This study examines the relationship between English language proficiency outcomes and the use of a Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) tool that is designed to strengthen the academic English and oral proficiency skills of young English Learners (ELs). We compare scores on a standardized English language proficiency assessment for 2,034 ELs from kindergarten through Grade 5 in the US who either used the CALL tool during the 2020-2021 academic school year (n=1,478) or did not (n=556). Descriptive analyses show larger scores for students who used the program than those who did not, and this was seen across student demographic subgroups. Statistical analyses reveal that this difference is significant even when accounting for student demographics and enrolled school and that greater program use is related to higher proficiency scores. The largest effects are seen for oral proficiency scores. The study raises implications for use of CALL tools in contexts where English is the language of education. These proceedings contain the papers of the IADIS International Conference on Cognition and Exploratory Learning in the Digital Age (CELDA 2013), October 22-24, 2013, which has been organized by the International Association for Development of the Information Society (IADIS), co-organized by The University of North Texas (UNT), sponsored by the Association for Educational Communication and Technologies (AECT), and endorsed by the Japanese Society for Information and Systems in Education (JSISE). The CELDA 2013 conference aims to address the main issues concerned with evolving learning processes and supporting pedagogies and applications in the digital age. There have been advances in both cognitive psychology and computing that have affected the educational arena. The convergence of these two disciplines is increasing at a fast pace and affecting academia and professional practice in many ways. Paradigms such as just-in-time learning, constructivism, student-centered learning, and collaborative approaches have emerged and are being supported by technological advancements such as simulations, virtual reality, and multi-agents systems. This book is a compilation of papers presented at a seminar on cognitive development in South Africa and one additional paper. The papers were intended to stimulate research and stress the need for program evaluations. Papers concerned: (1) an initiative to improve black primary school teachers' English language, thinking, and teaching skills, and primary school students' English language and thinking skills; (2) the evaluation of a program to improve students' English language skills; (3) a model for improving the thinking skills of economically disadvantaged students and enhancing their accessibility to various academic disciplines; (4) efforts to assist black university students who are considered underprepared for university studies; (5) a study that examined the effects of ethnicity, degree of urbanization, and geographic location on children's social interaction and language usage in the year before they enter school; (6) a project to improve teachers' ability to teach thinking skills; (7) projects that apply Feuerstein's instrumental enrichment program to the needs of teachers in training and of disadvantaged students in enrichment programs; and (8) a teacher orientation and training program that emphasizes the teachers' awareness of students' active involvement in the learning process. Prior studies identified effective, but mainly non-digital, homework aids. This research involved 18 middle school students in a lo-fi prototyping study to integrate traditional homework support tools with intelligent tutoring systems (ITS), leveraging rich log data for personalized learning. Feature investigations in standardized diaries, goal setting, homework graphing, and reminders revealed a preference for goal-setting, informing a refined prototype exploring students' attitudes towards self-set versus system-generated goals. Results indicate students prefer system-recommended goals, express goals by problem count and time, and value goal difficulty feedback to foster autonomy. Providing data-driven feedback and fading system-set goals in ITS could improve self-regulation during homework practices and equity.

A paper describes how David Bohm's holographic world view can be used to design a whole language program. Characterized by interconnectedness and multidimensionality, Bohm's holographic paradigm joins Eastern and Western belief systems in an old fashion pursuit of wisdom, on the one hand, and a new fashion pursuit of solutions to nonlinear problems in chaotic systems, on the other. These two characteristics, in turn, inform the design of a whole language program that combines procedural knowledge (k-w-l, know-want-learn, learning strategy and D. N. Perkins' knowledge as design); declarative knowledge (great world literature); and cooperative learning. The program helps each non-elite middle school student to reach full height as a maker of knowledge others will want to read, hear, or see. (Author/SG)

Artificial intelligence (AI) education is still in the exploratory stage for K-12 schools. There is a serious lack of studies that informed schools teachers about AI curriculum design. Accordingly, this paper presented an AI curriculum and examined whether the curriculum improves students' perceived AI knowledge, attitudes, and motivation towards AI, as well as caters to students with different genders and academic achievement. It involved 64 grade 8-9 students. Results show that in the AI curriculum, 1) the students' self-report indicated that they became more competent, developed more positive attitude and higher intrinsic motivation to learn AI, 2) there were insignificant differences between girl and boys, and 3) there were almost no significant differences between high and low achieving students.

This study explores the experiences of transnational Latina mothers whose children are enrolled in hyper-gentrified dual-language programs. Drawing upon transnationalism (Sánchez & Kasun, 2012) and differential consciousness (Sandoval, 1991), I explored how these mothers' own complex identities informed their navigation of conflicting discourses that position dual-language education on one hand as part of an anti-racist, social justice movement, and conversely as a neoliberal enrichment tool that confers a competitive advantage for privileged children. Ultimately, this paper highlights the ways mothers shifted between these ideologies strategically, centering community and working to expand access to these programs to other Spanish-speaking and transnational families in ways that have increased racial and linguistic diversity in these programs, but have fallen short of increasing socioeconomic diversity.

Modern educators consider that the acquiring of important-for-life competencies can give an individual the opportunities to orient in a modern society, informational space, changing development of labour and post-graduation education. Competency-based approach became a new conceptual orientation of schools in foreign countries and causes a number of discussions in international and national levels of different countries. Comfort and preparedness are dispositions that along with teacher knowledge, comprise teacher quality (cf. Clarke & Hollingsworth, 2002). Professional development programs that help teachers understand and respond to individual students' strengths and needs can support equity in the classroom by building teachers' preparedness and comfort, which enhances the likelihood of teachers' engaging in differentiated instruction to support all students. This paper draws from two randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of "Math for All," which show consistent, positive results of the professional development (PD) program on elementary school teachers' reports of comfort and preparedness to teach mathematics to diverse students. We found comfort and preparedness to be modestly but consistently related to self-reported mathematical instructional practices across both studies. The fact that the results were similar across the two RCTs even though the modes of delivery differed (PD led by developers in RCT #1; by local staff developers and teacher leaders in RCT #2) also speaks to the scalability of the "Math for All" program.

In recent years, many policies have been formulated and strongly promoted to improve the quality of early childhood education. In 2012, the Taiwanese government enacted a new national curriculum framework for early childhood education to enhance the quality of early childhood education programs. This new framework is key competence-oriented, meaning preschool educators must focus on children's learning and inquiry processes when designing the curriculum. A series of projects collecting information on the quality of the learning environment and learning outcomes of children aged 2 to 9, called the Early Childhood Learning Database, was built to understand the effectiveness of the curriculum reform. As a longitudinal study, young children's learning is long-term tracked and analyzed to understand the authentic situation and relevant factors to form a policy for optimizing education quality. The content of organic chemistry is closely related to our everyday life, to nature, and to the human body. Illustrations play a big role in the acquisition of the course material, especially if those help to make the interpretation of the textual content easier. Hybrid illustrations are made up of combinations of realistic images (photographs, drawings) with abstract conventional elements (symbols, models, chemical equations). This type of illustration fuses difficult-tointerpret symbols often found in chemistry with everyday images that bring students closer to the content. The following study examines the use of digitally edited hybrid illustrations in interactive learning tasks that were used in the review and practice lessons on the Hydrocarbons topic in eighth-grade organic chemistry classes. The research took place in an experimental group of students from primary school in Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia), during which the students solved the given tasks on their cell phones via the Moodle platform. In the control group, teaching and learning took place in the traditional, or conventional way applying a lecture and a discussion method. After processing the Hydrocarbons topic, the experimental and control groups underwent the same testing process, the results of which prove the advantages of using the tasks created with the help of digital hybrid illustrations in the abstract parts of the curriculum. The most important source of knowledge in primary school teaching is the textbook. This research aimed to determine the differences in graphic illustrations in the contents of natural sciences in a regular textbook and a textbook for children with special educational needs in the Republic of Serbia. As the number of subjects that deal with the contents of natural sciences for children with special educational needs is small, as well as the number of schools that implement this type of teaching, physics is taken as a subject, because the number of common topics is quite similar. The research aim was to analyze illustrations in selected physics textbooks for the 6th grade of primary education, by the criteria for dividing illustrations by types, for determining abstractness and relative representation of illustrations. In addition, a supplementary classification of illustrations was applied. The obtained results indicate that the number of illustrations concerning the number of words is higher in textbooks for children with special educational needs, as well as that the most represented are illustrations from everyday life and greater abstraction compared to regular textbooks. Since the physics textbook for children with disabilities is quite old, these results can be examined in practice among teachers and help future textbook authors to write the best quality textbook taking into account the needs of teachers and children with special educational needs. The construction of a concept can be developed from the students' prior knowledge. Regarding deaf students, it is considered their conceptions conceived through vision. Given this, the present research was conducted with a group of deaf students in the 7th year of elementary school with the aim of verifying what ideas these students had about science. The research was carried out with a qualitative approach, using action research. For data collection, an activity was proposed with the elaboration of drawings, carried out in three stages: (1) initial conversation and elaboration of the drawings; (2) explanation of the drawings (in Libras); (3) closure of the activity. Drawings were prepared, speeches (in Libras) transcribed and notes from the logbook were used for analysis. The analyzed data revealed three categories in which students conceived decontextualized views, also demonstrating a distance from science and applications in everyday life. In relation to the visuality of the deaf student, the difficulty was evidenced in selecting and interpreting the various information that was conveyed around them. Environmental problems are faced all over the world. The quality of the environment has a tendency to deteriorate, so environmental education becomes one of the essential conditions for continued existence. In order to improve the situation, it is necessary to raise public awareness and encourage behaviour change. It is obvious that environmental education is needed, which would raise people's level of awareness, and encourage them to change their behaviour, accordingly, changes would take place in the field of production and industry, consumption habits, and the relationship with the environment itself. Environmental education is especially important in primary school. In forming children's environmental awareness, a great responsibility falls on the primary school teacher, therefore his preparation in the field of environmental education must be adequate. Empirical qualitative research aimed to reveal how future primary school teachers understand the meaning of environmental education, the topic, and what kind of realisation vision they have. 136 students from two Lithuanian universities, future teachers of preschool and primary education participated in the study. Verbal research data were analysed using the quantitative content analysis method. The research results allow us to state that environmental education is treated as significant, the themes of environmental education cover various areas that can and should be studied in primary school. Future teachers' environmental education implementation vision at school includes both cognitive and practical-behavioural components. [For the full proceedings, see ED629086.]

Science education objectives in Brazil have evolved over time. Initially, the focus was on creating scientifically literate citizens who could relate scientific concepts to their daily lives. In 2017, the São Paulo City Curriculum for Natural Sciences was introduced to teach students scientific literacy through inquiry-based teaching methods. This study focused on the perceptions of teachers from an primary school in São Paulo who participated by filling out a Google Forms questionnaire. The findings revealed that the majority of participating teachers had undergone curriculum implementation training. While they considered the organization of disciplinary content to be similar to their previous teaching methods, they struggled with implementing inquiry-based teaching strategies and linking scientific content to the United Nation Foundation 2030 sustainable development goals. This paper investigates two specific probabilistic biases which middle graders usually exhibit when reasoning about probability and randomness on assessment items. We discuss how students' reasoning about key probability concepts undergirds statistics literacy related to randomness, independence, and the likelihood of future events based on past results. We examine factors evoking misconceptions and students' (in)consistency in exhibiting them. Findings indicate that misconceptions can be evoked based on three types of factors including (1) students' particular understandings of probability and randomness, (2) general item characteristics, and (3) aspects of probability in items. Moreover, possession of a specific misconception will most likely result in exhibiting the bias again on other occasions including the same evoking factors (consistency). This theoretical paper examines views about the role of language and mathematical discourse in learning mathematics. Current research is still addressing what constitutes a mathematical discourse. As new conceptions of the purpose of language use in mathematics are explored, and associated ontological and epistemic positions are revealed, one might ask: how are we able to reframe our view of language to support a social participation perspective? This paper proposes the consideration of Wittgenstein's philosophy of language games to shift our conception of classroom language use in mathematics to encompass broader contextual features such as participation, patterns of exchange and social norms.

This paper explores three multilingual students' (9 to 11-years-old) conceptual understanding of three-dimensional (3D) shapes as displayed through peer and classroom interactions in two New Zealand primary classes. Bakhtin's dialogic theory and Garfinkel's ethnomethodology inform the theoretical framework. The paper presents two excerpts from audio-video recorded data. Findings suggest that the students use their multilingual capacities to convey their meanings of geometry shapes as they engage in peer and classroom interactions. The paper recommends that it is crucial to explore prosodic features of the language to facilitate the meaning-making process during teaching and learning of geometry.

This paper systematically explores how Large Language Models (LLMs) generate explanations of code examples of the type used in intro-to-programming courses. As we show, the nature of code explanations generated by LLMs varies considerably based on the wording of the prompt, the target code examples being explained, the programming language, the temperature parameter, and the version of the LLM. Nevertheless, they are consistent in two major respects for Java and Python: the readability level, which hovers around 7-8 grade, and lexical density, i.e., the relative size of the meaninful words with respect to the total explanation size. Furthermore, the explanations score very high in correctness but less on three other metrics: completeness, conciseness, and contextualization. Collaborative learning is a complex process during which two or more learners exchange opinions, construct shared knowledge, and solve problems together. While engaging in this interactive process, learners' satisfaction toward their partners plays a crucial role in defining the success of the collaboration. If intelligent systems could predict peer satisfaction early during collaboration, they could intervene with adaptive support. However, while extensive studies have associated peer satisfaction with factors such as social presence, communication, and trustworthiness, there is no research on automatically predicting learners' satisfaction toward their partners. To fill this gap, this paper investigates the automatic prediction of peer satisfaction by analyzing 44 middle school learners' interactions during collaborative coding tasks. We extracted three types of features from dialogues: (1) linguistic features indicating semantics; (2) acoustic-prosodic features including energy and pitch; and (3) visual features including eye gaze, head pose, facial behaviors, and body pose. We then trained several regression models to predict the peer satisfaction scores that learners received from their partners. The results revealed that head position and body location were significant indicators of peer satisfaction: lower head and body distances between partners were associated with more positive peer satisfaction. This work is the first to investigate the multimodal prediction of peer satisfaction during collaborative problem solving, and represents a step toward the development of real-time intelligent systems that support collaborative learning. In this paper, we report on data gathered through Talanoa on how Pasifika students can be supported to learn mathematics. The perspectives of five teachers were analysed, highlighting three themes. Firstly, the importance for Pasifika students to feel a sense of belonging at school. Secondly, how the core cultural values of Pasifika students can be drawn on to develop effective social and sociomathematical norms. Finally, the significance of presenting learning and mathematical activity in authentic contextual frames to support engagement and participation in learning. These findings offer potential for implementing pedagogical approaches that are meaningful, relevant, and can support the mathematics learning of many students currently marginalised in New Zealand schools.

Mathematical self-concept refers to the perceived ability that one has in being able to do mathematics. While it has been shown to be a significant predictor for how students learn and apply mathematics, little research has been conducted into the relationship between the mathematical self-concept of teachers and their pedagogical practices in the mathematics classroom. This paper reports on a section of the findings from a small mixed methods study that sought to ascertain the nature of primary teachers' mathematical self-concept and how it is related to their teaching practices. Findings suggest that a teachers' mathematical self-concept does not necessarily reflect the mathematics practices evident in their classroom.

The description "primary mathematics specialist" has become more frequently used in Australia in the past 10 years, suggesting sustained interest in deepening teacher expertise. Despite this, there is limited contextual research about how to prepare in-service teachers for such roles, and the organising structures needed to facilitate their progress. This paper describes background and emerging insights from a project offering sustained and supported learning experiences for in-service teachers to become primary mathematics specialist teachers in and across their school. Curriculum and contextual experiences designed around a theoretical framework of leadership development implemented over 2 years are described. Early insights include the "priming" influence of an extended focus on mathematical content and pedagogical knowledge on participants' confidence to lead others, and the benefits of being explicit about enabling structures that promote sustainable growth and change.

Primary mathematics leadership has become a focus for improving the teaching of mathematics within Australian primary schools. Much of the training and support for those in the role have concentrated on content knowledge, rather than leadership training. There are currently no guidelines or standards in place to support the complex and multi-faceted roles and responsibilities of primary mathematics leaders. This paper reports on the initial stage of a research project examining how primary mathematics leadership is conceptualised and experienced. It reports on survey findings regarding teachers and leaders' understanding of primary mathematics leadership.

All teachers of mathematics aim to provide productive learning experiences that cater for students in their care. The planning of effective and engaging mathematics lessons is complex and requires expertise. In a larger study survey data, observations and interviews were used to investigate the ways in which School Mathematics Leaders supported teachers to learn. This paper reports results from case study research and focuses on the actions of one School Mathematics Leader during planning meetings. Findings highlight a range of supportive actions, which included developing constructive working relationships with teachers, fostering knowledge of mathematical content and curriculum and facilitating collaborative team planning.

This paper outlines the rationale for, and some elements of, a particular approach to teaching and learning mathematics in the early years. The researchers worked with two school systems to offer both centrally delivered and school-based teacher professional learning, which included the application of illustrative teaching resources. The project gathered a range of data from teachers and leaders on their dispositions and knowledge, as well as the opportunities and constraints they experienced, and the influence these variables had on planning, teaching and student learning outcomes.

Supporting students of all levels to move beyond empirical arguments, which employ example based reasoning to endorse universal truths and are thus mathematically invalid, remains a challenging goal in mathematics education. Arguments that make use of generic examples are both mathematically valid and accessible for even young learners. However, discerning whether students are viewing or using an example as a specific case, or a general case, is difficult. In this paper, we open the space between empirical and generic use of examples and establish categories of example-use regarding odd and even numbers. We reveal discursive markers pointing towards whether a learner is referring to particularity or generality in their example-based reasoning.

This paper describes how one third and final year pre-service (PST) used curriculum materials when planning for primary mathematics teaching on practicum. The findings were drawn from a semi-structured focus group interview, where four PSTs recalled how they planned for primary teaching during a previous practicum. This case study shows how one PST used curriculum planning documents from the practicum setting, and a teacher's guide when planning mathematics lessons. Planning processes are also identified, and implications for associate teachers (ATs), PSTs, and mathematics Initial Teacher Educators are discussed.

While interdisciplinary approaches in the STEM subjects are widely advocated there are concerns that disciplinary learning can be compromised, especially in mathematics. The Interdisciplinary Mathematics and Science (IMS) project is a three-year longitudinal study in four Victorian primary schools that has developed a pedagogical approach to mathematics and science learning where data modelling and representation are common to each. Investigations include astronomy, ecology, chemistry, fast plant growth, force and motion, water use, heat and temperature, body height, light and microorganisms. The paper describes the role of mathematics in the IMS pedagogical model and design of learning sequences.

The intangible concept of data, as part of statistical literacy, can be complex for young children to grasp. Inquiry as a pedagogy has potential for supporting student development of statistical literacy as the investigation process is driven by the inquiry question. The aim of this paper is to gain insight into how a teacher's communication processes with her students supported their emerging understandings about the abstract concept of data. In this exploratory case study, we present data from a Year 4 classroom (age 9) in a guided mathematical inquiry within the STEM context of agricultural science. The inquiry question the students addressed was, "How big is a leaf?" The inquiry focused on linking data to the real-life context the data represented.

In this paper we report on an aspect of a larger study and explore whether a framework for teacher STEM Capability Sets (SCS) enhanced teacher planning and the implementation of mathematics active STEM tasks. A case study approach was employed to understand how a classroom teacher used the digital resource, Gapminder, to teach a Year 5/6 cohort of students to interpret data as the basis for a STEM assessment. The research found that using the SCS as a guide, and emphasising mathematics in STEM learning and assessment, allowed the teacher to: reflect on existing STEM capabilities; observe the enhancement of other capabilities; and identify areas for future development.

Participation structures are important in relation to who gets equitable access to mathematics within classrooms premised on co-construction of mathematical reasoning. This paper takes a strength-based focus to explore how two teachers extended their Pasifika students' known repertoires of practice to encompass others, which supported them to better engage in mathematics. The data illustrates the importance of teachers drawing on task contexts and student ways of knowing and being to facilitate student engagement in reasoned discourse and argumentation. The teacher actions provide a model which other teachers could draw on when teaching mathematics to students from predominantly collectivist groupings.

In order to discuss the role of mathematics education in developing students' STEM Capabilities and 21st Century skills, it is necessary to define what is meant by these terms given the extent to which they are broadly used in global contexts. A literature review aimed at providing clarity, through affording a concise interpretation of each term for the Australian context, enabled the development of a working framework for defining 21st Century skills and STEM capabilities. This paper provides working definitions and reports on initial findings from a larger three-phase study aimed at exploring secondary mathematics teachers' beliefs, attitudes and practices, towards the role mathematics education plays in developing students' STEM capabilities and 21st Century skills.

This paper reports on teachers' perceptions of students learning as part of a project examining teacher practice and student learning when using "ScratchMaths" in their classroom programmes. The project used design-based methodology, incorporating video-recorded classroom excerpts; teacher interviews; and teacher analysis and review of their practice. The teachers identified the students' problem solving, using unplugged activities, and collaborating using explicit mathematical and coding language as ways to facilitate mathematical thinking. They also recognised that their practice became more faciliatory, with their understanding of coding developing through learning with their students.

In this paper, we report on the pedagogical actions of one teacher in eliciting and developing students' mathematical reasoning during one mathematics lesson. The findings illustrate that through the careful design and planning of a contextually relevant task (the construction of a manu tukutuku), and the implementation of specific teacher actions, a group of marginalised students were provided access to exploring the concept of equivalence.

The transition between arithmetic and algebraic thinking is challenging for students. One notable difficulty for students is understanding algebraic symbols--pronumerals. Researchers are exploring pedagogical approaches in seeking to address this issue. The current paper is contributing to this body of literature by illustrating how an online card matching game-based learning activity supports students' understanding of pronumerals.

As imperceptible as it is, mathematics is fundamental and is present on several occasions in our daily lives, but among 65 countries Brazil still ranks 53rd in education. The lack of investment in primary education has affected students learning since the early years. From this perspective, this paper proposed to verify teaching/learning in mathematics discipline for elementary school students through playful games, a fun method that can be used at various times and aims to review and fix the content in a practical way and interactive. For this, a game named "Mathematical rods" was elaborated a renewal of the hobby "Cat rods". The operations present in the game are simple, focused on basic mathematics and can still be adapted depending on the level of knowledge of the students. The game was applied to three groups of six 9th grade students of the State College Professor Izidoro Luiz Ceravolo, located in the city of Apucarana, Paraná in Brazil. Therefore, in addition to dynamic and creative, we conclude that this educational interpretation is easy and accessible, a tool that can be used in any public institution, contributing to the learning process of students. It is expected that students who learn Indonesian will be able to communicate both orally and in writing. However, students continue to face numerous difficulties when confronted with Indonesian conversation, such as feeling uncomfortable, stammering, or simply remaining silent when they are asked about their opinions. As such, this study will consolidate the findings of past studies on the topic of increasing speaking skills, particularly for elementary school students, using a literature review technique. This study collects data from Google Scholars and papers published in 2020-2021 which are filtered using the keyword "speaking skills for elementary school students." The study's findings suggest the need for role models and learning material that are age-appropriate for elementary school students. The range of enjoyable learning models, distinctive learning media, and even the combination of various models and media can serve as references for teachers aiming for establishing a meaningful learning environment, particularly for elementary school students looking to enhance their speaking skills. Many studies use instructional designs that include two or more artifacts (digital manipulatives, tables, graphs) to support students' development of reasoning about covarying quantities. While students' forms of covariational reasoning and the designs are often the focus of these studies, the way students' interactions and transitions between artifacts shape their actions and thinking is often neglected. By examining the transitions that students make between artifacts as they construct and reorganize their reasoning, our study aimed to justify claims made by various studies about the nature of the synergy of artifacts. In this paper, we present data from a design experiment with a pair of sixth-grade students to discuss how their transitions between artifacts provided a constructive space for them to reason about covarying quantities in graphs. This paper describes how fifth-grade English Learner students (ELs) in an urban school district develop the mathematics register during a problem-solving lesson. It provides examples of students' work to illustrate how they use the mathematics register to communicate their mathematical ideas orally and in writing. The teacher implemented teaching practices such as mathematics discourse to facilitate their students' development of the mathematics register during the problem-solving lesson. Students were engaged in a problem-solving task that involved fractions. Findings provide insights into EL students' challenges when learning the mathematics register and inform instruction about the importance of incorporating teaching practices such as paraphrasing and assessing others' reasoning to support students in learning the mathematics register through problem-solving. This study examined the role of student generated drawings to offload cognitive demands of a mathematical problem. We used Unit Transformation Graphs to compare students' thought processes when they had to solve the problem mentally, and when they were allowed to use pen and paper. The results indicated that the possibility to rely on drawings helped the participants to free up working memory resources and complete a cognitively demanding fractional task.
