Owing to novel design concepts and their unique properties, high-entropy alloy (HEA) has become a hot topic in material science. At present, the studies and applications of high-entropy alloy are still mainly limited to the preparation and synthesis of materials. With its wide application in industry, it must involve the research of high-entropy alloy in welding field. This paper describes the welding of high-entropy alloy with the same material, welding between high-entropy alloy and dissimilar material, and welding between dissimilar material with high-entropy alloy as filler material. The paper focuses on analyzing the welding method, high entropy alloy components, the initial state of welding and welding parameters, and other factors on the joint organization and properties. While the high-entropy alloy is mainly applied as filler material, the high entropy effect and hysteresis diffusion effect for interface controlling are particularly important. Finally, the high-entropy alloy coatings under different preparation methods are analyzed in detail, introducing the cladding process, the addition of microelements, the effect of post-heat treatment, and comparing the wear resistance high-entropy alloy coatings under the laser melting process. By summarizing the research and application of high-entropy alloy in the welding field, it is pointed out that the current problems are that the corresponding standard between high- entropy alloy system and welding process has not been established and the formation mechanism of defects has not been clarified. In order to further improve the utilization rate of steel slag in steel slag concrete, C30 double-doped steel slag concrete was prepared by replacing natural coarse aggregate and fine aggregate in concrete with coarse steel slag and fine steel slag at the same mass ratio, and the effects of coarse and fine steel slag aggregates substitution level on the mechanical properties and durability of double-doped steel slag concrete were studied. The results show that the mechanical properties of double-doped steel slag concrete are generally better than those of ordinary concrete. With the increase of coarse and fine steel slag substitution levels, its mechanical properties are enhanced, its carbonization resistance is first enhanced and then weakened, and its resistance to chloride ion permeation is gradually weakened. In this paper, the relationship between the cubic compressive strength of double-doped steel slag concrete and other mechanical indexes was also studied, and the corresponding conversion formula was given. Considering both the mechanical properties and durability of double-doped steel slag concrete, it is suggested that the replacement rate of coarse and fine steel slag aggregates should not be higher than 40% (mass fraction). In this paper, emulsified asphalt powder (EAP), VAE redispersible polymer powder, and SBA emulsion as admixtures were mixed into the cement mortar. Cement mortar strength, water absorption and SEM analysis before and after heat treatment were used to investigate the effect of addition of the three polymers on heat aging resistance of cement mortar at 70 °C. The results show that the addition of three polymers can all decrease the water absorption, and the water absorption decreases with the increase of polymer content. The film-forming property of SBA emulsion is better than that of redispersible polymer powder, so its modified-mortar has the best surface waterproof effect. Compared with VAE, the effect of EAP on mortar waterproofing modification is better after heat treatment. After heat treatment, asphalt component has certain viscous flow at high temperature, and the compressive strength of EAP-modified mortar decreases after heat treatment, and the flexural strength increases first and then decreases with the increase of EAP admixture, and its strength changes mainly reflect the characteristics of asphalt components under high temperature, while those VAE-modified mortar and SBA-modified mortar mainly reflect the characteristics of traditional polymer modified mortar, the polymer film structure hinders moisture migration at the early stage of heat treatment, and the flexible polymer film structure breaks down at the later stage of heat treatment causing strength higher than that before thermal aging. The achievement of "Double World-class" goal relies on the continuous supports from high-level experimental platform. In addition, regarding the current rapid development of science and technology, scientific researchers urgently require the support of high-efficiency, professional and discipline-specific experimental platforms to fastly achieve breakthroughs in their disciplines. The faculty-level experimental platform has received increased attentions due to its few limitations, high flexibility and strong professional. Therefore, the background and design principle of the Experiment Center of Advanced Materials (ECAM) from School of Materials Science and Engineering of a certain university is reviewed. Moreover, the building and operation practice, the exploration of new models and overall achievements of the experimental platform of ECAM are summarized and discussed. Hopefully, this paper can provide valuable experience and opinion on other laboratories construction and operation, as well as boosting the construction of "Double World-class" goals for both universities and disciplines. Representative large models and their related applications, such as Bidirectional encoder representations from transformers (BERT), Generative pretrained transformer (GPT), Segment anything model (SAM), ChatGPT, DALL-E, Wenxin, and Pangu, have made astounding strides and exerted considerable influence across various fields domestically and abroad. They constantly attract the attention and follow-up of diverse societal sectors, including enterprises, universities, and research institutions. Large model applications have been successfully applied in scenarios such as biology, medicine, law, and social governance. Designing, modifying, and constructing domain-specific large models are crucial for truly harnessing their application value. Therefore, this paper provides inspiration for the application of large models in materials science. First, it provides an overview of large models, introducing their basic concepts, developmental process, technical classification, and features. Second, from the perspectives of the general domain and specific large models, this paper summarizes the applications of large models and analyzes the application scenarios and functions of various types of large models. Subsequently, considering the specific needs and current state of research in the field of materials science, this paper reviews the application of large language models, large visual models, and large multimodal models. It integrates engineering strategies and zero-shot knowledge transfer learning from specific tasks in natural language processing and computer vision and referencing typical application cases, clarifying current research paradigms and limiting factors for applying large models to materials science. To verify the effectiveness and potential of the visual large model, basal experiments of image segmentation and key structure extraction are performed on the microscopic image data of four types of materials using improved SAM, including Ni-superalloy, superalloy, polycrystalline pure iron grain, and Inconel 939. The experimental results reveal that the zero-shot segmentation capability of SAM has enormous potential for accurate and efficient representation of material microstructures. With the help of tailored prompt engineering, precise masks of the precipitated phase, grain boundaries, and cracks can be outputted without any label. Finally, this paper proposes future research opportunities for technologies and methods related to large models in materials science. This paper assesses the feasibility and technical challenges for the development and tuning of unimodal to comprehensive multimodal large models. With continuous innovations and collaborations, the horizon for large models in materials science seems boundlessly promising. The integration of these models can produce a new era of advanced research, leading to advancements that were previously considered unattainable. The symbiosis between materials science and large models can pave the way for unforeseen discoveries, enriching our scientific prowess.

Since the discovery of graphene, various two-dimensional materials with novel properties have attracted more and more attention. Janus two-dimensional materials have asymmetric surface properties. These special structures often have peculiar electrical, magnetic and optical properties, which have become a research hotspot in the field of material science in recent years. In this paper, the structures of Janus two-dimensional materials CrXX'(X/X'= S,Se,Te)(CrSSe, CrSTe, CrSeTe) were built, their electronic, magnetic, optical properties were studied, and the effect of biaxial strain on above properties was studied. In terms of electronic structure, the results show that CrSSe, CrSTe and CrSeTe are metallic and excellent conductors of electrons. Biaxial strain does not change their metallicity, which means their electronic structure has good robustness. In terms of magnetic properties, due to the contribution of unpaired electrons in the 3d orbital of Cr atom, CrXX'(X/X' = S,Se,Te) have long range magnetic ordering. By applying tensile strain, their magnetic moments increase, and by applying compressive strain, their magnetic moments decrease. In addition, CrXX'(X/X' = S,Se,Te) have higher Curie temperature. The Curie temperature of CrSSe is 165 K, that of CrSeTe is 195 K, and that of CrSTe is 310 K, which is above the room temperature. For optical properties, the results show that CrXX'(X/X' = S,Se,Te) have excellent absorption capacity of visible and ultraviolet light, which is about 50% higher than that of typical light absorption material graphene. Their light absorption coefficients can be adjusted by applying strain, compressive strain and tensile strain can move the absorption spectrum to short wave and long wave respectively. In conclusion, this work provides theoretical guidance for the further study of the application of two-dimensional monolayer CrXX' (X/X' = S,Se,Te) in the field of new room temperature spintronic devices. Thermoplastic composites have excellent mechanical properties and are ideal structure materials for reusable launch vehicles. The research of mechanical behavior has attracted tremendous attention in the fields of solid mechanics and material sciences worldwide. In this paper, the prediction methods of macro-mechanical properties, plastic constitutive relations, damage and fracture mechanical behavior, and analysis of mechanical behavior of typical structures of thermoplastic composite are reviewed. At present, many important key problems need to be solved, such as accurate prediction of macroscopic mechanical properties of thermoplastic composites, reasonable characterization of elastoplastic damage mechanical behavior of thermoplastic composites, and simulation of mechanical behavior of thermoplastic composite structures in complex multi-field coupling environment such as aerodynamic heating, overload and impact. Future research can be carried out from the following aspects: (1) to establish a unified macro and micro mechanical property prediction model of thermoplastic composites, (2) carry out macro and meso-mechanical analysis of carbon nanotubes reinforced thermoplastic composites, (3) study the mechanical behavior of thermoplastic composites under typical multifield coupling environment such as thermodynamic coupling, (4) carry out structure-level experimental research on thermoplastic composites. In recent years, Material Genome Initiative (MGI) has become a global hot spot. The lack of data sources and irregular data storage methods have led to a lack of structured data that can be used for machine learning model training in the materials field, which has become a bottleneck for researchers in predicting material performance. With the continuous development of materials science, a large amount of information contained in the materials field text has become the focus of attention for researchers, and has become the main data sources for materials field personnel to apply machine learning. How to obtain a large amount of effective materials data is a new challenge at this stage. This article uses natural language processing technology to obtain valid data from the aluminum-silicon alloy materials literature. Named entity recognition is an important subtask in natural language processing, which aims to identify entities with meaning in text. In this paper, five types of entities are selected from the material science literature, and an aluminum-silicon alloy material entity recognition data set is constructed by hand annotation, which includes 5 347 sentences and 2 835 entities. In order to reduce the dependence of natural language processing tasks on annotation expectations, transfer learning is used to pre-train the language model and apply it to specific domain tasks. Combining entity characteristics, joint modeling is carried out based on ALBERT (A lite BERT) pre-training language model and conditional random fields (CRF), and the pre-training model is applied to alloy material entity recognition based on active learning. Based on a small number of labeled training set samples, combined with active learning, the F1 value, accuracy rate, and recall rate of the model are increased by 0.61%, 2.68%, and 0.29%, respectively. Experiments prove that combining pre-training and active learning can further reduce the dependence of entity recognition task models on labeled data and the cost of manual labeling. The research results of this paper can solve the problem of material data islands and improve the problem of material genome machine learning, which has been in the dilemma of small-scale data sets. Materials are the basis for human being survival and social development. To keep abreast with the increasing needs from all aspects of human society, there are huge needs in the development of advanced materials as well as high-efficiency but low-cost manufacturing strategies that are both sustainable and tunable. Synthetic biology, a new engineering principle taking gene regulation and engineering design as the core, greatly promotes the development of life sciences. This discipline has also contributed to the development of material sciences and will continuously bring new ideas to future new material design. In this paper, we review recent advances in applications of synthetic biology in material sciences, with the focus on how synthetic biology could enable synthesis of new polymeric biomaterials and inorganic materials, phage display and directed evolution of proteins relevant to materials development, living functional materials, engineered bacteria-regulated artificial photosynthesis system as well as applications of gene circuits for material sciences.

This paper reports the direct growth of ink green, high specific capacitance, photosensitive double-functional poly aniline film on stainless steel network by electrochemical method, thus the adhesive is completely omitted for decreasing resistance. The polyaniline samples were characterized and tested by ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV), galvanostatic charge/discharge (GCD) and electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The comparison of capacitance was carried out under different test conditions. Among the three kinds of polyaniline with network structure, the most porous polyaniline network has the largest specific capacitance (443.7 F/g) and high conductivity (44 S/cm) because the loose network structure material can fully contact with the electrolyte which improves the specific capacitance of the polyaniline film The polyaniline film also has good photosensitive properties with the strongest photoelectric sensitive to white light, which can be used as a photosensitive sensor device. To study the relationship between the microstructure and the statistical behavior of twinning deformation in ferroelastics, an interatomic potential function based on the Landau potential was established and used in molecular dynamics simulations. The results demonstrated that strain-controlled twinning deformation in ferroelastics strongly depended on temperature, elastic modulus and system size. Sudden changes of the domain pattern manifested themselves as "jerks" in the potential energy curve of the sample. In the plastic regime, the statistical behavior of twinning deformation changes from the low-temperature power-law distribution to the Kohlrausch distribution at medium temperature and the Vogel-Fulcher distribution at high temperature. In the yield regime, the statistical behavior of twinning deformation follows power-law statistics in a large range of temperature and strain rate, and the non-spanning avalanches follow the parabolic temporal profiles. The morphological analysis showed that shear deformation can generate high-density domain boundary for the ferroelastic materials with smaller elastic modulus, and the boundary density will increase with the decrease of the sample size.
