Rural children are seriously afflicted with intestinal helminth infections in China. Of note, the term rural children includes rural left-behind children (LBC) and rural non-left-behind children (NLBC); the difference in the prevalence of intestinal helminths between the 2 groups remains unclear. In this study, Gulin and Xuyong counties in southern Sichuan were chosen for investigation in 2019. The Kato Katz thick smear method was used to detect the presence of intestinal helminth eggs in rural children. For children aged 3–6 yr, the adhesive tape perianal swab method was used to detect Enterobius vermicularis and tapeworm eggs. Statistical differences in infection rates between the 2 groups were determined by the chi-square test. In total, 1,608 rural children, 911 LBC and 697 NLBC, participated in the investigation. Six species of intestinal helminths were detected. A total of 358 (39.3%) and 130 (18.7%) intestinal helminth positives were found among LBC and NLBC, respectively; the former had a higher (P < 0.05) infection level. Moreover, an analysis of double worm infection rates among intestinal helminth positive LBC and NLBC showed a difference between the 2 groups that was also statistically significant. These surveys indicated that the risk of intestinal helminth infection was substantially higher and the severity of infection much worse in rural LBC in southern Sichuan. • The paper quantitatively summarizes the distribution and development of pumping distress using various field and laboratory methods. • The paper adopts GPR techniques to assess the structure of asphalt pavements. • The paper identifies potential causes of the pumping phenomenon. • The paper quantifies the extent and severity of the pumping distress. Pumping distress refers to the phenomenon of dynamic water entering a pavement, soaking the cement concrete layer to form slurry, and being pumped out of the pavement void under the action of traffic loading. Pumping distress is frequently reported in high temperature and rainy regions, such as Sichuan province in China. Various factors contribute to pumping distress on bridge decks, but most of these factors have merely been subjected to qualitative assessment. The aim of the study is to conduct a comprehensive quantitative analysis through three years of field investigations and laboratory experiments. The field investigations include ground penetrating radar (GPR), pavement permeability tests, skid resistance tests, and drainage facilities surveys. The quantitative analysis of the field and laboratory inspections revealed that the formation reason, deterioration rate, and damage degree of pumping distress were different between the truck and emergency lanes. The occurrence of pumping distresses was significantly related to the uneven construction of the bridge deck leveling layer, compaction segregation, and poor drainage. Additionally, the influence of pavement thickness uniformity on pumping distress was evaluated by incorporating GPR techniques. Failure in the waterproof adhesion layer resulted in the barrier between the cement concrete deck and the asphalt mixture breaking, which allowed alkaline sources to move and transfer to the pavement layer easily. The Xigeda formation, widely distributed in southwestern China, is a special semi-diagenetic rock with horizontal bedding，which is mudding in water. In order to study the failure law, catastrophe characteristics and catastrophe mechanism of the interbed type to the surrounding rock and structure of Xigeda formation tunnel, this paper, by means of field investigation, indoor test, numerical simulation, field monitoring and theoretical research, relying on more than ten Xigeda formation tunnels in the Chengdu-Kunming double track railway, analyzes the apparent failure characteristics and catastrophe mechanism of the surrounding rock of Xigeda formation tunnels with different interbed types. The results show that: the catastrophe characteristics of Xigeda formation tunnel have certain water content sensitive area and influence area division of interbed type. The water content of Xigeda formation is 25% - 30% of the catastrophic critical region of Xigeda formation tunnel. In this critical region, the vault of the overlying Xigeda formation tunnel is prone to large deformation, the invert of the underlying Xigeda formation tunnel is prone to large uplift deformation, and the side wall and tunnel face of interlayer Xigeda formation tunnel are prone to large extrusion deformation; when the water content of Xigeda formation is 30%, it becomes a weak layer, and under the effect of interbed, the rock and soil of Xigeda formation are prone to large deformation, resulting in catastrophes by extruding the tunnel structure; based on the analysis of chemical effect, physical effect and mechanical effect, the structural components of interbed rock chemically react with water, leading to weakening of the strength and causing catastrophic effects. The catastrophic effect is similar to that of simply supported beam in the strong and weak regions of the interbed, while the weakening effect of the interlayer structural plane leads to the opening of the interlayer fracture plane of the tunnel surrounding rock and the large interlayer dislocation displacement, which forces the shear failure of the supporting structure. The Wenchuan earthquake occurred in Sichuan Province, China, on May 12, 2008, and caused a large number of secondary geological disasters such as collapses, debris flows, and landslides, as well as extensive damage to local vegetation. The earthquake had an impact on the regional climate, seriously affecting the sustainable development of the regional environment and economy. In this study, the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) was used to characterize the vegetation status, which was calculated from images acquired by the MODIS sensor. Based on the vegetation cover and precipitation of the area affected by the Wenchuan earthquake over about 70 years, in this paper we analyze the characteristics of vegetation changes and their impact on the climate after the earthquake. The results revealed that the above secondary geological disasters caused by the earthquake destroyed vegetation. After the earthquake, NDVI decreased from 0.394 in 2007 to 0.383 on July 1, 2008, and then increased year by year to 0.413 in 2015, except in 2010. During the two years after the earthquake, several large-scale debris flows occurred in this area, damaging the surface vegetation, so the vegetation coverage was low in 2010. The change of the land cover has an indirect impact on the local precipitation. The annual and seasonal (except winter) precipitation trended downward from 1948 to 2018, with an annual average decrease of 1.6069 mm, but trended upward from 2008 to 2018, with an annual average increase of 14.012 mm, after the Wenchuan earthquake, indicating the recovery of vegetation. The increased vegetation promoted regional precipitation, but the interaction mechanism between the vegetation cover and the precipitation is complex. The effect of the vegetation differs in different regions and cannot be generalized. On August 20, 2019, at 2 a.m., a disastrous debris flow occurred in Chediguan gully in Yinxing town, China. The debris flow destroyed the drainage groove and the bridge at the exit of the gully. In addition, the debris flow temporarily blocked the Minjiang River during the flood peak, flooding the Taipingyi hydropower station 200 m upstream and leaving two plant workers missing. To further understand the activity of the debris flow after the Wenchuan earthquake, the characteristics of this debris flow event were studied. Eleven years after the Wenchuan earthquake, a disastrous debris flow still occurred in the Chediguan catchment, causing more severe losses than those of earlier debris flows. In this paper, the formation mechanism and dynamic characteristics of this debris flow event are analysed based on a drone survey, high-definition remote sensing interpretations and other means. The catastrophic debris flow event indicates that debris flows in the Wenchuan earthquake area are still active. A large amount of dredging work in the main gully could effectively reduce the debris flow risk in the gully. In addition, it is also important to repair or rebuild damaged mitigation measures and to establish a real-time monitoring and early warning system for the high-risk gully. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The severe geological and environmental conditions along the Sichuan-Tibet railway easily lead to unfavorable events that place construction safety at risk. To comprehensively identify the risks associated with this project, this paper proposes a novel model-based systems engineering (MBSE) method that employs Department of Defense architecture framework (DoDAF) artifacts. In this method, system modeling is applied to risk management, and model analysis is performed to identify the risks in a project and their related factors. This method is closely related to the engineering process and can be applied to all stages of the entire project life cycle. The Jinjiguan No. 2 tunnel project was taken as a case study to demonstrate the application of this method. The task model, structure view, and activity view of this project were established using Systems Modeling Language (SysML). By analyzing the system behavior deviations that emerged during the engineering activities, the potential major risk events in tunnel construction, including collapse, water gushing, and explosions, were identified. The status and behavior of system components were examined from various perspectives to identify the risk factors that may emerge during tunnel construction. The results showed that the proposed method can efficiently develop system models, capture the structure and behavior of a railway engineering system, and accurately identify the risks faced by the system. Tunnel excavation in mountainous areas can sometimes reactivate or trigger landslides. The problem of tunneling-induced landslides may be influenced by not only the tunnel location and slope geological conditions but also construction deficiency without timely treatment. This paper presents a case study of Jimei landslide in Sichuan Province, China. This dormant landslide was largely induced by the excavation of a twin tunnel in the landslide body. Field investigation, slope movement monitoring, and numerical simulations show that the formation mechanism of the Jimei landslide triggered by tunneling can be summarized as follows: (1) The adverse geological conditions of stratified sliding mass consists of multilayer sliding surfaces and cracked sliding blocks. (2) The rock surrounding the tunnel underwent large and continuous deformation because of construction deficiency without timely treatment. (3) There was a reduction in the shear strength and increase in the bulk density of the sliding mass because of rainfall infiltration during the rainy season. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Sichuan-Chongqing region is the leader and growth pole of economic development in western China. With the rapid development of economy and unique geographical environment, high concentration of sulfur dioxide air pollution has existed for a long time in Sichuan-Chongqing area. Based on 10 years of remote sensing data, this paper studies the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics, stability, and influencing factors of sulfur dioxide in this area. Based on potential sources, the impact of surrounding areas on sulfur dioxide in Sichuan and Chongqing is analyzed. The results shows that the spatial distribution of sulfur dioxide in the Sichuan-Chongqing region is higher in the southeast and lower in the west. The Midwest region has low fluctuation and good stability. The time distribution shows obvious seasonal regularity. The concentration of sulfur dioxide is affected by socio-economic factors and natural factors. In this study, it is found that the distribution of sulfur dioxide is closely related to PM2.5, which provides an important reference for the comprehensive management of air pollution. The OMI data effectively reflects the distribution and change of atmospheric sulfur dioxide in the Sichuan-Chongqing region, and provides certain ideas for air pollution control in the Sichuan-Chongqing region and other regions in China. During the development of complex gas reservoirs, the risk decision-making problem often emerges. Thus, the study on risk assessment is an important tool used to identify potential hazards and create appropriate avoidance measures accordingly. Based on the analysis of seven types of risk factors in gas reservoir development planning, this paper aims to clarify the logical relationship between the risk factors in the strategic planning of natural gas development. The comprehensive research on target risks in the gas reservoir development planning based on stochastic simulation was carried out. The "probability curve scanning method" was used to evaluate objective risk factors, while the decision-making risk factors were evaluated using the "probability curve displacement method." According to the realization probability and dispersion degree of the planned target combined with the risk grade evaluation matrix, the planning target evaluation risk grade was implemented. Moreover, the planning unit risk grade evaluation was obtained at different stages. Regarding the specific production capacity conditions in gas wells (horizontal and vertical wells) and gas reservoir water invasion, the probability method with Monte Carlo stochastic simulation was used to calculate the production and water invasion volumes. The established decision-making risk technology for gas reservoir development, along with the associated supporting procedures, can be used to evaluate the risks of reservoir development planning, production, and water invasion. "Gutter oil" is a term for the practice of recycling used waste oil from restaurant fryers, sinks, and even slaughterhouses and sewers, and has been a major food safety and sanitation issue in China for many years. However, with proper treatment, these issues can be mitigated, turning large amounts of waste product into valuable resources and conserving energy resources. Based on this questionnaire survey conducted in the cities of Chengdu and Mianyang in Sichuan, China, this paper uses the value evaluation method to measure urban residents' willingness to pay for the treatment of gutter oil, and explores the factors and path influencing residents' willingness to pay based on the extended theory of planned behavior. The results of this study affirms the validity and universality of the Theory of Planned Behavior. Behavioral attitude, perceived behavioral control, and subjective norms have a direct positive impact on their willingness to pay. Risk perception and past experience indirectly affect residents' willingness to pay for gutter oil through the intermediary variable of behavioral attitude, which means that the public's risk awareness can be improved by vigorously publicizing the harmful effects of gutter oil, thereby also increasing acceptance toward gutter oil treatment. As an intermediary variable, subjective norms have a significant indirect effect on the impact path of past experience on willingness to pay, which reflects the significant influence of subjective norms such as reference group and environment. The results show that urban residents have a higher willingness to pay for the treatment of gutter oil. The mean willingness to pay is 7.75 RMB per month per capita. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In its one hundred years of existence, the Communist Party of China has experimented with how to connect its narratives of legitimacy to people's affects. In this essay, I trace the conceptualization of gratitude, from its repudiation in the Mao era as a vestige of feudalism and imperialism to its return in the reform era as a re-verticalization of Party sovereignty. The paper addresses four examples of gratitude work: Politburo Standing Committee member Wang Yang's short-lived critique of gratitude in the name of a different conception of popular sovereignty; the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the Sichuan earthquake as a day of gratitude; the detention of Uyghurs in Xinjiang who are taught to be grateful to the Communist Party in a campaign of religious de-radicalization; and the refusal of gratitude in quarantined Wuhan during the COVID-19 pandemic. In recent years, the requirement for landscaping has become increasingly stringent as large-scale bridge construction continues in China, and a conventional bridge scheme creation process has the disadvantage of having too many factors to consider and being difficult to coordinate and inefficient to collaborate. Faced by the current situation of short scheme creating period, bridge engineers should strengthen their role as designers and be able to perform scheme creation and design independently and efficiently. Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology can provide bridge engineers with advanced technical means and design process. This paper mainly studies how to apply BIM technology to improve the efficiency, cost control and quality of bridge scheme creation, using the Minjiang Bridge in Meishan City, Sichuan Province as an example. From the discussion it can be seen that: (1) the efficiency of scheme creation, presentation and scheme selection can be improved with the aid of the new process and approach together with the Parameterized Scheme Library; (2) the all-in-one process of scheme creation and design led by the bridge designer effectively simplifies communication and iteration; (3) compared with the conventional approach, the new method greatly improves the efficiency and quality of scheme creation. A rainfall-induced catastrophic landslide occurred at UTC + 8 03:50 local time on August 21, 2020, in Zhonghaicun village (N 29°20′30″, E 102°41′40″), Hanyuan County, Sichuan Province, China, resulting in damage to 6 buildings and 9 casualties (7 fatalities and 2 missing). In this paper, multitemporal remote sensing images, comprehensive field investigations, drilling holes, deformation monitoring, and numerical simulations are used to identify the main characteristics and the formation mechanism of the event. The results showed that long-term intensive rainfall in 2020 played an essential role in the failure of the Zhonghaicun landslide and that strong earthquakes in Wenchuan County (Ms 8.0, on 12 May 2008) and Lushan County (Ms 7.0, on 20 April 2013) also exerted a negative influence on the evolution process of this catastrophic landslide. Several traction zones appeared after the occurrence of the landslide. Fortunately, no evident deformation was observed and these slopes were in a stable state. • The paper constructed a RECC calculation method based on the EWM-CPM. • The spatiotemporal characteristics of RECC in resource-based cities. • The relationship between RECC and NEES is deconstructed by the path analysis method. The development of resource-based cities faces with stagnation due to the exhaustion of resources. Scientific and rational characterization of the temporal and spatial characteristics of resource environmental carrying capacity (RECC) is conducive to the sustainable development of these cities. In the present study, 8 resource-based cities in Sichuan Province were used as the research objects. A RECC research framework was constructed based on natural resources, environmental resources, economic resources and social resources dimensions (NEES), and a RECC assessment system was then extracted. This paper constructed a RECC calculation method based on the EWM-CPM (EWM: entropy weight method, CPM: catastrophe progression method). Mean and standard deviation were used for statistical analysis of RECC. The temporal trends of the NEES and RECC of resource-based cities in Sichuan Province were analyzed from the perspective of time, and the dynamic characteristics were analyzed combined with the dynamic evaluation measure model. The spatial pattern of RECC in the resource-based cities in Sichuan Province was analyzed from a spatial perspective. The relationship between NEES and RECC was evaluated through a path analysis method. The research results were as follows: (1) In terms of time, the average value of RECC in the resource-based cities in Sichuan Province was 0.628, and the standard deviation was 0.200, indicating that the stability of RECC in the entire region was poor. Natural resources are the main subsystem of RECC impacts in NEES. From the calculation results of the dynamic evaluation measure model, the level of RECC in PZH (Panzhihua) was stable, and the level of RECC in GA (Guang'an) increased with time, whereas the level of RECC in NC (Nanchong) was poor. (2) In terms of space, the eight resource-based cities showed uneven development in regard to RECC from 2010 to 2019, and the urban advantageous industries were related to the types of resources in the NEES. (3) The path analysis method results indicated that the directional impact of natural resources on RECC was the highest (0.658), followed by the effect of social resources, environmental resources and economic resources. The findings of the present study provide a basis for the establishment of methods for the sustainable development of urban areas, effective information extraction and the integrated assessment of factors that affect the development of resource-based cities. Due to the instability of extracting elastic parameters from conventional elastic impedance variation with incident angle (EVA) pre-stack inversion and the fact that single-trace inversion does not consider the correlation between seismic traces and the lateral continuity of inversion results. An anisotropic total variation multitrace inversion method based on the L P norm constraint is proposed on the basis of EVA inversion. In this paper, the L P norm is used as the regularization constraint, the longitudinal and transverse difference operators are introduced, and the alternating direction multiplier algorithm and the 2D Sylvester equation solver algorithm are used as inversion algorithms to achieve a multitrace inversion of the elastic parameters. The feasibility of the method proposed in this paper is verified by making full use of the advantages of both methods and conducting trial calculations on some blocks of the Marmousi2 model. The method was further validated by applying it to actual data from marine shales of the Longmaxi-Wufeng Formation in the southern Sichuan Basin. The inversion results were validated using a combination of brittleness indices and microseismic monitoring to confirm the feasibility of the method in this paper. •Proposed anisotropic total variation multitrace inversion method based on Lp norm. •Multitrace inversions enhance the lateral continuity of inversion results. •Different noise tests demonstrate the noise immunity of the inversion method. •Validation of the method with brittleness index and microseismic events. The total organic carbon content (TOC) is a core indicator for shale gas reservoir evaluations. Machine learning-based models can quickly and accurately predict TOC, which is of great significance for the production of shale gas. Based on conventional logs, the measured TOC values, and other data of 9 typical wells in the Jiaoshiba area of the Sichuan Basin, this paper performed a Bayesian linear regression and applied a random forest machine learning model to predict TOC values of the shale from the Wufeng Formation and the lower part of the Longmaxi Formation. The results showed that the TOC value prediction accuracy was improved by more than 50% by using the well-trained machine learning models compared with the traditional Δ Log R method in an overmature and tight shale. Using the halving random search cross-validation method to optimize hyperparameters can greatly improve the speed of building the model. Furthermore, excluding the factors that affect the log value other than the TOC and taking the corrected data as input data for training could improve the prediction accuracy of the random forest model by approximately 5%. Data can be easily updated with machine learning models, which is of primary importance for improving the efficiency of shale gas exploration and development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation in the southern Sichuan Basin is composed of a series of dark carbonaceous shales deposited in a hydrostatic shelf reduction environment. In this study, the ratio of uranium to thorium (U/Th), the total organic carbon (TOC), and the biological silicon content (SiBio) were selected as the characteristic parameters to precisely analyze the sedimentary environment and its impact on reservoir quality. The results show that the Weiyuan area in the Early Silurian Longmaxi period experienced two transgression-regression cycles, forming two third-class sequences, SSQ1 and SSQ2, which can be divided into six sedimentary microfacies: organic-rich siliceous argillaceous shelf, organic-rich silicon-containing argillaceous shelf, organic-rich silty argillaceous shelf, deep-water silty argillaceous shelf, shallow-water silty argillaceous shelf, and shallow-water argillaceous silty shelf microfacies. The organic-rich siliceous argillaceous shelf and organic-rich silicon-containing argillaceous shelf microfacies developed in the deepest transgressive system tract (TST1), with high U/Th, high TOC, and high SiBio, which are identified as the main control facies for reservoir development. These two microfacies are located in the middle of the study area, while a transition occurs in the east affected by the Neijiang Uplift. According to the classification criteria proposed in this article, the favourable shale gas reservoirs in Weiyuan area are characterized with high U/Th (>1.25), high TOC (>3%), and high SiBio (>15%). This paper proposed an evaluation method for shale sedimentary facies based on elemental and electrical logging characteristics, avoiding the limitations of core samples, which makes the quantitative division of shale sediments and the efficient recognition of high-quality reservoirs available. In the context of the mid-late development of China's urbanization, promoting sustainable urban development and giving full play to urban potential have become a social focus, which is of enormous practical significance for the study of urban spatial pattern. Based on such Internet data as a map's Point of Interest (POI), this paper studies the spatial distribution pattern and clustering characteristics of POIs of four categories of service facilities in Chengdu of Sichuan Province, including catering, shopping, transportation, scientific, educational, and cultural services, by means of spatial data mining technologies such as dimensional autocorrelation analysis and DBSCAN clustering. Global spatial autocorrelation is used to study the correlation between an index of a certain element and itself (univariate) or another index of an adjacent element (bivariate); partial spatial autocorrelation is used to identify characteristics of spatial clustering or spatial anomaly distribution of geographical elements. DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) is able to detect clusters of any shape without prior knowledge. The final step is to carry out quantitative analysis and reveal the distribution characteristics and coupling effects of spatial patterns. According to the results, (1) the spatial distribution of POIs of all service facilities is significantly polarized, as they are concentrated in the old city, and the trend of suburbanization is indistinctive, showing three characteristics, namely, central driving, traffic accessibility, and dependence on population activity; (2) the spatial distribution of POIs of the four categories of service facilities is featured by the pattern of "one center, multiple clusters," where "one center" mainly covers the area within the first ring road and partial region between the first ring road and the third ring road, while "multiple clusters" are mainly distributed in the well-developed areas in the second circle of Chengdu, such as Wenjiang District and Shuangliu District; and (3) there is a significant correlation between any two categories of POIs. Highly mixed multifunctional areas are mainly distributed in the urban center, while service industry is less aggregated in urban fringe areas, and most of them are single-functional or dual-functional regions. Check dams, which mitigate debris flow hazards, have been widely applied in mountainous areas. Usually, it is difficult to assess the effectiveness of these mitigation works. With the use of numerical simulation, considering the influence of dynamic processes and fine-particle cohesion, the variation in characteristic parameters when viscous debris flows pass through dams can be calculated accurately. In this paper, a new method for quantitative assessment of check dams against viscous debris flow is proposed. Based on the two-phase flow theory of viscous debris flows, considering the effect of solid and liquid frictional gradients, the influence of dynamic processes, and fine-particle cohesion, a flow simulation model of viscous debris flows is established. To facilitate engineering applications, with this model adopted as a theoretical basis, a debris flow graphical user interface (GUI) simulation tool, i.e., Debrisflow 1.0, is developed in Visual Basic.NET on the Microsoft Visual Studio (VS) platform. Moreover, the Yinxingping gully in the Yinxing Township, Wenchuan County, Sichuan Province, China, is selected as an example. Debrisflow 1.0 is employed to simulate the dynamic processes of debris flows, such as silting behind the dam and overflowing of the dam, and the control effect of an existing check dam is quantitatively assessed. The results show that the discharge control efficiency of the existing check dam is 47.51%, and combined with an analysis of observations of the mitigation works during different periods, a problem is identified regarding the insufficient storage capacity design of the check dam in the Yinxingping gully. Although the atmospheric compensation models developed to date have been generally robust and effective for InSAR, how to choose the right atmospheric correction method for ground-based InSAR is worth studying. This paper uses different methods for atmospheric phase screen (APS) compensation based on studies of ground-based radar (GBR) to zero-baseline acquisitions over the Woda landslide in Sichuan, China. This landslide has a steep topography, thick fog, turbulent rivers and strong rains. Data were acquired at the Ku-band using a GAMMA Portable Radar Interferometer II (GPRI-II) in multiple campaigns (4 July 2019–13 July 2019). In 2019, the Miyun open-pit mine was also studied; the maximum deformation reached 4.03 mm/hour. The collected data were processed within one unit based on the small baseline set (SBAS) approach. The experimental results show the following (1) For long-distance monitoring with complex atmospheric disturbances, range- and/or height-dependent models fail. (2) The iterative decomposition (ITD) method can effectively address complex atmospheric disturbances. This paper is mainly concerned with the development and design of a reduced order model in numerical simulation of the unsteady temperature field of the stadium building foundation in frozen areas, based the finite element (FE) method and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) with the snapshot technique. We first derive the standard FE formulation of the unsteady temperature field and compute its FE full solutions, from which we choose a few spatio‐temporal solutions as snapshots. Based on POD technique, we then build a set of optimal POD bases maximizing the energy content in the original ensemble data, and in the new space spanned by the POD basis, we establish a low‐order numerical model of reduced‐order finite element (ROFE) formulation of the unsteady temperature field. And we prove the error estimates of the ROFE solutions of the unsteady temperature field. Finally, numerical tests are provided to simulate the temperature field of crushed stone clay under the natural pavement near the foundation of a stadium building in a frozen soil area of the northwest of Sichuan province in China. Cracks and pores coexist in carbonate reservoirs, and this complex pore structure has a significant impact on acoustic and resistivity logging. Making full use of acoustic and electrical well logging data can help to identify carbonate gas reservoirs. First, this paper studies the controlling effects of different lithologies on the acoustic velocity according to the elastic theory of porous and fractured media based on joint acoustic-resistivity rock physics measurement experiments. At the same time, a theoretical gas-bearing reservoir identification template is established based on acoustic experimental data, and the gas-bearing reservoir identification template is used to qualitatively identify a gas reservoir. Then, the empirical relationship between the acoustic velocity and resistivity is derived based on the Archie equation. It is found that the formation P-wave velocity and resistivity have a power function relationship in the research area. Based on the above research, a quantitative identification template for gas-bearing reservoirs is established. The case study has verified the reliability of the gas-bearing carbonate reservoir identification method based on the above two methods. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Based on bias-corrected future projections from the Providing REgional Climates for Impacts Studies (PRECIS) regional climate model under both RCP4.5 and 8.5 scenarios over China, extreme climatic events at the middle and end of the twenty-first century are investigated in this paper. The model performance of PRECIS is validated using comparisons with observations and HadGEM2-ES projections, and the bias correction adds fidelity to the projections of basic climate variables and extreme climate events. In the future, our single-realisation estimates show that the number of frost days is projected to decrease and days with tropical nights are projected to increase. Including northeast China, Sichuan Basin, middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River and south China, the number of consecutive dry days will increase from our single-realisation estimates, which will exhibit a spatial distribution almost similar to that of consecutive wet days in the coming decades. Although precipitation indices associated with duration will increase, a simple precipitation index depicting the intensity of extreme events will decrease over east and south China in the future from our single-realisation projections. Daily rainfall above 50 mm, which is usually regarded as a rainstorm event, is predicted to increase under the RCP4.5 scenario over most of China from our single-realisation estimates; while the same change pattern will occur in southernmost China, similarly spatially distributed for the RCP8.5 scenario, the number of rainstorm will first increase in the middle of the twenty-first century and then slow at the end of the twenty-first century in the Yangtze River region. In conclusion, our single-realisation estimates indicate that the persistence of extreme precipitation will increase with time, but the change of extreme precipitation intensity is not significant in the future. The comparison of climatic extreme events under the RCP4.5 scenario with those under the RCP8.5 scenario shows that extreme climate events will be enhanced under the higher emissions scenario; hence, reductions in greenhouse gas emissions will help alleviate climate change effects in the future.
