The aim of this paper is to present the reflection of seniors about the way, the level of education in the period of 1918 - 1945 (the first Czechoslovak Republic and the World War II). The authors want to point at the social and economic specifics of the family environment in rural and city environments, which affected the parents' access to education of their children in relation to several regions of Central Europe. The authors expect the unique characteristics of the social status of teacher in rural areas, its irreplaceable role as a vocational counsellor and in the role of educator. The tool of the research is the synthesis and comparison of respondents' answers. The synthesis of seniors' reflections will be relevant output characterizing the system and the level of elementary education in the period of 1918 - 1945. Contact with respondents was carried out by students - future teachers who were tasked to realize an interview with seniors older than 80 years. The interviews were conducted by 150 student-teachers. The research was also attended by the foreign student teachers, from Serbia, Austria, Croatia, Ukraine, who declare Slovak nationality and are the students at University in Nitra, Slovakia.
