Background: Scientific research publishing carries significant role in the development of the society. Apart from the dissemination of knowledge, there are also motives for publication of scientific research results at the level of individual researchers. Objectives: The goal of the paper is to propose simple, yet highly applicable advice when pursuing the publication of a paper in a scientific journal providing a closer look to economics, business and management journals that focus on Eastern European countries. Methods/Approach: The 4 Cs model of scientific writing and publication is presented, based on four questions: (1) How to pick a topic relevant for publication?; (2) How to select a journal for possible publication?; (3) How to structure the paper in accordance with the IMRAD format?, and (4) How to efficiently write the paper? Results: Step-by-step application of the 4C's model is presented in the paper with an outlook to economics, business and management journals that focus on Eastern European countries. Conclusions: Publication in a scientific journal is an important venue for scientific researchers. In preparing the presentation of the scientific research results for the publication, number of issues relating content, style, composition and presentation should be taken into account. The growth and diversity in contemporary return migration have given rise to questions related to migrants' (re)integration into their society of origin. In particular, a growing set of studies examine the returnees' labour market situation to understand how time spent living and working abroad affects individuals' social mobility upon return. The key aim of this paper is to explore the socio-occupational paths of returning migrants. Based on the online survey with Polish and Lithuanian returnees (n = 544) who had spent at least a year in the UK, we aim to identify patterns in the socio-occupational sequences of people experiencing returning migration. Based on sequence analysis carried out in TraMineR (Life Trajectory Miner for R) covering the situation of returning migrants before migration, during migration and upon return, we have distinguished four clusters of sequences: (1) sequences with education, (2) sequences with employment, (3) sequences with unemployment and (4) sequences with self-employment. We compare those clusters in terms of demographic characteristics, as well as migration plans. We also take into consideration skills acquired and transferred throughout migration trajectories. With this typology based on the unique dataset of returning migrants, we supplement existing, primarily qualitative, research on returning migrants' careers with the sequence analysis based on quantitative data. The agriculture of Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries as well as of the Soviet Union was an often studied area in the 1970's and 1980's among agricultural economists. After the system collapse, the transition of the agricultural sectors of these regions has gained importance. However, around the millennium, this topic was less studied. This paper aims at analysing the agricultural performance of CEE and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries between 1997 and 2016 and identifying whether the system change and transition have brought changes and convergence in agricultural productivity to EU-15 levels. In doing so, the paper uses convergence theory and associated methods (Kernel density and Markov transition probability) to underpin its arguments. Results suggest that CEE and CIS countries have experienced a limited convergence to Western-European standards. However, there still exists a significant performance gap between the two regions with CEE countries standing closer to EU-15 averages. The institution of the credit bureau is one of the most important elements in controlling the indebtedness levels of a population. All credit bureaus have specific functional characteristics which are able to influence the development of indebtedness. This research aims to identify the most important characteristics of a credit bureau, to quantify those characteristics and to identify causal relationships between the characteristics of the credit bureau and trends in indebtedness per capita levels. The paper introduces the Credit Bureau Functional Index which presents a quantified value of the functional characteristics of the Credit Bureau. The paper establishes a correlation between this index and indebtedness per capita and finds the formula governing this relationship to be linear. The paper concludes that indebtedness levels can be targeted through a mix of characteristics of a credit bureau. Research on this theme is absent in academic literature to date. This paper contributes to the literature on complementary schools as sites of learning and social and cultural identification. We draw on a small-scale multi-method qualitative study conducted in Albanian and Bulgarian community schools in London to explore the agendas of ‘new’ Eastern European complementary schools with respect to learning and heritage and their impact on migrant students’ identities and experiences with education in the UK. Findings demonstrate that different models of complementary schooling and students’ experiences of mainstream education affected students’ views in different ways. The paper explores how the ‘hard’ and ‘boring’ culture of Bulgarian complementary school resulted in students’ expressions of greater liking for learning in mainstream school and valuing of its multiethnic context. It further examines how practices in another complementary school and students’ wider social experiences resulted in a stronger sense of Albanian heritage identity in students, but in more problematic views of UK cultural diversity. The paper examines the relation between religiosity and cognitive appraisal of the subjective well-being of the Central and Eastern European's elderly population. The first part of the paper is dedicated to examining of the scientific literature. In the second part, the authors explore the data basis corresponding to the 6th wave of World Value Survey. The authors use the heterogeneous correlation and the multi-linear regression analysis in order to explain the relation between religiosity and subjective well-being of the old aged. Our results suggest that in the case of the Central Eastern European elderly satisfaction with life is mostly influenced by health and income. Introduction of the second pension pillars in Central and Eastern European countries represents a unique political, social and economic experiment. This paper offers the overview of this paradigmatic shift, taking into account both domestic factors, the role of international financial institutions and the European Union. Ten out of eleven countries -- newcomers to the European Union -- decided to implement it. Slovenia stayed aside from the beginning. Poland, Slovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania offer a rich and diverse trajectory of the time and conditions of its introduction, further development, in some instances retrenchment, and the scope of benefits for retired insured persons. Hungary was a pioneering country, but later on, it left the camp and dropped this option. The issue the paper deals with is the case of the Czech Republic in more detail. The country was a latecomer, opted just for its voluntary version, and cancelled it completely again just after three years of operation. Concluding remarks address the emerging experience with reform outcomes and a potential role of the European Union as one of the actors influencing pension reforms in the region. This paper explores the rhythm of temporary mobility experiences of young Eastern Europeans in Spain, after the European Union ( EU) enlargement towards the East. Following Lefebvre's rhythmanalysis approach, and drawing on 60 in-depth qualitative interviews, this paper investigates how rhythms are linked to youth mobility and how different interplays of rhythms are connected and disconnected in multiple ways. I argue that both the EU socio-economic context and the personal and professional life-course circumstances of young Eastern Europeans who practice mobility create different, uneven rhythms that influence their everyday lives and their perceptions of mobility. This paper highlights the issue of rhythmic change in temporary mobility, uncovering 'arrhythmic' mobility, reflected in the loss and insecurity in the lives of those who practice it; 'polyrhythmic' mobility, practised by people looking to study and/or work and expressed through uncertainty on the one hand and the possibility of establishing a certain rhythm in their lives on the other; and 'eurhythmic' mobility, used by those with a stable professional status in one of the EU countries, in this case, Spain. The conclusions provide a better comprehension of Lefebvre's thinking, offering insights for wider applications. After the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, which ended up Prague spring in August 1968, thousands of Czech (and Slovak) citizens went into exile. Out of estimated 162,000 people, who came to Austria within the next few weeks, some 12,000 refugees decided to stay there. The majority of them chose Vienna to be their new home. My paper deals with this group of Czech refugees and analyses a process of their integration into Austrian majority and how the process, which they had to undergo, changed their national identity. In the paper, which is based on various archive materials and my two field researches among Czechs in Vienna, I also deal with different concepts of national identity and integration. I applied Cooper and Brubaker's concepts of 'identification' and 'self-understanding' to analyse deeper the various contexts of Czech refugees' behaviour and to answer a research question, why it was more difficult for Czech refugees to integrate into existing Czech minority associations in Austria than into Austrian majority itself. Scientific research performance measurement and its analysis creates the context where universities are forced to develop strategies to increase the values obtained from indicators such as number of scientific articles, the number of citations of these articles, h-index, g-index, etc. The purpose of this article is to analyze the performance differences arising in the socio-economic science between major universities in South-Eastern Europe, many of them EU Members. In order to contextualise the papers in this special issue, this paper presents an overview and framework for understanding the importance of East-West migration in Europe associated with the EU enlargement process. The new patterns and forms of migration seen among East European migrants in the West—in terms of circular and temporary free movement, informal labour market incorporation, cultures of migration, transnational networks, and other phenomena documented in the following papers—illustrate the emergence of a new migration system in Europe. Textbook narratives, in terms of standard accounts of immigration, integration and citizenship based on models of post-colonial, guestworker and asylum migration, will need to be rethought. One particularly fertile source for this is the large body of theory and research developed in the study of Mexican-US migration, itself a part of a regional integration process of comparative relevance to the new European context. While the benefits of open migration from the East will likely triumph over populist political hostility, it is a system that may encourage an exploitative dual labour market for Eastern movers working in the West, as well as encouraging a more effective racial or ethnically-based closure to immigrants from South of the Mediterranean and further afield. The paper deals with the problem of ethnic relations in Northern Transylvania after the Second Vienna Arbitration, when Hungarians became a majority and Romanians became a minority in the region, offering an overview of the problem from the political perspective. The paper concentrates on the analysis of the minority politics of the Erdélyi Párt, the most important party of the Transylvanians at that time, with special focus on its basic conception regarding ethnic problems in Transylvania. It presents the foundation of the Transylvanian Party, its representation in the Hungarian Parliament and its relations with the government concerning the minority issue. The paper tries to give an overview on of the politics of the Transylvanian Party regarding the national minorities in Northern Transylvania: Romanians, Germans and Jews. It presents the successes and the failures obtained by the party in this matter in some very important aspects. Finally, the decline of the Transylvanian Party and its political heritage are presented. ‘Homesick tourism’ commonly refers to the travel of Germans who visit their former homes in what is now Poland and other Eastern European countries, from which they were expelled in the wake of the second World War. The paper first differentiates homesick tourism from related types, with which it is often conflated, notably roots tourism, personal heritage tourism and migrant return travel. Drawing on travel reports written by German homesick tourists, the role of memory is identified as the defining criterion. It is shown that homesick tourists are characterised by a unique ‘tourist gaze’. Such clear definition and differentiation are useful in order to better understand and analyse the homesick tourism phenomenon, because homesick tourism is arguably a much wider international phenomenon, albeit unrecognised and sometimes politically contested. Much can be learnt from the German experience in this regard. As the homesick tourism phenomenon is soon going to be over, due to the passing of the survivor generation, the paper ends with the suggestion that Poland is in an ideal position to develop a genuine form of roots tourism targeted at future German tourists. The article focuses on some historical archives. The history of the diocese and its parishes, which included many that served East European immigrants is documented in the Monsignor William Noe Field Archives and Special Collections Center. In the early nineteenth century, several Slavic intellectuals believed in a single Slavic nation speaking a single language, though positing various taxonomies of the nation’s component “tribes” and the language’s component “dialects.” Nevertheless, recent scholars, both historians and linguists, prove so extraordinarily unwilling to acknowledge the existence of Panslavism that several falsify the historical record so as to make historical figures conform to modern national and linguistic thinking. This paper discusses Jan Kollár, Ljudevit Gaj, and Ľudovít Štúr as three sample Panslavs, documents the misrepresentation of their ideas in recent historiography, and explores why so many scholars seek to erase Panslavism from the historical record. As opposed to approximately ten years ago, when low-cost carriers (LLC) were mainly focused on the Western European market, in the past few years the development of LLC was also strongly felt in Eastern European countries. For this reason, the study of LCCs in these countries have captured the attention of many researchers. This paper is divided in two parts. In the first part, we conducted a comparative analysis of the development of LLCs in three Eastern European Countries: Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. In the second part, we focused our analysis on underlining the importance of airline industry for the economic development with an emphasis on the importance for the Romanian economic development. Serbs in America (USA) in mid-1907 began to accept the very idea of Serbian Sokolism and in early 1909 began to emerge initiatives for the establishment of the first Serbian Sokol Societies. By the end of this year two Societies were established, in the upcoming 1910 five more and during 1911 three more societies, so by the end of that year there were in total ten Serbian Soko Societies. In 1912 the establishment of Serbian Sokol Societies continued, and among those societies was also Serbian Soko Society in Oakland, State of California, established in January. The subject of this paper is „Serbian Soko" in Oakland (California) and aim is to investigate exactly when the Society was founded, who were its initiators and founders, which were its main activities and the importance it had on the development of Sokolism in the territory of the United States (America). Currently, there is ongoing discussion about the role of regulatory oversight bodies in relation to the implementation of regulatory impact assessments (RIAs). In fact, one can witness a diffusion of regulatory oversight systems, including in CEE countries, where introduction of an RIA oversight body became part of the modernisation of the overall RIA process to become more effective. In fact, the regulatory oversight mechanism is seen as a tool for the instrumental role of regulation governance. However, this approach does not adequately explain the rationale behind setting up such a body; strategic and symbolic roles may be significant as well. This article first compares the manner in which oversight mechanisms have been institutionalised in five Central and East European countries: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia. Second, it explores how differences in institutionalisation and operation shed light on understanding what stakeholders expect and understand in relation to control of RIA quality. The paper concludes that there are marked differences in regulatory oversight set-up and roles across Central and Eastern Europe, notably as a consequence of the presence or absence of internal learning. This paper provides an insight into the realm of financial contagion, and applies a meta-analytical approach to focus on Central and Eastern European (CEE) economies. Our results show that, on average, asset market correlations have increased, albeit moderately, during turbulent periods as compared to more tranquil times. The selected financial crises are found to vary in terms of their contagiousness. Interestingly, the level of development in a given country is not shown to significantly influence the susceptibility to contagion. Our testing of CEE transition economies indicates that, relative to the sample average, they are less susceptible to financial contagion. An interesting finding relating to CEE transition countries is that they seem to have been affected mostly by crises originating in the United States, even though we have also considered crises originating in Russia and the Czech Republic in the sample. This paper examines the empirical validity of the covered interest parity (CIP) hypothesis in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, and Romania. Before the global financial crisis, CIP was mostly satisfied for the first three countries but not for Romania. During and after the crisis, deviations from CIP have been substantial in all cases but with large differences across the countries. Estimations tie the observed pattern to developments in both global and country-specific risks. In the case of the Czech Republic, increased global risks led to a lower risk premium, indicating that Czech assets functioned as a "safe haven." In Hungary and Poland, increased global risks led to higher risk premiums, suggesting a flight to quality out of Hungarian and Polish assets. Finally, for Romania the deviations from CIP were unrelated to developments in global or local financial risks, reflecting a repressed financial system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The recent literature on international outsourcing points out that cross-border fragmentation of production processes may foster the convergence of international factor prices. The paper re-investigates the efficiency of the East European emerging markets of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Russia analyzed by Rockinger and Urga (2000, 2001) based on the data from September, 1995 through December, 2004. We propose a first-order autoregressive (AR (1)) type time varying parameter model with a non-stochastic linear time trend including the random walk (RW) type model as a special case. The observed data rejects the RW type model for the AR (1) type one. The markets exhibit dynamic efficiency for all the four countries in the sense that the linear time trend approaches to zero over time. We analyze the role of institutional founding conditions and institutional legacy for universities' self-representation in terms of diversity. Based on 374 universities located in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, and Poland, we can differentiate between a more idealistic understanding (logic of inclusion and equality) and a more market-oriented understanding (market logic) of diversity. Our findings show that the founding phase has no significant effect on the likelihood of a university focusing on a market-oriented understanding of diversity—however, we observe an imprinting effect with respect to the adoption of a diversity statement in general and an equity-oriented statement. Moreover, our findings show that there is a socialistic heritage for universities in Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries that is at work and still influences universities' understandings of diversity today. This paper analyzes the selection ofmigrants into overqualified employment abroad. The theoretical model shows that it is either the "best of the worst" or the "worst of the best" that arewilling to accept overqualification abroad, depending on the selection intomigration. This hypothesis is confirmed by an empirical analysis based on a unique survey on cross-bordermobility intentions in three central and eastern European countries: even after controlling for selection into being willing to work abroad, those willing to accept overqualified employment abroad are, ceteris paribus, negatively selected. In many respects, recent East European migrants in the UK look like past migrants to the UK: they left poorer parts of the world in search of work and the better life in the UK. But in other respects, they look different: they are white. Their putative whiteness, however, has not exempted them from the effects of racism. But while there is growing evidence of how they have been targets of racism, less attention has been focused on how they are also perpetrators of racism. The purpose of this paper is to compare the ways Hungarians and Romanians wield ‘race’ to assert and defend the relatively privileged position their putative whiteness affords them in the UK's segmented labour market. This paper examines the main characteristics of the (re-)emerging foreign aid policies of the Visegrád countries (the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia), concentrating on the allocation of their aid resources. I adopt an econometric approach, similar to the ones used in the literature, for analysing the aid allocation of the OECD DAC donors. Using this approach, I examine the various factors that influence aid allocation of the Visegrád countries, using data for the years between 2001 and 2008. The most important conclusion is that the amount of aid a partner country gets from the four emerging donors is not influenced by the level of poverty or the previous performance of the recipients (measured by the level of economic growth or the quality of institutions). The main determining factor seems to be geographic proximity, as countries in the Western Balkans and the Post-Soviet region receive much more aid from the Visegrád countries than other recipients. Historical ties (pre-1989 development relations) and international obligations in the cases of Afghanistan and Iraq are also found to be significant explanatory factors. This allocation is in line with the foreign political and economic interests of these new donors. In this paper, we analysed regional R&D productivities of Central and Eastern European (CEE) Countries. The regional knowledge production framework is utilized for a total of 52 NUTS-2 regions for the 2001-2012 period. Patent applications to the European Patent Office (EPO) are taken as the main output of R&D activities while input variables are total expenditure on R&D and total R&D personal and researchers. Applied productivity analysis based on Malmquist Index shows that total factor productivity (TFP) of knowledge production increased from 2001 to 2012 in all regions. Considering the whole period, although TFP has partially decreased partially after the 2008 crisis, the regions experienced capacity expansion. The main sources of the increase in TFP are found to be technological change and capacity expansion. Efficiency change, in contrast, is found to be negative in the majority of regions. The purpose of the present study is to investigate foreign language teachers' experiences, understanding, attitudes and expertise in regard to the assessment of foreign languages at the primary level in three Eastern European countries (the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Croatia). The central part of the paper focuses on the current assessment research practices in young learner language education and shows different attempts to introduce assessment in primary school situations, and provides some perspective to the classroom-based assessment. It also introduces the recent practice of foreign language assessment in primary situations in three Eastern European countries. The research shows that the majority of teachers had received no additional teacher training in assessing pupils' foreign language development and they express a great desire for additional teacher training in assessing young learners. In all three countries the traditional belief prevails that teachers are the most responsible for assessment. The majority of teachers in all three countries approve of assessing young learners, and they prefer descriptive rather than numerical assessment methods. The share of Old and New Commonwealth migrants in Britain greatly diminished between 1971 and 2002. The decline of former colonial Commonwealth migrants occurred alongside the rise of Central, Eastern European and Middle Eastern migrants. This paper focuses on the chances of social mobility of the previously little-studied new migrant groups and outlines the differences in employment patterns between them and UK-born Whites and old migrants. It establishes that huge differentials exist between new immigrant groups in their labour-market participation, employment rates and occupational attainment. The disadvantage of EU10, Eastern European, Turkish and Middle Eastern migrants in terms of their probabilities of being active, employed and accessing intermediate positions cannot be explained by a lack of human capital, and their situation is not likely to improve with time. This paper presents estimations of the shadow economies for 162 countries, including developing, Eastern European, Central Asian, and high income OECD countries over 1999 to 2006/2007. According to our estimations, the weighted average size of the shadow economy (as a percentage of 'official' GDP) in Sub-Saharan Africa is 37.6%, in Europe and Central Asia (mostly transition countries) 36.4% and in high income OECD countries 13.4%. We find that an increased burden of taxation (direct and indirect ones), combined with (labour market) regulations and the quality of public goods and services as well as the state of the 'official' economy are the driving forces of the shadow economy. Abstract: Since the 2004 EU enlargement established one European common labour market, a large number of Eastern Europeans have taken up seasonal employment as hired farm workers in Norwegian agriculture. Much attention in the public has been given to the potential for ‘social dumping’ of these migrating workers, as they are considered prone to exploitation by farmers looking for cheap and docile labour, and subject to low-wages and poor labour conditions. In response to these threats, Norway implemented labour regulations (‘transitional rules’) that established minimum standards for wage levels and labour conditions, combined with registration and supervision of the incoming labour force. Nevertheless, reports from the field indicate that many of the westward migrating labour force experience work conditions that are far poorer than prescribed by the labour regulations, as these are not implemented at the farm level. In this paper, we discuss the social processes that result in this mismatch between state regulations (e.g. transition rules) and the actual experiences of migrant workers building on dual labour market theory. Analysing qualitative in-depth interviews with 54 farm migrants, we argue that there are two sets of factors underlying the poorer working conditions observed on the farms: Firstly, the structural disempowerment of migrant workers, which gives them weak negotiating positions vis-à-vis their employers (farmers); and secondly, the migrant workers'' frame of reference for wage levels, in which poor payment levels by Norwegian standards are found acceptable or even good when judged by Eastern European wage levels. While a number of works have described the exploitation of farm migrant labour, we demonstrate in this paper how national immigration and agricultural histories, structures and present policies configure the labour–capital relations at farm level in the Norwegian case. In this paper an analysis has been presented of polysemic condensing devices of sentential content, in whose deep structure different types of dependent clauses can be derived in parallel. The aim has been to establish what syntactic and semantic conditions contribute to the polysemy of surface non-sentential structures. The analysis of the material collected has demonstrated that the polysemy of sentential condensing devices is conditioned, on one hand, by the lexical semantics of the verb occupying the position of the predicate of the head clause and the lexical semantics of the linguistic unit occupying the position of the surface condensing device, and, on the other hand, by the verb forms in which the head predicate and the predicate of the derived clause occur. Conflicts between the conservation of biodiversity and other human activities have been and continue to be of increasing concern in the European Union, often having important political, economic, and environmental repercussions. These conflicts have been addressed in the European Union by using a wide array of top down and bottom up tools, with varying degrees of success. A new challenge is now facing Europe with the integration of 10 new countries in the European Union (EU) and an additional range of biodiversity-rich habitats placed under EU legislation. The rich biodiversity of the central and eastern European countries (CEEC) is likely to be threatened by some aspects of the integration process, and conflicts between the conservation of biodiversity and other human activities are expected. In this paper, we review certain existing conflicts between biodiversity conservation and human activities in the CEEC, expected conflicts associated with integration to the EU, particularly in terms of new policy and legislation implementation, and, finally, explore possible conflict management options. The paper is the third part of the geographic essay on the area of Boka kotorska (the Bay of Kotor). In the first part, the authors (Crkvenčić, I.; Schaller, A., 2005) describes social and political changes in Boka kotorska and development of ethnic structure of the area until 1918. The subject of the second part of the essay(Crkvenčić, I.; Schaller, A., 2006) is ethnic structure of Boka kotorska in the period of Austrian rule (1814-1918). Finally, in this, third part, the changes of ethnic structure of Boka kotorska since the fall of Austrian regime onward are analysed. In the focus of the analysis is the phenomenon of a huge decrease of Croatian population in Boka kotorska. The explanation of ethnic development in the area begins with analysis of data obtained from the last Austrian census in 1910. There are two periods considered in the paper: (1) development of ethnic composition in the period of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (1918-1941), and (2) ethnic features of the population of Boka kotorska in the period of federal Yugoslavia (1945-1991). In addition, the analysis of data by Montenegrin census in 2003 us made in the chapter titled «Croats in ethnic structure of Boka kotorska - the dying away of Croation population in Boka kotorska». Czechs are some of the least religious people in Eastern Europe. In contrast, their close neighbors and one-lime compatriots, the Slovaks, are vastly more religious. What explains this marked difference hi religiosity between two regions that have shared a common history throughout the twentieth century? Statistical analyses of demographic differences do not yield any convincing answers. Instead, the religious differences between Czechs and Slovaks are rooted in the historical relationship between religion and nationalism in both regions. This paper provides a historical framework in which to understand current religious differences and shows that secularization is a complex phenomenon which depends heavily on church relations with nationalist sentiment. This paper is part of a broader project investigating the security of borders. Its key hypothesis is that the way migrants get on in the host country influences whether borders divide or unite. In this context survey evidence covering 500 Albanians in Athens is presented to track processes of inegration and exclusion, to see in other words how perceptions of borders are reflected in social attitudes. The picture emerging is that of a vibrant community characterised by family success, coupled though with significant deficits in collective organisation. Thus the derived benefits for both hosts and migrants would have been greater if greater trust characterised their interaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper we show that the success of the EU Regional Policy, in terms of boosting growth in objective 1 regions, will mean a big opportunity for Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs) and hence the increases in competition arising from an enlarged European market combined with a suitable regional development policy should in the future boost the growth of those countries. In the last part of the paper we made a simulation for the funding envelope from 2007, based on the 2000-2006 budget. We show that the figures of the Agenda 2000 provide enough financial support for 90% of the total CEEC population and for 75% of "current" objective 1 population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Norway is perceived as an egalitarian society, providing freedom for diverse minority groups to live their lives without facing discriminatory practices. However, the lived experiences of groups who simultaneously occupy multiple minority positions might be testimony to the complex ways a society enables or hinders identity formation. Taking an intersectional approach and drawing upon in-depth, semi-structured interviews with nine queer individuals with an ethnic minority background, we explored how they negotiate where they belong, relating to social and structural elements of Norwegian society. We also examined how having multiple minority positions may affect belonging to a collective where they are or are not problematized. We developed five themes from the participants' interviews: 1) exclusion based on being visibly different, 2) having to explain oneself, 3) struggling with heteronormativity, 4) non-acceptance by family and ethnic ingroup, and 5) majority queer community as a place of exclusion. Our analysis underlines the potentially dilemmatic 'nature' of having multiple minority identities. Dealing with both majority's expectations and demands and tackling the norms and demands of family and ethnic ingroup is construed as a problem by our participants. We detail and discuss the ways in which our participants experience and relate to majority culture, racism, and heteronormativity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
