were collected for 54 Western artworks. Our GBDT models successfully predicted 13 judgments significantly. Notably, judged creativity and disturbing/irritating judgments showed the highest predictability, with the models explaining 31% and 32% of the variance, respectively. The attributes emotional expressiveness, valence, symbolism, as well as complexity emerged as consistent and significant contributors to the models' performance. Content-representational attributes played a more prominent role than formal-perceptual attributes. Moreover, we found in some cases non-linear relationships between attributes and judgments with sudden inclines or declines around medium levels of the rating scales. By uncovering these underlying patterns and dynamics in art judgment behavior, our research provides valuable insights to advance the understanding of aesthetic experiences considering visual art, inform cultural practices, and inspire future research in the field of art appreciation. Student academic achievement is an important indicator for evaluating the quality of education, especially, the achievement prediction empowers educators in tailoring their instructional approaches, thereby fostering advancements in both student performance and the overall educational quality. However, extracting valuable insights from vast educational data to develop effective strategies for evaluating student performance remains a significant challenge for higher education institutions. Traditional machine learning (ML) algorithms often struggle to clearly delineate the interplay between the factors that influence academic success and the resulting grades. To address these challenges, this paper introduces the XGB-SHAP model, a novel approach for predicting student achievement that combines Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) with SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP). The model was applied to a dataset from a public university in Wuhan, encompassing the academic records of 87 students who were enrolled in a Japanese course between September 2021 and June 2023. The findings indicate the model excels in accuracy, achieving a Mean absolute error (MAE) of approximately 6 and an R-squared value near 0.82, surpassing three other ML models. The model further uncovers how different instructional modes influence the factors that contribute to student achievement. This insight supports the need for a customized approach to feature selection that aligns with the specific characteristics of each teaching mode. Combining different drugs synergistically is an essential aspect of developing effective treatments. Although there is a plethora of research on computational prediction for new combination therapies, there is limited to no research on combination therapies in the treatment of viral diseases. This paper proposes AI-based models for predicting novel antiviral combinations to treat virus diseases synergistically. To do this, we assembled a comprehensive dataset comprising information on viral strains, drug compounds, and their known interactions. As far as we know, this is the first dataset and learning model on combination therapy for viruses. Our proposal includes using a random forest model, an SVM model, and a deep model to train viral combination therapy. The machine learning models showed the highest performance, and the predicted values were validated by a t-test, indicating the effectiveness of the proposed methods. One of the predicted combinations of acyclovir and ribavirin has been experimentally confirmed to have a synergistic antiviral effect against herpes simplex type-1 virus, as described in the literature. Educational Data Mining (EDM) holds promise in uncovering insights from educational data to predict and enhance students' performance. This paper presents an advanced EDM system tailored for classifying and improving tertiary students' programming skills. Our approach emphasizes effective feature engineering, appropriate classification techniques, and the integration of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to elucidate model decisions. Through rigorous experimentation, including an ablation study and evaluation of six machine learning algorithms, we introduce a novel ensemble method, Stacking-SRDA, which outperforms others in accuracy, precision, recall, f1-score, ROC curve, and McNemar test. Domain Generation Algorithms (DGAs) are used by malware to generate pseudorandom domain names to establish communication between infected bots and command and control servers. While DGAs can be detected by machine learning (ML) models with great accuracy, offering DGA detection as a service raises privacy concerns when requiring network administrators to disclose their DNS traffic to the service provider. The main scientific contribution of this paper is to propose the first end-to-end framework for privacy-preserving classification as a service of domain names into DGA (malicious) or non-DGA (benign) domains. Our framework achieves these goals by carefully designed protocols that combine two privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs), namely secure multi-party computation (MPC) and differential privacy (DP). Through MPC, our framework enables an enterprise network administrator to outsource the problem of classifying a DNS (Domain Name System) domain as DGA or non-DGA to an external organization without revealing any information about the domain name. Moreover, the service provider's ML model used for DGA detection is never revealed to the network administrator. Furthermore, by using DP, we also ensure that the classification result cannot be used to learn information about individual entries of the training data. Finally, we leverage post-training float16 quantization of deep learning models in MPC to achieve efficient, secure DGA detection. We demonstrate that by using quantization achieves a significant speed-up, resulting in a 23% to 42% reduction in inference runtime without reducing accuracy using a three party secure computation protocol tolerating one corruption. Previous solutions are not end-to-end private, do not provide differential privacy guarantees for the model's outputs, and assume that model embeddings are publicly known. Identifying causal sentences from nuclear incident reports is essential for advancing nuclear safety research and applications. Nonetheless, accurately locating and labeling causal sentences in text data is challenging, and might benefit from the usage of automated techniques. In this paper, we introduce LERCause, a labeled dataset combined with labeling methods meant to serve as a foundation for the classification of causal sentences in the domain of nuclear safety. We used three BERT models (BERT, BioBERT, and SciBERT) to 10,608 annotated sentences from the Licensee Event Report (LER) corpus for predicting sentence labels (Causal vs. non-Causal). We also used a keyword-based heuristic strategy, three standard machine learning methods (Logistic Regression, Gradient Boosting, and Support Vector Machine), and a deep learning approach (Convolutional Neural Network; CNN) for comparison. We found that the BERT-centric models outperformed all other tested models in terms of all evaluation metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score). BioBERT resulted in the highest overall F1 score of 94.49% from the ten-fold cross-validation. Our dataset and coding framework can provide a robust baseline for assessing and comparing new causal sentences extraction techniques. Discrimination-aware classification methods remedy socioeconomic disparities exacerbated by machine learning systems. In this paper, we propose a novel data pre-processing technique that assigns weights to training instances in order to reduce discrimination without changing any of the inputs or labels. While the existing reweighing approach only looks into sensitive attributes, we refine the weights by utilizing both sensitive and insensitive ones. We formulate our weight assignment as a linear programming problem. The weights can be directly used in any classification model into which they are incorporated. We demonstrate three advantages of our approach on synthetic and benchmark datasets. First, discrimination reduction comes at a small cost in accuracy. Second, our method is more scalable than most other pre-processing methods. Third, the trade-off between fairness and accuracy can be explicitly monitored by model users. The relationship between morphological traits and ecological performance in birds is an important area of research, as it can help us to understand how birds are able to adapt and how they are affected by changes in their environment. Many studies have investigated the relationship between morphological traits and certain aspects of the performance and ecological niche of these animals. However, the relationship between morphological traits and the primary lifestyle of birds has not previously been explored. This paper aims to evaluate the predictive potential of morphological data to determine the primary lifestyle of birds through a tree-based machine learning algorithm. By doing this, it is also possible to evaluate these artificial categories that we used to split up birds and know whether they are suitable for dividing them in function of shared morphological characteristics or need a redefinition under more discriminant criteria. Supplementary dataset 1 of the AVONET project was used, which comprises the 11 morphological predictors used in this work and the classification according to the primary lifestyle for more than 95% of the existing bird species. For all morphological traits used, statistically significant univariate differences were found between primary lifestyles. The three fitted machine learning models showed high accuracy, in all cases above 78% and superior to the ones achieved through traditional approaches used as contrasts. The results obtained provide evidence that primary lifestyle can be predicted in birds based on morphological traits, as well as more insights about the relevance of functional traits for ecological modeling. This is another step forward in our mechanistic understanding of bird ecology, while exploring how birds have adapted to their environments and how they interact with their surroundings. Purpose: As agricultural technology continues to develop, the scale of planting and production of date fruit is increasing, which brings higher yields. However, the increasing yields also put a lot of pressure on the classification step afterward. Image recognition based on deep learning algorithms can help to identify and classify the date fruit species, even in natural light. Method: In this paper, a deep fusion model based on whale optimization and an artificial neural network for Arabian date classification is proposed. The dataset used in this study includes five classes of date fruit images (Barhi, Khalas, Meneifi, Naboot Saif, Sullaj). The process of designing each model can be divided into three phases. The first phase is feature extraction. The second phase is feature selection. The third phase is the training and testing phase. Finally, the best-performing model was selected and compared with the currently established models (Alexnet, Squeezenet, Googlenet, Resnet50). Results: The experimental results show that, after trying different combinations of optimization algorithms and classifiers, the highest test accuracy achieved by DeepDate was 95.9%. It takes less time to achieve a balance between classification accuracy and time consumption. In addition, the performance of DeepDate is better than that of many deep transfer learning models such as Alexnet, Squeezenet, Googlenet, VGG-19, NasNet, and Inception-V3. Conclusion: The proposed DeepDate improves the accuracy and efficiency of classifying date fruits and achieves better results in classification metrics such as accuracy and F1. DeepDate provides a promising classification solution for date fruit classification with higher accuracy. To further advance the industry, it is recommended that stakeholders invest in technology transfer programs to bring advanced image recognition and AI tools to smaller producers, enhancing sustainability and productivity across the sector. With the development of society and changes in the human living environment, people are increasingly attaching importance to their own health. Regarding medical imaging examinations of certain parts of the body, the process of medical image segmentation has become extremely important. This paper presents a novel hybrid algorithm: SAOBL-IA, a fusion of the Simulated Annealing(SA), Opposition-based Learning(OBL)and Island Algorithm(IA). The Island Algorithm itself suffers from slow convergence speed and the tendency to get stuck in local optimum. To address these limitations, we introduce opposition-based learning to enhance the search range and avoid local optimum. Furthermore, we leverage the simulated annealing approach to accelerate the convergence of SAOBL-IA. Comparing the experimental results, it can be seen that SAOBL-IA has better comprehensive performance. Subsequently, the SAOBL-IA algorithm is utilized in conjunction with an optimized two-dimensional OTSU fusion segmentation technique for the purpose of medical image processing. This study proposes an application of image segmentation based on the SAOBL-IA. The segmentation of pixels around the background and target regions using the two-dimensional OTSU method faces challenges in terms of accuracy. To address this issue, an adaptive thresholding technique known as Adaptive Forking is employed for optimization. By determining the slope of the fork based on the misclassified pixel ratio, enhanced segmentation accuracy can be achieved. This improved approach is then integrated with the SAOBL-IA algorithm and applied to the segmentation of lung medical images. The experimental findings show that the amalgamation of SAOBL-IA with the adaptive two-dimensional OTSU segmentation approach, as proposed in this study, manifests superior segmentation speed and enhanced precision in the context of medical image segmentation. The rise of social media has changed how people view connections. Machine Learning (ML)-based sentiment analysis and news categorization help understand emotions and access news. However, most studies focus on complex models requiring heavy resources and slowing inference times, making deployment difficult in resource-limited environments. In this paper, we process both structured and unstructured data, determining the polarity of text using the TextBlob scheme to determine the sentiment of news headlines. We propose a Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD)-based Ridge classifier (RC) for blending SGDR with an advanced string processing technique to effectively classify news articles. Additionally, we explore existing supervised and unsupervised ML algorithms to gauge the effectiveness of our SGDR classifier. The scalability and generalization capability of SGD and L2 regularization techniques in RCs to handle overfitting and balance bias and variance provide the proposed SGDR with better classification capability. Experimental results highlight that our string processing pipeline significantly boosts the performance of all ML models. Notably, our ensemble SGDR classifier surpasses all state-of-the-art ML algorithms, achieving an impressive 98.12% accuracy. McNemar's significance tests reveal that our SGDR classifier achieves a 1% significance level improvement over K-Nearest Neighbor, Decision Tree, and AdaBoost and a 5% significance level improvement over other algorithms. These findings underscore the superior proficiency of linear models in news categorization compared to tree-based and nonlinear counterparts. The vegetable sector is a vital pillar of society and an indispensable part of the national economic structure. As a significant segment of the agricultural market, accurately forecasting vegetable prices holds significant importance. Vegetable market pricing is subject to a myriad of complex influences, resulting in nonlinear patterns that conventional time series methodologies often struggle to decode. In this paper, we exploit the average daily price data of six distinct types of vegetables sourced from seven key wholesale markets in Beijing, spanning from 2009 to 2023. Upon training an LSTM model, we discovered that it exhibited exceptional performance on the test dataset. Demonstrating robust predictive performance across various vegetable categories, the LSTM model shows commendable generalization abilities. Moreover, LSTM model has a higher accuracy compared to several machine learning methods, including CNN-based time series forecasting approaches. With R2 score of 0.958 and MAE of 0.143, our LSTM model registers an enhancement of over 5% in forecast accuracy relative to conventional machine learning counterparts. Therefore, by predicting vegetable prices for the upcoming week, we envision this LSTM model application in real-world settings to aid growers, consumers, and policymakers in facilitating informed decision-making. This paper presents a novel approach to enhance the accuracy of patch-level Gleason grading in prostate histopathology images, a critical task in the diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer. This study shows that the Gleason grading accuracy can be improved by addressing the prevalent issue of label inconsistencies in the SICAPv2 prostate dataset, which employs a majority voting scheme for patch-level labels. We propose a multi-label ensemble deep-learning classifier that effectively mitigates these inconsistencies and yields more accurate results than the state-of-the-art works. Specifically, our approach leverages the strengths of three different one-vs-all deep learning models in an ensemble to learn diverse features from the histopathology images to individually indicate the presence of one or more Gleason grades (G3, G4, and G5) in each patch. These deep learning models have been trained using transfer learning to fine-tune a variant of the ResNet18 CNN classifier chosen after an extensive ablation study. Experimental results demonstrate that our multi-label ensemble classifier significantly outperforms traditional single-label classifiers reported in the literature by at least 14% and 4% on accuracy and f1-score metrics respectively. In almost every country, patents need to be renewed multiple times after they are granted. A patentee assesses the value of the patent and then pays a renewal fee to keep it active for another stipulated period. The factors that characterize the value of a patent is subjective. This paper aims to address the research gap of building an accurate model for predicting the renewal life (often considered as a substitute for the patent value) of Indian patents, and identification of significant factors that influence the renewal life. This study uses an extensive data set collected from the Indian Patent Office for all granted patents filed between 1995 and 2005. The popular statistical and machine learning algorithms do not result in accurate predictive models, because the patent renewal life distribution (at least for the Indian patents) shows unusual spikes at the two extreme values, which makes the modeling task more challenging. We propose a new two-stage hybrid model by combining an efficient multi-class classifier and a binomial regression model for predicting the complex renewal data distribution. We conducted a comparative analysis of the proposed model with several state-of-the-art machine learning and statistical models. The Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model is used to extract the text themes of newspaper news and construct the Chinese Economic Policy Uncertainty (EPU) Index. On this basis, based on the relevant data of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2008 to 2020, this paper empirically analyzes the impact of EPU on peer effects of firms R&D investment, and finds that EPU will aggravate the peer effects of firms R&D investment. International students' mental health has become an increasing concern in recent years, as more students leave their country for better education. They experience a wide range of challenges while studying abroad that have an impact on their psychological well-being. These challenges can include language obstacles, cultural differences, homesickness, financial issues and other elements that could severely impact the mental health of international students. Given the limited research on the demographic, cultural, and psychosocial variables that influence international students' mental health, and the scarcity of studies on the use of machine learning algorithms in this area, this study aimed to analyse data to understand the demographic, cultural factors, and psychosocial factors that impact mental health of international students. Additionally, this paper aimed to build a machine learning-based model for predicting depression among international students in the United Kingdom. This study utilized both primary data gathered through an online survey questionnaire targeted at international students and secondary data was sourced from the 'A Dataset of Students' Mental Health and Help-Seeking Behaviors in a Multicultural Environment,' focusing exclusively on international student data within this dataset. We conducted data analysis on the primary data and constructed models using the secondary data for predicting depression among international students. The secondary dataset is divided into training (70%) and testing (30%) sets for analysis, employing four machine learning models: Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, and K Nearest Neighbor. To assess each algorithm's performance, we considered metrics such as Accuracy, Sensitivity, Specificity, Precision and AU-ROC curve. This study identifies significant demographic variables (e.g., loan status, gender, age, marital status) and psychosocial factors (financial difficulties, academic stress, homesickness, loneliness) contributing to international students' mental health. The COVID-19 pandemic prompted governments worldwide to implement a range of containment measures, including mass gathering restrictions, social distancing, and school closures. Despite these efforts, vaccines continue to be the safest and most effective means of combating such viruses. Yet, vaccine hesitancy persists, posing a significant public health concern, particularly with the emergence of new COVID-19 variants. To effectively address this issue, timely data is crucial for understanding the various factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy. While previous research has largely relied on traditional surveys for this information, recent sources of data, such as social media, have gained attention. However, the potential of social media data as a reliable proxy for information on population hesitancy, especially when compared with survey data, remains underexplored. This paper aims to bridge this gap. Our approach uses social, demographic, and economic data to predict vaccine hesitancy levels in the ten most populous US metropolitan areas. We employ machine learning algorithms to compare a set of baseline models that contain only these variables with models that incorporate survey data and social media data separately. Our results show that XGBoost algorithm consistently outperforms Random Forest and Linear Regression, with marginal differences between Random Forest and XGBoost. This was especially the case with models that incorporate survey or social media data, thus highlighting the promise of the latter data as a complementary information source. Results also reveal variations in influential variables across the five hesitancy classes, such as age, ethnicity, occupation, and political inclination. Further, the application of models to different MSAs yields mixed results, emphasizing the uniqueness of communities and the need for complementary data approaches. The ever-increasing demand for electricity has presented a grave threat to traditional energy sources, which are finite, rapidly depleting, and have a detrimental environmental impact. These shortcomings of conventional energy resources have caused the globe to switch from traditional to renewable energy sources. Wind power significantly contributes to carbon-free energy because it is widely accessible, inexpensive, and produces no harmful emissions. Better and more efficient renewable wind power production relies on accurate wind speed predictions. Accurate short-term wind speed forecasting is essential for effectively handling unsteady wind power generation and ensuring that wind turbines operate safely. The significant stochastic nature of the wind speed and its dynamic unpredictability makes it difficult to forecast. This paper develops a hybrid model, L-LG-S, for precise short-term wind speed forecasting to address problems in wind speed forecasting. In this research, state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning algorithms employed in wind speed forecasting are compared with the proposed approach. The effectiveness of the proposed hybrid model is tested using real-world wind speed data from a wind turbine located in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. Moreover, the mean square error (MSE), root mean square error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE) are used as accuracy evaluation indices. Experimental results show that the proposed model outperforms the state-of-the-art legacy models in terms of accuracy for short-term wind speed in training, validation and test predictions by 98% respectively. Thyroid disease classification plays a crucial role in early diagnosis and effective treatment of thyroid disorders. Machine learning (ML) techniques have demonstrated remarkable potential in this domain, offering accurate and efficient diagnostic tools. Most of the real-life datasets have imbalanced characteristics that hamper the overall performance of the classifiers. Existing data balancing techniques process the whole dataset at a time that sometimes causes overfitting and underfitting. However, the complexity of some ML models, often referred to as "black boxes," raises concerns about their interpretability and clinical applicability. This paper presents a comprehensive study focused on the analysis and interpretability of various ML models for classifying thyroid diseases. In our work, we first applied a new data-balancing mechanism using a clustering technique and then analyzed the performance of different ML algorithms. To address the interpretability challenge, we explored techniques for model explanation and feature importance analysis using eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) tools globally as well as locally. Finally, the XAI results are validated with the domain experts. Experimental results have shown that our proposed mechanism is efficient in diagnosing thyroid disease and can explain the models effectively. Diabetes is a persistent metabolic disorder linked to elevated levels of blood glucose, commonly referred to as blood sugar. This condition can have detrimental effects on the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves as time passes. It is a chronic ailment that arises when the body fails to produce enough insulin or is unable to effectively use the insulin it produces. When diabetes is not properly managed, it often leads to hyperglycemia, a condition characterized by elevated blood sugar levels or impaired glucose tolerance. In this paper, we propose a multiclass diabetes mellitus detection and classification approach using an extremely imbalanced Laboratory of Medical City Hospital data dynamics. We also formulate a new dataset that is moderately imbalanced based on the Laboratory of Medical City Hospital data dynamics. To correctly identify the multiclass diabetes mellitus, we employ three machine learning classifiers namely support vector machine, logistic regression, and k-nearest neighbor. We also focus on dimensionality reduction (feature selection—filter, wrapper, and embedded method) to prune the unnecessary features and to scale up the classification performance. To optimize the classification performance of classifiers, we tune the model by hyperparameter optimization with 10-fold grid search cross-validation. In the case of the original extremely imbalanced dataset with 70:30 partition and support vector machine classifier, we achieved maximum accuracy of 0.964, precision of 0.968, recall of 0.964, F1-score of 0.962, Cohen kappa of 0.835, and AUC of 0.99 by using top 4 feature according to filter method. By using the top 9 features according to wrapper-based sequential feature selection, the k-nearest neighbor provides an accuracy of 0.935 and 1.0 for the other performance metrics. For our created moderately imbalanced dataset with an 80:20 partition, the SVM classifier achieves a maximum accuracy of 0.938, and 1.0 for other performance metrics. For the multiclass diabetes mellitus detection and classification, our experiments outperformed conducted research based on the Laboratory of Medical City Hospital data dynamics. Southern leaf blight (SLB) is a foliar disease caused by the fungus Cochliobolus heterostrophus infecting maize plants in humid, warm weather conditions. SLB causes production losses to corn producers in different regions of the world such as Latin America, Europe, India, and Africa. In this paper, we demonstrate a non-destructive method to quantify the signs of fungal infection in SLB-infected corn plants using a deep UV (DUV) fluorescence spectrometer, with a 248.6 nm excitation wavelength, to acquire the emission spectra of healthy and SLB-infected corn leaves. Fluorescence emission spectra of healthy and diseased leaves were used to train an Autoencoder (AE) anomaly detection algorithm—an unsupervised machine learning model—to quantify the phenotype associated with SLB-infected leaves. For all samples, the signature of corn leaves consisted of two prominent peaks around 450 nm and 325 nm. However, SLB-infected leaves showed a higher response at 325 nm compared to healthy leaves, which was correlated to the presence of C. heterostrophus based on disease severity ratings from Visual Scores (VS). Specifically, we observed a linear inverse relationship between the AE error and the VS (R2 = 0.94 and RMSE = 0.935). With improved hardware, this method may enable improved quantification of SLB infection versus visual scoring based on e.g., fungal spore concentration per unit area and spatial localization. Many lumbar spine diseases are caused by defects or degeneration of lumbar intervertebral discs (IVD) and are usually diagnosed through inspection of the patient's lumbar spine MRI. Efficient and accurate assessments of the lumbar spine are essential but a challenge due to the size of the clinical radiologist workforce not keeping pace with the demand for radiology services. In this paper, we present a methodology to automatically annotate lumbar spine IVDs with their height and degenerative state which is quantified using the Pfirrmann grading system. The method starts with semantic segmentation of a mid-sagittal MRI image into six distinct non-overlapping regions, including the IVD and vertebrae regions. Each IVD region is then located and assigned with its label. Using geometry, a line segment bisecting the IVD is determined and its Euclidean distance is used as the IVD height. We then extract an image feature, called self-similar color correlogram, from the nucleus of the IVD region as a representation of the region's spatial pixel intensity distribution. We then use the IVD height data and machine learning classification process to predict the Pfirrmann grade of the IVD. We considered five different deep learning networks and six different machine learning algorithms in our experiment and found the ResNet-50 model and Ensemble of Decision Trees classifier to be the combination that gives the best results. This paper presents an optimized preparation process for external ointment using the Definitive Screening Design (DSD) method. The ointment is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Professor WYH, a renowned TCM practitioner in Jiangsu Province, China, known for its proven clinical efficacy. In this study, a stepwise regression model was employed to analyze the relationship between key process factors (such as mixing speed and time) and rheological parameters. Machine learning techniques, including Monte Carlo simulation, decision tree analysis, and Gaussian process, were used for parameter optimization. Through rigorous experimentation and verification, we have successfully identified the optimal preparation process for WYH ointment. The optimized parameters included drug ratio of 24.5%, mixing time of 8 min, mixing speed of 1175 rpm, petroleum dosage of 79 g, liquid paraffin dosage of 6.7 g. The final ointment formulation was prepared using method B. This research not only contributes to the optimization of the WYH ointment preparation process but also provides valuable insights and practical guidance for designing the preparation processes of other TCM ointments. This advanced DSD method enhances the screening approach for identifying the best preparation process, thereby improving the scientific rigor and quality of TCM ointment preparation processes. Recent advances in the field of machine learning have yielded novel research perspectives in behavioural economics and financial markets microstructure studies. In this paper we study the impact of individual trader leaning characteristics on markets using a stock market simulator designed with a multi-agent architecture. Each agent, representing an autonomous investor, trades stocks through reinforcement learning, using a centralized double-auction limit order book. This approach allows us to study the impact of individual trader traits on the whole stock market at the mesoscale in a bottom-up approach. We chose to test three trader trait aspects: agent learning rate increases, herding behaviour and random trading. As hypothesized, we find that larger learning rates significantly increase the number of crashes. Major depressive disorder (MDD), a prevalent mental health issue, affects more than 8% of the US population, and almost 17% in the young group of 18–25 years old. Since Covid-19, its prevalence has become even more significant. However, the remission (being free of depression) rates of first-line antidepressant treatments on MDD are only about 30%. To improve treatment outcomes, researchers have built various predictive models for treatment responses and yet none of them have been adopted in clinical use. One reason is that most predictive models are based on data from subjective questionnaires, which are less reliable. Neuroimaging data are promising objective prognostic factors, but they are expensive to obtain and hence predictive models using neuroimaging data are limited and such studies were usually in small scale (N<100). In this paper, we proposed an advanced machine learning (ML) pipeline for small training dataset with large number of features. We implemented multiple imputation for missing data and repeated K-fold cross validation (CV) to robustly estimate predictive performances. Different feature selection methods and stacking methods using 6 general ML models including random forest, gradient boosting decision tree, XGBoost, penalized logistic regression, support vector machine (SVM), and neural network were examined to evaluate the model performances. All predictive models were compared using model performance metrics such as accuracy, balanced accuracy, area under ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity and specificity. Our proposed ML pipeline was applied to a training dataset and obtained an accuracy and AUC above 0.80. But such high performance failed while applying our ML pipeline using an external validation dataset from the EMBARC study which is a multi-center study. Mechanical ventilation techniques are vital for preserving individuals with a serious condition lives in the prolonged hospitalization unit. Nevertheless, an imbalance amid the hospitalized people demands and the respiratory structure could cause to inconsistencies in the patient's inhalation. To tackle this problem, this study presents an Iterative Learning PID Controller (ILC-PID), a unique current cycle feedback type controller that helps in gaining the correct pressure and volume. The paper also offers a clear and complete examination of the primarily efficient neural approach for generating optimal inhalation strategies. Moreover, machine learning-based classifiers are used to evaluate the precision and performance of the ILC-PID controller. These classifiers able to forecast and choose the perfect type for various inhalation modes, eliminating the likelihood that patients will require mechanical ventilation. In pressure control, the suggested accurate neural categorization exhibited an average accuracy rate of 88.2% in continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) mode and 91.7% in proportional assist ventilation (PAV) mode while comparing with the other classifiers like ensemble classifier has reduced accuracy rate of 69.5% in CPAP mode and also 71.7% in PAV mode. An average accuracy of 78.9% rate in other classifiers compared to neutral network in CPAP. The neural model had an typical range of 81.6% in CPAP mode and 84.59% in PAV mode for 20 cm H2O of volume created by the neural network classifier in the volume investigation. Compared to the other classifiers, an average of 72.17% was in CPAP mode, and 77.83% was in PAV mode in volume control. Different approaches, such as decision trees, optimizable Bayes trees, naive Bayes trees, nearest neighbour trees, and an ensemble of trees, were also evaluated regarding the accuracy by confusion matrix concept, training duration, specificity, sensitivity, and F1 score. Slow patient enrollment or failing to enroll the required number of patients is a disruptor of clinical trial timelines. To meet the planned trial recruitment, site selection strategies are used during clinical trial planning to identify research sites that are most likely to recruit a sufficiently high number of subjects within trial timelines. We developed a machine learning approach that outperforms baseline methods to rank research sites based on their expected recruitment in future studies. Indication level historical recruitment and real-world data are used in the machine learning approach to predict patient enrollment at site level. We define covariates based on published recruitment hypotheses and examine the effect of these covariates in predicting patient enrollment. We compare model performance of a linear and a non-linear machine learning model with common industry baselines that are constructed from historical recruitment data. Performance of the methodology is evaluated and reported for two disease indications, inflammatory bowel disease and multiple myeloma, both of which are actively being pursued in clinical development. We validate recruitment hypotheses by reviewing the covariates relationship with patient recruitment. For both indications, the non-linear model significantly outperforms the baselines and the linear model on the test set. In this paper, we present a machine learning approach to site selection that incorporates site-level recruitment and real-world patient data. The model ranks research sites by predicting the number of recruited patients and our results suggest that the model can improve site ranking compared to common industry baselines. Background: Cancer diagnosis based on machine learning has become a popular application direction. Support vector machine (SVM), as a classical machine learning algorithm, has been widely used in cancer diagnosis because of its advantages in high-dimensional and small sample data. However, due to the high-dimensional feature space and high feature redundancy of gene expression data, SVM faces the problem of poor classification effect when dealing with such data. Methods: Based on this, this paper proposes a hybrid feature selection algorithm combining information gain and grouping particle swarm optimization (IG-GPSO). The algorithm firstly calculates the information gain values of the features and ranks them in descending order according to the value. Then, ranked features are grouped according to the information index, so that the features in the group are close, and the features outside the group are sparse. Finally, grouped features are searched using grouping PSO and evaluated according to in-group and out-group. Results: Experimental results show that the average accuracy (ACC) of the SVM on the feature subset selected by the IG-GPSO is 98.50%, which is significantly better than the traditional feature selection algorithm. Compared with KNN, the classification effect of the feature subset selected by the IG-GPSO is still optimal. In addition, the results of multiple comparison tests show that the feature selection effect of the IG-GPSO is significantly better than that of traditional feature selection algorithms. Conclusion: The feature subset selected by IG-GPSO not only has the best classification effect, but also has the least feature scale (FS). Credit card fraud is a significant problem that costs billions of dollars annually. Detecting fraudulent transactions is challenging due to the imbalance in class distribution, where the majority of transactions are legitimate. While pre-processing techniques such as oversampling of minority classes are commonly used to address this issue, they often generate unrealistic or overgeneralized samples. This paper proposes a method called autoencoder with probabilistic xgboost based on SMOTE and CGAN(AE-XGB-SMOTE-CGAN) for detecting credit card frauds.AE-XGB-SMOTE-CGAN is a novel method proposed for credit card fraud detection problems. The credit card fraud dataset comes from a real dataset anonymized by a bank and is highly imbalanced, with normal data far greater than fraud data. Autoencoder (AE) is used to extract relevant features from the dataset, enhancing the ability of feature representation learning, and are then fed into xgboost for classification according to the threshold. Additionally, in this study, we propose a novel approach that hybridizes Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) and Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Technique (SMOTE) to tackle class imbalance problems. Our two-phase oversampling approach involves knowledge transfer and leverages the synergies of SMOTE and GAN. Specifically, GAN transforms the unrealistic or overgeneralized samples generated by SMOTE into realistic data distributions where there is not enough minority class data available for GAN to process effectively on its own. SMOTE is used to address class imbalance issues and CGAN is used to generate new, realistic data to supplement the original dataset. The AE-XGB-SMOTE-CGAN algorithm is also compared to other commonly used machine learning algorithms, such as KNN and Light GBM, and shows an overall improvement of 2% in terms of the ACC index compared to these algorithms. The AE-XGB-SMOTE-CGAN algorithm also outperforms KNN in terms of the MCC index by 30% when the threshold is set to 0.35. This indicates that the AE-XGB-SMOTE-CGAN algorithm has higher accuracy, true positive rate, true negative rate, and Matthew's correlation coefficient, making it a promising method for detecting credit card fraud.
