Internet is becoming an important phenomenon in Italy, both from a social and froma an economical point of view: each month and week new websites appear, all defined portals. It is interesting to verify if, in a future evolution of Italian web, will prevail a tendence to build close and to-be-read portals.

The current investigation assesses research productivity within the Journal of Family Business Management, employing various bibliometric indicators. A total of 393 scientific publications, spanning the period from 2011 to 2023, were retrieved from the Scopus database through relevant keyword searches. The findings are presented in both tabular and graphical formats. Additionally, the study utilizes the VOSviewer© tool to conduct network visualization, exploring collaboration and relationships among authors, co-authors, countries, institutions, co-occurrence of keywords, and co-citation of cited references in the field of FBM.The results highlight a noticeable upward trend in publication activity over the past 13 years, with 393 scientific publications yielding 4008 citations and an average of 10.69 citations per publication. The United States and the United Kingdom emerge as the most prolific countries in publishing research within the field, while Australia and the United Kingdom produce the highest number of prolific authors. La Trobe Business School, Queen Margaret University, and Niccolò Cusano University are identified as the top three productive organizations contributing to the Journal of Family Business Management.The network visualization analysis further reveals collaborative efforts among authors, countries, and organizations. Co-occurrence of keywords is reported, with terms such as family business, family firms, succession planning, and entrepreneurship standing out as frequently used keywords with significant link strength. These findings provide valuable insights into the landscape of research in family business management.

The rapid technological changes in cartographical applications and information systems favoured the widespread use of geographical information in human’s everyday life. Map/ GIS libraries maintain a variety of materials in print and electronic form while offering a range of services to their users, -experts and/or not - in order to meet their various information needs. The continuous spread of digital cartography along with the complex approaches to the analysis of geospatial data both in academia and in the daily life of the citizens requires ensuring the correct and maximum use of geo-library collections. Additionally, the incorporation of technology and services in the library daily work affect how librarians keep up with the instruction and training they provide to their users. User education and the development of information literacy programs in libraries is not a new concept, but it is a long-standing, and a traditional component of their function. According to ALA (1989) to be information literate, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate and use effectively the needed information. The purpose of this paper is to raise awareness amongst librarians in their involvement in user’s education programs and in communicating their geo-collections. The paper examines concepts and definitions related to user education, explores how significant Map/GIS libraries approach information literacy and what methods are used for this achievement to be accomplished. Furthermore, the paper underlines the role of the Map/GIS librarian and the necessary skills that he/she must have in order to successfully fulfil his educational duties.

Hellenic Economic Library Network (HE.LI.N.) is one of the collaborative networks that have been developed among the Greek librarian community. It owes its creation to the period of the economic crisis, when an immediate need for synergies arose. During its operation it has carried out, and continues to plan, and implement important actions, as a result of its gradual maturation towards the achievement of common goals and the successful communication of its members in terms of managing various issues derived from the participation in a cooperative scheme. This work is a review of the networks’ eleven-year activity, as demonstrated by the results of a survey carried out in July 2023 addressed to the library staff in Greece and Cyprus, regarding the skills of employees in libraries and information centers and the contribution of HE.LI.N. in their improvement. Responses to the research questions are consultation points between the network members and a source of ideas for future actions, aiming to a sustainable development and innovation.

This study aims to examine audio-visual OER from National Repositories in India by exploring its utilization patterns and analyze common OER formats. Data was collected from five major national repositories in India. A total of 125 videos were randomly selected, and 25 audio files from the period 2017-2022 were exclusively downloaded from NDLI. Findings revealed a significant collection of audio-visual OER with various formats. The study is limited to selected repositories and sample size, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. Despite these, the findings are valuable. The analysis of audio files indicates that the most common audio format is “MP2/3,” the codec used is “PCM,” the bit rate is “128.0 Kbits/sec,” the duration ranges from 1 to 4 minutes, and the file size varies from 1 to 5 MB.

With the advent of globalization, there has been an explosion of information in every sphere of life. Various new electronic gadgets emerged to make information accessible anytime and anywhere. ICT has made our daily lives by profoundly altering our social interactions, affecting our social bonds. As the android smartphone environment has changed the picture of connectivity between people, their engagement with the world has been connected through these small screens. As libraries are service-based institutions for satisfying the information needs of end users through different means. Nowadays libraries are also adapting these different mediums and technologies to cater the information needs of their users efficiently and effectively. This paper will focus on different services provided through smartphones and the use of smartphones for outreach services. The study will raise awareness about the importance of smartphones for implementing various library and information services

The purpose of the paper is to provide a detailed description of the academic research scene and scientific communication, in a more general sense, as it has been shaped nowadays, taking into account their constant growth. This growth is studied both in terms of the impact that technological developments and the Open Access movement have on scholarly research. In regards to that, the paper presents the tools, the services and the procedures of the libraries and/or other organizations which, when properly used within the academic space, can facilitate the researcher’s work. In this constantly evolving context of the scholarly production model, the highly active role and nature of the academic library is examined, playing a central role in the guidance and support of scholarly production. The paper also emphasizes the different kinds of collaborations with other organizations and units that could be developed by the academic library, especially within the academic institution, but also within the academic space in general, as well as activities that could be carried out. In addition, a reference is made to the necessary skills that the librarian is required to have, to support all the above as effectively as possible. Finally, suggestions are made for the adoption of good practices by libraries, in order to help enhance the improved pace of researchers in the use of the tools and services offered.

Policies implementation has always affected Map/GIS libraries. Those policies influence their operation and determine the type and level of the provided services. The conduction of a collaborative partnership among libraries can considered as a policy action, a characteristic that indicates their dynamic nature. Recently, the global financial crisis engaged libraries to develop synergies in order to achieve benefits for their users. Although Greek libraries have significant geographical collections, of both contemporary and cultural heritage maps, the public and private sectors create and publish large sets of geospatial data, the patrons finds difficulties in accessing and using the appropriate material. Surveys, in particular, highlight the discomfort of geographical information users about the collections and services offered by libraries. Meanwhile, librarians in Greece appear to be unable to adequately guide their users to the proper geographical sources and tools to process the geographical data they need. This paper, points out the importance of collaborations towards an organized development of geographical collections using as a case study the Greek academic libraries. More specifically, there are academic libraries that serve departments where geographic information is an essential component of the educational and research process. Those particular libraries have built coordinated collaborative efforts regarding the organization, development and dissemination of their collections. The aforementioned collaborations displayed in the present study. Additionally, the paper will present the main purpose of the collaboration movement, the basic principles that underpin it, the achievements that the members managed to succeed and its future activities.

The scientific activity of the network of educational libraries is considered through the prism of the normative component of informational and bibliographic provision of education, pedagogy and psychology; the perspective of the scientific significance of the concept of "educational libraries" in regulatory and legislative documents is emphasized.

The semantic field of the problem of the current applied research "Educational libraries as a subject of designing an educational environment in conditions of digitalization" (2023–2025) was considered in the system of concepts "computer-oriented pedagogical systems", "distance and mixed learning technologies", "digital educational resources and teaching aids" taking into account the methodological foundations of interdisciplinary research.

The purpose of this paper is to research and define the promising worldwide scientific trends in the field of railway transportation of various dangerous goods. To obtain relevant empirical data, the authors reviewed the world literature on paper topic using Scopus and Web of Science citation bases. We determined that this research was focused on several major thematic areas: 1) automation and telematics systems; 2) navigation systems; 3) logistics; 4) energy; 5) locomotives; 6) freight cars; 7) materials; 8) rails; 9) impact on the environment and people. The article used mapping, ensuring a visual perspective for researchers and helping to understand general situations in specific subject areas of the research. This study provides useful information concerning the development of the field of research for the railway transportation of dangerous goods, identifying those academics (authors, countries and institutions) that have made the greatest contribution to its development and defining the priority research directions

Geographical information is an important type of information, related to citizens’ daily activities, as well as to issues of the wider working and living environment in which they live and work. This makes geographic information a commodity of high economic and political value, which further supports a large number of government services to the citizen. Although academic libraries have been demonstrating operational innovations and actions in the past years, only a limited number sustain geographical collections and services. At the same time, librarians do not use maps and geospatial data, while they seem unable to identify potential GIS needs in their institution. As a result, they do not follow a management strategy for GIS while largely ignore the production of geospatial data by their academic community. The aforementioned above, as a consequence are also reflected to the users’ habits, which have turned to the internet since they consider Greek libraries as insufficient for covering their geo-informational needs. These data acted as a trigger for action for academic libraries, assisted by the National Library of Greece as well, with academic departments for which geographic information is an educational and research priority. Thus, in addition to justifying the importance of geographical information, the paper will present the Geographic Libraries Group to the wider library community and will describe the objectives that led to its establishment. Finally, the actions of cooperation achieved at both organizational and target levels will be noted.

The General Athanasios Daskarolis is one of the unsung officers of the Greek Army in whose long military career Asia Minor Campaign is included as well. After his family decision, and through the intervention of a Harokopio’s University Geography Department faculty member, a collection of 15 military maps of this significant Greek history period, were donated to the Library and Information Center. The maps remained in obscurity for a long time till the time that Library was funded from the European Project “Digital Govergence”. Thus, Library had the opportunity to upgrade the Institutional Repository “ESTIA”. In this context and in order to develop the infrastructure for the exploitation of its cartographic material, Library integrated the organization, processing and dissemination of the General’s A. Daskarolis military maps collection with the ultimate aim of preserving this valuable historical material and promoting it under open access to the wide public. The purpose of this paper is to describe both the collection’s maps and the digitization process used by the Library for their management. Additionally, General’s A. Daskarolis brief biography will be mentioned, while the future actions that should be taken in order to promote more effectively the geographical information derived from these printed documents to the general public, will be highlighted.

Library catalogs in any medium have always been the means par excellence of accessibility to the collection of said institutions and a possible way for the necessary control of authorities determined by the scientific-technical production of their authors, currently favored by the systems of search and retrieval of information provided by new technologies. This work presents solutions to the normalization problems that currently have some entries in the Library “Prof. Dr. José Arce ”from the School of Dentistry, University of Buenos Aires (hereinafter, UBA) in some personal names of dental authors, focusing more precisely on the sources of information necessary and used to help detect their correct normalization within the control of authorities, in order to boost technical services in Argentine libraries specialized in the subject and contribute to the necessary National Bibliographic Control through cooperation.

This paper reviews the study and use of the Wikipedia category system in the scientific research, adopting a systematic literature review approach, but considering the qualitative review of the content of a set of selected papers. Several types of work are identified, depending on the intrinsic study of the category system, or its use as a tool for the analysis of other documentary corpus other than Wikipedia. We conclude that the system of categories offers a valid classification scheme for different approaches and studies on the organization of knowledge in multiple contexts.

Industry 4.0 is a frontier topic of knowledge and is inserted into the innovation ecosystem thanks to the inclusion of information and communication technologies, supported by the cyber-physical systems and internet of things applied to industrial processes. The 4th Industrial Revolution describes the set of continuous transformations in the systems that surround us, it is also known as industry 4.0 and in the last five years, it has become a primary issue in the industrial economy. Industry 4.0 makes possible high potential scenarios in the industry, allows the disruption of a new industrial model. The convergence of new technologies transform sectors and markets, and the digitization of companies represents a radical change in the way of doing business. Mining is one of the sectors that have been supported with technologies associated with industry 4.0; these technologies have promoted the conditions for making strategic decisions using intelligent processes whose objectives are the digitization of the mining process and consolidation of the competitive position in the sector. This article links the concept of Industry 4.0 with that of Mining 4.0, it focuses on the discussion of trends, challenges, opportunities and technologies that the mining sector requires to successfully face them.

The development of Institutional Repositories (IRs) in the last decade has strengthened gray’s literature gathering in academic institutions while at the same time has contributed to the emergence and diffusion of a significant number of collections with cultural content. Continuous changes in academic publishing create new opportunities for academic institutions to provide added value services, utilizing locally produced data, upgrading that way the role of both the institution and its members. In this paper we will present the results of a research addressed to Map/GIS Librarians in western world regarding the development of geospatial collections from locally produced data. The purpose of the survey was to investigate whether Map/GIS Librarians have responded to the new influences of the electronic environment taking advantage of IRs in order to develop innovative geospatial collections from the data produced by their members. Results highlight policies, open access and cooperation as determinants for the formulation of such collections while the point of view of these specialists is of great interest as to how they conceive the development and management of geospatial collections in the modern information environment.

The quality of a library is identified by its competent staff, dynamic services, and updated resources. The human resources working in the Library and Information Centre are needed to enhance their personal as well as professional level skills and competence for effective delivery of library and information services. The present study discusses on the concept, method, and levels of Capacity Building Programs for library professionals in library and information centres. Further the study discusses on need of capacity building programs and throws lights on some major challenges persist with it.

Academic libraries operate as a “hub” for transferring knowledge from universities to society, providing additional motives for action. The outreach shown by academic libraries has recently focused on their efforts to interact with the existing local communities beyond the traditional functions addressed for their users. Thus, the role of the library has expanded as academic librarians are taking advantage of opportunities for new collaborations both within and outside of their academic community, based on the recognition that libraries' can also be a partner in education and research "and not just a place to study or a repository”. The presentation will briefly outline the current state of academic libraries and highlight the knowledge transfer and outreach. Emphasizing academic libraries long experience in collaborations and referring to the existing collaborative schemes that have been formed in the Greek librarianship community, the presentation aims to address the factors that determine their interaction with local communities, while will focus on the actions they can take on a local network development to enhance their active role in knowledge sharing and social well-being.

At the end of the 19th century, a small number of German-speaking Central European researchers began to show great interest in the study of Arab paper. Their investigations remain little known in Spain and Portugal because they are difficult to consult and because many have not been translated. The work of professors Julius Wiesner and Joseph von Karabacek, who published their discoveries according to analytic methods, stands out from among these studies. The results of their research constitute the fundamental pillar of scholarship in this field. The strategic geographical position of the Iberian Peninsula and the presence of Islam on her soil during the Middle Ages turned Iberia into a key reception point for papermaking techniques and ultimately into a center of production for this material, which was essential to the transmission of knowledge of Arab cultures to Medieval Europe. Hence our interest in expanding the knowledge of the scientific work of these two researchers in our language.

Changes in scholarly publishing along with the rapid developments in technology are affecting user expectations and forcing academic libraries to significant changes in providing access to geospatial data and develop new services. Institutional Repositories (IRs) are considered effective tools for showcasing an organization’s scientific research by making it publicly available. The aim of this study was to determine the awareness of the development of locally produced geospatial data in an institutional repository, among the Map/GIS libraries of the western world. Anonymous survey of 56 questions, divided in 6 sections and covering several topics, was sent to Map/GIS libraries, members of Map and Libraries’ Organizations of western world. The survey took place on July and October 2015 after two phases of pilot distribution. Out of 382 questionnaires we sent, a total of 80 were finally adequate to be used. This paper will present those results related with the collection of geospatial data in the IR (36 responses) produced by the members of library’s academic community. The responses showed a statistically significant trend to the development of a locally produced geospatial data collection in the IR, although the annual budget is considered by the Map/GIS Librarians as “not at all satisfying” while in majority respondents indicate the use of policies for the locally produced geospatial data collection in the repository. As the three most important issues for this collection, respondents indicate: 1. data and metadata 2. policies and 3. finance. The development of a geospatial data collection is rather complex particularly with respect to issues related to organizational challenges and use practices, therefore, Map/GIS Librarians seem to be convinced that the formulation of policies, the open access to the data will be the critical points to accomplish a beneficial collection of the locally produced geospatial data in the IR.

The need for librarians to acquire new competencies was emphasized. Components of success made possible by interaction of “Library – Researchers” through the DNURT Library example were considered".

The aim of this paper is to provide a general framework about information sources on job vacancies for information managers. That is, a basic guide to an active and efficient job searches. As a final product, both description and classification of these resources, and some recommendations for their use are provided. To do this, different names of the information professional were analyzed. Then, by using these names, the Google search engine and previous knowledge, a number of online resources for searching job opportunities in the field of information and documentation were also analyzed and described. Some of them are well known by specialist workers as part of their educational and professional experience. After that, these resources were classified using various criteria, which facilitated a better understanding of them. By observing these resources, job offers, as well as how they were published on Internet, some observations regarding the operation and characteristics of the analyzed resources were shown. Finally, some recommendations on the use of these resources, which give preference to certain resources, notifications and alerts by e-mail, were shown. In this way, some tasks on job search could be automated, avoiding the overload of work and saving time for job seekers, gaining in efficiency.

The broad aim of the paper is to examine how emerging digital behaviours are challenging and, perhaps, changing concepts of trust and authority in the scholarly world. How researchers assign and calibrate authority and trustworthiness to the scholarly sources and channels they choose to use, cite and publish is discussed. Sources/channels like journals, websites, datasets, and social media. In particular how researchers are coping in today’s crowded, dynamic, diverse and dis-intermediated digital scholarly environment where it is ever more difficult to establish the quality, veracity, authorship and authority of information is looked at. Examining also whether the growth in the use of social media and open access publications for scholarly purposes impacts on conventional practices of establishing the authority and trustworthiness of information sources and channels. The overall study is international, although the emphasis of this paper is on the situation in the USA and UK and the study also focuses mainly on science and social science. Three methodologies (focus groups, critical incident interviews and questionnaires) were used in the broader study, but here we concentrate on the results of the focus groups, the first methodology to be employed. The findings show that the traditional trust measures – peer-reviewed journals, impact factors and personal knowledge and networks – are still very much in place, although social media is making some headway with early career researchers.

We present the work of adaptation to the OpenAIRE guidelines that have been carried out at the Arias Montano Repository of the University of Huelva. OpenAIRE 1 and Open Aire 3 compatibility aand the recently achieved adaptation to OpenAire 4.0 are described. Of importance at the present time, the communication will emphasize the adaptation to OpenAire 4.0 of Arias Montano, one of the first repositories (possibly the first) that achieved the adaptation to OpenAire 4.0, only one month after the approval of the guidelines in November 2018 The project included the OAI-PMH exposure of the ORCID author identifiers, the use of new metadata based on COAR vocabularies, typologies, rights and version control, among other actions that will be described in the communication.

The objective of the OpenGLAM movement is the publication, under free licenses, of digitized cultural material. Cultural institutions (museums, libraries and archives) are key actors for the access and dissemination of cultural heritage. This text explains the foundations, planning and activities carried out in the GLAMing Madrid project, in which Wikimedia Spain participated, together with the National Archaeological Museum, the Museum of Romanticism and the Costume Museum. Finally, the results obtained and the good practices identified are indicated.

The Open Access movement has become a powerful catalyst for the transformation of the DNURT Library activities in the field of creation, organization, use and distribution of digital resources. The following projects have been implemented and are being developed: support of eaDNURT institutional repository, open access scientific journals, open conference platforms, digitizing of rare publications on the rail transport history (1870-1940), information literacy classes; search for educational and scientific network industry resources and their reflection in the e-catalog, creation of video poetry.

The paper gives a general overview of electronic information resources and highlights the advantages of providing access to the electronic resources to the users of the higher education system and made some suggestions for its best use. The author indicates that the electronic documents can be stored, accessed, and delivered as and when required, therefore the information services are not confined within the walls but are integrated into local, regional, national, international networks.

The paper formulates concept "Service center of the University Library". It highlights activities of two new centers at the library of DNURT that cover services which today are mostly demanded by scientific community of the university. Meeting the needs of scientists by Service Center of Scientific Publications and Center of Information Analytics is an indication of a new evolution surge of library services.

Most of the dissertations from Indian universities are prepared in Indian languages. Hence without digital library packages that can process Indian scripts, full text retrieval or piracy checking will not be possible. Existing popular international packages can process only scripts of international languages. Packages that can process Indian local scripts can be developed only indigenously. The only successfully tested package in this respect is Nithya D Arch, the software used for digitizing PhD theses of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala. The language technology adopted in this package is one of the key factors that can contribute to Open Access and Piracy Checking in Indian research environment. It is a unique venture among the initiatives for Open Access and quality control of research in Indian scenario. This paper evaluates the status of ETD archives in India in the above context with special reference to Mahatma Gandhi University’s open access digital archive of PhD Theses.

The emergence of Google Scholar in 2004 revolutioned both the search process academic information and the scientific assessment (especially in the areas of Social sciences and Humanities) thanks to its huge database based on gathering any online academic document, despite the errors and inaccuracies in the correct citation assignment. This paper presents the development of different metric information products made from Google Scholar (H Index Scholar, Publishers Scholar Metrics, Journal Scholar Metrics, and the Spanish Librarianship according to Google Scholar Citations) in order to show the potential and usefulness of this database to be used by the different actors involved in the creation, dissemination and evaluation of scientific activity.

The International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) area 0 was first included in the ISBD Consolidated Edition published in July 2011, replacing the General Material Designation. This paper describes briefly the background of area 0 and the reasons that led to its creation. Also, it details the structure, elements and usage examples, and analyses its compatibility with MARC format, with RDA vocabularies and with FRBR conceptual model. Finally, in relation to the creation of this new area and its application to the current variety of existing bibliographic resources, this paper reflects about the change of paradigm in cataloging and the challenges in teaching cataloging of non-book bibliographic materials.

Information is a major resource to the functioning and survival of organizations. Today, in the top of value creation we find the intangible assets based on information and knowledge. In the actual economy, richness is created based on value from knowledge and innovative ideas. Organizations need information to compete in the global environment, to innovate and obtain competitive advantages in their activities. There are about 350 academic research units financed by the Science and Technology Foundation (STF) of the Science, Technology and Superior Education. The grants depend on external evaluation. This work paper analyzes and characterizes the academic research centers with special focus on Science, Technology and Medicine. Those are the principal creators of scientific and technical knowledge in Portugal, pushing business creation and being engines of social and economical development. We checked the data regarding 2007 evaluation from the STF and developed a questionnaire to understand the information sources used in R&D in Portugal. We found that Internet and WWW became the principal platform to access information by researchers, except for technical books that continue to be preferred in paper format.

In the last 20 years there have been big changes in the Portuguese academic libraries services as academic libraries over the world. These changes include the adoption of automatic catalogues and the electronic access to bibliographic data bases and scientific journals in full text. Nowadays physical and digital sources are together. Professors, students and researchers are able to access simultaneous to a great amount of quality information pay and open access. The Portuguese Government has been investing to improve the access to the production of knowledge so as to develop the country. It is important to know the return on the investments in university libraries. The purpose of this paper is to identify the impact of the electronic sources in the Portuguese academic libraries. This paper describes an ongoing project to assess: •The use of electronic scientific information and the correlation to the scientific production of the Portuguese academic community according to standard performance measures indicators and bibliometrics data. •The economic value of these library services. In order to estimate in monetary terms the value of these services for end-users we use the contingent valuation method (CVM).This study reports the results of a quantitative e-survey of academic community.

The intensifying competition among Chinese-language newspapers in North America was recently brought to spotlight by mainstream media. For well over a century, North America based Chinese newspapers have been informing generations of immigrants and documenting their collective and personal experiences. The steady flow of Chinese speaking population into the U.S. and Canada over the last several decades has created opportunities for this type of publication to expand and proliferate, which in turn poses challenges to library community in respect to collection development and preservation. After giving a brief outline of the history of Chinese-language press in both Canada and U.S., this paper will discuss the identity of this type of press, which is a particularly acute question in the context of U.S. A researcher who conducted two surveys in the U.S. in 1987 and 1997 concludes that it is Chinese American, while a campaign aid for Senator Hilary Clinton reportedly declared that it is “foreign media” when trying to prevent reporters from entering Clinton’s fundraiser in San Francisco in early 2007. By contrast, this author tends to believe that the identity of Chinese press has changed over time and is more fluid today. The next focus of this paper is the current status of Chinese newspapers in North America. Using information from this author's own investigation and media reports, the paper will provide an account of Chinese newspapers in two regions with largest Chinese communities—Toronto and New York-New Jersey. Both the prominent daily newspapers and small weeklies distributed in the supermarkets will be discussed in terms of their editorial policies, circulation numbers, distribution channels, web presences, and availability (or the lack of) in the libraries. For different types of libraries, the challenges for collecting and preserving North America-based Chinese newspapers are somewhat different. A state library may have public mandate to do so, but may lack the language expertise required. Even though an academic library may possess such expertise, it may be restricted by its current curriculum focus. Therefore, a state-wide or even nation-wide collaboration needs to be developed in order to collect these newspapers and ultimately preserve a unique portion of human experience.

This paper explores the main features of e-LIS; one of global level subject-based open access archive on Library and Information Sciences, and discusses the potential of obtaining E-LIS experiences to form a national level e-repository of scientific and scholarly resources in Sri Lanka. It is found that only one national level open access e-repository is available in Sri Lanka. It is NSF e-repository and is still in the beginning stage. There are some attempts to approach open access concept; that several universities and other institutions tried to provide free access to resources by setting up subject gateways, linking to free resources in the internet, building Institutional repositories of institutional publications, and providing simultaneous access to e-journals purchased under consortia programmes. The success of these attempts is not achievable because these attempts were based on personal interests rather than governing under a national programme with the help of authorities. It seems that a national level open access e-repository is essential to the country as the conventional paper mode archives are not able to satisfy the demand of teaching, learning and research community. Open access e-repository in Sri Lanka should be able to accommodate storing, diffusion and managing of knowledge output of the country. The promoting of self-archiving will be an effective mechanism to develop the national e-repository and experiences from global level e-repositories such as E-LIS can be used to form a framework for national level e-repository in Sri Lanka.

As www, and now web 2.0 is growing by the second, it gives us new possibilities of pedagogical forms, and the main following outcomes: resources, implementation, usage, practice. We will re-evaluate and examine new forms of social networking - theoretical and practical knowledge in academia and science: from implemetation of web roots practice, listservs, eBoards, eZines (alternative art and education forms –then), the usage of eResources in academia, education profession to the wider audience: using larger online open archives, Consortias, digital libraries, repositories, to online social networking applications, science and education blogs. Author uses and presents data from her Master research paper with relevant results about the usage of the precious online resources, electronic publishing materials within Consortia (that are available in science institutions, academia and libraries). More than thousands and thousands available resources are not used because of many factors that the author explained in one of the chapters in master paper. As indicated in outlines, e-tensions play themselves differently in various institutional geographies. Author took empirical research on three geographic points: USA, Europe (UK and Nederlands) and Serbia. The Scopes are two paradigms: human factor and digital media educational tools (human-computer interaction and its social impacts), that we use in education systems and professional practice. For the first one is indicated open source educational software, applications and tools for giving information and knowledge. We will also give a short notice on the interest and the usage of the aimed groups of those possiblities (at classes, lectures). For the second, in professional practice we will see how those social knowledge tools have impact on larger science commnity groups (science, educational institutes and institutions) as well as the outcome-feedback. The point will be given on interaction in open knowledge and education, as well as the notice to the audience of the recent exemplar of implementation of social, interactive knowledge into professional practice and educational system - the concept of web of science which founder is the father of World Wide Web Tim Berners- Lee.

One of the challenges of the BMC (Municipal Libraries of A Coruña) is to become " lifelong learning centers " and to be between the community they serve and the information resources. The BMC are conscious that they need to incorporate learning, or lifelong learning, as one of the main strategies of the Network, if they want to adapt the role of the public library to the demands of the digital age. In 2013 starts the volunteer program with four activities ("Coa Lingua de fóra", "Cybervolunteers," Easy reading "and" The hour of reading ") and eighteen volunteers. These programs are currently being maintained and a new adult literacy campaign has been created: "It is never late", in collaboration with Cáritas. The rapid increase of publications both in print and digital form raises costs while academic libraries budgets are constantly decreasing. At the same time academic libraries cannot ignore the continuous spread of open geographical data on the web. The construction of policies consist a major and substantial function for any library in order to develop geospatial collections and provide added value services to its users. Based on this rationale, the purpose of the current research is to determine the availability of geospatial collection policies and identify their specific characteristics as they emerge through their published texts. The population of these policy texts comes from the U.S.A., Canada, Australia and Europe, e.g. regions where the libraries have developed similar collections. In order to approach the topic of geospatial collection policies, two methodologies were used: a) research on libraries’ websites and b) content analysis. The sample of libraries that has been surveyed included 136 libraries with geospatial collections. In order to draw conclusions, it was necessary to determine the connection of the sample of libraries by participating in Map/GIS Libraries Associations such as ARL, MAGIRT, WAML, ANZMaps and MAGIC Group. From the sample of 136 libraries with collections and services regarding geographic information 53 (39%) policy documents were collected. The study of policy texts resulted their classification in six categories and relating to their extent they were divided into three types. After the examination of each text, the results were organized in tables and therefore eight major categories emerged. The results of the research established a baseline information about the current use and trends of collection development policies in Map/GIS libraries and lead to some conclusions regarding the geospatial collection development environment.

Wikimedia Commons has become a reference repository for old photography, due to the development of projects to release digitized material by memory institutions. These materials can be used,modified and distributed freely, facilitating culture access and enjoyment, scientific research, and cultural creation. This work deals with the OpenGLAM notion and projects, the activities that are carried out in Wikimedia Commons, and the characteristics and problematic of the information and archival management of the material.

Overview of academic book evaluation systems

The arrival of the new digital environment has led to a revolution in the creation and the access to the information. One of the most remarkable consequences of this phenomenon is the Big Data, which refers to the huge amount of digitalized data that is used by distinct stakeholders for their analysis and use with different goals. This paper analyzes the consequences in the context of Personal Data Protection and lists the challenges and problems the Big Data implies in order to the legal principles that defend the privacy of the citizens.
