As an indispensable part of the power system, transformers need to be continuously monitored to detect anomalies or faults in a timely manner to avoid serious damage to the power grid and society. This article proposes a combined model for transformer state prediction, which integrates gas concentration prediction and fault diagnosis models. First, based on the historical monitoring data, each characteristic gas sequence is subjected to one optimal variational mode decomposition (OVMD) and one complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN). The decomposed sub-sequences are input into a bi-directional long short-term memory network (Bi-LSTM) optimized by the sparrow search algorithm (SSA) for prediction, and the predicted value of each sub-sequence was then superimposed to be the predicted value of the characteristic gas. We input the predicted values of each gas into the improved sparrow search algorithm-optimized support vector machine (ISSA-SVM) model, which can output the final fault type. After the construction of the combined model of state prediction is completed, this paper uses three actual cases to test the model, and at the same time, it uses the traditional fault diagnosis methods to judge the cases and compare these methods with the model in this paper. The results show that the combined model of transformer state prediction constructed in this paper is able to predict the type of transformer faults in the future effectively, and it is of great significance for the practical application of transformer fault type diagnosis. Nowadays, the microgrid system is characterized by a diversification of power factors and a complex network structure. Existing studies on microgrid fault diagnosis and troubleshooting mostly focus on the fault detection and operation optimization of a single power device. However, for increasingly complex microgrid systems, it becomes increasingly challenging to effectively contain faults within a specific spatiotemporal range. This can lead to the spread of power faults, posing great harm to the safety of the microgrid. The topology optimization of the microgrid based on deep reinforcement learning proposed in this paper starts from the overall power grid and aims to minimize the overall failure rate of the microgrid by optimizing the topology of the power grid. This approach can limit internal faults within a small range, greatly improving the safety and reliability of microgrid operation. In order to achieve low carbon emissions in the power grid, the impact of new energy grid connections on the power grid should be reduced, as well as the peak-to-valley load difference caused by large-scale electric vehicle grid connections. This paper proposes a two-tier, low-carbon optimal dispatch master–slave game model involving virtual power plant operators as well as electric vehicle operators. Firstly, the carbon flow is tracked based on the proportional sharing principle, and the carbon emission factor during the charging and discharging process of electric vehicles is calculated. Secondly, the node carbon potential and time-sharing tariff are used to guide and change the charging behaviour of electric vehicles and to construct a master–slave game model for low-carbon optimal scheduling with the participation of multiple subjects, with economic scheduling at the upper level of the model and demand response scheduling at the lower level. Finally, the IEEE30 node system is used as an example to verify that the method adopted in this paper can effectively reduce the peak-to-valley difference of loads, reduce the carbon emissions of the grid, and reduce the cost of each participating entity. To advance carbon neutrality policies, many countries are increasingly integrating Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) into their energy mix. However, for harnessing natural energy in power generation, RESs present challenges in output control, potentially leading to power imbalances. Such imbalances, when coupled with an excessive reliance on unpredictable RES, may necessitate the curtailment of grid-integrated renewable generation, halting production despite available capacity. This paper proposes strategies to mitigate the economic and operational efficiency impacts of increased RESs on the power grid. There are several complex and unpredictable aspects that affect the power grid. To make short-term power load forecasting more accurate, a short-term power load forecasting model that utilizes the VMD-Crossformer is suggested in this paper. First, the ideal number of decomposition layers was ascertained using a variational mode decomposition (VMD) parameter optimum approach based on the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC). Second, the original data was decomposed into multiple modal components using VMD, and then the original data were reconstructed with the modal components. Finally, the reconstructed data were input into the Crossformer network, which utilizes the cross-dimensional dependence of multivariate time series (MTS) prediction; that is, the dimension-segment-wise (DSW) embedding and the two-stage attention (TSA) layer were designed to establish a hierarchical encoder–decoder (HED), and the final prediction was performed using information from different scales. The experimental results show that the method could accurately predict the electricity load with high accuracy and reliability. The MAE, MAPE, and RMSE were 61.532 MW, 1.841%, and 84.486 MW, respectively, for dataset I. The MAE, MAPE, and RMSE were 68.906 MW, 0.847%, and 89.209 MW, respectively, for dataset II. A high-temperature oil–paper insulation system offers an opportunity to improve the overloading capability of distribution transformers facing seasonal load variation. A high-temperature electrical insulation system (EIS) was chosen due to thermal calculation based on a typical loading curve on the China Southern Power Grid. In order to evaluate candidate high-temperature insulation systems, Nomex® T910 (aramid-enhanced cellulose) immersed in FR3 (natural ester) was investigated by a dual-temperature thermal aging test compared with a conventional insulation system, Kraft paper impregnated with mineral oil. Throughout the thermal aging test, mechanical, chemical, and dielectric parameters of both paper and insulating oil were investigated in each aging cycle. With the increase in the proportion of photovoltaic and wind power access, the scale and form of distribution networks are becoming more and more complex. The traditional single distribution network vulnerability assessment method is difficult to use to identify the vulnerable links in the distribution network. Therefore, this paper proposes a method for identifying and evaluating vulnerable links in distribution networks based on minimum discriminant information. First, considering the influence of distributed grid connection, an improved probabilistic power flow calculation method is proposed, which improves the calculation efficiency and accuracy. Second, considering the correlation degree, transmission capacity, and voltage stability of branches in the distribution network, the identification index of vulnerable lines is defined. Based on power quality and operating state, the identification index of vulnerable nodes in a distribution network is defined. Finally, based on the indicators of vulnerable nodes and vulnerable lines, the vulnerable links in the distribution network are comprehensively evaluated based on the principle of minimum discriminant information, and the vulnerable links of the entire distribution network are evaluated according to different degrees of vulnerability. This paper reviews renewable energy integration with the electrical power grid through the use of advanced solutions at the device and system level, using smart operation with better utilisation of design margins and power flow optimisation with machine learning. This paper first highlights the significance of credible temperature measurements for devices with advanced power flow management, particularly the use of advanced fibre optic sensing technology. The potential to expand renewable energy generation capacity, particularly of existing wind farms, by exploiting thermal design margins is then explored. Dynamic and adaptive optimal power flow models are subsequently reviewed for optimisation of resource utilisation and minimisation of operational risks. This paper suggests that system-level automation of these processes could improve power capacity exploitation and network stability economically and environmentally. This paper addresses the problem of multi-source survey data sharing in power system engineering by proposing two improved methods: a survey data sharing method combined with differential privacy and a permission change method based on attribute encryption. The survey data sharing method integrated with differential privacy achieves effective cross-professional and cross-departmental data sharing while ensuring data security by introducing multi-discriminator architecture and dynamic noise adjustment. To reduce the computational and communication overhead when user permissions change during survey data sharing, the attribute encryption-based permission change method supports dynamic changes in user permissions. The effectiveness of the proposed methods has been validated through targeted experiments in different scenarios. The installation of electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) increases demand and peak loads, potentially straining existing energy distribution infrastructure. Dispersed and inadequately planned placement of charging points (CPs) can disrupt the electrical grid, surpass contracted demand thresholds, and require infrastructure upgrades, thereby incurring unfeasible costs for Distribution System Operators (DSOs). In this context, it is necessary to recognize the role of business models in enabling effective electrification of the transportation sector. In response to these challenges, this paper introduces a novel e-mobility hub management strategy, tailored for implementation in the Brazilian context. The proposed strategy revolves around a microgrid configuration encompassing dispatchable and photovoltaic generation, a battery energy storage system (BESS), EVSE infrastructure, and local loads. Moreover, this centralized controller facilitates the implementation of dynamic pricing and demand-response mechanisms, integral to business models seeking to integrate EVSE into the distribution grid. To validate the efficacy of the proposed solution, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulations of the microgrid system are conducted. These simulations, incorporating the centralized controller, serve as a tool for assessing system performance and viability before on-site equipment deployment. Medium–long-term photovoltaic (PV) output forecasting is of great significance to power grid planning, power market transactions, power dispatching operations, equipment maintenance and overhaul. However, PV output fluctuates greatly due to weather changes. Furthermore, it is frequently challenging to ensure the accuracy of forecasts for medium–long-term forecasting involving a long time span. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes a medium–long-term forecasting method for PV output based on amplitude-aware permutation entropy component reconstruction and the graph attention network. Firstly, the PV output sequence data are decomposed by ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), and the decomposed intrinsic mode function (IMF) subsequences are combined and reconstructed according to the amplitude-aware permutation entropy. Secondly, the graph node feature sequence is constructed from the reconstructed subsequences, and the mutual information of the node feature sequence is calculated to obtain the graph node adjacency matrix which is applied to generate a graph sequence. Thirdly, the graph attention network is utilized to forecast the graph sequence and separate the PV output forecasting results. Finally, an actual measurement system is used to experimentally verify the proposed method, and the outcomes indicate that the proposed method, which has certain promotion value, can improve the accuracy of medium–long-term forecasting of PV output. Variable renewable energy sources (VRESs) are essential for decarbonizing the energy sector, but they introduce significant uncertainty into power grids. This uncertainty necessitates increased flexibility to ensure reliable and efficient grid operations, impacting both short-term strategies and long-term planning. Effective management of VRESs is particularly challenging for distribution system operators (DSOs) due to limited grid measurement and other data, complicating state estimation. This paper proposes a tractable framework that operates under low-observability conditions. The framework uses conservative linear approximations (CLAs) to manage grid constraints efficiently, requiring only the ranges of power injections typically available to operators. The objectives are twofold: first, to determine the amount and location of flexibility needed to prevent voltage violations and, second, to establish voltage measurement thresholds to trigger flexibility activation. The location of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCSs) is gaining significant importance as part of the conversion to a full-electric vehicle fleet. Positive or negative impacts can be generated mainly based on the quality of service offered to customers and operational efficiency, also potentially involving the electrical grid to which the EVCSs are connected. The EVCS location problem requires an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of geographical, market, urban planning, and operational aspects that can lead to several potential alternatives to be evaluated with respect to a defined number of features. This paper discusses the possible use of a multi-criteria decision-making approach, considering the differences between multi-objective decision making (MODM) and multi-attribute decision-making (MADM), to address the EVCS location problem. The conceptual evaluation leads to the conclusion that the MADM approach is more suitable than MODM for the specific problem. The identification of suitable attributes and related features is then carried out based on a systematic literature review. For each attribute, the relative importance of the features is obtained by considering the occurrence and the dedicated weights. With a substantial fraction of renewable energy integrated into the electrical grid, the new power system urgently requires grid planning scheme displaying adaptability to different energy types and their volatility. Considering the indeterminacy of renewable energy generation output and the different attitudes of decision-makers towards its risk, this paper proposes an adaptability assessment methodology for power grid planning schemes considering multiple decision psychology. First, an evaluation indicator framework is established based on the adaptive requirements of the grid planning for novel power system, and the weights of indicators are calculated based on an improved AHP-CRITIC combination weighting method. Second, improved cumulative prospect theory (ICPT) is adopted to improve to the calculation method of the distance between the evaluation program and the positive and negative ideal programs in the GRA and TOPSIS, which effectively characterize the different decision-making psychologies, and a combination evaluation model is constructed based on a cooperative game (CG), namely, an adaptability evaluation model of grid planning schemes for novel power systems based on GRA-TOPSIS integrating CG and ICPT. Finally, the proposed model serves to evaluate grid planning schemes of three regions in China's 14th Five-Year Plan. The evaluation results show that the adaptability of the schemes varies under different decision-making psychologies, and under the risk-aggressive and loss-sensitive decision-making psychologies, grid planning scheme of Region 1 with the greatest accommodation capacity of renewable energy is preferable. DC voltage is one of the important parameters of active power filters. Since the series hybrid active power filter does not withstand the fundamental voltage, it cannot absorb energy from the power grid, making it too difficult to control its DC voltage. In order to solve the DC voltage control problem, an improved control method for the series hybrid active power filter with magnetic flux compensation is proposed in this paper. In this improved method, the fundamental magnetic flux compensation coefficient is equal to 1, meeting the condition of fundamental magnetic flux compensation. This improved method does not rely on the precise detection and phase-locking of the fundamental voltage at the port of the series transformer. A phase-fixed active current component is generated directly by the inverter, enabling the active power filter (APF) to absorb active power from the power grid. Consequently, the active power absorbed by the APF from the power grid has a linear relationship with the active current component. To address the issue of high auxiliary service costs caused by the grid connection of new energy generation, a dual layer optimization scheduling method for high penetration new energy power grids is proposed, taking into account the auxiliary service costs of grid connection. The correlation between the output fluctuations and load fluctuations of new energy generation is analyzed, and a calculation model for auxiliary service costs caused by grid connection of new energy generation is established. Taking into account the timescale division requirements for grid energy trading and auxiliary service market transactions, a new high penetration energy grid two-level optimization scheduling model is established. The upper level scheduling model aims to minimize the sum of grid energy procurement costs and auxiliary service costs caused by new energy generation and completes the optimization scheduling of the grid for several hours. The lower level scheduling model aims to closely follow the upper level scheduling plan for new energy power plants/groups. Optimization and scheduling of the power grid for tens of minutes is completed, taking into account the balanced allocation of wind and solar losses among various power plants within the new energy power plant group. The large integration of inverter-based resources will significantly alter grid dynamics, leading to pronounced stability challenges due to fundamental disparities between inverter-based and traditional energy systems. While grid-following inverters (GFLIs) dominate current inverter configurations, their increased penetration into the grid can result in major stability issues. In contrast, grid-forming inverters (GFMIs) excel over GFLIs by offering features like standalone operation, frequency support, and adaptability in weak grid scenarios. GFMIs, unlike GFLIs, control the AC voltage and frequency at the common coupling point, impacting the inverter dynamic response to grid disturbances and overall stability. Despite the existing literature highlighting differences between GFLIs and GFMIs and their control strategies, a comprehensive review of GFMIs' stability and the effects of their control schemes on grid stability is lacking. This paper provides an in-depth evaluation of GFMIs' stability, considering various control schemes and their dynamics. It also explores different types of power system stability, introduces new stability concepts that correspond to power grids with integrated inverters, i.e., resonance and converter-driven stability, and reviews small-signal and transient stability analyses, which are the main two types of GFMI stability studied in the literature. This paper presents a groundbreaking control strategy for a bidirectional battery charger that allows power to be injected into the smart grid while simultaneously compensating for the grid's reactive power using an electric vehicle battery. An artificial neural network (ANN) controller is utilized for precise design to ensure optimal performance with minimal error. The ANN technique is applied to generate sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) for a bidirectional AC–DC inverter, with the entire algorithm simulated in MATLAB Simulink.The core innovation of this study is the creation of the ANN algorithm, which supports grid compensation using electric vehicle batteries, an approach termed "vehicle-for-grid". The worldwide appeal has increased for the development of new technologies that allow the use of green energy. In this category, photovoltaic energy (PV) stands out, especially with regard to the presentation of forecasting methods of solar irradiance or solar power from photovoltaic generators. The development of battery energy storage systems (BESSs) has been investigated to overcome difficulties in electric grid operation, such as using energy in the peaks of load or economic dispatch. These technologies are often applied in the sense that solar irradiance is used to charge the battery. We present a review of solar forecasting methods used together with a PV-BESS. Despite the hundreds of papers investigating solar irradiation forecasting, only a few present discussions on its use on the PV-BESS set. Therefore, we evaluated 49 papers from scientific databases published over the last six years. We performed a quantitative analysis and reported important aspects found in the papers, such as the error metrics addressed, granularity, and where the data are obtained from. We also describe applications of the BESS, present a critical analysis of the current perspectives, and point out promising future research directions on forecasting approaches in conjunction with PV-BESS. The DC distribution network is a low-inertia system, which is very sensitive to load disturbance, system failure, and other factors. By adding virtual capacitance to the converter connected to the power supply, the virtual inertia of the DC power grid can be improved. Firstly, this paper proposes a strategy for adjusting virtual capacitance based on the voltage change rate to achieve adaptive control of virtual inertia, which enables the converter to quickly absorb or release energy during power fluctuations. Secondly, the adaptivity of the strategy is improved and the main control parameters in the proposed control method are qualitatively analyzed. Finally, the four-terminal photovoltaic storage DC distribution network system is constructed. Through Simulink, the adaptive virtual inertia control is incorporated on the battery side to simulate and validate the effectiveness of the strategy and the rationality of parameter analysis. The work in this paper is applied to the Zhangbei Power grid. In the flexible direct current (DC) power system, the fault current rises extremely fast when a DC fault occurs. The requirements for the peak of breaking current and fault energy absorption of DC circuit breakers (DCCBs) increase linearly, which significantly increases the cost of the equipment. Therefore, in order to reduce the design difficulty of DCCBs, this paper proposes a strategy to control energy after the fault occurs. Firstly, the energy dimension is added on the basis of the traditional vector control of MMC, which constitutes a three-dimensional energy direct control. Subsequently, the architectures of energy fluctuation control and feedforward control are proposed. The influencing mechanisms for the peak fault current, peak fault voltage and energy dissipation are analyzed. Finally, the simulation of energy fluctuation control and feedforward control is constructed on PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results show that the energy fluctuation control is obviously better than the conventional three-dimensional energy control, and the feedforward energy control is further improved on this basis. Compared with the conventional vector control, the peak energy is reduced by 45.43% and the peak current is reduced by 25.39%, which helps to simplify the equipment design and reduce the equipment cost. However, current error and serious harmonic distortion in the inverter-side and grid-side currents are generated, which will cause additional losses and reduce the power quality of the grid, so it is important to compensate for the current error caused by the overlap time. In this paper, the relationship between the nonlinear current errors caused by the overlap time and the AC-side voltage is analyzed. Then, the mathematical expression of the low-order harmonics with losses caused by the overlap time is derived. On this basis, a current error compensation method with a discrete filter of AC-side voltage is proposed. Finally, a simulation and experiment are carried out to verify the correctness and effectiveness of the theoretical analysis and compensation scheme presented in this paper. Hydro-pneumatic energy storage is a form of compressed-air energy storage that can provide the long-duration storage required for integrating intermittent renewable energies into electrical power grids. This paper presents results based on numerical modelling and laboratory tests for a kilowatt-scale HPES system tested at the University of Malta. This paper presents measurements of the discharge cycle, in which energy stored in compressed air within a pressure vessel is hydro-pneumatically converted back into electricity via a Pelton turbine and fed into the national electricity grid. The tests were conducted using a hydraulic turbine operated under different fixed-turbine rotational speed settings, with the pressure being allowed to decrease gradually during the HPES system's discharge cycle. The system's overall efficiency accounted for flow losses, turbine inefficiencies, and electrical losses. The tests showed that this efficiency was practically independent of the compressed-air pressure of specific water turbine runner speeds, despite the water turbine operating at fixed speeds. A numerical model developed in MATLAB Simulink (R2022a) was also presented for use simulating the hydraulic performance of the system during the discharge cycle. The model used secondary loss coefficients for the hydraulic circuit and derived velocity coefficients from computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the Pelton turbine nozzle. Global warming, pollution, and increasing energy demand have compelled electrification of the transport sector. Electric vehicles are not only an attractive and cleaner mode of transport, but they also possess the capacity to offer flexible storage alternative based on bidirectional vehicle-to-grid schemes. Vehicle-to-grid or V2G technology permits electric vehicles' batteries to store energy and discharge it back to the power grid during peak-load periods. However, the feasibility and economic viability of V2G is still a matter of concern and needs investigation. In this paper, the authors delved into the feasibility of V2G technology by analysing the real time-charging data of a V2G demonstration project named EV-elocity, located at the University of Nottingham campus in the UK. The authors analysed the charging data and trip-status data of two charging sites and put forward some insights regarding the feasibility of V2G and the behavioural traits of the vehicles. Furan tests provide a non-intrusive and cost-effective method of estimating the degradation of paper insulation, which is critical for ensuring the reliability of power grids. However, conducting routine furan tests can be expensive and challenging, highlighting the need for alternative methods, such as machine learning algorithms, to predict furan concentrations. To establish the generalizability and robustness of the furan prediction model, this study investigates two distinct datasets from different geographical locations, Utility A and Utility B. Three scenarios are proposed: in the first scenario, a round-robin cross-validation method was used, with 75% of the data for training and the remaining 25% for testing. The second scenario involved training the model entirely on Utility A and testing it on Utility B. In the third scenario, the datasets were merged, and round-robin cross-validation was applied, similar to the first scenario. The findings reveal the effectiveness of machine learning algorithms in predicting furan concentrations, and particularly the stacked generalized ensemble method, offering a non-intrusive and cost-effective alternative to traditional testing methods. With the update of the power transaction mode and the access of increasing electric vehicles with high randomness to the power grid, the existing carbon emission flow calculation method cannot consider the influence of carbon emission due to the fluctuation in electric vehicle charging and various transaction modes. Given the above shortcomings, this paper proposes an improved carbon emission flow model considering electric vehicle charging fluctuations and hybrid power transactions. The model first considers different transaction modes, allocates the network loss to both sides of power generation, and forms a lossless network, realizing the decoupling of the bilateral transaction mode, pool transaction mode, and network loss and then calculating the day-ahead network's carbon emission. Then, the changes in different transaction modes caused by the fluctuation in electric vehicle charging under different transaction modes are analyzed and the nodes of 'spontaneous change' are found to form a day-ahead intra-day deviation network and calculate its carbon emission flow. Finally, the calculation results are combined to obtain an improved power system carbon emission flow considering electric vehicle charging fluctuations and transaction modes. Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in power grids as a common form of energy storage in power stations. The state of charge (SOC) and state of health (SOH) reflect the capacity and lifetime variation in the Li-ion batteries, and they are important state parameters of Li-ion batteries. Therefore, the establishment of accurate SOC and SOH prediction models is an essential prerequisite for the correct assessment of the status of lithium batteries, the improvement of the operational accuracy of energy-storage stations, and the development of maintenance plans for energy-storage stations. This paper first analyzes the correlation between SOC and SOH, and then proposes a joint SOC and SOH prediction model using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize the extreme gradient boosting algorithm (XGBoost), which takes into account the dynamic correlation between SOC and SOH dynamics, thus enabling more accurate SOC and SOH prediction. Finally, the prediction model is validated using the Oxford battery aging dataset. The correlation between SOC and SOH is verified by comparing the joint prediction results with the SOC individual prediction results. Then, the prediction results of the PSO-XGBoost model, the traditional XGBoost model, and the long short-term memory neural network are compared to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the PSO-XGBoost model. Achieving clean energy goals will require significant advances in regard to addressing the computational needs for next-generation renewable-dominated power grids. One critical obstacle that lies in the way of transitioning today's power grid to a renewable-dominated power grid is the lack of a faster-than-real-time stability assessment technology for operating a fast-changing power grid. This paper proposes an artificial intelligence (AI) -based method that predicts the system's stability margin information (e.g., the frequency nadir in the frequency stability assessment and the critical clearing time (CCT) value in the transient stability assessment) directly from the system operating conditions without performing the conventional time-consuming time-domain simulations over detailed dynamic models. Since the AI method shifts the majority of the computational burden to offline training, the online evaluation is extremely fast. This paper has tested the AI-based stability assessment method using multiple dispatch cases that are converted and tuned from actual dispatch cases of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) system model with more than 20,000 buses. The results show that the AI-based method could accurately predict the stability margin of such a large power system in less than 0.2 milliseconds using the offline-trained AI agent. Therefore, the proposed method has great potential to achieve faster-than-real-time stability assessment for practical large power systems while preserving sufficient accuracy. A safe and stable operation power system is very important for the maintenance of national industrial security and social economy. However, with the increasing complexity of the power grid topology and its operation, new challenges in estimating and evaluating the grid structure performance have received significant attention. Complex network theory transfers the power grid to a network with nodes and links, which helps evaluate the system conveniently with a global view. In this paper, we employ the complex network method to address the cascade failure process and grid structure performance assessment simultaneously. Firstly, a grid cascade failure model based on network topology and power system characteristics is constructed. Then, a set of performance evaluation indicators, including invulnerability, reliability, and vulnerability, is proposed based on the actual functional properties of the grid by renewing the power-weighted degree, medium, and clustering coefficients according to the network cascade failure. Finally, a comprehensive network performance evaluation index, which combines the invulnerability, reliability, and vulnerability indicators with an entropy-based objective weighting method, is put forward in this study. In order to confirm the approach's efficacy, an IEEE-30 bus system is employed for a case study. Numerical results show that the weighted integrated index with a functional network could better evaluate the power grid performance than the unweighted index with a topology network, which demonstrates and validates the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper. Power transformers are still equipment of primary importance within power grids. The recent paradigm changes registered in the field of energy require the interconnection of electrical grids of much larger areas, even up to the level of an entire continent. In this context, knowing the state of the electrical equipment and that of the power transformers is an essential aspect to ensure safe operation conditions. The present work is related to the vulnerability of the oil–paper insulation systems of power transformers to different aging factors and their quick degradation under certain conditions. In this regard, the study proposed in this paper considers the measurement of DC resistivity on mineral oil samples contaminated with small amounts of accelerated aging oil under the action of high-strength electric field and partial discharges. In the absence of standardized procedures for accelerated electrical aging of mineral oil, an original method presented and discussed in previous articles is used. The obtained results clearly indicate that under the action of electrical stress, the mineral oil resistivity decreases significantly, showing that the oil's electric properties worsen. Fossil energy consumption and environmental protection issues have pushed electric vehicles (EVs) to become one of the alternatives to traditional fossil-fuel vehicles. EV refers to a vehicle that uses electric energy as power and is driven by an electric motor. The electric energy of EVs is stored in batteries. When the EV is not traveling, the battery can provide power for other loads. Therefore, with the increase in the number of EVs and the load of the power grid, the EV-to-grid (V2G) mode, which uses EVs to supply power to the power grid, has gradually entered the field of vision of researchers. The paper aims to analyze the factors affecting the parameters of surge protection devices with a spark gap and assess the impact of changing these parameters on the level of overhead line strength. For this purpose, this paper contains the results of tests that show the assessment of the impact of changing the spark gap parameters on the voltage–time characteristics of selected protection devices in the range of negative and positive polarity. The paper presents how the change in the parameters of the component element of the surge protection device, which is the spark gap, may affect the selection of the line surge protection method. In addition, the paper presents a method of assessing the strength of an overhead line, taking into account the case of installing surge protection devices at the insulators. Electrical power grids are changing with a focus on ensuring energy sustainability and enhanced power quality for all sectors. Over the last few decades, there has been a change from a centralized to a decentralized paradigm, which is the consequence of a large-scale incorporation of new electrical technologies and resultant equipment. Considering the foreseeable continuation of changes in electrical power grids, a direction rooted in power electronics with a focus on hybrid AC/DC grids, including the support of solid-state transformers and unified systems, is presented in this paper. Converging on hybrid AC/DC grids, DC grids (structured as unipolar and bipolar) and coupled and decoupled AC configurations are analyzed. On the other hand, in the context of solid-state transformers, feasible structures are analyzed, including the establishment of hybrid AC/DC grids, and the assessment of gains for boosting power quality is presented. Unified power electronics systems are also of fundamental importance when contextualized within the framework of future power grids, presenting higher efficiency, lower power stages, and the possibility of multiple operations to support the main AC grid. The paper presents an adaptation of the microinverter platform from Texas Instruments to incorporate a battery energy storage system (BESS) alongside the development of the BESS system itself. Initially designed for unidirectional power flow between PV panels and an electric grid, the platform required modifications to accommodate bidirectional energy transfer for BESS integration. These modifications encompass software adjustments and hardware enhancements, which are all detailed within the paper. The electrical configuration includes selecting and deploying components such as DCDC power converters, microcontrollers, measured signals, and actuating signals to facilitate battery connection to the platform's DC bus. Coastal cities often face typhoons and urban water logs, which can cause power outages and significant economic losses. Therefore, it is necessary to study the impact of these disasters on urban distribution networks and improve their flexibility. This paper presents a method for predicting power-grid failure rates in typhoons and water logs and suggests a strategy for improving network elasticity after the disaster. It is crucial for the operation and maintenance of power distribution systems during typhoon and water-logging disasters. By mapping the wind speed and water depth at the corresponding positions in the evolution of wind and water logging disasters to the vulnerability curve, the failure probability of the corresponding nodes is obtained, the fault scenario is generated randomly, and the proposed dynamic reconstruction method, which can react in real-time to the damage the distribution system received, has been tested on a modified 33-node and a 118-node distribution network, with 3 and 11 distribution generators loaded, respectively. The results proved that this method can effectively improve the resiliency of the distribution network after a disaster compared with the traditional static reconstruction method, especially in the case of long-lasting wind and flood disasters that have complex and significant impacts on the distribution system, with about 26% load supply for the 33-node system and nearly 95% for the 118-node system. The aim of this paper is to report on the state of the art of the literature on the most recent challenges in the energy domain that can be addressed through the use of quantum computing technology. More in detail, to the best of the authors' knowledge, the scope of the literature review considered in this paper is specifically limited to forecasting, grid management (namely, scheduling, dispatching, stability, and reliability), battery production, solar cell production, green hydrogen and ammonia production, and carbon capture. These challenges have been identified as the most relevant business needs currently expressed by energy companies on their path towards a net-zero economy. A critical discussion of the most relevant methodological approaches and experimental setups is provided, together with an overview of future research directions. Overall, the key finding of the paper, based on the proposed literature review, is twofold: namely, (1) quantum computing has the potential to trigger significant transformation in the energy domain by drastically reducing CO2 emissions, especially those relative to battery production, solar cell production, green hydrogen and ammonia production, as well as point-source and direct-air carbon capture technology; and (2) quantum computing offers enhanced optimization capability relative to relevant challenges that concern forecasting solar and wind resources, as well as managing power demand, facility allocation, and ensuring reliability and stability in power grids. Photovoltaic power generation prediction constitutes a significant research area within the realm of power system artificial intelligence. Accurate prediction of future photovoltaic output is imperative for the optimal dispatchment and secure operation of the power grid. This study introduces a photovoltaic prediction model, termed ICEEMDAN-Bagging-XGBoost, aimed at enhancing the accuracy of photovoltaic power generation predictions. In this paper, the original photovoltaic power data initially undergo decomposition utilizing the Improved Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (ICEEMDAN) algorithm, with each intrinsic mode function (IMF) derived from this decomposition subsequently reconstructed into high-frequency, medium-frequency, and low-frequency components. Targeting the high-frequency and medium-frequency components of photovoltaic power, a limiting gradient boosting tree (XGBoost) is employed as the foundational learner in the Bagging parallel ensemble learning method, with the incorporation of a sparrow search algorithm (SSA) to refine the hyperparameters of XGBoost, thereby facilitating more nuanced tracking of the changes in the photovoltaic power's high-frequency and medium-frequency components. Regarding the low-frequency components, XGBoost-Linear is utilized to enable rapid and precise prediction. In contrast with the conventional superposition reconstruction approach, this study employs XGBoost for the reconstruction of the prediction output's high-frequency, intermediate-frequency, and low-frequency components. Ultimately, the efficacy of the proposed methodology is substantiated by the empirical operation data from a photovoltaic power station in Hebei Province, China. To enhance the reliability of traditional current protection systems in the evolving landscape of future power grids, this paper proposes a differential protection data synchronization approach that leverages satellite and 5G network timing. This method addresses the risk of inadvertent operation due to 5G communication jitter. It employs the BeiDou satellite system for synchronizing the timing of 5G base stations and terminals. This synchronization extends to the 5G terminal and the protection device, thereby mitigating time deviations caused by air interface delays and reducing the 5G network's end-to-end delay by approximately 4 ms on average. A simulation was conducted to assess the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed method under normal satellite signal conditions. The results indicated a significant improvement in protection accuracy, with the method reducing the protection activation time by approximately 5–7 ms compared to the 5G timing data synchronization method. Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) with integrated battery energy storage systems (BESSs) are becoming crucial for modern power grids. This paper investigates the modeling and control of a grid-connected MMC-BESS, with a specific emphasis on state-of-charge (SoC) balancing. Compared to conventional hard arm SoC balancing control (HASBC), this paper proposes an alternative soft arm SoC balancing control (SASBC). The simulation results and analysis indicate the following: 1. SASBC provides superior performance in achieving SoC balance both between and within the arms, as compared to HASBC. 2. The MMC-BESS power fluctuates between phases, arms, and individual submodules to balance the SoC of batteries. After the accomplishment of SoC equalization, the power is equally distributed, and the circulating current is well eliminated. 3. MMC-BESS can operate in both the charging and discharging modes, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the output current is reduced from 6.80% to 1.13% after SoC balancing is achieved. 4. A large proportion of photovoltaic (PV) power generation is connected to the power grid, and its volatility and stochasticity have significant impacts on the power system. Accurate PV power forecasting is of great significance in optimizing the safe operation of the power grid and power market transactions. In this paper, a novel dual-channel PV power forecasting method based on a temporal convolutional network (TCN) is proposed. The method deeply integrates the PV station feature data with the model computing mechanism through the dual-channel model architecture; utilizes the combination of multihead attention (MHA) and TCN to extract the multidimensional spatio-temporal features between other meteorological variables and the PV power; and utilizes a single TCN to fully extract the temporal constraints of the power sequence elements. The weighted fusion of the dual-channel feature data ultimately yields the ideal forecasting results. The experimental data in this study are from a 26.52 kW PV power plant in central Australia. The experiments were carried out over seven different input window widths, and the two models that currently show superior performance within the field of PV power forecasting: the convolutional neural network (CNN), and the convolutional neural network combined with a long and short-term memory network (CNN_LSTM), are used as the baseline models. The experimental results show that the proposed model and the baseline models both obtained the best forecasting performance over a 1-day input window width, while the proposed model exhibited superior forecasting performance compared to the baseline model. It also shows that designing model architectures that deeply integrate the data input method with the model mechanism has research potential in the field of PV power forecasting. Electric vehicles (EVs) play a crucial role in the global transition towards decarbonization and renewable energy resources (RERs). As EVs gain popularity, this has resulted in various challenges for the power grid, such as an intensified peak-to-valley load differential, causing transformer overloading. Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology has emerged as a promising solution due to its controllable charging and discharging capabilities. Mature business schemes can incentivize the development of V2G technology. However, the business schemes of V2G technology are still unclear. Therefore, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the business schemes associated with V2G technology, especially focusing on its feasibility and challenges with respect to the electricity market. In this paper, several business schemes with respect to the electricity market are explored by conducting extensive literature reviews, including peak-to-valley arbitrage, the spot market, demand–response (DR), frequency regulation, voltage regulation, spinning reserve, and black start. Next, application scenarios and real-world use cases of the V2G technology's business schemes are investigated. Furthermore, the challenges faced by the V2G technology's business schemes are assessed by considering the technical, economical, and social aspects. By identifying these challenges, it is important to highlight the existing shortcomings and areas of interest for V2G technology's research and development.
