With the continuous advancement of sensing technology, applying large amounts of sensor data to practical prediction processes using artificial intelligence methods has become a developmental direction. In sensing images and remote sensing meteorological data, the dynamic changes in the prediction targets relative to their background information often exhibit more significant dynamic characteristics. Previous prediction methods did not specifically analyze and study the dynamic change information of prediction targets at spatiotemporal multi-scale. Therefore, this paper proposes a neural prediction network based on perceptual multi-scale spatiotemporal dynamic changes (PMSTD-Net). By designing Multi-Scale Space Motion Change Attention Unit (MCAU) to perceive the local situation and spatial displacement dynamic features of prediction targets at different scales, attention is ensured on capturing the dynamic information in their spatial dimensions adequately. On this basis, this paper proposes Multi-Scale Spatiotemporal Evolution Attention (MSEA) unit, which further integrates the spatial change features perceived by MCAU units in higher channel dimensions, and learns the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics at different scales, effectively predicting the dynamic characteristics and regularities of targets in sensor information.Through experiments on spatiotemporal prediction standard datasets such as Moving MNIST, video prediction dataset KTH, and Human3.6m, PMSTD-Net demonstrates prediction performance surpassing previous methods. We construct the GPM satellite remote sensing precipitation dataset, demonstrating the network's advantages in perceiving multi-scale spatiotemporal dynamic changes in remote sensing meteorological data. The traditional method for retrieving cloud optical thickness (COT) is carried out through a Look-Up Table (LUT). Researchers must make a series of idealized assumptions and conduct extensive observations and record features in this scenario, consuming considerable resources. The emergence of deep learning effectively addresses the shortcomings of the traditional approach. In this paper, we first propose a daytime (SOZA < 70°) COT retrieval algorithm based on FY-4A AGRI. We establish and train a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model for COT retrieval, CM4CR, with the CALIPSO's COT product spatially and temporally synchronized as the ground truth. Then, a deep learning method extended from video prediction models is adopted to predict COT values based on the retrieval results obtained from CM4CR. The COT prediction model (CPM) consists of an encoder, a predictor, and a decoder. On this basis, we further incorporated a time embedding module to enhance the model's ability to learn from irregular time intervals in the input COT sequence. During the training phase, we employed Charbonnier Loss and Edge Loss to enhance the model's capability to represent COT details. Experiments indicate that our CM4CR outperforms existing COT retrieval methods, with predictions showing better performance across several metrics than other benchmark prediction models. Nowadays, accurate and efficient short-term traffic flow forecasting plays a critical role in intelligent transportation systems (ITS). However, due to the fact that traffic flow is susceptible to factors such as weather and road conditions, traffic flow data tend to exhibit dynamic uncertainty and nonlinearity, making the construction of a robust and reliable forecasting model still a challenging task. Aiming at this nonlinear and complex traffic flow forecasting problem, this paper constructs a short-term traffic flow forecasting hybrid optimization model, SSA-ELM, based on extreme learning machine by embedding the sparrow search algorithm in order to solve the above problem. Extreme learning machine has been widely used in short-term traffic flow forecasting due to its characteristics such as low computational complexity and fast learning speed. By using the sparrow search algorithm to optimize the input weight values and hidden layer deviations in the extreme learning machine, the sparrow search algorithm is utilized to search for the global optimal solution while taking into account the original characteristics of the extreme learning machine, so that the model improves stability while increasing prediction accuracy. Experimental results on the Amsterdam A10 road traffic flow dataset show that the traffic flow forecasting model proposed in this paper has higher forecasting accuracy and stability, revealing the potential of hybrid optimization models in the field of short-term traffic flow forecasting. In today's world, a significant amount of global energy is used in buildings. Unfortunately, a lot of this energy is wasted, because electrical appliances are not used properly or efficiently. One way to reduce this waste is by detecting, learning, and predicting when people are present in buildings. To do this, buildings need to become "smart" and "cognitive" and use modern technologies to sense when and how people are occupying the buildings. By leveraging this information, buildings can make smart decisions based on recently developed methods. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive overview of recent advancements in Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that have been designed and used for the monitoring of indoor environmental conditions within buildings. Using these technologies is crucial to gathering data about the indoor environment and determining the number and presence of occupants. Furthermore, this paper critically examines both the strengths and limitations of each technology in predicting occupant behavior. In addition, it explores different methods for processing these data and making future occupancy predictions. Moreover, we highlight some challenges, such as determining the optimal number and location of sensors and radars, and provide a detailed explanation and insights into these challenges. Furthermore, the paper explores possible future directions, including the security of occupants' data and the promotion of energy-efficient practices such as localizing occupants and monitoring their activities within a building. The operational stability of a power transformer exerts an extremely important impact on the power symmetry, balance, and security of power systems. When the grid load fluctuates greatly, if the load factor of the transformer cannot be maintained within a reasonable range, it leads to increased instability in grid operation. Adjusting the transformer capacity based on load changes is of great significance. The existing control methods for on-load capacity-regulating (OLCR) transformers have low timeliness, and the daily switching frequency of the capacity-regulating switch is not controlled. To ensure the safe and stable operation of transformers, this paper proposes a control method for OLCR transformers based on load prediction and fuzzy control. Firstly, the operating principle of OLCR transformers is analyzed, and a multi-strategy enhanced dung beetle optimizer (MSDBO) combined with a CNN−LSTM model is proposed for load forecasting. On this basis, the daily switching frequency of the capacity-regulating transformer is introduced, and hesitant fuzzy control is used to select the optimal capacity-regulating strategy relying on three factors: loss, economy, and switching frequency. Finally, simulation models are constructed using the MATLAB/SIMULINK platform and simulation analysis is conducted to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control method. For the three scenarios in this paper, the method reduces daily power loss by 28.5% to 56.3% and daily operating costs by 25.4% to 50.8%. The method used in this paper can sacrifice 3.5% to 9.2% of the loss reduction capability in exchange for reducing the number of switch operations by 28.6% to 57.1%, significantly extending the lifespan of the switches and thereby increasing the operational lifespan of the transformer. The issues of the evaluation and prediction of the reliability and testability of mining machinery and equipment are becoming particularly relevant, since the safety of technological processes and human life is reaching a new level of realisation due to changes in mining technology. The work is devoted to the development of a logical model for analysing the controllability of mining equipment. The paper presents a model of reliability of the operation of mining equipment on the example of a mine load and passenger hoist. This generalised model is made in the form of a graph of transitions and supplemented with a system of equations. The model allows for the estimation of the reliability of equipment elements and equipment as a whole. A mathematical and logical model for the calculation of the availability and downtime coefficients of various designs of mining equipment systems is proposed. This model became the basis for the methods to calculate the optimal values of diagnostic depth. At these calculated values, the maximum value of availability factor will be obtained. In this paper, an analytical study was carried out and dependences of the readiness factor of parameters of the investigated system such as the intensity of control of technical systems, intensity of failures, etc., were constructed. As the demand for electricity, electrification, and renewable energy rises, accurate forecasting and flexible energy management become imperative. Distribution network operators face capacity limits set by regional grids, risking economic penalties if exceeded. This study examined data-driven approaches of load forecasting to address these challenges on a city scale through a use case study of Eskilstuna, Sweden. Multiple Linear Regression was used to model electric load data, identifying key calendar and meteorological variables through a rolling origin validation process, using three years of historical data. Despite its low cost, Multiple Linear Regression outperforms the more expensive non-linear Light Gradient Boosting Machine, and both outperform the "weekly Naïve" benchmark with a relative Root Mean Square Errors of 32–34% and 39–40%, respectively. Best-practice hyperparameter settings were derived, and they emphasize frequent re-training, maximizing the training data size, and setting a lag size larger than or equal to the forecast horizon for improved accuracy. Combining both models into an ensemble could the enhance accuracy. This paper demonstrates that robust load forecasts can be achieved by leveraging domain knowledge and statistical analysis, utilizing readily available machine learning libraries. Most of the deep-learning algorithms on stock price volatility prediction in the existing literature use data such as same-frequency market indicators or technical indicators, and less consider mixed-frequency data, such as macro-data. Compared with the traditional model that only inputs the same-frequency data such as technical indicators and market indicators, this study proposes an improved deep-learning model based on mixed-frequency big data. This paper first introduces the reserve restricted mixed-frequency data sampling (RR-MIDAS) model to deal with the mixed-frequency data and, secondly, extracts the temporal and spatial features of volatility series by using the parallel model of CNN-LSTM and LSTM, and finally utilizes the Optuna framework for hyper-parameter optimization to achieve volatility prediction. For the deep-learning model with mixed-frequency data, its RMSE, MAE, MSLE, MAPE, SMAPE, and QLIKE are reduced by 18.25%, 14.91%, 30.00%, 12.85%, 13.74%, and 23.42%, respectively. The layout and configuration of urban infrastructure are essential for the orderly operation and healthy development of cities. With the promotion and popularization of new energy vehicles, the modeling and prediction of charging pile usage and allocation have garnered significant attention from governments and enterprises. Short-term demand forecasting for charging piles is crucial for their efficient operation. However, existing prediction models lack a discussion on the appropriate time window, resulting in limitations in station-level predictions. Recognizing the temporal nature of charging pile occupancy, this paper proposes a novel stacked-LSTM model called attention-SLSTM that integrates an attention mechanism to predict the charging demand of electric vehicles at the station level over the next few hours. To evaluate its performance, this paper compares it with several methods. The experimental results demonstrate that the attention-SLSTM model outperforms both LSTM and stacked-LSTM models. Deep learning methods generally outperform traditional time series forecasting methods. In the test set, MAE is 1.6860, RMSE is 2.5040, and MAPE is 9.7680%. Compared to the stacked-LSTM model, MAE and RMSE are reduced by 4.7%and 5%, respectively; while MAPE value decreases by 1.3%, making it superior to LSTM overall. Furthermore, subsequent experiments compare prediction performance among different charging stations, which confirms that the attention-SLSTM model exhibits excellent predictive capabilities within a six-step (2 h) window. Underwater acoustic (UWA) channel prediction technology, as an important topic in UWA communication, has played an important role in UWA adaptive communication network and underwater target perception. Although many significant advancements have been achieved in underwater acoustic channel prediction over the years, a comprehensive summary and introduction is still lacking. As the first comprehensive overview of UWA channel prediction, this paper introduces past works and algorithm implementation methods of channel prediction from the perspective of linear, kernel-based, and deep learning approaches. Importantly, based on available at-sea experiment datasets, this paper compares the performance of current primary UWA channel prediction algorithms under a unified system framework, providing researchers with a comprehensive and objective understanding of UWA channel prediction. Finally, it discusses the directions and challenges for future research. The survey finds that linear prediction algorithms are the most widely applied, and deep learning, as the most advanced type of algorithm, has moved this field into a new stage. The experimental results show that the linear algorithms have the lowest computational complexity, and when the training samples are sufficient, deep learning algorithms have the best prediction performance. In the dynamic world of cloud computing, auto-scaling stands as a beacon of efficiency, dynamically aligning resources with fluctuating demands. This paper presents a comprehensive review of auto-scaling techniques, highlighting significant advancements and persisting challenges in the field. First, we overview the fundamental principles and mechanisms of auto-scaling, including its role in improving cost efficiency, performance, and energy consumption in cloud services. We then discuss various strategies employed in auto-scaling, ranging from threshold-based rules and queuing theory to sophisticated machine learning and time series analysis approaches. After that, we explore the critical issues in auto-scaling practices and review several studies that demonstrate how these challenges can be addressed. We then conclude by offering insights into several promising research directions, emphasizing the development of predictive scaling mechanisms and the integration of advanced machine learning techniques to achieve more effective and efficient auto-scaling solutions. Artificial neural networks (ANNs) can be used for accurate heat load forecasting in district heating systems (DHSs). This paper presents an application of a shallow ANN with two hidden layers in the case of a local DHS. The developed model was used to write a simple application in Python 3.10 that can be used in the operation of a district heating plant to carry out a preliminary analysis of heat demand, taking into account the ambient temperature on a given day. The model was trained using the real data from the period 2019–2022. The training was sufficient for the number of 150 epochs. The prediction effectiveness indicator was proposed. In the considered case, the effectiveness of the trained network was 85% and was better in comparison to five different regression models. In the scope of energy management systems (EMSs) for microgrids, the forecasting module stands out as an essential element, significantly influencing the efficacy of optimal solution policies. Forecasts for consumption, generation, and market prices play a crucial role in both day-ahead and real-time decision-making processes within EMSs. This paper aims to develop a machine learning-based multivariate forecasting methodology to account for the intricate interplay pertaining to these variables from the perspective of day-ahead energy management. Specifically, our approach delves into the dynamic relationship between load demand variations and electricity price fluctuations within the microgrid EMSs. The investigation involves a comparative analysis and evaluation of recurrent neural networks' performance to recognize the most effective technique for the forecasting module of microgrid EMSs. This study includes approaches based on Long Short-Term Memory Neural Networks (LSTMs), with architectures ranging from Vanilla LSTM, Stacked LSTM, Bi-directional LSTM, and Convolution LSTM to attention-based models. The empirical study involves analyzing real-world time-series data sourced from the Australian Energy Market (AEM), specifically focusing on historical data from the NSW state. The findings indicate that while the Triple-Stacked LSTM demonstrates superior performance for this application, it does not necessarily lead to more optimal operational costs, with forecast inaccuracies potentially causing deviations of up to forty percent from the optimal cost. Medium–long-term photovoltaic (PV) output forecasting is of great significance to power grid planning, power market transactions, power dispatching operations, equipment maintenance and overhaul. However, PV output fluctuates greatly due to weather changes. Furthermore, it is frequently challenging to ensure the accuracy of forecasts for medium–long-term forecasting involving a long time span. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes a medium–long-term forecasting method for PV output based on amplitude-aware permutation entropy component reconstruction and the graph attention network. Firstly, the PV output sequence data are decomposed by ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD), and the decomposed intrinsic mode function (IMF) subsequences are combined and reconstructed according to the amplitude-aware permutation entropy. Secondly, the graph node feature sequence is constructed from the reconstructed subsequences, and the mutual information of the node feature sequence is calculated to obtain the graph node adjacency matrix which is applied to generate a graph sequence. Thirdly, the graph attention network is utilized to forecast the graph sequence and separate the PV output forecasting results. Finally, an actual measurement system is used to experimentally verify the proposed method, and the outcomes indicate that the proposed method, which has certain promotion value, can improve the accuracy of medium–long-term forecasting of PV output. Photovoltaic (PV) microgrids comprise a multitude of small PV power stations distributed across a specific geographical area in a decentralized manner. Computational services for forecasting the output power of power stations are crucial for optimizing resource deployment. This paper proposes a deep-learning-based architecture for short-term prediction of PV power. Firstly, in order to make full use of the spatial information between different power stations, a spatio–temporal feature fusion method is proposed. This method is capable of exploiting both the power information of neighboring power stations with strong correlations and meteorological information with the PV feature data of the target power station. By using a multiscale convolutional neural network–long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM) network model, it is capable of generating a PV feature dataset containing spatio–temporal attributes that expand the data source and enhance the feature constraints. It is capable of predicting the output power sequences of power stations in PV microgrids with high model generalization and responsiveness. This paper proposes a kind of discrete-time sliding-mode predictive control (SMPC) based on a nonlinear sliding function for permanent-magnet synchronous motors' (PMSMs') speed control to improve the convergence performance. Compared with traditional sliding-mode predictive control based on a linear sliding function, the proposed SMPC has a faster convergence rate thanks to the design of a nonlinear fast terminal sliding function. Moreover, one-step prediction is employed, which greatly simplifies the algorithm and improves the real-time performance of its operation. The sliding state will follow the expected trajectory of a predefined sliding-mode reaching law. The stability and convergence performance of the proposed method is analyzed. Accurate and reliable medium- and long-term load forecasting is crucial for the rational planning and operation of power systems. However, existing methods often struggle to accurately extract and capture long-term dependencies in load data, leading to poor predictive accuracy. Therefore, this paper proposes a medium- and long-term residential load forecasting method based on FEDformer, aiming to capture long-term temporal dependencies of load data in the frequency domain while considering factors such as electricity prices and temperature, ultimately improving the accuracy of medium- and long-term load forecasting. The proposed model employs Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) for frequency domain transformation of time-series data to address the Gibbs phenomenon caused by the use of Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) in FEDformer. Additionally, causal convolution and attention mechanisms are applied in the frequency domain to enhance the model's capability to capture long-term dependencies. The model is evaluated using real-world load data from power systems, and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model effectively learns the temporal and nonlinear characteristics of load data. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent form of arrhythmia, with a rising incidence and prevalence worldwide, posing significant implications for public health. In this paper, we introduce an approach that combines the Recurrence Plot (RP) technique and the ResNet architecture to predict AF. Our method involves three main steps: using wavelet filtering to remove noise interference; generating RPs through phase space reconstruction; and employing a multi-level chained residual network for AF prediction. To validate our approach, we established a comprehensive database consisting of electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings from 1008 AF patients and 48,292 Non-AF patients, with a total of 2067 and 93,129 ECGs, respectively. The experimental results demonstrated high levels of prediction precision (90.5%), recall (89.1%), F1 score (89.8%), accuracy (93.4%), and AUC (96%) on our dataset. Moreover, when tested on a publicly available AF dataset (AFPDB), our method achieved even higher prediction precision (94.8%), recall (99.4%), F1 score (97.0%), accuracy (97.0%), and AUC (99.7%). This paper proposes a new post-processing method for model data in order to improve typhoon track and rainfall forecasts. The model data used in the article include low-resolution ensemble forecasts and high-resolution forecasts. The entire improvement method contains the following three steps. The first step is to correct the typhoon track forecast: three ensemble member optimization methods are applied to the low-resolution ensemble forecasts, and then the best optimization method is selected with the principle of the smallest average distance error. The results of rainfall forecasts show that the corrected rainfall forecast performs better than the original forecasts. The second step is to derive the high-resolution probability rainfall forecast: the neighborhood method is applied to the deterministic high-resolution rainfall forecast. The last step is to correct the typhoon rainfall forecast: the low- and high-resolution forecasts are blended using the probability-matching method with two different schemes. The results show that the forecasts of the two schemes perform better than the original forecast under all rainfall thresholds and all forecast lead times. In terms of bias score, a rain forecast from one scheme corrects the rainfall deviation from observation better for light and moderate rainfall, whereas a rain forecast from another scheme corrects the rainfall deviation better for heavy and torrential rainfall. We propose a novel approach for time series forecasting with many predictors, referred to as the GO-sdPCA, in this paper. The approach employs a variable selection method known as the group orthogonal greedy algorithm and the high-dimensional Akaike information criterion to mitigate the impact of irrelevant predictors. Moreover, a novel technique, called peeling, is used to boost the variable selection procedure so that many factor-relevant predictors can be included in prediction. Finally, the supervised dynamic principal component analysis (sdPCA) method is adopted to account for the dynamic information in factor recovery. In simulation studies, we found that the proposed method adapts well to unknown degrees of sparsity and factor strength, which results in good performance, even when the number of relevant predictors is large compared to the sample size. Applying to economic and environmental studies, the proposed method consistently performs well compared to some commonly used benchmarks in one-step-ahead out-sample forecasts. There is a growing interest in the early prediction of outcomes in ongoing business processes. Predictive process monitoring distills knowledge from the sequence of event data generated and stored during the execution of processes and trains models on this knowledge to predict outcomes of ongoing processes. However, most state-of-the-art methods require the training of complex and inefficient machine learning models and hyper-parameter optimization as well as numerous input data to achieve high performance. In this paper, we present a novel approach based on Hyperdimensional Computing (HDC) for predicting the outcome of ongoing processes before their completion. We highlight its simplicity, efficiency, and high performance while utilizing only a subset of the input data, which helps in achieving a lower memory demand and faster and more effective corrective measures. We evaluate our proposed method on four publicly available datasets with a total of 12 binary prediction tasks. Our proposed method achieves an average 6% higher area under the ROC curve (AUC) and up to a 14% higher F1-score, while yielding a 20× earlier prediction than state-of-the-art conventional machine learning- and neural network-based models. This paper develops an outline for a hierarchically embedded architecture of an artificial agent that models human translation processes based on principles of active inference (AIF) and predictive processing (PP). AIF and PP posit that the mind constructs a model of the environment which guides behavior by continually generating and integrating predictions and sensory input. The proposed model of the translation agent consists of three processing strata: a sensorimotor layer, a cognitive layer, and a phenomenal layer. Each layer consists of a network of states and transitions that interact on different time scales. Following the AIF framework, states are conditioned on observations which may originate from the environment and/or the embedded processing layer, while transitions between states are conditioned on actions that implement plans to optimize goal-oriented behavior. The AIF agent aims at simulating the variation in translational behavior under various conditions and to facilitate investigating the underlying mental mechanisms. Forecasting the generation of solar power plants (SPPs) requires taking into account meteorological parameters that influence the difference between the solar irradiance at the top of the atmosphere calculated with high accuracy and the solar irradiance at the tilted plane of the solar panel on the Earth's surface. One of the key factors is cloudiness, which can be presented not only as a percentage of the sky area covered by clouds but also many additional parameters, such as the type of clouds, the distribution of clouds across atmospheric layers, and their height. The use of machine learning algorithms to forecast the generation of solar power plants requires retrospective data over a long period and formalising the features; however, retrospective data with detailed information about cloudiness are normally recorded in the natural language format. This paper proposes an algorithm for processing such records to convert them into a binary feature vector. Experiments conducted on data from a real solar power plant showed that this algorithm increases the accuracy of short-term solar irradiance forecasts by 5–15%, depending on the quality metric used. At the same time, adding features makes the model less transparent to the user, which is a significant drawback from the point of view of explainable artificial intelligence. Therefore, the paper uses an additive explanation algorithm based on the Shapley vector to interpret the model's output. It is shown that this approach allows the machine learning model to explain why it generates a particular forecast, which will provide a greater level of trust in intelligent information systems in the power industry. The aim of this paper is to report on the state of the art of the literature on the most recent challenges in the energy domain that can be addressed through the use of quantum computing technology. More in detail, to the best of the authors' knowledge, the scope of the literature review considered in this paper is specifically limited to forecasting, grid management (namely, scheduling, dispatching, stability, and reliability), battery production, solar cell production, green hydrogen and ammonia production, and carbon capture. These challenges have been identified as the most relevant business needs currently expressed by energy companies on their path towards a net-zero economy. A critical discussion of the most relevant methodological approaches and experimental setups is provided, together with an overview of future research directions. Overall, the key finding of the paper, based on the proposed literature review, is twofold: namely, (1) quantum computing has the potential to trigger significant transformation in the energy domain by drastically reducing CO2 emissions, especially those relative to battery production, solar cell production, green hydrogen and ammonia production, as well as point-source and direct-air carbon capture technology; and (2) quantum computing offers enhanced optimization capability relative to relevant challenges that concern forecasting solar and wind resources, as well as managing power demand, facility allocation, and ensuring reliability and stability in power grids. In recent years, global attention to carbon emissions has increased, becoming one of the main drivers of global climate change. Accurate prediction of carbon emission trends in small and medium-sized countries and scientific regulation of carbon emissions can provide theoretical support and policy references for the effective and rational use of energy and the promotion of the coordinated development of energy, environment, and economy. This paper establishes a grey prediction model using the classical Logistic mathematical model in a determined environment to investigate the carbon emission system. At the same time, we use the basic principle of fractional-order accumulation to establish a grey prediction model with fractional-order Logistic and obtain the parameter estimation and time-response equation of the new model by solving the model through the theory related to fractional-order operators. The particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to complete the optimization process of the order of the fractional order grey prediction model and obtain the optimal model order. Then, the new model is applied to predict carbon emissions in five medium-emission countries: Ethiopia, Djibouti, Ghana, Belgium, and Austria. The new model shows better advantages in the validity analysis process, and the simulation results indicate that the new model proposed in this paper has stronger stability and better simulation and prediction accuracy than other comparative models, proving the model's validity. Finally, the model is used to forecast the carbon emissions of these five countries for the five years of 2021–2025, and the results are analyzed, and relevant policy recommendations are made. Since financial assets on stock exchanges were created, investors have sought to predict their future values. Currently, cryptocurrencies are also seen as assets. Machine learning is increasingly adopted to assist and automate investments. The main objective of this paper is to make daily predictions about the movement direction of financial time series through classification models, financial time series preprocessing methods, and feature selection with genetic algorithms. The target time series are Bitcoin, Ibovespa, and Vale. The methodology of this paper includes the following steps: collecting time series of financial assets; data preprocessing; feature selection with genetic algorithms; and the training and testing of machine learning models. The results were obtained by evaluating the models with the area under the ROC curve metric. For the best prediction models for Bitcoin, Ibovespa, and Vale, values of 0.61, 0.62, and 0.58 were obtained, respectively. In conclusion, the feature selection allowed the improvement of performance in most models, and the input series in the form of percentage variation obtained a good performance, although it was composed of fewer attributes in relation to the other sets tested. Recently, transfer learning has gained popularity in the machine learning community. Transfer Learning (TL) has emerged as a promising paradigm that leverages knowledge learned from one or more related domains to improve prediction accuracy in a target domain with limited data. However, for time series forecasting (TSF) applications, transfer learning is relatively new. This paper addresses the need for empirical studies as identified in recent reviews advocating the need for practical guidelines for Transfer Learning approaches and method designs for time series forecasting. The main contribution of this paper is the suggestion of a comprehensive framework for Transfer Learning Sensitivity Analysis (SA) for time series forecasting. We achieve this by identifying various parameters seen from various angles of transfer learning applied to time series, aiming to uncover factors and insights that influence the performance of transfer learning in time series forecasting. Undoubtedly, symmetry appears to be a core aspect in the consideration of these factors and insights. A further contribution is the introduction of four TL performance metrics encompassed in our framework. These TL performance metrics provide insight into the extent of the transferability between the source and the target domains. Analyzing whether the benefits of transferred knowledge are equally or unequally accessible and applicable across different domains or tasks speaks to the requirement of symmetry or asymmetry in transfer learning. Moreover, these TL performance metrics inform on the possibility of the occurrence of negative transfers and also provide insight into the possible vulnerability of the network to catastrophic forgetting. Finally, we discuss a sensitivity analysis of an Ensemble TL technique use case (with Multilayer Perceptron models) as a proof of concept to validate the suggested framework. This paper aims to provide discernment toward establishing a general framework, dedicated to data analysis and forecasting in smart buildings. It constitutes an industrial return of experience from an industrialist specializing in IoT supported by the academic world. With the necessary improvement of energy efficiency, discernment is paramount for facility managers to optimize daily operations and prioritize renovation work in the building sector. With the scale of buildings and the complexity of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, the use of artificial intelligence is deemed the cheapest tool, holding the highest potential, even if it requires IoT sensors and a deluge of data to establish genuine models. However, the wide variety of buildings, users, and data hinders the development of industrial solutions, as specific studies often lack relevance to analyze other buildings, possibly with different types of data monitored. The relevance of the modeling can also disappear over time, as buildings are dynamic systems evolving with their use. In this paper, we propose to study the forecasting ability of the widely used Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network algorithm, which is well-designed for time series modeling, across an instrumented building. In this way, we considered the consistency of the performances for several issues as we compared to the cases with no prediction, which is lacking in the literature. The insight provided let us examine the quality of AI models and the quality of data needed in forecasting tasks. Finally, we deduced that efficient models and smart choices about data allow meaningful insight into developing time series modeling frameworks for smart buildings. For reproducibility concerns, we also provide our raw data, which came from one "real" smart building, as well as significant information regarding this building. In summary, our research aims to develop a methodology for exploring, analyzing, and modeling data from the smart buildings sector. Based on our experiment on forecasting temperature sensor measurements, we found that a bigger AI model (1) does not always imply a longer time in training and (2) can have little impact on accuracy and (3) using more features is tied to data processing order. Distributed photovoltaic (PV) power stations generally lack historical meteorological data, which is one of the main reasons for their insufficient power prediction accuracy. To address this issue, this paper proposes a power prediction method for regional distributed PV power stations based on meteorological encryption and spatio-temporal graph networks. First, inverse distance weighted meteorological encryption technology is used to achieve the comprehensive coverage of key meteorological resources based on the geographical locations of PV power stations and the meteorological resources of weather stations. Next, the historical power correlations between PV power stations are analyzed, and highly correlated stations are connected to construct a topological graph structure. Then, an improved spatio-temporal graph network model is established based on this graph to deeply mine the spatio-temporal characteristics of regional PV power stations. Furthermore, a dual-layer attention mechanism is added to further learn the feature attributes of nodes and enhance the spatio-temporal features extracted by the spatio-temporal graph network, ultimately achieving power prediction for regional PV power stations. In solar forecasting, it is common practice for solar data (be it irradiance or photovoltaic power) to be converted into a stationary index (e.g., clear-sky or clearness index) before being used as inputs for solar-forecasting models. However, its actual impact is rarely quantified. Thus, this paper aims to study the impact of including this processing step in the modeling workflow within the scope of very-short-term spatio-temporal forecasting. Several forecasting models are considered, and the observed impact is shown to be model-dependent. Persistence does not benefit from this for such short timescales; however, the statistical models achieve an additional 0.5 to 2.5 percentual points (PPs) in terms of the forecasting skill. Machine-learning (ML) models achieve 0.9 to 1.9 more PPs compared to a linear regression, indicating that stationarization reveals non-linear patterns in the data. The exception is Random Forest, which underperforms in comparison with the other models. Lastly, the inclusion of solar elevation and azimuth angles as inputs is tested since these are easy to compute and can inform the model on time-dependent patterns. Only the cases where the input is not made stationary, or the underperforming Random Forest model, seem to benefit from this. This indicates that the apparent Sun position data can compensate for the lack of stationarization in the solar inputs and can help the models to differentiate the daily and seasonal variability from the shorter-term, weather-driven variability. Socioeconomic growth and population increase are driving a constant global demand for energy. Renewable energy is emerging as a leading solution to minimise the use of fossil fuels. However, renewable resources are characterised by significant intermittency and unpredictability, which impact their energy production and integration into the power grid. In this paper, a comparative analysis of forecasting methods for renewable energy production is developed, focusing on photovoltaic and wind power. A review of state-of-the-art techniques is conducted to synthesise and categorise different forecasting models, taking into account climatic variables, optimisation algorithms, pre-processing techniques, and various forecasting horizons. Aiming at the current power control problems of grid-side electrochemical energy storage power station in multiple scenarios, this paper proposes an optimal power model prediction control (MPC) strategy for electrochemical energy storage power station. This method is based on the power conversion system (PCS) grid-connected voltage and current to establish a power prediction model for energy storage power stations, achieving a one-step prediction of the power of the power station. The power prediction error is used as a power regulation feedback quantity to correct the reference power input. Considering the state of charge ( S O C ) constraint of the battery, partition the S O C into different states. Using S O C as the power regulation feedback, the power of the battery compartment can be adjusted according to the range of the battery S O C to prevent S O C from exceeding the limit value, simultaneously calculating the power loss of the energy storage power station to improve the energy efficiency. The objective function is to minimize the power deviation and power loss of the power station. By solving the objective function, the optimal switching voltage vector of the converter output is achieved to achieve optimal power control of the energy storage power station. The simulation results in various application scenarios of the energy storage power station show that the proposed control strategy enables the power of the storage station to quickly and accurately track the demand of grid scheduling, achieving the optimal power control of the electrochemical energy storage power station. Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh (BLE Mesh) enables Bluetooth flexibility and coverage by introducing Low-Power Nodes (LPNs) and enhanced networking protocol. It is also a commonly used communication method in sensor networks. In BLE Mesh, LPNs are periodically woken to exchange messages in a stop-and-wait way, where the tradeoff between energy and efficiency is a hard problem. Related works have reduced the energy consumption of LPNs mainly in the direction of changing the bearer layer, improving time synchronization and broadcast channel utilization. These algorithms improve communication efficiency; however, they cause energy loss, especially for the LPNs. In this paper, we propose a constrained flooding algorithm based on time series prediction and lightweight GBN (Go-Back-N). On the one hand, the wake-up cycle of the LPNs is determined by the time series prediction of the surrounding load. On the other, LPNs exchange messages through lightweight GBN, which improves the window and ACK mechanisms. Simulation results validate the effectiveness of the Time series Prediction and LlightWeight GBN (TP-LW) algorithm in energy consumption and throughput. In this paper, a practical discrete-time control method with adaptive image feature prediction for the image-based visual servoing (IBVS) scheme is presented. In the discrete-time IBVS inner-loop/outer-loop control architecture, the time delay caused by image capture and computation is noticed. Considering the dynamic characteristics of a 6-DOF manipulator velocity input system, we propose a linear dynamic model to describe the motion of a robot end effector. Furthermore, for better estimation of image features and smoothing of the robot's velocity input, we propose an adaptive image feature prediction method that employs past image feature data and real robot velocity data to adopt the prediction parameters. End-to-end disparity estimation algorithms based on cost volume deployed in edge-end neural network accelerators have the problem of structural adaptation and need to ensure accuracy under the condition of adaptation operator. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel disparity calculation algorithm that uses low-rank approximation to approximately replace 3D convolution and transposed 3D convolution, WReLU to reduce data compression caused by the activation function, and unimodal cost volume filtering and a confidence estimation network to regularize cost volume. It alleviates the problem of disparity-matching cost distribution being far away from the true distribution and greatly reduces the computational complexity and number of parameters of the algorithm while improving accuracy. Experimental results show that compared with a typical disparity estimation network, the absolute error of the proposed algorithm is reduced by 38.3%, the three-pixel error is reduced to 1.41%, and the number of parameters is reduced by 67.3%. The Airborne Terahertz Ice Cloud Imager (ATICI) is an airborne demonstration prototype of an ice cloud imager (ICI), which will be launched on the next generation of Fengyun satellites and plays an important role in heavy precipitation detection, typhoon, and medium-to-short-term meteorological/ocean forecasting. At present, it has 13 frequency channels covering 183–664 GHz, which are sensitive to scattering by cloud ice. This paper provides an overview of ATICI and proposes a receiving front-end design scheme using a planar mirror and a quasi-optical feed network which improves the main beam efficiency of each frequency band, with measured values better than 95.5%. It can detect factors such as ice particle size, ice water path, and ice water content in clouds by rotating the circular scanning of the antenna feed system. A high-sensitivity receiver system has been developed and tested for verification. The flight verification results show that the quasi-optical feed network subsystem works well and performs stably under vibration and temperature changes. The system sensitivity is better than 1.5 K, and the domestically produced high-frequency receiver has stable performance, which can meet the conditions of satellite applications. Hybrid power plants have recently emerged as reliable and flexible electricity generation stations by combining multiple renewable energy sources, energy storage systems (ESS), and fossil-based output. However, the effective operation of the hybrid power plants to ensure continuous energy dispatch under challenging conditions is a complex task. This paper proposes a dispatch engine (DE) based on mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) for the planning and management of hybrid power plants. To maintain the committed electricity output, the dispatch engine will provide schedules for operation over extended time periods as well as monitor and reschedule the operation in real time. Through precise prediction of the load and the photovoltaic (PV) and wind power outputs, the proposed approach guarantees optimum scheduling. The precise predictions of the load, PV, and wind power levels are achieved by employing a predictor of the Feed-Forward Neural Network (FFNN) type. With such a dispatch engine, the operational costs of the hybrid power plants and the use of diesel generators (DGs) are both minimized. A case study is carried out to assess the feasibility of the proposed dispatch engine. Real-time measurement data pertaining to load and the wind and PV power outputs are obtained from different locations in the Sultanate of Oman. The real-time data are utilized to predict the future levels of power output from PV and from the wind farm over the course of 24 h. The predicted power levels are then used in combination with a PV–Wind–DG–ESS–Grid hybrid plant to evaluate the performance of the proposed dispatch engine. The proposed approach is implemented and simulated using MATLAB. The results of the simulation reveal the proposed FFNN's powerful forecasting abilities. Short-term load forecasting plays a crucial role in managing the energy consumption of buildings in cities. Accurate forecasting enables residents to reduce energy waste and facilitates timely decision-making for power companies' energy management. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid forecasting model designed to predict load series in multiple households. Our proposed method integrates multivariate variational mode decomposition (MVMD), the whale optimization algorithm (WOA), and a temporal fusion transformer (TFT) to perform one-step forecasts. MVMD is utilized to decompose the load series into intrinsic mode functions (IMFs), extracting characteristics at distinct scales. We use sample entropy to determine the appropriate number of decomposition levels and the penalty factor of MVMD. The WOA is utilized to optimize the hyperparameters of MVMD-TFT to enhance its overall performance. We generate two distinct cases originating from BCHydro. The performance degradation of initiating explosive devices is influenced by various internal and external factors, leading to uncertainties in their reliability and lifetime predictions. This paper proposes an uncertain degradation model based on uncertain differential equations, utilizing the Liu process to characterize the volatility in degradation rates. The ignition delay time is selected as the primary performance parameter, and the uncertain distributions, expected values and confidence intervals are derived for the model. Moment estimation techniques are employed to estimate the unknown parameters within the model. In metal additive manufacturing (AM), precise temperature field prediction is crucial for process monitoring, automation, control, and optimization. Traditional methods, primarily offline and data-driven, struggle with adapting to real-time changes and new process scenarios, which limits their applicability for effective AM process control. To address these challenges, this paper introduces the first physics-informed (PI) online learning framework specifically designed for temperature prediction in metal AM. Utilizing a physics-informed neural network (PINN), this framework integrates a neural network architecture with physics-informed inputs and loss functions. Pretrained on a known process to establish a baseline, the PINN transitions to an online learning phase, dynamically updating its weights in response to new, unseen data. This adaptation allows the model to continuously refine its predictions in real-time. By integrating physics-informed components, the PINN leverages prior knowledge about the manufacturing processes, enabling rapid adjustments to process parameters, geometries, deposition patterns, and materials. Empirical results confirm the robust performance of this PI online learning framework in accurately predicting temperature fields for unseen processes across various conditions. It notably surpasses traditional data-driven models, especially in critical areas like the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) and melt pool. The PINN's use of physical laws and prior knowledge not only provides a significant advantage over conventional models but also ensures more accurate predictions under diverse conditions. Furthermore, our analysis of key hyperparameters—the learning rate and batch size of the online learning phase—highlights their roles in optimizing the learning process and enhancing the framework's overall effectiveness. Modern technology and analysis of emotions play a crucial role in enabling intelligent healthcare systems to provide diagnostics and self-assistance services based on observation. However, precise data predictions and computational models are critical for these systems to perform their jobs effectively. Traditionally, healthcare monitoring has been the primary emphasis. However, there were a couple of negatives, including the pattern feature generating the method's scalability and reliability, which was tested with different data sources. This paper delves into the Discriminant Input Processing Scheme (DIPS), a crucial instrument for resolving challenges. Data-segmentation-based complex processing techniques allow DIPS to merge many emotion analysis streams. The DIPS recommendation engine uses segmented data characteristics to sift through inputs from the emotion stream for patterns. The recommendation is more accurate and flexible since DIPS uses transfer learning to identify similar data across different streams. With transfer learning, this study can be sure that the previous recommendations and data properties will be available in future data streams, making the most of them. The development of a sparse-invariant depth completion model capable of handling varying levels of input depth sparsity is highly desirable in real-world applications. However, existing sparse-invariant models tend to degrade when the input depth points are extremely sparse. In this paper, we propose a new model that combines the advantageous designs of depth completion and monocular depth estimation tasks to achieve sparse invariance. Specifically, we construct a dual-branch architecture with one branch dedicated to depth prediction and the other to depth completion. Additionally, we integrate the multi-scale local planar module in the decoders of both branches. Experimental results on the NYU Depth V2 benchmark and the OPPO prototype dataset equipped with the Spot-iToF316 sensor demonstrate that our model achieves reliable results even in cases with irregularly distributed, limited or absent depth information. Sierra Leone is an electricity-poor country with one of the lowest electricity consumption per capita rates across sub-Saharan Africa. Yet, with ambitious targets to transform and stimulate its economy in the coming decades, energy demand forecasting becomes an integral component of successful energy planning. Through applying the MAED-D (version 2.0.0) demand software, this research study aims to generate Sierra Leone's electricity demand forecasts from 2023 to 2050. Three novel scenarios (baseline-, high-, and low-demand) are developed based on socio-economic and technical parameters. The baseline scenario considers the current electricity sector as business-as-usual; the high-demand scenario examines an ambitious development future with increased economic diversification and mechanisation, and the low-demand scenario examines more reserved future development. The modelled scenario results project an increase in electricity demand ranging from 7.32 PJ and 12.23 PJ to 5.53 PJ for the baseline-, high-, and low-demand scenarios, respectively, by 2050. This paper provides a base set of best-available data needed to produce an electricity demand model for Sierra Leone which can be used as a capacity-building tool for in-country energy planning alongside further integration into data modelling pipelines. Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a spectrum of motor and non-motor symptoms, prominently featuring the freezing of gait (FOG), which significantly impairs patients' quality of life. Despite extensive research, the precise mechanisms underlying FOG remain elusive, posing challenges for effective management and treatment. This paper presents a comprehensive meta-analysis of FOG prediction and detection methodologies, with a focus on the integration of wearable sensor technology and machine learning (ML) approaches. Through an exhaustive review of the literature, this study identifies key trends, datasets, preprocessing techniques, feature extraction methods, evaluation metrics, and comparative analyses between ML and non-ML approaches. The analysis also explores the utilization of cueing devices. The limited adoption of explainable AI (XAI) approaches in FOG prediction research represents a significant gap. Improving user acceptance and comprehension requires an understanding of the logic underlying algorithm predictions. Current FOG detection and prediction research has a number of limitations, which are identified in the discussion. These include issues with cueing devices, dataset constraints, ethical and privacy concerns, financial and accessibility restrictions, and the requirement for multidisciplinary collaboration. Future research avenues center on refining explainability, expanding and diversifying datasets, adhering to user requirements, and increasing detection and prediction accuracy. The findings contribute to advancing the understanding of FOG and offer valuable guidance for the development of more effective detection and prediction methodologies, ultimately benefiting individuals affected by PD. Day-ahead electricity price forecasting (DAEPF) holds critical significance for stakeholders in energy markets, particularly in areas with large amounts of renewable energy sources (RES) integration. In Japan, the proliferation of RES has led to instances wherein day-ahead electricity prices drop to nearly zero JPY/kWh during peak RES production periods, substantially affecting transactions between electricity retailers and consumers. This paper introduces an innovative DAEPF framework employing a Convolutional Neural Network–Long Short-Term Memory (CNN–LSTM) model designed to predict day-ahead electricity prices in the Kyushu area of Japan. To mitigate the inherent uncertainties associated with neural networks, a novel ensemble learning approach is implemented to bolster the DAEPF model's robustness and prediction accuracy. The CNN–LSTM model is verified to outperform a standalone LSTM model in both prediction accuracy and computation time. Additionally, applying a natural logarithm transformation to the target day-ahead electricity price as a pre-processing technique has proven necessary for higher prediction accuracy. A novel "policy-versus-policy" strategy is proposed to address the prediction problem of the zero prices, halving the computation time of the traditional two-stage method. The efficacy of incorporating a suite of multimodal features: areal day-ahead electricity price, day-ahead system electricity price, areal actual power generation, areal meteorological forecasts, calendar forecasts, alongside the rolling features of areal day-ahead electricity price, as explanatory variables to significantly enhance DAEPF accuracy has been validated. The transition to smart grids is revolutionizing the management and distribution of electrical energy. Nowadays, power systems must precisely estimate real-time loads and use adaptive regulation to operate in the era of sustainable energy. To address these issues, this paper presents a new approach—a hybrid neuro-fuzzy system—that combines neural networks with fuzzy logic. We use neural networks' adaptability to describe complex load patterns and fuzzy logic's interpretability to fine-tune control techniques in our approach. Our improved load forecasting system can now respond to changes in real-time due to the combination of these two powerful methodologies. Developing, training, and implementing the forecasting and control system are detailed in this article, which also explores the theoretical underpinnings of our hybrid neuro-fuzzy approach. We demonstrate how the technology improves grid stability and the accuracy of load forecasts by using adaptive control methods. Furthermore, comprehensive simulations confirm the proposed technology, showcasing its smooth integration with smart grid infrastructure. Tool wear prediction is of great significance in industrial production. Current tool wear prediction methods mainly rely on the indirect estimation of machine learning, which focuses more on estimating the current tool wear state and lacks effective quantification of random uncertainty factors. To overcome these shortcomings, this paper proposes a novel method for predicting cutting tool wear. In the offline phase, the multiple degradation features were modeled using the Brownian motion stochastic process and a SVR model was trained for mapping the features and the tool wear values. In the online phase, the Bayesian inference was used to update the random parameters of the feature degradation model, and the future trend of the features was estimated using simulation samples. The estimation results were input into the SVR model to achieve in-advance prediction of the cutting tool wear in the form of distribution densities. An experimental tool wear dataset was used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results demonstrate that the method shows superiority in prediction accuracy and stability. In this paper, we introduce SonoNERFs, a novel approach that adapts Neural Radiance Fields (NeRFs) to model and understand the echolocation process in bats, focusing on the challenges posed by acoustic data interpretation without phase information. Leveraging insights from the field of optical NeRFs, our model, termed SonoNERF, represents the acoustic environment through Neural Reflectivity Fields. This model allows us to reconstruct three-dimensional scenes from echolocation data, obtained by simulating how bats perceive their surroundings through sound. By integrating concepts from biological echolocation and modern computational models, we demonstrate the SonoNERF's ability to predict echo spectrograms for unseen echolocation poses and effectively reconstruct a mesh-based and energy-based representation of complex scenes. Our work bridges a gap in understanding biological echolocation and proposes a methodological framework that provides a first-order model of how scene understanding might arise in echolocating animals. With the rapid growth of the data scale in data centers, the high reliability of storage is facing various challenges. Specifically, hardware failures such as disk faults occur frequently, causing serious system availability issues. In this context, hardware fault prediction based on AI and big data technologies has become a research hotspot, aiming to guide operation and maintenance personnel to implement preventive replacement through accurate prediction to reduce hardware failure rates. However, existing methods still have weaknesses in terms of accuracy due to the impacts of data quality issues such as the sample imbalance. This article proposes a disk fault prediction method based on classification intensity resampling, which fills the gap between the degree of data imbalance and the actual classification intensity of the task by introducing a base classifier to calculate the classification intensity, thus better preserving the data features of the original dataset. In addition, using ensemble learning methods such as random forests, combined with resampling, an integrated classifier for imbalanced data is developed to further improve the prediction accuracy. Experimental verification shows that compared with traditional methods, the F1-score of disk fault prediction is improved by 6%, and the model training time is also greatly reduced. The fault prediction method proposed in this paper has been applied to approximately 80 disk drives and nearly 40,000 disks in the production environment of a large bank's data center to guide preventive replacements. Compared to traditional methods, the number of preventive replacements based on our method has decreased by approximately 21%, while the overall disk failure rate remains unchanged, thus demonstrating the effectiveness of our method. This paper aims to determine whether there is a case for promoting a new benchmark for forecasting practice via the innovative application of generative artificial intelligence (Gen-AI) for predicting the future. Today, forecasts can be generated via Gen-AI models without the need for an in-depth understanding of forecasting theory, practice, or coding. Therefore, using three datasets, we present a comparative analysis of forecasts from Gen-AI models against forecasts from seven univariate and automated models from the forecast package in R, covering both parametric and non-parametric forecasting techniques. In some cases, we find statistically significant evidence to conclude that forecasts from Gen-AI models can outperform forecasts from popular benchmarks like seasonal ARIMA, seasonal naïve, exponential smoothing, and Theta forecasts (to name a few). Our findings also indicate that the accuracy of forecasts from Gen-AI models can vary not only based on the underlying data structure but also on the quality of prompt engineering (thus highlighting the continued importance of forecasting education), with the forecast accuracy appearing to improve at longer horizons. Therefore, we find some evidence towards promoting forecasts from Gen-AI models as benchmarks in future forecasting practice.
