In this paper we present a novel method to print paper and cardboard without ink. The method is based on the carbonization of paper by a combination of lasers working on different wavelengths. A prove of concept system is created based on combining existing commercial systems to demonstrate the viability of the method. The results show that no debris is generated and the quality of the mark is superior in terms of contrast and resolution with previously known methods.

This Special Issue on “Selected Papers from IEEE ICASI 2018” includes excellent papers presented at the IEEE ICASI 2018 regarding the “applied system innovation” topic. Mechanical engineering and design innovations are both academic and practical engineering fields, which involve systematic technological materialization through scientific principles and engineering designs. Technological innovations in mechanical engineering include IT-based intelligent mechanical systems, mechanics and design innovations, and applied materials in nanosciences and nanotechnology. The aim is to encourage the attendees at the IEEE ICASI 2018 to publish their experimental and theoretical research relating to applied system innovation.

Tracking progress in machine learning has become increasingly difficult with the recent explosion in the number of papers. In this paper, we present AxCell, an automatic machine learning pipeline for extracting results from papers. AxCell uses several novel components, including a table segmentation subtask, to learn relevant structural knowledge that aids extraction. When compared with existing methods, our approach significantly improves the state of the art for results extraction. We also release a structured, annotated dataset for training models for results extraction, and a dataset for evaluating the performance of models on this task. Lastly, we show the viability of our approach enables it to be used for semi-automated results extraction in production, suggesting our improvements make this task practically viable for the first time. Sentiment Analysis is done by gathering the data, analyzing the text and aggregating the words in the text. The main focus of this survey is on the evaluation methods used and their respective core solutions. In this paper we are going to study the aspect based sentiment classification, which is classified into three. Those are Implicit, Explicit and Coreferential aspect based sentiment classification. In this paper we are also going to elaborate the polarity of the reviews into positive and negative sentiments. Aspect Based Classification not only promises to suppress the noisy data but also provides high efficiency in identifying the aspects with an addition of performing classification task with higher accuracy. This accuracy can be achieved by using Neural Network algorithms.

Understanding the current research trends, problems, and their innovative solutions remains a bottleneck due to the ever-increasing volume of scientific articles. In this paper, we propose NLPExplorer, a completely automatic portal for indexing, searching, and visualizing Natural Language Processing (NLP) research volume. NLPExplorer presents interesting insights from papers, authors, venues, and topics. In contrast to previous topic modelling based approaches, we manually curate five course-grained non-exclusive topical categories namely Linguistic Target (Syntax, Discourse, etc.), Tasks (Tagging, Summarization, etc.), Approaches (unsupervised, supervised, etc.), Languages (English, Chinese, etc.) and Dataset types (news, clinical notes, etc.). Some of the novel features include a list of young popular authors, popular URLs and datasets, list of topically diverse papers and recent popular papers. Also, it provides temporal statistics such as yearwise popularity of topics, datasets, and seminal papers. To facilitate future research and system development, we make all the processed dataset accessible through API calls. The current system is available at http://nlpexplorer.org.

Review rating prediction of text reviews is a rapidly growing technology with a wide range of applications in natural language processing. However, most existing methods either use hand-crafted features or learn features using deep learning with simple text corpus as input for review rating prediction, ignoring the hierarchies among data. In this paper, we propose a Hierarchical bi-directional self-attention Network framework (HabNet) for paper review rating prediction and recommendation, which can serve as an effective decision-making tool for the academic paper review process. Specifically, we leverage the hierarchical structure of the paper reviews with three levels of encoders: sentence encoder (level one), intra-review encoder (level two) and inter-review encoder (level three). Each encoder first derives contextual representation of each level, then generates a higher-level representation, and after the learning process, we are able to identify useful predictors to make the final acceptance decision, as well as to help discover the inconsistency between numerical review ratings and text sentiment conveyed by reviewers. Furthermore, we introduce two new metrics to evaluate models in data imbalance situations. Extensive experiments on a publicly available dataset (PeerRead) and our own collected dataset (OpenReview) demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach compared with state-of-the-art methods., Accepted by COLING 2020

The medical robotics market in the global healthcare industry have spread and extended in these several years. Internet of Medical Robotics Things (IoMRT) is also growing and Internet of Things is extending a new field of healthcare application. Whereas, the previous paper suggested that, in the field of robotics, the cloud platforms for Internet of Robotics Things (IoRT) were gradually developed; therefore, the digital platform and architecture for IoMRT of the healthcare industries should be formulated when necessary. An open healthcare platform for IoMRT is expected to promote and implement the robotics and the IoMRT applications for medical and healthcare communities efficiently. In this paper, we suggest that various medical robotics and the IoMRT-related applications will be designed and verified, while the open platform for medical, healthcare-related Robotics should be proposed and verified by the research initiative named “Open Healthcare Platform 2030–OHP2030.” In addition, the vision for enabling medical robotics and the IoMRT-related applications in the OHP2030 research initiative is explained.

This paper is a plea for developing possibilistic learning methods that would be consistent with if-then rule-based reasoning. The paper first recall the possibility theory-based handling of cascading sets of parallel if-then rules. This is illustrated by an example describing a classification problem. It is shown that the approach is both close to a possibilistic logic handling of the problem and can also be put under the form of a max-min-based matrix calculus describing a function underlying a structure somewhat similar to a max-min neural network. The second part of the paper discusses how possibility distributions can be obtained from precise or imprecise statistical data, and then surveys the few existing works on learning in a possibilistic setting. A final discussion emphasizes the interest of handling learning and reasoning in a consistent way.

The amount of data that produced is increased day after day especially data as a text, so with this massive production it would be difficult to analyze or extract information to discover the patterns from the unstructured text. Text mining is used for availing the massive amount of knowledge that is in the text and deriving high quality information from the text automatically. This Process would save effort and time. Text mining considered as a subset of data mining where data mining is more generic. This paper proposes a methodology of mining a text for a case study related to publication papers. Some of text mining approaches will be introduced for mining the publication papers using machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques. Describing each phase as following: First phase is keywords extraction using natural language processing techniques, second phase named entity recognition and last phase is document classification. The last two phases are using the ML techniques. Then a case study is built to simulate the system phases, showing what is the input and the output in each phase.

Verification techniques have been applied to the design of secure protocols for decades. However, relatively few efforts have been made to ensure that verified designs are also implemented securely. Static code verification techniques offer one way to bridge the verification gap between design and implementation, but require substantial expertise and manual labor to realize in practice. In this short paper, we propose black-box runtime verification as an alternative approach to extend the security guarantees of protocol designs to their implementations. Instead of instrumenting the complete protocol implementation, our approach only requires instrumenting common cryptographic libraries and network interfaces with a runtime monitor that is automatically synthesized from the protocol specification. This lightweight technique allows the effort for instrumentation to be shared among different protocols and ensures security with presumably minimal performance overhead.

Edge environments are generating an increasingly large amount of data due to the proliferation of edge devices. Accommodating this large influx of data at edge servers is a challenging issue. While some data can be processed as it is generated, others must be stored for later access. This paper proposes the features that a new edge-native storage system must possess including support for user mobility and node fluctuation. To motivate this, we first describe several emerging edge applications and their data needs. We then describe the challenges in meeting these needs. We then evaluate an out-of-the-box cloud storage system, Cassandra, to assess it’s suitability as an edge storage system due to many edge-friendly features. We determined that while a cloud-based storage system can be ported to the edge meeting some of the challenges, other challenges require new solutions. Based on the challenges and the results of Cassandra case study, we propose a set of design principles for a new edge-native storage system.

Deep neural networks (DNNs) have been successfully applied to a great variety of applications, ranging from small IoT devices to large scale services in a data center. In order to improve the efficiency of processing these DNN models, dedicated hardware accelerators are required for all these scenarios. Theoretically, there exists an optimized acceleration architecture for each application. However, considering the cost of chip design and corresponding tool-chain development, researchers need to trade off between efficiency and generality. In this work, we demonstrate that it is practical to use a unified architecture, called Ascend, to support those applications, ranging from IoT devices to data-center services. We provide a lot of design details to explain that the success of Ascend relies on contributions from different levels. First, heterogeneous computing units are employed to support various DNN models. And the datapath is adapted according to the requirement of computing and data access. Second, when scaling the Ascend architecture from a single core to a cluster containing thousands of cores, it involves design efforts, such as memory hierarchy and system level integration. Third, a multi-tier compiler, which provides flexible choices for developers, is the last critical piece. Experimental results show that using accelerators based on the Ascend architecture can achieve comparable or even better performance in different applications. In addition, various chips based on the Ascend architecture have been successfully commercialized. More than 100 million chips have been used in real products.

Context and motivation. Collaborative AI systems aim at working together with humans in a shared space. Building these systems, which comply with quality requirements, domain specific standards and regulations is a challenging research direction. This challenge is even more exacerbated for new generation of systems that leverage on machine learning components rather than deductive (top-down programmed) AI.

In this study, we analyzed keywords from different academic papers using data from more than 300 papers. Using the concept of quantitative surveys and machine learning, we conducted various analyses on the keywords in different papers. The findings obtained from these surveys and analyses are assumed to lend themselves to the automatic assignment of keywords for papers. In this study, the number of keywords included in a paper is quantitatively expressed using the covering rate and density of keywords. The results confirm that paper titles are likely to include keywords. The performed keyword analyses predict words that can be used as keywords via machine learning. The proposed method has an accuracy range 0.6–0.8. In addition, by analyzing the features used in machine learning, we can obtain the characteristics of the words that are mentioned as keywords in papers.

Communication modules and display devices are required to display and provide dynamic information at bus stops. Conventional bus stops provide bus users delay information and sightseeing information by combining cellular network with bulletin board, a liquid crystal panel, electronic paper (hereinafter referred to as “e-paper”), etc. However, there are many cases in which the visibility of information drops significantly depending on the amount of information of the content displayed on the bus stop and the specification of the display device to be adopted. In this paper, we describe the design of a smart bus stop that can use responsive web design and display optimized content on e-paper with different specifications with one source, and the evaluation results of the smart bus stop implemented with prototype.

Retweeting or reposting a message is considered as an easily available information diffusion mechanism provided by Twitter or any other social network sites. By finding out why a user retweets a tweet, or predicting whether a tweet will be retweeted by a user, we can not only understand user's behavior or interest better, but also understand how information is diffused on the online social network. In this survey paper, we have explored various research works related to retweet prediction and retweeting behavior analysis, investigated the underlying reasons for spreading information in forms of retweets, and discussed the challenges of retweet related research. The purpose of the paper is to provide an overview of researches in retweet prediction area, which can be used as an introductory guide for future researchers in this field.

Scientific retrieval systems need to be given domain search terms for searching publications, however, as natural language, search terms provided by users are often fuzzy and limited and some relevant terms are always overlooked in searching. Meanwhile, users always desire to be given domain related keywords to enlighten themselves what other terms can be used for their searching. This paper presents a concepts recommendation model in scientific paper retrieval, in which concepts are extracted from keyword in scientific papers, and some data mining algorithms are used to calculate the similarity between search terms and concepts and do recommendation for users. This model is simple and can be used with small dataset, in which all training data used is from meta data of papers that is easy to acquired. Experimental result hold good precision, which shows that this research not only simplifies searching step and improves the searching quality for users, but also lays the foundation for semantic search.

The study aimed to realize the automatic production scheduling of waste paper in paper mills. Based on the quantities of the field data (mixing ratios of waste paper and pulp properties) stored in a paper mill, the methods of back propagation neural networks (BP-NN) and support vector machine (SVM), the all data set and the average data set, were firstly applied to develop the prediction models of the pulp properties; and then the genetic algorithm was used to search for the suitable scheduling solutions. The simulation results revealed that: demonstrating its acceptable prediction accuracy and fast training time, the prediction model with SVM method and the average data set was good enough to be used in the genetic algorithm to search for the optimal scheduling ratios of waste paper, the obtained optimal scheduling solution not only had the lowest purchase cost of waste paper, but also met the requirements of the mill: specified types of waste paper, specified ratio of some kind of waste paper and the required pulp brightness.

Paper manufacturing is energy demanding and improved modelling of the pulp bleach process is the main non-invasive means of reducing energy costs. In this paper, time it takes to bleach paper pulp to desired brightness is examined. The model currently used is analysed and benchmarked against two machine learning models Random Forest and TreeBoost. Results suggests that the current model can be superseded by the machine learning models and it does not use the optimal compact subset of features. Despite the differences between the machine learning models, a feature ranking correlation has been observed for the new models. One novel, yet unused, feature that both machine learning models found to be important is the concentration of bleach agent.

Pervasive Social Networks of Strangers are available constantly, connecting users directly with no preexisting relationships. Such networks demand a high level of privacy, as users should be anonymous and their behaviour unlinkable. However, the anonymity of users could lead to abusive messages, spam, or fraud. A possible solution is to keep track of users' reputations, based on feedback from other users. However, the need to collate feedback on user behaviour to form reputations is at odds with the need for privacy. Anonymous and unlinkable feedback is also required, whilst multiple feedbacks given on the same item should be detected. To resolve this, we use group signatures and direct anonymous attestation, to give a reputation-based messaging scheme.

International audience; A configuration of antenna using flexible substrate for RF energy harvesting system working at GSM frequency 1800 MHz is presented. The suspended structure is used to surpass the high loss of the substrate. By taking advantage of the flexible properties, the process of miniaturization is achieved through folding the substrate into sections. The antenna prototypes were fabricated and measured. With the compact size of 0.36 λ × 0.33 λ × 0.03 λ, the measured gain is 5.3 dB, about 10 dB gain increase compared to conventional structure.

Fraud victims are often refused a refund by their bank on the grounds that they failed to comply with their bank’s terms and conditions about PIN safety. We, therefore, conducted a survey of how many PINs people have, and how they manage them. We found that while only a third of PINs are ever changed, almost half of bank customers write at least one PIN down. We also found bank conditions that are too vague to test, or even contradictory on whether PINs could be shared across cards. Yet, some hazardous practices are not forbidden by many banks: of the 22.9% who re-use PINs across devices, half also use their bank PINs on their mobile phones. We conclude that many bank contracts fail a simple test of reasonableness, and ‘strong authentication’, as required by the Payment Services Directive II, should include usability testing.

Cultural competence is a well known requirement for an effective healthcare, widely investigated in the nursing literature. We claim that personal assistive robots should likewise be culturally competent, aware of general cultural characteristics and of the different forms they take in different individuals, and sensitive to cultural differences while perceiving, reasoning, and acting. We introduce a model for examining the factors that lead to the adoption of new encryption technologies. Building on the work of Brock and Durlauf, the model describes how agents make choices, in the presence of social interaction, between competing technologies given their relative cost, functionality, and usability. We apply the model to examples about the adoption of encryption in communication (email and messaging) and storage technologies (self-encrypting drives) and also consider our model’s predictions for the evolution of technology adoption over time.

There are several frameworks for password-based authenticated key exchange (PAKE) protocols with common reference string following the work of Katz, Ostrovsky and Yung (Eurocrypt’01), and it seems that the IND-CCA secure encryption is inevitable when constructing PAKE in standard model.

In order to improve the security of medical data, this paper uses a robust and secure dual watermarking technique in RDWT-SVD domain. Dual watermarking is achieved by embedding text watermark in medical watermark image using DWT, generating the final watermark. Before embedding, turbo code is used to encode the text watermark. Further, trade-off between imperceptibility and robustness is controlled in our scheme through firefly optimization. Experimental results indicate the proposed method offers high imperceptibility and robustness, and have superior overall performance.

The main interest of this paper is concept of Compressive Sensing and its application in 1D biomedical signals. The accent is on analyzing several types of biomedical signals and finding domain in which they are sparse. Therefore, we use gradient-based algorithm to reconstruct these biomedical signals with different number of samples. By working with gradient-based algorithm, we presented reconstruction of Electrocardiogram, Electroencephalogram and Electromyogram biomedical signals and drew a conclusion about differences between them. Several sparsifying basis are tested in order to find the most suitable one, for specific signal type, and we verified the whole theory by experimental results.

This paper introduces the time stamped bijective MAC algorithm (bMAC), which aims at proving firmware integrity in embedded systems. bMAC computes a MAC over a set of memories, in a pseudo random way relying on a permutation. It is based on exponential permutations that induce computing time distributions. Because bMAC performs calculations on SRAM content, it can be bound to physical chips, by means Physical Unclonable Functions (PUF), extracted from SRAM.

Double-spending attacks on fast payments are one of the fatal architectural problems in Cryptocurrencies. Dmitrienko et al. proposed an offline fast payment scheme that relies on tamper-proof wallets produced by trustworthy manufacturers. With the wallets, the payee can immediately trust the transactions generated by the wallets without waiting for their registration to the blockchain. Secure coin-preloading to the wallet is important, while illegal coin-preloading can cause over/double-spending by the trusted wallets. For this, they proposed an interesting protocol that makes use of a fragment of the main blockchain to prove to the wallets the legitimacy of preloaded coins. One drawback is that, in proving that the fragment are from honest miners, their protocol requires a trusted online time-stamp server so that the wallets can verify the timestamps to see if the blocks in the fragment is mined with sufficiently large amount of computing resources. Otherwise, it sacrifices usability. In order to eliminate such an online trustee, in this paper we took the opposite approach that the payee (not the wallets) verifies the legitimacy of preloaded coins at the time of offline payment. As a consequence, our result shows that, with light-weight tamper-proof wallets, completely decentralized offline payment is possible without any modification to the existing Bitcoin network.

[Context and motivation] Modern software engineering processes have shifted from traditional upfront requirements engineering (RE) to a more continuous way of conducting RE, particularly including data-driven approaches. [Question/problem] However, current research on data-driven RE focuses more on leveraging certain techniques such as natural language processing or machine learning than on making the concept fit for facilitating its use in the entire software development process. [Principal ideas/results] In this paper, we propose a research agenda composed of six distinct research directions. These include a data-driven RE infrastructure, embracing data heterogeneity, context-aware adaptation, data analysis and decision support, privacy and confidentiality, and finally process integration. Each of these directions addresses challenges that impede the broader use of data-driven RE. [Contribution] For researchers, our research agenda provides topics relevant to investigate. For practitioners, overcoming the underlying challenges with the help of the proposed research will allow to adopt a data-driven RE approach and facilitate its seamless integration into modern software engineering. For users, the proposed research will enable the transparency, control, and security needed to trust software systems and software providers. We present DeepPaperComposer, a simple solution for preparing highly accurate (100%) training data without manual labeling to extract content from scholarly articles using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). We used our approach to generate data and trained CNNs to extract eight categories of both textual (titles, abstracts, headers, figure and table captions, and other texts) and non-textural content (figures and tables) from 30 years of IEEE VIS conference papers, of which a third were scanned bitmap PDFs. We curated this dataset and named it VISpaper-3K. We then showed our initial benchmark performance using VISpaper-3K over itself and CS-150 using YOLOv3 and Faster-RCNN. We open-source DeepPaperComposer of our training data generation and released the resulting annotation data VISpaper-3K to promote re-producible research.

Although considerable effort is made to secure organisational infrastructures and to protect organizational assets, it is widely acknowledged that it is equally important to ensure that organisations need to define appropriate ways to harden their overall resilience including recovery from security incidents. In this exploratory paper we outline research challenges and we present the motivation and the foundations of a novel framework that is based on security resilience and capability modelling theory.

Based on the sequential batch reactor (SBR) simulation model of the wastewater treatment process for a secondary fiber paper mill that we have developed, two control strategies, a neural network (BP-PID controller) and a fuzzy logic system (Fuzzy-PID controller), were separately combined with PID to control the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration in the SBR process of paper mill. Two cases, without and with the presence of noise, have been studied and evaluated using the criteria considered in BSM1. For the case without noise, both two-control strategies demonstrated better control indices than that of the traditional PID control; for the case with noise, the Fuzzy-PID controller possessed the good control indices at almost the same expense of aeration energy. The results under two cases showed that the Fuzzy-PID controller demonstrated better performance than that of BP-PID controller, in the DO control of SBR process in the paper mill, Fuzzy-PID controller improved the control performance without increasing the aeration energy consumption.

Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) systems should offer services to the users that should be designed, tested, and delivered in real scenarios to gain robustness. This paper explores the issues of creating end-to-end services for older adults and their caregivers deploying an AAL system at home. It describes the work done for designing added value services starting from a state-of-the-art continuous data gathering infrastructure. The paper presents the general idea and its basic ingredients, then it focuses on the work done for creating services on top of the data gathering layer. In particular, it dwells on the used deployment approach and provides the results from one particular test site.

The design and engineering of solutions based on sensor data is currently based on legacy low-level sensor communication. The transition to IoT-based sensors has started to provide IP-based sensor communication based on service concepts. This requires radically different solution architectures and the associated engineering process. Here, IoT sensors will provide services instead of a communication interface, as a means of integrating into application solutions. It is further anticipated that the size of the solution will reach well beyond that of the current legacy automation implementations.This paper addresses architectural concepts for very large-scale SoS- and IoT-based solutions. Architecture concepts and their associated engineering concepts are considered. IoT and SoS evolvability, run-time dynamics, scalability and segmentation, run-time engineering, self-engineering, self-mitigation, and machine-to-machine business are some examples of such concepts. These concepts must be coupled with the requirements such as the management of IoT/SoS solution functionality, security, safety, maintenance, and evolution.

International audience; Sentiment analysis has grown to become increasingly important for companies to more accurately understand customer/supplier sentiments about their processes/products and services, and predict customer churn. In particular, existing sentiment analysis aims to better understand their customer’s or supplier’s emotions which are essentially the affirmative, negative, and neutral views of users on tangible or intangible entities e.g., products or services. One of the most prevalent sources to analyse these sentiments is Twitter. Unfortunately, however, existing sentiment analysis techniques suffer from three serious shortcomings: (1) they have problems to effectively deal with streaming data as they can merely exploit (Twitter) hashtags, and (2) neglect the context of Tweets. In this paper, we present SANA: a context-aware solution for dealing with streaming (Twitter) data, analysing this data on the fly taking into account context and more comprehensive semantics of Tweets, and dynamically monitoring and visualising trends in sentiments through dashboarding and query facilities.

A computing policy is a sequence of rules, where each rule consists of a predicate and a decision, and where each decision is either “accept” or “reject”. A policy P is said to accept (or reject, respectively) a request iif the decision of the first rule in P, that matches the request is “accept” (or “reject”, respectively). Examples of computing policies are firewalls, routing policies and software-defined networks in the Internet, and access control policies. A policy P is called adequate iff P accepts at least one request. It has been shown earlier that the problem of determining whether a given policy is adequate (called the policy adequacy problem) is NP-hard. In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm that use SAT solvers to solve the policy adequacy problem. Experimental results show that our algorithm can determine whether a given policy with 90 K rules is adequate in about 3 min.

Instrumentation techniques are widely used for implementing dynamic program analysis tools like profilers or debuggers. While there are many toolkits and frameworks to support the development of such low-level instrumentations, there is little support for the refinement or composition of instrumentations. A common practice is thus to copy and paste from existing instrumentation code. This, of course, violates well-established software engineering principles, results in code duplication, and hinders maintenance. In this position paper we identify two challenges regarding the refinement and composition of instrumentations and illustrate them with a running example.

The article deals with the problem of organizing student achievement control using an online testing based on the Plickers software. It is established that schools’ teachers in Sumy region (Ukraine) and future mathematics teachers (Makarenko Sumy State Pedagogical University, Ukraine) are mostly unfamiliar with such technology. The usefulness of modernizing the content of educational curricular and master classes for working teachers to integrate the testing technology by using the mobile application Plickers into the educational process is confirmed. The article describes the process of preparation and experience of organizing an online testing of future mathematics teachers by using Plickers based on the study of the discipline "Mathematical logic and theory of algorithms". The advantages and disadvantages of using such a tool in the educational process are noted. The results of the effectiveness of the use of Plickers in the educational process are given.

We discuss the Post Quantum Cryptography algorithms for key establishment under consideration by NIST for standardization. Three of these, Crystals- Kyber, Classic McEliece and Supersingular Isogeny based Key Encapsulation (SIKE), are representatives of the three classes of hard problems underlying the security of almost all 69 candidate algorithms accepted by NIST for consideration in round 1 of evaluation. For each algorithm, we briefly describe the hard problem underlying the algorithm's cryptographic strength, the algebraic structure i.e., the groups or finite fields, underlying the computations, the basic computations performed in these algorithms, the algorithm itself, and the performance considerations for efficient implementation of the basic algorithm on conventional many-core processors. For Crystals- Kyber and SIKE, we will discuss the potential solutions to improve their performance on many-core processors.

A secure medical image watermarking framework using SVD, DE, step space filling curve and IntDCT is proposed. The proposed algorithm starts with partition of the host medical image into 8×8 blocks and then IntDCT is applied in each block. By collecting integer DC coefficients, a feeble resolution medical image is obtained. SVD is applied on this feeble resolution image. For maintaining a strong relationship between imperceptibility and robustness, the popular differential evolution (DE) technique is chosen to examine the most suitable scaling factors. The singular values of the host image are modified with the singular values of the watermark to insert the watermark in the host image. Here, DE is playing a very important role to determine the most suitable scaling factors to the embedded process for maintaining the dilemma between robustness and imperceptibility without degrading the nobility of medical images. To increase the security of the watermark image, first it is scuffled with the help of step space filling curve before the embedding process. The experimental observations and results proved the efficiency of the proposed framework. It maintains the quality of the watermarked images and the watermark can be extracted from the seriously malformed images.

Steganography is the art of hiding a secret message inside a publicly visible carrier message. Ideally, it is done without modifying the carrier, and with minimal loss of information in the secret message. Recently, various deep learning based approaches to steganography have been applied to different message types. We propose a deep learning based technique to hide a source RGB image message inside finite length speech segments without perceptual loss. To achieve this, we train three neural networks; an encoding network to hide the message in the carrier, a decoding network to reconstruct the message from the carrier and an additional image enhancer network to further improve the reconstructed message. We also discuss future improvements to the algorithm proposed.

In recent times, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have created a lot of buzz in the research community. GANs are formulated on the zero-sum game theory, where two neural nets compete against each other. The resultant deep model is capable of generating data similar to any data distribution provided. It utilizes the adversarial learning approach and is far more capable in learning features than the traditional machine learning models. This review focusses on the origin and evolution of GANs. Firstly, the traditional GAN is explored in terms of its structure and loss functions. Then come the common challenges of training GANs. Thirdly, the review dives into numerous GAN variants and explains their improvements. The review then lists the wide variety of applications and ends with the conclusion.

We present a mathematical technique for using Hermite functions to reconstruct various types of images. Even though the functions are not orthogonal, they can be used in image processing. The functions permit us to get good localization of the signals and it is shown that we get better reconstructed image quality for a larger number of Hermite functions used. Finally, we use a Hermit function frame to decompose and reconstruct a few types of images and compare the results for various number of Hermit functions.

We propose a method to learn 3D deformable object categories from raw single-view images, without external supervision. The method is based on an autoencoder that factors each input image into depth, albedo, viewpoint and illumination. In order to disentangle these components without supervision, we use the fact that many object categories have, at least in principle, a symmetric structure. We show that reasoning about illumination allows us to exploit the underlying object symmetry even if the appearance is not symmetric due to shading. Furthermore, we model objects that are probably, but not certainly, symmetric by predicting a symmetry probability map, learned end-to-end with the other components of the model. Our experiments show that this method can recover very accurately the 3D shape of human faces, cat faces and cars from single-view images, without any supervision or a prior shape model. The IP is a primary data plane protocol on the Internet, which has several deficiencies when addressing the needs of modern digital society involving machine-to-machine communication and a remarkably enhanced user experience. New IP is an advanced network protocol specification to modernize the network layer without changing the fundamental Internet architecture. New IP envisions a new header format with 3 functional characteristics, i.e., shipping spec, contract spec, and payload spec. Using these fundamental blocks, New IP proposes a new data plane forwarding paradigm with far more advanced capabilities, such as ManyNets addressing, high precision services and qualitative communications.

We present Siam R-CNN, a Siamese re-detection architecture which unleashes the full power of two-stage object detection approaches for visual object tracking. We combine this with a novel tracklet-based dynamic programming algorithm, which takes advantage of re-detections of both the first-frame template and previous-frame predictions, to model the full history of both the object to be tracked and potential distractor objects. This enables our approach to make better tracking decisions, as well as to re-detect tracked objects after long occlusion. Finally, we propose a novel hard example mining strategy to improve Siam R-CNN's robustness to similar looking objects. Siam R-CNN achieves the current best performance on ten tracking benchmarks, with especially strong results for long-term tracking. Renewable energy production throughout low-voltage grids has gradually increased in electrical distribution systems, therefore introducing small energy producers - prosumers. This paradigm challenges the traditional unidirectional energy distribution flow to include disperse power production from renewables. To understand how energy usage can be optimized in the dynamic electrical grid, it is important to understand the behavior of prosumers and their impact on the grid’s operational procedures. The main focus of this study is to investigate how grid operators can obtain an automatic data-driven system for the low-voltage electrical grid management, by analyzing the available grid topology and time-series consumption data from a real-life test area. The aim is to argue for how different consumer profiles, clustering and prediction methods contribute to the grid-related operations. Ultimately, this work is intended for future research directions that can contribute to improving the trade-off between systematic and scalable data models and software computational challenges. Imprecise composite location references formed using ad hoc spatial expressions in English text makes the geocoding task challenging for both inference and evaluation. Typically such spatial expressions fill in unestablished areas with new toponyms for finer spatial referents. For example, the spatial extent of the ad hoc spatial expression "north of" or "50 minutes away from" in relation to the toponym "Dayton, OH" refers to an ambiguous, imprecise area, requiring translation from this qualitative representation to a quantitative one with precise semantics using systems such as WGS84. Here we highlight the challenges of geocoding such referents and propose a general formal representation that employs background knowledge, semantic approximations and rules, and fuzzy linguistic variables. We also discuss an appropriate evaluation technique for the task that is based on human contextualized and subjective judgment.
