The book reports on advanced topics in interactive robotics research and practice; in particular, it addresses non-technical obstacles to the broadest uptake of these technologies. It focuses on new technologies that can physically and cognitively interact with humans, including neural interfaces, soft wearable robots, and sensor and actuator technologies; further, it discusses important regulatory challenges, including but not limited to business models, standardization, education and ethical–legal–socioeconomic issues. Gathering the outcomes of the 1st INBOTS Conference (INBOTS2018), held on October 16–20, 2018 in Pisa, Italy, the book addresses the needs of a broad audience of academics and professionals working in government and industry, as well as end users. Barnard's theoretical and practical contributions to organization theory by examining his life, career, experience, intellectual relationships, philosophy, method, and theory.Barnard (1886–1961) is considered an innovator in the field with the publication of his seminal work, The Functions of the Executive, in 1938. But why was Barnard able to publish such a groundbreaking book despite the fact that he was a practitioner, not an academic researcher? In pursuit of that question, this book carefully investigates the background of his ideas about management, such as his experience, philosophy, and method. It then traces the process of how Barnard built his concepts of organization as it examines his books, published papers, unpublished manuscripts, and correspondence and systematically summarizes how he built his theory of organization and management. Finally, the author explores how Barnard's theory has the potential to be developed and put into practice by examining his important works after his publication of The Functions of the Executive, which is well known as abstract and difficult. Readers of this present book will come away with a clearer and more systematic understanding of Barnard's theoretical and practical contributions to the field.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2022 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,3, University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (Faculty of Business), language: English, abstract: The purpose of this paper was to examine the long-term viability of three different accommodation sharing platforms (Airbnb, Fairbnb, and Couchsurfing) by evaluating the literature and other source materials available. These platforms'potential and challenges have been highlighted, as well as how each of these platforms contributes to various elements of sustainability. The results indicate that these platforms play different roles in various elements of sustainability. These platforms reduce overproduction and consumption by utilizing spare bedrooms and reducing the need for new hotel constructions. They also make travel more affordable, provide income opportunities (Airbnb & Fairbnb), and promote social interactions. However, they do have certain drawbacks as well. Low-cost travel may encourage people to travel more, resulting in higher CO2 emissions, which may have more negative than positive consequences. However, as shown by the effects of several regulations adopted by different cities, such adverse impacts can be minimized with strict government regulations. Nonetheless, while effective and suitable regulation might help to mitigate the negative effects of these platforms, it is difficult to estimate their exact sustainability repercussions. As a result, this paper calls for a more open examination of accommodation sharing services.

EBES conferences have been an intellectual hub for academic discussion in economics, finance, and business fields and provide network opportunities for participants to make long-lasting academic cooperation. This is the 26th volume of the Eurasian Studies in Business and Economics (EBES's official proceeding series), which includes selected papers from the 38th EBES Conference which took place in Warsaw. The conference was organized in hybrid mode with both online and in-person presentations at the Faculty of Economics Sciences, the University of Warsaw in Warsaw, Poland, on January 12-14, 2022. This book presents a systematic literature review of 156 published papers on business model innovation (BMI). The aim is to identify and integrate the different theoretical perspectives, analytical levels, and empirical contexts in order to deepen understanding of this complex phenomenon. The authors conduct an inductive thematic analysis based on an informal ontological classification that identifies 56 key themes. Within each theme, discussion focuses on thematic patterns, potential inconsistencies and debates, and future directions and opportunities for research. The book makes a number of significant contributions to the field. First, it offers a deeper understanding of the evolution of research on BMI through an ontological map that identifies the key thematic areas in the literature. Second, a multilevel model is developed that clarifies the concept of BMI by identifying its drivers, contingencies, and outcomes. Third, the authors identify clear and specificdirections for further research and offer suggestions on research design, creating an informative road map for the future. The book will be of value both to scholars and researchers and to practitioners.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Software Business, ICSOB 2020, which was held during November 16-18, 2020. This research proposal suggests a positive relationship between the use of heuristics in decision-making and entrepreneurial firm performance. Consequently, the findings of this study could have important implications for the academic area concerned with heuristics. These findings could also provide meaningful implications for the success and sustainability of entrepreneurial firms that are currently facing substantial challenges. Moreover, this study provides valuable information for entrepreneurial and strategic decision-making, and, given the economic importance of entrepreneurial activity, strongly benefits society as a whole. To answer the research question at hand, this paper is structured as follows. Firstly, the literature review will incorporate existing research on strategic decision-making, heuristics, and the research gap, after which the proposed hypothesis will be derived. Secondly, the methodology and research design will be outlined. This section is followed by a description of how to execute the data analysis of the research model. Afterwards, this paper outlines potential findings and contributions in terms of theoretical and practical implications. Moreover, possible limitations will be examined, and an outlook for future research will be provided. Lastly, a brief conclusion will be given.

Cyber risk has emerged as a key threat to financial stability, following recent attacks on financial institutions. This paper presents a novel documentation of cyber risk around the world for financial institutions by analyzing the different types of cyber incidents (data breaches, fraud and business disruption) and identifying patterns using a variety of datasets. The other novel contribution that is outlined is a quantitative framework to assess cyber risk for the financial sector. The framework draws on a standard VaR type framework used to assess various types of stability risk and can be easily applied at the individual country level. The framework is applied in this paper to the available cross-country data and yields illustrative aggregated losses for the financial sector in the sample across a variety of scenarios ranging from 10 to 30 percent of net income.

Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 5,0, Stockholm School of Economics, language: English, abstract: Data Science has been one of the most used buzzwords on corporate agendas in recent years and with it, a new professional, the data scientist, has entered the organizational stage. Surprisingly, Management Accounting literature has not investigated the role of data scientists and their interactions with management accountants so far. Via a qualitative case study, we strive to establish a more nuanced and clearer understanding of the concrete tasks carried out by these organizational players and shed light on the interactions with management accountants. In this paper, chapter 2 presents MA frameworks that combine both the IIS and the MA domains. We further give an overview of tasks that have been historically attributed to management accountants. Subsequently, these tasks are contrasted to those ascribed to the new professional actor, i.e. the data scientist. In this context, we present the research questions of this paper, that aim at closing significant research gaps in this area. Afterwards, method theories are introduced that enable the creation of a theoretical framework. Within chapter 3, the research method and case background are presented, so that the research questions can be analyzed in chapter 4 and, afterwards, discussed in chapter 5. Moreover, in this section a general outlook for the MA domain is given. Finally, the limitations of this study are stated and suggestions for further research are presented in chapter 6.

This book discusses the subject of pathways to a sustainable economy through science and technology innovations which are regarded as the important components of the ‘4th Industrial Revolution'. The volume has been developed from Bangladesh's ‘Vision 2041'agenda which includes development actions needed to catch up with more developed nations. Most importantly, the goals of the ‘Vision 2041'have been taken from the dreams of the architect of independent Bangladesh, Bangabandhu (Friends of Bengal) Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. His dream was to make Bangladesh the Switzerland of Asia. The Father of Bangladesh Nation was killed by assassins'bullets along with his most of the family members in August 1975. After his death, the nation moved backwards while recovering from nine months of liberation post war in 1971.Between 1975 and 1990 Bangladesh was ruled by military and quasi military governments. Bangladesh established a true democratic regime in 1996 withSheikh Mujib's daughter, Sheikh Hasina, who formed the government after 21 years with a mandate to realise the dreams of her father. Sheikh Hasina, had her own 20 year vision for Bangladesh, called, ‘Vision 2021', with plans to make the nation poverty free by 2021. After a pause between 2001 and 2008, Sheikh Hasina returned to power in 2009. Under her consecutive three terms she brought Bangladesh back on track and Bangladesh is one of the nations which reduced poverty half under MDGs by 2015. During her third consecutive term Sheikh Hasina, is on the way to transforming Bangladesh into a ‘middle income'nation by 2021. In recent years, researchers have laid the foundation for multiple theoretical approaches that aim to overcome the LOF. However, there is still a considerable research gap concerning actionable strategies MNEs can apply in practice. Building on the work of these researchers, this thesis aims at contributing to the current literature by taking the perspective of institutional theory. In particular, it examines the effectiveness of isomorphic strategies, inter alias, processes of adaption and imitation of legitimated practices, in reducing the LOF. “We are improving”, said the German chancellor Angela Merkel at the G20 Investment Summit in 2019 as she reported on Germany's efforts to encourage private investment in Africa. In an interview with the German ARD public television, she mentioned the “promising numbers” of the German investments in Africa; a continent that promised “more chances than risks”. Indeed, although German investments in Africa are still on a low level, Africa's importance to Germany as an external trade partner has significantly increased. However, these opportunities have considerable costs and risks attached. One cost factor that is crucially important for German multinational enterprises (MNE) in Africa, as it is amplified by institutional distance, is the ‘liability of foreignness'(LOF). First of all, I use existing literature to construct frameworks to categorize the cost dimensions of the LOF and several isomorphic strategies. Furthermore, using semi-structured expert interviews, this paper evaluates the effectiveness of adaption strategies employed by German MNEs in Africa for different cost dimensions. I argue that isomorphism, i.e., adaption strategies, are of high importance for the success of German investments in Africa. More specifically, I show that networking, the adaption of formal structures, and the adaption to the institutional environment are effective in reducing the LOF by lowering market entry risks, facilitating knowledge acquisition as well as enhancing legitimacy in the host market.

Herbert William Heinrich has been one of the most influential safety pioneers. His work from the 1930s/1940s affects much of what is done in safety today – for better and worse. Heinrich's work is debated and heavily critiqued by some, while others defend it with zeal. Interestingly, few people who discuss the ideas have ever read his work or looked into its backgrounds; most do so based on hearsay, secondary sources, or mere opinion. One reason for this is that Heinrich's work has been out of print for decades: it is notoriously hard to find, and quality biographical information is hard to get.Based on some serious'safety archaeology,'which provided access to many of Heinrich's original papers, books, and rather rich biographical information, this book aims to fill this gap. It deals with the life and work of Heinrich, the context he worked in, and his influences and legacy. The book defines the main themes in Heinrich's work and discusses them, paying attention to their origins, the developments that came from them, interpretations and attributions, and the critiques that they may have attracted over the years. This includes such well-known ideas and metaphor as the accident triangle, the accident sequence (dominoes), the hidden cost of accidents, the human element, and management responsibility.This book is the first to deal with the work and legacy of Heinrich as a whole, based on a unique richness of material and approaching the matter from several (new) angles.
