This book is an interdisciplinary text exploring the learning and educative potentials of cities and their spaces, including urban and suburban contexts, at all stages of life. Drawing on the insights of researchers from diverse fields, such as education, architecture, history, visual sociology, applied linguistics and sensory studies, this collection of papers develops and demonstrates the connection between experience, in all its dimensions, and informal learning in the city. The chapters discuss various sensory domains of experience, considering visual, embodied, and even sexual dimensions in relation to what and how learning operates, and the contributors reflect on their learning and inquiring experiences in the city, with special reference to topics such as narrativity, ‘race'and ethnicity, equity, urban literacy, re-generation, participation, representation and oral histories.

Professor Peter Jarvis has spent over 30 years researching, thinking and writing about some of the key and enduring issues in education. He has contributed well over 30 books and 200 papers and chapters in books on learning theory, adult education and learning, continuing professional education, nurse education, primary school education, distance education and third age education. In this book, he brings together 19 key writings in one place. The theme of'Learning in a Changing Environment'reflects the way in which educational thinking in Higher Education has undergone a rapid change throughout the world. The EDINEB network consists of people who see the role of educationalists as providing a framework for learning rather than taking a traditional approach of'chalk and talk'. The key to the success of this fourth conference (and these articles selected from it) lies in the supportive role delegates give to each other in sharing experiences (and problems!) in a changing environment. The network has grown because ofthe commitment of members to form what is in effect a multinational self-help group which is dedicated to continual improvement in the educational environment. This fourth EDINEB conference brought together 95 registrations from over 21 countries. The 16 papers selected represent a cross-section of the articles submitted to the authors and the book is divided into four sections. 1 LEARNING OBJECTIVES AND PROGRAMME STRUCTURES The first section examines how different programmes (in different of countries and cultures) have been structured to meet the particular needs both the participants/students and the economic environment within which they operate.

Die Qualität eines Unterrichts, der sich an den individuellen Voraussetzungen der Schulkinder orientiert, hängt maßgeblich mit der diagnostischen Kompetenz der Lehrkraft zusammen. Folglich ist die Entwicklung dieser eine grundlegende Aufgabe aller drei Phasen der Lehrkräftebildung. In der vorliegenden Studie wird das Praxissemester als struktureller Bestandteil der ersten Phase der Lehramtsausbildung fokussiert und die Wirkung auf die Entwicklung mathematikspezifischer diagnostischer Kompetenz untersucht. Den Kern der als mixed-method angelegten längsschnittlichen Evaluation stellen vier Videovignetten dar, zu denen die Studierenden aus dem Grundschullehramt in einer Online-Umfrage mit offenen Antwortformaten aufgefordert wurden, die Lösungswege von Kindern zur Addition und Subtraktion fachlich angemessen zu analysieren. Die Ergebnisse bestätigen einerseits die geringe Effektivität vor allem der schulischen Praxisphase. Anderseits werden auf Basis der vorliegenden Daten relevante Bedingungsfaktoren herausgearbeitet und Verbesserungsmöglichkeiten für die universitäre und schulische Phase des Praxissemesters diskutiert.

Durch aktuelle Herausforderungen wie hohe Studierendenzahlen wird es insbesondere in den großen Studiendomänen der Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften zunehmend schwerer, die Lernbedarfe einzelner Studierender frühzeitig zu identifizieren und diese in der Lehre zu berücksichtigen. Die gleichzeitig starke Heterogenität der Studierendenschaft macht es erforderlich, Wege zu suchen, vulnerablen Gruppen über das generelle Lehrangebot hinaus spezifische Angebote zu machen, um die Studierenden adäquat zu unterstützen und somit ein erfolgreiches Studium zu ermöglichen. Das Erreichen individuellen Studienerfolgs ist schließlich ein zentrales Ziel der Hochschulbildung. Eine einheitliche Definition von Studienerfolg liegt jedoch bis heute nicht vor. Die vorliegende Untersuchung fokussiert zum einen die Bildung von Studienerfolgstypologien im Bachelorstudium unter Einbezug zahlreicher Facetten von Studienerfolg, und zum anderen die Prüfung der bisherigen Forschungsbefunde hinsichtlich personenbezogener Merkmale zur Prädiktion von Studienerfolg und damit zur Identifikation vulnerabler Studierendengruppen. Die Analyse zeichnet sich insbesondere durch das ganzheitliche theoretisch-konzeptuelle Studienerfolgsverständnis aus, das empirisch mittels clusteranalytischer Verfahren einer gemeinsamen Betrachtung zugänglich gemacht wird

This book provides a comprehensive overview of family education policy development in China. Each chapter draws upon existing literature, reviews the policy text and implementation data, identifies the challenges of and problems in the policy implementation process, and proposes corresponding countermeasures and solutions. It examines a wide range of education policies in China, including the management policy of family education organization, family education resource allocation policy, family education guidance service policy, the educational policy on the parent-school cooperation, school support-based family education policy, community support-based family education policy, family education monitoring and evaluation policy, and family education responsibility sharing policy.

This book advances new ways of thinking about emergence and impact of Itinerant Curriculum Theory (ICT). Written by authors based in Algeria, Brazil, Chile, China, Estonia, South Korea, Spain and the USA, the chapters examine the opportunities and challenges paved by ICT in the struggle to open up and decolonize curriculum policies. The contributors show how ICT can help us to pave a new way to think about and to do curriculum theory and announce ICT as a declaration of epistemological liberation, one that helps to resist Eurocentric dominance. The chapters cover topics including, ecologies of the Global South, education discourse in South Korea, China's Curriculum Reform, and the history of colonialism in the Middle East. Building on the work of Antonia Darder, Boaventura de Sousa Santos and others, this book posits that the future of the field is the struggle against curriculum epistemicides and this is ultimately a struggle for social justice. The book includes a Foreword by the leading curriculum historian William Schubert, Professor Emeritus of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA.

Das Buch beschreibt das geisteswissenschaftliche Universitätsseminar als eine besondere Form der unterrichtlichen Ordnung, welche sich in ihren Wertgrundlagen, institutionellen Rahmenbedingungen und Interaktionspraktiken von anderen Unterrichtsordnungen unterscheidet. Es werden unterschiedliche Einschätzungen zum Status des Universitätsseminars als unterrichtliche Ordnung auf Basis bisheriger theoretischer und empirischer Arbeiten nachgezeichnet. Auf diesem Weg wird die Grundlage für eine Rekonstruktion fachlicher Lehr-Lern-Interaktionen im literaturwissenschaftlichen Universitätsseminar gelegt. Dazu wird eine theoretische Deutung des Universitätsseminars als Sozialisationsraum vorgenommen und mit bislang erfolgten empirischen Beschreibungen von Lehr-Lern-Interaktionen im Rahmen der Universität konfrontiert. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf der methodischen Reflexion der jeweiligen Bestimmungen des Universitätsseminars und insbesondere auf der Frage nach dem Verhältnis von „Idee“ und „Empirie“.

This volume originated from an international, interdisciplinary research course organized by the Institute of Information Management of the University of Münster in 2021-2022, funded by the DAAD IVAC sponsorship program. The coauthors and their contributions represent different disciplines, fusing perspectives of law and information sciences. The contributions present current issues in AI, ethics and human rights, policing, privacy and surveillance, social media, and data protection. Die vorliegende Studie befasst sich mit differenten Sozialisationsprozessen von männlichen Nachwuchsleistungssportlern aus dem Sektor Handball, welche in (Sport-)Internaten leben. Um der Forschungsfrage ‚Wie gestalten sich Sozialisationsprozesse von männlichen Nachwuchsleistungssportlern in Leistungssportinstitutionen mit Internat?‘ nachgehen zu können, wurden in drei verschiedenen Internatseinrichtungen mit leistungssportlichem Profil biographisch-narrative Interviews durchgeführt. Die empirische Arbeit wird der qualitativen Sozialforschung zugeordnet. Die Zielgruppe der Biographieforschung setzt sich aus Nachwuchsleistungssportlern im Alter von 15 bis 20 Jahren zusammen, um die subjektive Sichtweise und Erfahrungswerte aus Perspektive der Nachwuchsleistungssportler transparent machen zu können. Die erhobenen Daten wurden im Anschluss anhand der Narrationsanalyse nach Schütze ausgewertet.

Als integraler Bestandteil der Weltgesellschaft ist die arabische Staatengemeinschaft in den kommenden Jahrzehnten mit präzedenzlosen Herausforderungen, aber auch Chancen konfrontiert. Der Band prüft den Begriff Responsibilisierung aus unterschiedlichen disziplinären Perspektiven auf seine Aktualität, sein analytisches Gewicht und seine theoretischen Bedeutungen und bringt so die Erziehungswissenschaft mit der Soziologie, der Philosophie oder der Geschichtswissenschaft ins Gespräch. Es wird sowohl danach gefragt, welche tragfähigen theoretischen, analytischen und politischen Perspektiven mit einer positiven Bezugnahme auf die Begriffe ‹Verantwortung› und ‹Responsibilisierung› verbunden sind, als auch danach, welche Kritiken angemessen erscheinen.

In diesem Buch wird der Übergang aus einer Tätigkeit als gewerblich-technische Fachkraft in die hauptamtliche Ausbildungsfunktion in einer betrieblichen Ausbildungswerkstatt untersucht. In einem fallrekonstruktiven Forschungsansatz wird das Erleben und Bewältigen von typischen Herausforderungen während und infolge dieses Übergangs nachgezeichnet. Hierzu wurden hauptamtliche Ausbilder•innen in den industriellen Metall- und Elektroberufen zu ihren Übergangserfahrungen befragt. Ergebnis ist eine empirisch fundierte Beschreibung von fünf typischen Entwicklungsaufgaben, mit denen Ausbilder•innen während und infolge des Übergangs konfrontiert werden und die sie in Abhängigkeit von subjektiven Ressourcen und Orientierungen unterschiedlich deuten und bearbeiten. Die Fallrekonstruktion führt zu vier Typen von Bewältigungsstrategien, die sich hinsichtlich ihres Umgangs mit Erfahrungswissen, ihrer pädagogischen Überzeugungen sowie ihres Reflexionswissens unterscheiden. Darauf aufbauend wird mit Hilfe des Sozialweltkonzeptes die Frage nach der Rolle und Funktion einer übergeordneten kollegialen Bezugsgemeinschaft als potentielle Wissens- und Kompetenzgrundlage der Akteure der beruflich-betrieblichen Bildung vor dem Hintergrund der strukturellen Rahmenbedingungen und Systemspezifika diskutiert.

This book interrogates rising fascism in America. It spotlights the major facets of fascism that increasingly characterize contemporary US politics, in relation to political authoritarianism, the rise of anti-intellectualism, the mainstreaming of conspiracy theories, the glorification of political street violence and state violence, rising white supremacy, and the militarization of US political discourse. Alongside this, Giroux and DiMaggio show how the assault on critical education and pedagogy is central to the fascist program. They stress the importance of reprioritizing education as a public good to combating fascist politics and ideology and draw links between fascism and the banning of books in schools, whitewashing history, and punishing policies aimed at Black, Brown, and transgender youth. They challenge the commonly embraced notion that Trumpism is primarily a function of economic insecurity within his support base, documenting how support for the former president primarily centered on reactionary socio-cultural values and white supremacy. They also show how white supremacist values are central to the Trump base defending the January 6th insurrection, despite academics, journalists, and political officials in both major parties ignoring the threat of rising white nationalism.

Innerhalb der Forschung zur professionellen Kompetenz von Lehrkräften kommen vermehrt videobasierte Kompetenzmessungen zum Einsatz. Durch die Kombination von Videomaterial unterrichtlicher Praxis mit spezifischen Testfragen sollen Rückschlüsse auf handlungsnahe Kompetenzen bzw. sogenannte situationsspezifische Fähigkeiten von Lehrkräften ermöglicht werden. Auf Basis von zwei Literaturreviews untersucht die vorliegende Arbeit die Konzeption und Erfassung situationsspezifischer Fähigkeiten am Beispiel des Konstrukts'Teacher Noticing', welches in der mathematikdidaktischen Forschung besonders verbreitet ist, und gibt einen umfassenden Überblick zu vorliegenden Testinstrumenten, die auf dieses Konstrukt abzielen. Insbesondere wird diskutiert, inwieweit unterschiedliche Messansätze zu vergleichbaren Ergebnissen führen und welche Konsequenzen sich aus der Heterogenität der Messansätze für den wissenschaftlichen Diskurs ergeben. Anhand zweier empirischer Arbeiten wird weiterführend geprüft, inwieweit anspruchsvolle videobasierte Kompetenzmessungen bereits mit Lehramtsstudierenden einsetzbar sind und Rückschlüsse auf deren Kompetenzentwicklung zulassen. Die Ergebnisse stützen dabei grundsätzlich die Einsetzbarkeit in der universitären Phase der Lehrkräfteausbildung, wobei sich nur geringe Zusammenhänge zu den Lerngelegenheiten innerhalb dieses Ausbildungsabschnitts zeigen.

This book provides a comprehensive insight and roadmap to accelerate the implementation of digital transformation (DX) within Arab Universities along with an understanding of the challenges that accompany such change. It explores the elements of DX in universities and presents case studies and experiences from Arab Universities along with recommendations that facilitate the use of DX in higher education. Within the Arab region, the potential for digitization within the higher education landscape has significant outcomes and impacts on the growth, progression, and development of this sector. Digital transformation allows universities to respond to change while fostering a student-centered approach and remaining relevant to the growing demands of the twenty-first century. It also improves the universities activities such as teaching and learning, curricula development and implementation, processes, operations, support services, and infrastructure. This increases the university's competitive advantage locally and internationally. Embracing and adopting DX requires a paradigm shift in a university's strategy and culture. The Arab world is home to more than 1,000 universities and in excess of 13 million students, and its higher education system offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. To continue our series of books on higher education, we propose that the theme of this 8th book should be “Higher Education in the Arab World: Digital Transformation” in universities. In a complex regional and global climate, this book provokes a rich exploration of ideas around the challenges surrounding this sector and how to address them.

This book documents and chronicles current research and initiatives, and growing knowledge base about well-being, in a Singapore context. In Singapore, the well-being of children and youth has been the subject of research and policy efforts. This is reflective of global and national concerns on the care of the young and those at risk of maladaptive outcomes, the nurturing of emotional health and resilience, and development of social and psychological resources. The chapters present a brief yet comprehensive summary of current insights on the well-being of children, adolescents, teachers, parents, and caregivers within the context of Singapore. This book highlights important issues and gaps in research related to the well-being of children and adolescents that are also relevant to the global community. It also provides recommendations for future directions that will be useful to researchers, policymakers, practitioners, parents, and other key stakeholders.

Das vorliegende Buch beschäftigt sich mit den Charakteristika von Aufgaben in der Domäne Rechnungswesen aus einer fachdidaktischen Perspektive. Dazu wurde der aktuelle fachdidaktische Diskussionsstand aus der Fachdidaktik Rechnungswesen aufgearbeitet und auf Basis dessen ein umfassendes Kategoriensystem zur Analyse und Bewertung von Aufgaben aus dem Rechnungswesen entwickelt. Das Kategoriensystem kann des Weiteren genutzt werden, um neue Aufgaben für das Rechnungswesen zu entwickeln und bestehende Aufgaben zu optimieren. Darüber hinaus wurden 2.000 Rechnungswesenaufgaben aus 15 verschiedenen Schulbüchern von drei österreichischen Verlagen mithilfe des Kategoriensystems analysiert und bewertet. Damit kann der Wissensstand zu den Charakteristika von Aufgaben in der Domäne Rechnungswesen erheblich erweitert werden. Die Ergebnisse der umfassenden Auswertungen zeigen, dass bei den Aufgaben Verbesserungspotenzial besteht und die im Rahmen des Kategoriensystems formulierten Ansprüche an Aufgaben im Rechnungswesen derzeit nicht umfassend erfüllt werden. Darüber hinaus wird festgestellt, dass im derzeitigen Rechnungswesenunterricht sowohl eine Änderung der Aufgabenkultur als auch curriculare Änderungen und Weiterentwicklungen notwendig sind.

Ausgehend von der theoretischen Grundannahme, dass Sprachtherapie als Bestandteil von Bildung anzusehen ist, werden Interaktionen zwischen Sprachtherapeut•innen und Kindern im vorschulischen Bereich über einen ethnographischen Zugang untersucht. Die zentrale Frage der Arbeit lautet, inwieweit Kindern in diesem frühkindlichen Bildungskontext Teilhabe ermöglicht wird. Die Autorin kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Praktiken der Sprachtherapie von einer starken Machtasymmetrie gekennzeichnet sind, die die Sprachprofessionellen in Form von fortlaufenden Evaluationen und dem Einfordern von formal festgelegten monolingualen Kurzantworten aufrechterhalten. Dadurch kommt es zu Beschränkungen von mehrsprachig-kommunikativer Teilhabe und weiterer Beteiligungsmöglichkeiten der als ‚sprachbeeinträchtigt‘ adressierten Kinder.

This volume, the first of a two volume set, addresses three major areas in response to the post-Anthropocene: childhood, environment and indigeneity. Each of these areas is broadly addressed in relation to the concerns that have arisen both theoretically and educationally. The author terms these to be encounters as each area presents a particular problematic when addressing the phase change that the planet is undergoing where the anthropogenic labour of global humanity is contributing to climate change, endangering our very existence. There has been a concerted effort to overcome the nature-culture divide in education. The author reviews this development in the first section where there has been a particular emphasis placed on childhood education. In the second section he turns to the pedagogical theories that are attempting to overcome this same divide in environmental and science education. The last section attempts to bring into the conversation the vast literature on Indigeneity and their attempts to revise traditional education to meet these extraordinary times.

Die Studie geht der Frage nach, inwiefern eine rassismuskritische Professionalisierung von Lehramtsstudierenden unter den Bedingungen der sich im Lehramtsstudium verdichtenden ökonomisierten Studienstrukturen stattfinden kann. Hierzu werden Vermittlungsprozesse von Reflexionswissen und Kompetenzen unter den Bedingungen des Lehramtsstudiums aus rassismuskritischer Perspektive untersucht. Das Datenkorpus der Studie basiert auf umfangreichen, teilweise über zwei Semester reichenden Teilnehmenden Beobachtungen in erziehungswissenschaftlichen und physikdidaktischen universitären Lehrveranstaltungen. Demnach greift die Studie auf einen ethnographisch informierten Forschungsansatz zurück, bei dem aufgrund der spezifischen Feldbedingungen des Forschungsfeldes ‚universitäre Lehrveranstaltung‘ bereits während der Beobachtungen umfassende Notizen angefertigt werden konnten. Ausführliche Beobachtungsprotokolle wurden dann – basierend auf diesen Feldnotizen – unmittelbar nach den beobachteten Lehrveranstaltungen angefertigt. Forschungs-Gespräche mit beteiligten Studierenden ergänzen die empirische Grundlage der Studie. Die Studie folgt in Design und Auswertungsmethode dem Forschungsparadigma der Reflexiven Grounded Theory.

Students, parents, teachers, leaders, and policy-makers generate and take responsibility for their efforts, often without understanding the nature of the responsibility they hold. Barbara S. Stengel argues that every educational interaction is a call to and opportunity for responsibility for all involved. In short, responsibility represents the goal for students, the guiding vision for educators'practice, and a useful design principal for leaders and policy makers. Using a critical pragmatist framing of the concept of responsibility, Stengel shows how greater attention to responsibility allows for a deeper understanding of diversity and equity as well as individual and common goods. It enables a deeper understanding of the moral dimensions of teaching and learning prospectively in growth rather than retrospectively in blame. The philosophical discussion of responsibility is coupled with discussion of the lived experiences of students, teachers, aides, and administrators and draws evidence from a case study of a middle school turnaround in Nashville, USA. The Bailey Middle School community developed a reading of responsibility that matched educators'intuitions and experiences of their work, while enhancing students'understanding of their place in the world. The book represents a call for educators to be, and become, responsible for their and their students'lives-in-common and the individual well-being of all in the community.

This book considers ethical educational leadership dilemmas that impact the workplace cultures influencing school districts'success. Die voranschreitende Digitalisierung unserer Lebenswelt stellt die traditionelle Lehrkräfteausbildung in Deutschland vor die Herausforderung, sich den Veränderungen anzupassen und den steigenden Anforderungen im Umgang mit digitalen Medien gerecht zu werden. Dieses Buch konzentriert sich auf die Entwicklung und Förderung von digitalisierungsbezogenen Kompetenzen und Einstellungen sowie der unterrichtlichen Nutzungshäufigkeit digitaler Medien bei Lehramtsstudierenden. Am konkreten Beispiel der Technischen Universität Dortmund werden dabei Zusammenhänge zwischen spezifischen Gestaltungsprinzipien digitalisierungsbezogener Lehr-Lernangebote für angehende Lehrkräfte und dem TPACK-Konzept erforscht. Die Untersuchung basiert auf einer umfassenden Auswertung quantitativer und qualitativer Daten aus den Sommersemestern 2021 und 2023. Im Zentrum dieser Arbeit steht die Bereitstellung einer evidenzbasierten Orientierung für die Vorbereitung von Lehramtsstudierenden auf einen effektiven Einsatz digitaler Medien in schulischen Lehr-Lernprozessen in der Digitalität.

The present study exploratively investigated the role of organizational culture in performance management practices in Kenyan higher education institutions. Specifically, the influence of organizational culture on the purpose and extent to which performance information is used was explored. Qualitative interviews were conducted followed by quantitative surveys, which were filled out by teaching and non-teaching staff in various universities in Kenya. The findings provide evidence of linkages between performance information use, diversity of measure and organizational culture. It has been established that, depending on whether flexibility or control values are dominant in the culture of an institution; performance information is used in varying ways. Institutions where flexibility values were dominant in their organizational cultures used performance information for attention focus, monitoring and decision making to a higher extent than universities where control values were dominant. Institutions where Flexibility values were dominant also showed a more diverse set of performance measures than in those where control values were dominant.

This book examines connections between policy contexts, school experiences and everyday activities of children growing up in the global city of Singapore. In particular, it explores how Singapore children's everyday experiences inside and outside of school shape their orientations towards educational success. Alongside an analysis of school life and educational policies, it also considers children's out-of-school activities, including leisure, homework, and enrichment activities, and connections between these and their school-based activities. The book draws on empirical data from Primary 4 classes in two Singapore schools in the form of student-completed surveys, classroom ethnographies, student responses to a learning dialogues activity, and a re-enactment of one child's out-of-school life, as well as curriculum and policy analysis. It provides readers with an in-depth understanding of Singapore Primary 4 children's experiences inside and outside of school, including the structure of timetables and pedagogical approaches encountered in school lessons, children's enjoyment of activities inside and outside of school, children's engagement and wellbeing at school, and the impact of Singapore's educational policies on children's learning experiences. Moving beyond a simplistic focus on Singapore children's academic performance in international high-stakes testing, the book offers a comprehensive exploration of their lives inside and outside of school. This holistic approach is unique in the Singapore context and contributes to a greater understanding of children's everyday lives in the city.

This book represents the very first, so far unpublished, translation of Piotr Galperin's (1902-1988) dissertation, defended in 1938 during his employment in the All-Ukrainian Psycho-Neurological Academy (AUPA) in Kharkiv, Ukraine. In his candidate dissertation Galperin examined the differences in tool use between humans and animals and argued that there was a fundamental difference between tools developed and used by humans and the auxiliary means used by animals. Galperin showed that human use of tools totally differs from the way tools are utilised by animals as ‘an extension'of their limbs. He suggested that tools created and used by humans encapsulate cultural and historical experience developed in human practices which have to be mastered. Human engagement with these tools reorganise the existing and enhance the development of new psychological functions and that human consciousness originates and develops in the external tool-mediated activities. The development of new psychological functions stimulates the systemic and meaningful organisation of human consciousness. In addition, as opposed to animal mind, human consciousness undergoes developmental transformations initiated in tools- and speech-mediated activities.Galperin's research reveals the unity of the external tool-mediated and the internal psychological activity of humans. These findings are influential as they adopted the foundations of the theory of Vygotsky and extended them without changing the essence of Vygotsky's legacy. Galperin's dissertation can be considered as a missing jig-saw puzzle which connects the legacy of Vygotsky, the contribution of Leontiev and their followers who worked in the cultural-historical and activity traditions. This translation of the dissertation in English makes it available for the cultural-historical scholars in the West and provides insights into the invaluable contributions of Piotr Galperin.

Diese Open-Access-Publikation untersucht studienbezogene Erfahrungen von First-in-Family Studierenden in Österreich und zeigt auf, wie diese ihren studentischen Alltag bewältigen. Formen der Bewältigung und Kriterien des Studienerfolgs sind im Vergleich zu den Herausforderungen und Barrieren, mit denen First-in-Family Studierende konfrontiert sein können, bisher kaum untersucht worden. Mit diesem Buch werden erstmals umfassend jene Lebensbereiche beleuchtet, in die Studierende außerhalb der Universität eingebettet sind und die eine maßgebliche Rolle in Bezug auf deren Studienerfolg spielen. Den theoretischen Rahmen bilden drei Ansätze: (1) die Relationale Theorie Pierre Bourdieus, (2) weiterführende strukturtheoretische Überlegungen sowie (3) das Konzept der Alltäglichen Lebensführung. Das Buch zeigt, wie First-in-Family Studierende ihr Studium wahrnehmen, mit welchen Spannungsdynamiken sie konfrontiert sind und wie sie diese bewältigen. Die Rekonstruktion studienbezogener Erfahrungen von First-in-Family Studierenden und deren Agency sowie Kapitalien stehen im Fokus der Analyse. Des Weiteren wird die Bedeutung einzelner Lebensbereiche in Bezug auf das Studium aufgezeigt und es werden strukturelle Besonderheiten universitärer Institutionen bzw. Studienrichtungen beleuchtet.

Mit ›Bildung‹ und ›Digitalität‹ wird ein intensiv diskutiertes Spannungsfeld markiert: Einerseits wird oft die ›digitale Rückständigkeit‹ von Schule beklagt, andererseits aber lassen sich auch pädagogische Skepsis und Hemmnisse nicht einfach übersehen. An dieser Spannung setzen die Beiträge des Bandes an und fragen sowohl nach den Herausforderungen der ›Bildung‹ durch ›Digitalität‹ als auch umgekehrt nach den Anforderungen an ›Digitalität› durch ›Bildung‹. ​Wir leben in einer Gesellschaft von Selbstverwirklichungssubjekten. Dem spätmodernen Individuum wird Selbstbestimmung versprochen, während es zur Selbstoptimierung angehalten wird. Dieser Trend hält auch in der Pädagogik Einzug: Das Bildungsideal der Selbstorganisation verdrängt den Gedanken der Sozialintegration. An den Grenzen dieses Narrativs kommt die Grundfrage der Sozialpädagogik, wie Individualisierung und Gemeinsinn zusammengedacht werden können, neu auf und verlangt nach einer pädagogischen Lesart von Selbstverwirklichung. Ausgehend von dieser Fragestellung folgt die Arbeit einem dreischrittigen Vorgehen: Einführend wird der Begriff Selbstverwirklichung einer Diskursanalyse unterzogen. Anschließend wird eine Theorieanalyse basierend auf den Werken der Theoretiker:innen Natorp, Dewey, Montessori und Freire durchgeführt. Basierend auf diesen zwei Analyseschritten wird ein pädagogisches Konzept von Selbstverwirklichung aufgestellt, welches im dritten Schritt konkretisiert und geschärft wird. Die Arbeit zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass sie pädagogische Leitvorstellungen offenbart, systematisiert und diskutiert und damit zur stiefkindlich behandelten Diskussion über die Ziele und die Ausgestaltung von Erziehung vor dem Hintergrund eines Selbstverwirklichungsanspruchs beiträgt.

This book contains the first complete translation of the first half of the Pedology of the Adolescent by the Soviet thinker, educator, and teacher L.S. Vygotsky. It was the longest work published in his lifetime and was a correspondence course written by Vygotsky for teachers across the Soviet Union. The book is a sustained argument about the borders of pedology, the nature of the transition between childhood and adulthood, and the concrete character of the distinction between the lower psychological functions that we largely share with animals and those that are specific to fully socialized humans. After an initial methodological introduction, three kinds of maturation—general anatomical, sexual, and sociocultural—are explored. This book will be followed by a companion volume covering pedology of the transitional age as a psychological and social problem.

In this book, we show the replacement of academic and vocational education, which is structured according to subject systems and oriented towards scientific knowledge, by vocational action knowledge. This work process knowledge is the basis for the acquisition of the design competence of vocational specialists, which is becoming increasingly important in the world of work.A modern knowledge concept based on vocational education is developed and documented. In the first part of the book the concept of vocational knowledge is developed, in the second part empirical results from COMET projects are documented, from which the vocational knowledge imparted in different occupations can be read.There has been a confusing discussion about vocational knowledge for decades. In 1991, the KMK agreed on a new concept for vocational education and training with the guiding idea of vocational design competence. It remained open on which vocational knowledge this new guiding idea shouldbe based. Up to now there has been no original vocational pedagogical justification for the vocational knowledge on which vocational design competence is based.

This book explains what Students'Quality Circles (SQC) are, how they function, key constraints and issues in implementation, and possible solutions to make it a valuable co-curricular activity. It showcases how Quality Control Circle (QCC) is reengineered with the sole purpose of prosocial personality development of students at their early age. It is a research outcome which depicts the direction of the education system toward character building rather than only developing knowledge and skills. The logical sequence of presentation of the book is ‘why,'‘what,'and toward the end, ‘how'SQC in education. The book satisfies four hierarchical levels of readers. The first level is of educationists and national policy makers who may take up SQC as an important approach of the education system in their country for prosocial personality development of students and thereby targeting to produce quality citizens in the future. At the second level are chief executives or managers of educationalinstitutes who may identify the potential of SQC approach for developing the positive personality of their students.
