This paper presents a detailed review of the existing literature on peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading considering market architectures, trading strategies, and enabling technologies. P2P energy trading enables individual users in the electricity network to act as sellers or buyers and trade energy among each other. To facilitate the discussion on different aspects of P2P energy trading, this paper focuses on P2P market mechanisms, relevant bidding strategies, and auction models. In addition, to solve the energy management problems associated with P2P energy trading, this paper investigates widely used solution methods such as game-theoretic models, mathematical optimisation, as well as more recent machine learning techniques and evaluates them in a critical manner. The outcomes of this investigation along with the identification of the challenges and limitations will allow researchers to find suitable P2P energy trading mechanisms based on different market contexts. This paper introduces a straightforward control strategy aimed at the reduction of current fluctuations within the low-frequency domain of open-loop V/f control in induction motor drives. Traditional control techniques necessitate the addition of a current compensator based on motor parameters and the use of digital filters such as band-pass or high-pass filters. These methods, however, rely on precise motor parameters and involve complex filter design and implementation. The proposed control is capable of suppressing current fluctuations without controlling the slip of the induction motor. The proposed control strategy generates the forced rotation angle and command input voltage using the V/f block and outputs the d-axis voltage using a proportional integral controller to keep the d-axis current constant at zero. The difference between the command input voltage and the d-axis voltage is applied as the q-axis voltage and then applied through SVPWM. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control, the proposed control is implemented and analyzed using power simulation based on the results of the analysis of the causes of current fluctuations in the induction motor. Finally, the effect of suppressing current fluctuations of the induction motor is verified through experimental results. In the 10~19 Hz range, where the conventional V/f control method resulted in current fluctuation rates exceeding 10% and peaking at 113.3% at 13 Hz, the proposed method suppressed the fluctuation rate to below 8.6% across all frequencies. At present, most studies use the direct method to analyze the oscillation problem of modern power systems. However, these studies often only simplify the external characteristics of the wind turbine and lack an in-depth understanding of its internal refined energy structure. In this paper, based on the direct-drive permanent magnetic synchronous generator's detailed model (D-PMSG), combined with the dynamic energy of its port, layers of analysis are performed on the wind turbine's internal connections, and a detailed model of the energy structure is created. Then, the interaction mechanism of each control link in the wind turbine is analyzed by combining the energy function of the wind turbine with the improved perturbation method. Finally, this paper constructs a sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) scenario of weak damping and a forcing type and proves the accuracy and effectiveness of the traceability method based on the refined energy of D-PMSG. Recently, there has been a significant increase in the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) such as small-scale photovoltaic systems and wind turbines in power distribution systems. When the aggregated outputs of DERs are combined, excessive reverse current may occur in distribution lines, leading to overvoltage issues and exceeding thermal limits of the distribution lines. To address these issues, it is necessary to limit the output of DERs to a certain level, which results in constraining the hosting capacity of DERs in the distribution system. In this paper, coordination control methodologies of DERs are developed and executed to mitigate the overvoltage and overcurrent induced by DERs, thereby increasing the hosting capacity for DERs of the distribution system. This paper proposes three coordinated approaches of active and reactive power control of DERs, namely Var Precedence, Watt Precedence, and Integrated Watt and Var Control. The Var and Watt Precedence prioritizes reactive power for voltage (Q–V) and active power for current (P–I) to address network congestion, thereby enhancing hosting capacity. Conversely, the Integrated Var and Watt Precedence propose a novel algorithm that combines four control indices (Q–V, P–V, Q–I, and P–I) to solve network problems while maximizing hosting capacity. The three proposed methods are based on the sensitivity analysis of voltage and current to the active and reactive power outputs at the DER installation locations on the distribution lines, aiming to minimize DER active power curtailment. Each sensitivity is derived from linearized power equations at the operating points of the distribution system. To minimize the computation burden of iterative computation, each proposed method decouples active and reactive power and proceeds with sequential control in its own unique way, iteratively determining the precise output control of distributed power sources to reduce linearization errors. The three proposed algorithms are verified via case studies, evaluating their performance compared to conventional approaches. The case studies exhibit superior control effectiveness of the proposed DER power control methods compared to conventional methods when issues such as overvoltage and overcurrent occur simultaneously in the distribution line so that the DER hosting capacity of the system can be improved. Aiming at the demand for subjective evaluation of driveability for fuel cell vehicles, the modeling and evaluation method of driveability for fuel cell vehicles were studied in this paper. Firstly, a real-time model of the fuel cell vehicle powertrain system was established, which included the fuel cell model, power battery model, DC/DC converter model and drive motor model. Secondly, it was integrated with the vehicle dynamics model to form a virtual prototype of a fuel cell vehicle. And a virtual subjective evaluation platform for fuel cell vehicles was built by combining the virtual prototype and high-fidelity driving simulator. Thirdly, a subjective evaluation method of driveability for fuel cell vehicles was proposed, which included the starting performance, acceleration performance, uniform speed performance and tip-in/tip-out performance. This paper concerns the utilisation of a gas bladder hydraulic suppressor to mitigate oscillations in the delivery flow rate of positive displacement machines. The research focuses on two primary objectives: first, the experimental validation of the potential of this solution and second, the formulation of a one-dimensional fluid dynamic model for the suppressor. The foundational framework of the fluid dynamic model is based on the equations governing fluid motion with a one-dimensional approach. To accurately depict the fluid dynamics within the suppressor, a unique approach for determining the speed of sound was incorporated, and it implemented the instantaneous cross-sectional area and the inertial effect of the bladder. This paper is a development of a previous work to also investigate the positioning along the delivery pipe of the suppressor with respect to the pump. The study presents the performance of the suppressor and points out the effects of its relative position with respect to the pump that becomes particularly relevant at high speeds. This paper delves into the critical role of tax credits, specifically Sections 45Q and 45V, in the financing and economic feasibility of low-carbon-intensity hydrogen projects, with a focus on natural-gas-based hydrogen production plants integrated with carbon capture and storage (CCS). This study covers the current clean energy landscape, underscoring the importance of low-carbon hydrogen as a key component in the transition to a sustainable energy future, and then explicates the mechanics of the 45Q and 45V tax credits, illustrating their direct impact on enhancing the economic attractiveness of such projects through a detailed net present value (NPV) model analysis. Our analysis reveals that the application of 45Q and 45V tax credits significantly reduces the levelized cost of hydrogen production, with scenarios indicating a reduction in cost ranging from USD 0.41/kg to USD 0.81/kg of hydrogen. Specifically, the 45Q tax credit demonstrates a slightly more advantageous impact on reducing costs compared to the 45V tax credit, underpinning the critical role of these fiscal measures in enhancing project returns and feasibility. Furthermore, this paper addresses the inherent limitations of utilizing tax credits, primarily the challenge posed by the mismatch between the scale of tax credits and the tax liability of the project developers. The concept and role of tax equity investments are discussed in response to this challenge. Hydrogen-powered mobility is believed to be crucial in the future, as hydrogen constitutes a promising solution to make up for the non-programmable character of the renewable energy sources. In this context, the hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine represents one of the suitable technical solutions for the future of sustainable mobility. As a matter of fact, hydrogen engines suffer from limitations in volumetric efficiency due to the very low density of the fuel. Consequently, hydrogen-fueled ICEs can reach sufficient torque and power density only if suitable supercharging solutions are developed. Moreover, gaseous-engine performance can be improved to a great extent if direct injection is applied. In this perspective, a remarkable know-how has been developed in the last two decades on NG engines, which can be successfully exploited in this context. The objective of this paper is twofold. In the first part, a feasibility study has been carried out with reference to a typical 2000cc SI engine by means of 1D simulations. This study was aimed at characterizing the performance on the full load curve with respect to a baseline PFI engine fueled by NG. In this phase, the turbocharging/supercharging device has not been included in the model in order to quantify the attainable benefits in the absence of any limitation coming from the turbocharger. In the second part of this paper, the conversion of a prototype 1400cc direct injection NG engine, running with stoichiometric mixture, to run on a lean hydrogen combustion mode has been investigated via 1D simulations. Hydro-pneumatic energy storage is a form of compressed-air energy storage that can provide the long-duration storage required for integrating intermittent renewable energies into electrical power grids. This paper presents results based on numerical modelling and laboratory tests for a kilowatt-scale HPES system tested at the University of Malta. This paper presents measurements of the discharge cycle, in which energy stored in compressed air within a pressure vessel is hydro-pneumatically converted back into electricity via a Pelton turbine and fed into the national electricity grid. The tests were conducted using a hydraulic turbine operated under different fixed-turbine rotational speed settings, with the pressure being allowed to decrease gradually during the HPES system's discharge cycle. The system's overall efficiency accounted for flow losses, turbine inefficiencies, and electrical losses. The tests showed that this efficiency was practically independent of the compressed-air pressure of specific water turbine runner speeds, despite the water turbine operating at fixed speeds. A numerical model developed in MATLAB Simulink (R2022a) was also presented for use simulating the hydraulic performance of the system during the discharge cycle. The model used secondary loss coefficients for the hydraulic circuit and derived velocity coefficients from computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the Pelton turbine nozzle. This paper is a summary of the last ten years of work on the study of parabolic trough collectors (PTCs) and compound parabolic collectors (CPCs) coupled to photovoltaic and thermal solar receiver collectors (SCR-PVTs). While reviewing the state of the art, numerous review papers were found that focused on conventional solar receiver collector (SRC) technology for solar thermal generation. However, there is a lack of review papers summarizing SRC-PVT hybrid technology for solar electric/thermal generation, which would be beneficial for researchers interested in this area of research. This paper provides a review of SRC-PVT hybrid technologies. The theoretical foundations for analyzing and modeling PTC and CPC concentrators coupled to SRC-PVT are described, with an emphasis on modeling through thermal resistances and energy balances. Additionally, this section provides a concise overview of previous studies that have addressed the modeling of PTC and CPC collectors coupled to SCR-PVT, as well as experimental information useful for the validation of new mathematical models of SRC-PVT. The digitization of distribution power systems has revolutionized the way data are collected and analyzed. In this paper, the critical task of harnessing this information to identify irregularities and anomalies in electricity consumption is tackled. The focus is on detecting non-technical losses (NTLs) and energy theft within distribution networks. A comprehensive overview of the methodologies employed to uncover NTLs and energy theft is presented, leveraging measurements of electricity consumption. The most common scenarios and prevalent cases of anomalies and theft among consumers are identified. Additionally, statistical indicators tailored to specific anomalies are proposed. In this research paper, the practical implementation of numerous artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, including the artificial neural network (ANN), ANFIS, autoencoder neural network, and K-mean clustering, is highlighted. These algorithms play a central role in our research, and our primary objective is to showcase their effectiveness in identifying NTLs. Real-world data sourced directly from distribution networks are utilized. Additionally, we carefully assess how well statistical methods work and compare them to AI techniques by testing them with real data. The artificial neural network (ANN) accurately identifies various consumer types, exhibiting a frequency error of 7.62%. In contrast, the K-means algorithm shows a slightly higher frequency error of 9.26%, while the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) fails to detect the initial anomaly type, resulting in a frequency error of 11.11%. Our research suggests that AI can make finding irregularities in electricity consumption even more effective. Additionally, it delves into the advancements in MPC topologies, focusing on efficiency, reliability, and modularity improvements. These advancements are crucial for harnessing cost reduction, simplicity, and compactness. Furthermore, this paper introduces an innovative multiport DC-DC converter tailored for integrating and managing renewable sources. This new converter design enhances PV system and battery storage performance by reducing power conversion steps, using fewer components, and improving voltage-boosting capabilities. Its unique bidirectional buck-boost structure allows for versatile connections between sources and loads with varying voltage and power requirements. The performance of this novel converter is evaluated through MATLAB/Simulink simulations under different scenarios. In order to fully utilize the control degrees of freedom of a multi-three-phase-star smooth-pole permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), this paper first develops a modeling approach using a new matrix transformation method. The proposed transformation produces decoupled and independent star windings, removing the inductive couplings and preserving the model and torque control's consistency as the number of phases increases. The model, together with a new vector control scheme, is superior for studying the effect of the winding phase angle shift on motor performance. Based on a numerical simulation, this paper focuses on the quality analysis of phase currents, non-sequential currents, and torque ripple with different phase angles for double- and triple-star PMSM drives. Global warming, pollution, and increasing energy demand have compelled electrification of the transport sector. Electric vehicles are not only an attractive and cleaner mode of transport, but they also possess the capacity to offer flexible storage alternative based on bidirectional vehicle-to-grid schemes. Vehicle-to-grid or V2G technology permits electric vehicles' batteries to store energy and discharge it back to the power grid during peak-load periods. However, the feasibility and economic viability of V2G is still a matter of concern and needs investigation. In this paper, the authors delved into the feasibility of V2G technology by analysing the real time-charging data of a V2G demonstration project named EV-elocity, located at the University of Nottingham campus in the UK. The authors analysed the charging data and trip-status data of two charging sites and put forward some insights regarding the feasibility of V2G and the behavioural traits of the vehicles. This paper will enlighten the research community regarding the feasibility and benefits of V2G in a real-world environment by analysing the charging/discharging and vehicle behaviour and reporting the opportunities and benefits of vehicle-to-grid technology. Due to the serious problems with energy efficiency, carbon emissions, and thermal comfort of rural residences in northern China, an optimization of active and passive heating technologies for rural residences is necessary. In this paper, an optimization for rural residences in northern China is conducted with four objectives: the whole life cycle carbon emission; the annual energy consumption through heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems; the annual cost; and thermal comfort. In addition, the optimization model with active–passive heating technology synergy is resolved by NSGA-II genetic algorithm. The active and passive design variables, including the type of air source heat pump, orientation, the type and thickness of envelope insulation, the layer of window glass, the window-to-wall area ratio, as well as sunspace parameters are preferred to obtain the optimal solution. The results indicate that the optimal solution obtained by the ideal point method gives the most outstanding performance. Compared with the prototype, the optimized carbon emissions in severe cold and cold regions decreased by 56.1% and 54.6%, respectively. The annual energy consumption decreased by 59.7% and 62.2%. Finally, the roof insulation thickness is the most sensitive design variable in Pareto-optimal solution sets. The paper presents some case spectral analysis of zero-sequence voltages and currents in an example industrial power distribution network. The network layout is based on typical power delivery networks in underground coal mines. Ground fault simulations have been made using an ATP/EMTP program. Due to the high environmental risks, the reliability of the protection relay operation related to their selectivity plays an important role. This paper tries to find the reasons for nonselective operation and unnecessary tripping in extensive mine cable networks, particularly with large power sources of higher-order harmonics. It was found that in transient states—due to the decaying oscillations occurring in complex RLC circuits—the results of short time measurements of the criterion values for ground fault protective relays can be overestimated (particularly for small values of ground resistance) and lead to nonselective tripping of a healthy cable line. Therefore, it might be advisable to increase the integration time used for measuring rms values. Also, if there is a significant level of higher harmonics in the industrial network generated by high-power converters, it should be noted that the higher harmonics of the ground fault current and currents measured by ground fault protection relays assume much higher values, which may also cause nonselective tripping. In this case, it may be advisable to use higher harmonic filters in the measuring circuits and to select a sufficiently high sampling frequency in the digital protective relays. A new passivity-based voltage tracker for islanded Direct Current (DC) microgrids is presented in this paper. The proposed design develops a new sufficient condition for passivity-based state feedback with proportional and integral control using the attracting ellipsoid method. In this paper, we consider the time behavior of the extended vector, which completely describes the principle properties of the closed-loop system such as the boundedness of the trajectories within some ellipsoid and the dependence of its "size" on the feedback gains. The next step, which we are realizing in this paper, is the minimization of the attractive ellipsoid by selecting the "best" admissible feedback parameters. Here, it is important to note that the applied feedback is of PD-type (proportional differential) on the system state and I-type (integral) on the output. This is a new construction of the suggested feedback which gives several advantages for a designer. The suggested control is decentralized and uses only the local states; it is cost-effective and avoids the time delays in the communication networks which are needed if centralized control is used. The suggested control is carried out in the bilinear matrix inequality (BMI) framework. Extensive simulation is performed on a test system composed of renewable energy sources, under plug and play (PnP) operations, and uncertainties in distribution lines and loads. The performance of the proposed decentralized voltage controller is compared with that of a voltage tracker present in the literature. The comparison shows the improvements introduced by the proposed control ensure the stability of the dc bus voltage and a quick response under different scenarios of operating conditions. Low or even zero carbon dioxide emissions will be an essential requirement for energy supplies in the near future. Besides transport and electricity generation, industry is another large carbon emitter. Hydrogen produced by renewable energy provides a flexible way of utilizing that energy. Hydrogen, as an energy carrier, could be stored in a large capacity compared to electricity. In Sweden, hydrogen will be used to replace coal for steel production. This paper discusses how the need for electricity to produce hydrogen will affect the electricity supply and power flow in the Swedish power grid, and whether it will result in increased emissions in other regions. Data of the Swedish system will be used to study the feasibility of implementing the hydrogen system from the power system viewpoint, and discuss the electricity price and emission issues caused by the hydrogen production in different scenarios. This paper concludes that the Swedish power grid is feasible for accommodating the additional electricity capacity requirement of producing green hydrogen for the steel industry. Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) has been widely applied to diagnose internal faults in transformer insulation systems. However, the accuracy of DGA technique is limited because of the lack of positive correlation of the fault-identifying gases with faults found in power transformers. This paper presents a laboratory study on the correlation between oil dissolved gas formation and partial discharge (PD) statistical parameters. Canonical correlation analysis (CCA) is employed to explore the underlying correlation and to extract principal feature parameters and gases in the development of different PD defects. This study is aimed to provide more information in assisting the separation, classification and identification of PD defects, which might improve the existing transformer dissolved gas analysis (DGA) schemes. An application of a novel ratio method for discharge diagnosis is proposed. The article presents issues related to the aging behavior of oil-paper insulations in transformers using different oil- and ester-based insulating fluids. Despite numerous conducted studies on the subject of oil-paper aging, the use of new insulating fluids is creating open questions. In addition, new liquids such as synthetic and natural esters, as well as oil of the newest generation, are being used. Furthermore, there is still little research on the formation of aging markers with this form of the dielectric. For this reason, in this contribution, oil-paper insulations with mineral oil-based insulating fluids, natural and synthetic esters, as well as oil from natural gas, are aged thermally accelerated at 130 °C over a duration of 15 weeks, by considering two cases of free-breathing and hermetically sealed transformers. Therefore, various aging markers are investigated to allow a condition assessment. The results show that differences exist between the fluids and design of the transformer, as in the aging rate of the paper and the formation of aging markers in the insulating liquid such as acids. These findings can be used to improve asset management strategies by a more precise determination of the aging state depending on the transformer type as well as the type of insulating fluid. Energy (including thermal) needs are growing rapidly worldwide thus leading to increased energy production. Considering stricter requirements for the employment of non-renewable energy sources, the use of biofuel in energy facilities appears as one of the best options, having high potential for growth that will increase in the long run both in the Baltic region and the European Union as a whole. This publication investigates the possibilities of using various blends of biofuel containing lignin for heat production and emissions to the air during combustion processes. The paper examines the chemical composition of lignin and bottom ash and explores the impact of a different ratio of lignin in the fuel mixture, the effect of the power of biofuel combustion plants (boilers) and the influence of fuel supply to the combustion chamber on gaseous pollutants (CO, NOx, SO2) and particulate matter emissions. The results of the conducted study demonstrate that, in contrast to pure lignin, the concentrations of alkali metals, boron and, to a lesser extent, nickel and chlorine have increased the most in bottom ash. The use of lignin can effectively reduce the need for conventional biofuel by 30–100% and to increase the temperature of exhaust gases. The lowest emissions have been observed using a mixture of 30% of lignin and biofuel at the lowest range of power (2.5–4 MW). Under the optimal oxygen/temperature mode, carbon monoxide concentrations are approximately 20 mg/Nm3 and those of nitrogen oxides–500 mg/Nm3. The subject matter addressed in the paper concerns digital technology platforms in the context of renewable energy sources. The main goal is to check whether digital technology platforms can be effective factors in implementing innovative business models in the RES sector. The study was based on empirical research using Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) and Computer-Assisted Web Interview (CAWI) methods, as well as on a model of attitudes towards digital technology platforms (DTPs) built using CATREG (categorical regression) analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that digital technology platforms contribute to building innovative business models. The decisive influence on this is a number of benefits for enterprises and consumers (and the related factor is the most important when it comes to attitudes towards DTP), as well as the high interest in digital RES platforms. The widely recognised Energiewende, ("energy transition") in Germany has lost its original momentum. We therefore address the question of how the transition process to a new energy system can be reignited. To do so, we developed the "5Ds approach", which lays the groundwork for a process analysis and the identification of important catalysts and barriers. Focusing on the five major fields required for the energy transition, we analyse the effects of: (1) Decarbonisation: How can efficiency and renewable energies be expanded successfully? (2) Digitalisation: Which digital solutions facilitate this conversion and would be suitable as sustainable business models? (3) Decentralisation: How can potential decentralised energy and efficiency opportunities be developed? (4) Democratisation: How can participation be strengthened in order to foster acceptance (and prevent "yellow vest" protests, etc.)? (5) Diversification of service: Which services can make significant contributions in the context of flexible power generation, demand-side management, storage and grids? Our paper comes to the conclusion that German policy efforts in the "5D" fields have been implemented very differently. Particularly with regard to democratisation, the opportunities for genuine participation among the different social actors must be further strengthened to get the Energiewende back on track. In August 2019, a new bus fleet of 36 electric and 58 hybrid buses were implemented in Trondheim, Norway. This paper examines the carbon footprint of electrified city buses, by addressing the achieved and potential reduction for the new bus fleet. Important aspects such as geographical location of production, charging electricity mix, and impact from production and operation on lifetime emissions, are also examined. A meta-analysis on life cycle assessment studies was undertaken to investigate greenhouse gas emissions and energy demand in different parts of bus production. This is followed by the production of a bus model using the findings and comparing electrified buses with diesel and HVO buses. The models were then used in a case study of the bus fleet in Trondheim, to understand the specific parameters affecting the carbon footprint. The results show that the overall carbon footprint has been considerably reduced (37%) by implementing biofuel and electrified buses, and that a further reduction of 52% can be achieved through full electrification. The operation emissions for the fleet were found to be 49 g CO2-eq/person-km, which is lower than the average city bus and passenger car in Norway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aging of power transformers causes several defects and damages in the insulating system, especially in the insulating paper. The degradation of the insulating paper generates dissolved gases in the insulating oil, which are measured by gas chromatography and used as an indicator of the insulation status. The state of the insulating paper can be identified based on the degree of polymerization (DP) measurement. In some cases, when the measurement of DP is difficult, estimating DP can be accomplished through gathering information about some of the testing parameters, such as the dissolved gases (DGA), breakdown voltage (BDV), oil interfacial tension (IF), oil acidity (ACI), moisture content (MC), oil color (OC), dielectric loss (Tan δ), and furans concentration specifically (2-furfuraldhyde (FA)). The statistical tools (correlation and multiple linear regression), based on 131 transformer samples, can be used to build a relation linking DP and one or more of the previous parameters to identify the insulating paper status and the percentage of remaining life of the transformer. The results indicated that it is difficult to build a mathematical model to relate between the DP and the testing variables, except with FA, where the trend of DP with FA is more obvious than with other variables. The empirical formula to compute DP based on the FA concentration was developed and gave promising results to compute DP and the remaining life of the power transformers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The recognition of the creepage discharge development process of oil–paper insulation under AC–DC combined voltage is the basis for fault monitoring and diagnosis of converter transformers; however, only a few related studies are available. In this study, the AC–DC combined voltage with a ratio of 1:1 was used to develop a recognition method for the creepage discharge development process of an oil–paper insulation under a cylinder–plate electrode structure. First, the pulse current method was used to collect the discharge signals in the creepage discharge development process. Then, 24 characteristic parameters were extracted from four types of creepage discharge characteristic spectra after dimensionality reduction. Finally, based on the online sequential extreme learning machine (OS-ELM) algorithm, these characteristic parameters were used to recognize the development stage of the creepage discharge of the oil–paper insulation. The results showed that when the size of the sample training set used in the OS-ELM algorithm is close to the number of hidden layer neurons, a high recognition accuracy can be obtained, and the type of activation function has little influence on the recognition accuracy. Four stages of the creepage discharge development process were recognized using the OS-ELM algorithm; the trend was the same as that of the characteristic parameters of the entire creepage discharge development process. The recognition accuracy was 91.4%. The algorithm has a high computing speed and high accuracy and can train data in batches. Transformers are generally considered to be the costliest assets in a power network. The lifetime of a transformer is mainly attributable to the condition of its solid insulation, which in turn is measured and described according to the degree of polymerization (DP) of the cellulose. Since the determination of the DP index is complex and time-consuming and requires the transformer to be taken out of service, utilities prefer indirect and non-invasive methods of determining the DP based on the byproduct of cellulose aging. This paper analyzes solid insulation degradation by measuring the furan concentration, recently introduced methanol, and dissolved gases like carbon oxides and hydrogen, in the insulating oil. A group of service-aged distribution transformers were selected for practical investigation based on oil samples and different kinds of tests. Based on the maintenance and planning strategy of the power utility and a weighted combination of measured chemical indicators, a neural network was also developed to categorize the state of the transformer in certain classes. The method proved to be able to improve the diagnostic capability of chemical indicators, thus providing power utilities with more reliable maintenance tools and avoiding catastrophic failure of transformers. The aim of the study was to assess leaching of Cl−, SO42−, and PO43− from ashes formed in household furnaces. The ashes were obtained following the combustion of conventional fuels, namely wood and hard coal, and alternative fuels with various fractions of municipal waste in a household boiler. Aqueous leachates of the ashes were used to determine concentrations of chlorides by titration (Mohr's method) (21.3–3049.6 mg/dm3), sulphates by the gravimetric method (12.2–244.1 mg/dm3), and phosphates by spectrophotometry (0.01–67.2 mg/dm3). It was found that co-combustion of municipal waste with plastic-coated paper cartons, diapers, or a mixed waste fraction leaves the greatest amount of ashes on the furnace grate. The highest amounts of Cl−, SO42−, and PO43− were leached from ashes generated from burning a mix of wood and coals, or wood alone (different species). The addition of municipal waste to the process of burning the conventional and alternative fuels studied did not significantly increase Cl−, SO42−, and PO43− content in aqueous extracts of ashes, the exception being diapers and plywood. In light of the study results, it was concluded that all the ashes could be reused (as an additive to concrete) except for the ash generated from the combustion of a mixed municipal waste fraction and coal (due to the content of Cl−) and diapers (due to the content of PO43−). In times of climate change and dwindling fossil resources, the need for sustainable renewable energy technologies gains importance, increasingly fast. However, the state of the art technologies are energy intensive in their production, like monocrystalline photovoltaic, or even consist of not recyclable composite material, in the case of wind turbine blades. Despite a lack in efficiency and stability, dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC) have a high potential to supplement the state of the art green energy technology in future. With low production costs and no necessity for toxic compounds DSSCs are a potential product, which could circulate in the loops of a circular economy. Therefore, with this paper, we provide the status of research on DSSC recycling and an outlook on how recycling streams could be realized in the future for glass-based DSSCs without toxic components. The overview includes work on using recycled material to build DSSCs and extending the life of a DSSC, e.g., through rehydration. We also illustrate the state of sustainability research for DSSCs using the VOSviewer tool. To date, the term sustainability appears in 35 of 24,441 publications on DSSCs. This paper proposes a smart system for managing the operations of grid-connected charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) that use photovoltaic (PV) sources. This system consists of a mobile application for EV drivers to make charging reservations, an algorithm to optimize the charging schedule, and a remote execution module of charging operations based on the open charge point protocol (OCPP). The optimal charging schedule was obtained by solving a binary integer programming problem. The merits of our solution are illustrated by simulating different charging demand scenarios. This article presents a method for quantification of methanol and ethanol integrated in the same gas-chromatographic run with a quantification of gases dissolved in mineral oil, making it an integrated tool in transformer diagnostics. The results of aging experiments at 120 °C and 60 °C of Kraft paper, copper, barrier, and pressboard immersed in mineral oil, as well as the aging of thermal upgrade paper in mineral and natural ester oil at 140 °C are presented, in order to investigate correlations between different aging markers and to evaluate their partitioning between oil and cellulose at defined conditions. The results of partitioning experiments at 60 °C showed that re-absorption of methanol from oil to the cellulose materials is faster than the re-absorption of furans. This means that methanol is a paper-degradation marker that can be used in diagnostics over shorter equilibrium times and for the detection of developing faults at broader temperature ranges. Furthermore, a statistical overview of methanol concentration from a database and two transformer fault diagnostic cases are presented. Therefore, in addition to an analysis of gases dissolved in oil, the use of methanol and ethanol in transformer fault and failure investigations should be explored and verified through transformer fault investigations and postmortem analyses. Energy, precision, and multi-functionality have become primary considerations in incubators. For example, if a part of an apparatus must be insulated, while other parts do not, then the specific part can be placed in the multi-functional incubator proposed in this paper to avoid wasting energy. The proposed incubator is composed of various parts including a platform, which is provided for debugging parts to meet the working accuracy of parts. The light windows are adjustable in height to accommodate different heights of light. The incubator is black to prevent stray light in optical experiments. This design can not only insulate but also debug optical or non-optical parts according working accuracy of parts. In this paper, an example incubator is used for an optical experiment was given and the incubator was optimized several times. The temperature fluctuations of the box of the third optimized incubator reached 0.045 ∘ C . To reduce the temperature fluctuations, the relationship between the ambient and target temperature as well as the temperature fluctuations of the box were analyzed, and a formula was proposed. A further experiment provided evidence for this relationship. Based on the formula, the SLITA (small optimized incubator placed in large optimized incubator with the same target temperature) method for improving insulation accuracy was further proposed, and an incubator was designed using this method. This paper proposes a digital model predictive controller (DMPC) for a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) DC-DC converter interfaced with renewable energy resources in a hybrid system. Such MIMO systems generally suffer from cross-regulation, which seriously impacts the stability and speed of response of the system. To solve the contemporary issues in a MIMO system, a controller is required to attenuate the cross-regulation. Therefore, this paper proposes a controller, which increases speed of response and maintains stable output by regulating the load voltage independently. The inductor current and the capacitor voltage of the proposed converter are considered as the controlling parameters. With the aid of Forward Euler's procedure, the future values are computed for the instantaneous values of controlling parameters. Cost function defines the control action by the predicted values that describe the system performance and establish optimal condition at which the output of the system is required. This allows proper switching of the system, thereby helping to regulate the output voltages. Thus, for any variation in load, the DMPC ensures steady switching operation and minimization of cross-regulation. To prove the efficacy of proposed DMPC controller, simulations followed by the experimental results are executed on a hybrid system consisting of dual-input dual-output (DIDO) positive Super-Lift Luo converter (PSLLC) interfaced with photovoltaic renewable energy resource. The results thus obtained are compared with the conventional PID (proportional integrative derivative) controller for validation and prove that the DMPC controller is able to control the cross-regulation effectively. The variability in generation introduced in the electrical system by an increasing share of renewable technologies must be addressed by balancing mechanisms, demand response being a prominent one. In parallel, the massive introduction of smart meters allows for the use of high frequency energy use time series data to segment electricity customers according to their demand response potential. This paper proposes a smart meter time series clustering methodology based on a two-stage k-medoids clustering of normalized load-shape time series organized around the day divided into 48 time points. Time complexity is drastically reduced by first applying the k-medoids on each customer separately, and second on the total set of customer representatives. Further time complexity reduction is achieved using time series representation with low computational needs. Customer segmentation is undertaken with only four easy-to-interpret features: average energy use, energy–temperature correlation, entropy of the load-shape representative vector, and distance to wind generation patterns. This last feature is computed using the dynamic time warping distance between load and expected wind generation shape representative medoids. The two-stage clustering proves to be computationally effective, scalable and performant according to both internal validity metrics, based on average silhouette, and external validation, based on the ground truth embedded in customer surveys. This paper presents the effect of the impact of moisture in paper insulation used as insulation of transformer windings on its thermal conductivity. Various types of paper (cellulose and aramid) and impregnated (mineral oil, synthetic ester, and natural ester) were tested. The impact of paper and impregnated types on the changes in thermal conductivity of paper insulation caused by an increase in moisture were analyzed. A linear equation, describing the changes in thermal conductivity due to moisture, for various types of paper and impregnated, was developed. The results of measuring the thermal conductivity of paper insulation depending on the temperature are presented. Frequency domain spectroscopy is considered to be a promising and novel method for the assessment of the insulation condition of power equipment. This work has practical significance as it explains the microscopic mechanism of this method in a wide temperature range and further establishes its quantitative model. To achieve this, in the present paper, we select oil-impregnated paper—one of the most common insulation materials for power equipment with a complex microstructure—as a test sample, deduce a formula based on the relationship between the real and imaginary parts of the complex permittivity to extract the spectra of independent dielectric processes and measure the frequency domain spectra of oil-impregnated paper under different temperatures, as well as its thermally stimulated depolarization current with a series of bias voltages. The analysis results reveal that oil-impregnated paper's frequency domain spectra in a wide temperature range are mainly determined by dielectric processes whose generation mechanisms are low-frequency dispersion, DC conduction, electrode relaxation, interfacial relaxation and dipole relaxation, respectively. Moreover, due to the different thermal properties of charge motions, the macroscopic characteristics and microscopic generation mechanisms of both spectra vary significantly with the sample's temperature. After verifying the generation mechanisms of the spectra in high, middle and low-temperature ranges, function models for those spectra with clear physical meanings are established separately, providing sufficient physical parameters to carry out insulation assessment. The research aims were to construct an air-breathing paper-based microfluidic fuel cell (paper-based μ FC) and to evaluated it with different soft drinks to provide energy for their prospective use in portable devices as an emergency power source. First, in a half-cell configuration, cyclic voltammetry showed that glucose, maltose, and fructose had specific oxidation zones in the presence of platinum-ruthenium on carbon (PtRu/C) when they were individual. Still, when they were mixed, glucose was observed to be oxidized to a greater extent than fructose and maltose. After, when a paper-based μ FC was constructed, PtRu/C and platinum on carbon (Pt/C) were used as anode and cathode, the performance of this μ FC was mostly influenced by the concentration of glucose present in each soft drink, obtaining maximum power densities at room temperature of 0.061, 0.063, 0.060, and 0.073 mW cm − 2 for Coca Cola ® , Pepsi ® , Dr. Pepper ® , and 7up ® , respectively. Interestingly, when the soft drinks were cooled, the performance was increased up to 85%. Furthermore, a four-cell stack μ FC was constructed to demonstrate its usefulness as a possible power supply, obtaining a power density of 0.4 mW cm − 2 , using Coca Cola ® as fuel and air as oxidant. With the gradual increasing of the transmission voltage level, the situation of interference on secondary side equipment in smart substations is becoming more serious. The authors tested the interference waveforms caused by the circuit breaker's operation at the smart substation, which showed the severity of the electromagnetic (EM) environment. This paper takes the electronic current transformer acquisition card as an example. The influence of EM interference sources on the reliability of the acquisition card is analyzed. Then, standardized electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity tests of the international electrotechnical commission (IEC) for different interferences are implemented. Typical output characteristics of acquisition cards for different tests are analyzed. Innovatively, this paper proposes a quantitative evaluation method of output waveform disturbance to evaluate the acquisition card's performance. Cellulosic insulation paper is usually used in oil-immersed transformer insulation systems. In this study, the molecular dynamics method based on reaction force field (ReaxFF) was used to simulate the pyrolysis process of a cellobiose molecular model. Through a series of ReaxFF- Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations, the generation path of ethanol at the atomic level was studied. Because the molecular system has hydrogen bonding, force-bias Monte Carlo (fbMC) is mixed into ReaxFF to reduce the cost of calculation by reducing the sampled data. In order to ensure the reliability of the simulation, a model composed of 20 cellobioses and a model composed of 40 cellobioses were respectively established for repeated simulation in the range of 500–3000 K. The results show that insulating paper produced ethanol at extreme thermal fault, and the intermediate product of vinyl alcohol is the key to the aging process. It is also basically consistent with others' previous experiment results. So it can provide an effective reference for the use of ethanol as an indicator to evaluate the aging condition of transformers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a critical component of a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system, resin impregnated paper (RIP) wall bushing has become a weak point because of its surface charge accumulation. This paper studies a model RIP wall bushing core designed by the equal capacitance method. The stationary resistive field along the gas–solid interface of the RIP wall bushing core is investigated theoretically by a gas model, which considers the non-linearly field-dependent volume conductivity. The results show that the gas conductivity along the core surface tends to be an arched distribution from the high-voltage conductor to the end shielding screen. The surface charge mainly accumulates at the turning point of the radius, which may threaten the core's insulation. Then, the surface charge is obtained through a measurement system, where the experimental results are highly consistent with the simulation results. Considering the time constant of charge dissipation is nearly 15 min, it would be better to measure the surface charge on one axial direction of RIP wall bushing core after each voltage application. This paper presents analysis, diagnosis and disposal with a typical internal breakdown failure of the resin impregnated paper (RIP) valve side bushing in high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter transformer. Based on the analysis of fault current characteristics at the time of the RIP valve side bushing failure, and field test results of insulation parameters, a method of diagnosing typical breakdown failures of valve side bushings is proposed. Through disassembly inspection of the internal overheating and arcing traces on the failure bushing, the root cause of this typical breakdown failure is found, which is upper axial flashover along the RIP condenser/SF6 interface caused by the abnormal contact of two current-carrying conductive tubes. Temperature distribution inside the bushing with an abnormal contact resistance between the copper conductive tube and aluminum conductive tube under different load current is simulated by using the finite element method. An special device is also developed for repairing defective bushing on-site, and 75 bushings with conductive contact defects have been repaired on the premise of not pushing converter transformers away from the valve hall and even without pulling out defective bushings. In order to eliminate the voltage imbalance among battery cells when they are connected in series, the paper proposes a double-layer E-structure (DLE) equalizer based on bidirectional buck–boost converters, which has the advantage of quick equalization speed and can be applied to arbitrary number batteries. Furthermore, a novel two-stage equalization control strategy is proposed for the DLE equalizer to decrease maximum voltage gap between the maximum and minimum voltage cells. The paper analyses the working principle of proposed equalizer in detail and describes the detailed design of the control strategy and implement process. Mining production, being one of the most energy-intensive industries globally, consumes substantial amounts of fossil fuels and contributes to extensive carbon emissions worldwide. The trend toward electrification and advanced developments in battery technology have shifted attention from diesel power to battery alternatives. These alternatives are appealing, as they contribute to decarbonisation efforts when compared to conventional diesel trucks. This paper presents a comprehensive review of recent technological advancements in powertrains for Mining Haulage Truck (MHT). It also compares these configurations based on mining system-level considerations to assess their future potential. The evaluated configurations include Diesel-Electric Truck (DET), Trolley Assist Truck (TAT), Battery-only Truck (BOT), Battery Trolley with Dynamic charging truck (BT-D), and Battery Trolley with Stationary charging truck (BT-S). According to the analysis, the energy demand for on-board diesel or battery power (excluding trolley power) in these alternative options is as follows: DET—681 kWh, BOT—645 kWh, TAT—511 kWh, BT-S—471 kWh, and BT-D—466 kWh. The paper also illustrates the theory of battery size design based on the current battery technology, battery material selection, battery package design, and battery size selection methods. In the case of tailored battery size selection, BOT, BT-D, and BT-S configurations require LiFePO4 (LFP) battery masses of 25 tonnes, 18 tonnes, and 18 tonnes, respectively. Based on a techno-economic assessment of battery MHT alternatives with a future perspective, it has been determined that BT-D requires the lowest amount of on-board battery energy. Access to clean energy remains a major issue in developing countries, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa, despite successive policies and the assistance of international institutions or organizations. The United Nations (UN) launched some of the most ambitious initiatives with the Millennium Development Goals and, more recently, the Sustainable Development Goals and Power Africa, a United States (US) government initiative. Sub-Saharan Africa has an important potential in renewable energy for both biogas and solar photovoltaic energy, but they remain underexploited. This paper presents the challenges of access to clean energy in developing countries and the failure of remedial policies mostly based on public–private partnerships (PPPs) in the context of endemic poverty of rural populations. In addition, the development of modern energy technologies remains very limited. Appropriate reforms should be carried out to change the paradigm and allow universal access to clean energy. This paper also addresses the different structural barriers that hinder access to technology in Sub-Saharan Africa and the consequences of access to clean energy in the context of poverty. The paper presents an adaptation of the microinverter platform from Texas Instruments to incorporate a battery energy storage system (BESS) alongside the development of the BESS system itself. Initially designed for unidirectional power flow between PV panels and an electric grid, the platform required modifications to accommodate bidirectional energy transfer for BESS integration. These modifications encompass software adjustments and hardware enhancements, which are all detailed within the paper. The electrical configuration includes selecting and deploying components such as DCDC power converters, microcontrollers, measured signals, and actuating signals to facilitate battery connection to the platform's DC bus. Furthermore, a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system is devised for supervisory control and monitoring, with its implementation outlined. Control software tailored for the chosen microcontroller of the DCDC converters is described in terms of structure and functionality. A hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) methodology is employed to validate the proposed modifications and microgrid configuration. Due to environmental concerns, natural refrigerants and their use in refrigeration and air conditioning systems are receiving more attention from manufacturers, end users and the scientific community. The study of heat transfer and pressure drop is essential for accurate design and more energy efficient cycles using natural refrigerants. The aim of this work is to provide an overview of the latest outcomes related to heat transfer and pressure drop correlations for ammonia, propane, isobutane and propylene and to investigate the current state of the art in terms of operating conditions. Available data on the existing correlations between heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops for natural refrigerants have been collected through a systematic search. Whenever possible, validity intervals are given for each correlation, and the error is quantified. It is the intention of the authors that this paper be a valuable support for researchers and an aid to design, with particular reference to heat pumps. A procedure based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement was adopted, and the Scopus database was used to query the relevant literature. A total of 135 publications qualified for inclusion in the survey; 34 articles report experimental investigations for unusual geometric conditions. Of the 101 selected papers related to usual geometric conditions, N = 50 deal only with HTC, N = 16 deal only with pressure drop and the remainder (N = 35) analyse both HTC and pressure drop. Among the 85 HTC papers, N = 53 deal with the evaporating condition, N = 30 with condensation and only N = 2 with the heat transfer correlations under both conditions. Due to concerns with air pollution and climate change, governments and transport operators around the world have engaged in transforming their fossil-fueled vehicles into electric vehicles (EVs). It is essential to build a model for the electrifying process to minimize the operation costs. This paper presents a systematic analytical approach for the electrification of a fire ambulance service station. This approach begins with the selection of suitable EVs to replace the current service vehicles. Subsequently, an in-depth analysis is conducted to determine the practical utilization of EVs at the station. The model proposes two charging strategies: immediate charging upon an EVs' return and smart charging. Based on the chosen EVs and charging strategies, a comprehensive assessment of the load profiles for the planned EV charging station is performed. In accordance with the load profiles, a mathematical model to minimize the infrastructure and operation costs of the charging station is proposed. Various pricing schemes are compared to identify the most efficient pricing scheme for the charging station, and economic analyses of the EVs and traditional ambulance vehicles are proposed in this paper. The test results indicate that the progressive pricing scheme is well suited for immediate charging strategies, whereas smart charging should opt for the time-of-use pricing scheme. There is limited research focused on achieving optimal torque control performance of Switched Reluctance Generators (SRGs). The majority of existing studies tend to favor voltage or power control strategies. However, a significant drawback of SRGs is their susceptibility to high torque ripple. In power generation systems, torque ripple implicates fluctuations in the generated power of the generator. Moreover, high torque ripple can lead to mechanical vibrations and noise in the powertrain, impacting the overall system performance. In this paper, a Torque Sharing Function (TSF) with Indirect Instantaneous Torque Control (IITC) for SRG applied to Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) is proposed to minimize torque ripple. The proposed method adjusts the shared reference torque function between the phases based on instantaneous torque, rather than the existing TSF methods formulated with a mathematical expression. Additionally, this paper introduces an innovative speed control scheme for SRG drive using a Fuzzy Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Command (FSTSMC) method. Notably robust against parameter uncertainties and payload disturbances, the proposed scheme ensures finite-time convergence even in the presence of external disturbances, while effectively reducing chattering. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed methods, comprehensive comparisons are made with traditional control techniques, including Proportional–Integral (PI), Integral Sliding Mode Control (ISMC), and Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Control (STSMC). The simulation results, obtained using MATLAB®/SIMULINK® under various speeds and mechanical torque conditions, demonstrate the superior performance and robustness of the proposed approaches. This study presents a thorough experimental analysis of a 250 W four-phase 8/6 SRG. The generator was connected to a DC resistive load, and the analysis focuses on assessing its performance and operational characteristics across different rotational speeds.
