This paper describes the possibilities of variable selection in large-scale industrial systems. It introduces knowledge-based, data-based and model-based methods for this purpose. As an example, Case-Based Reasoning application for the evaluation of the web break sensitivity in a paper machine is introduced. The application uses Linguistic Equations approach and basic Fuzzy Logic. The indicator combines the information of on-line measurements with expert knowledge and provides a continuous indication of the break sensitivity. The web break sensitivity defines the current operating situation at the paper mill and gives new information to the operators. Purpose: Mobile learning has seen tremendous growth over the years. Like any other software application, usability is one of the key concerns in its successful implementation. There is a lack of study that provides a comprehensive overview of usability testing of mobile learning applications. Motivated by this a mapping study is conducted. Design/methodology/approach: A systematic mapping study was conducted using 51 papers retrieved from the Scopus database published between 2005 and 2022 that reported on usability testing of mobile learning applications. Findings: The key findings suggest that research is expected to expand in the near future. User-based testing is the commonly used method, while data are collected mainly through questionnaires, observation and interviews. Testing is mainly conducted in a controlled environment. Originality/value: The study provides (1) an evidence-based discussion on usability testing of mobile learning applications, (2) an up-to-date map on state of the art on usability testing of mobile learning applications and (3) providing direction for further research to scientifically strengthen the field. In the past decades, a significant increase has been observed in cyberattacks on the web-based systems used for financial purposes. Such individual systems often contain security weaknesses, called vulnerabilities that can be exploited for malicious purposes. The exploitation of such vulnerabilities can result in disclosure and manipulation of sensitive data as well as have destructive effects. To protect such systems, security testing is required on a periodic basis. Various detection and assessment techniques have been suggested by developers and researchers to address these security issues. In this paper, we survey the contributions of academia in the field of security testing for software applications and communication systems. A comprehensive review and in-depth analysis of the existing literature testing approaches has been performed to analyze their effectiveness and applicability under various scenarios. Further, we discuss various techniques used for conducting various security assessments. We follow the widely used method by Kitchenham and Charters for conducting a comprehensive systematic literature review process. Also, we propose a taxonomy for security testing techniques consisting of three main categories (Identification, Testing, and Reporting) and 17 subcategories consisting of specific security testing techniques (e.g., Black-box testing, risk assessment). Many causes of mortality and morbidities in men are preventable. Men's poor engagement in health-promoting activities has been attributed to the socially constructed male gender identity. Hence, health innovations to promote men's health have to take into the account their social identity and health-seeking behavior. The innovation should be flexible, interactive, discreet, informative, and user-friendly. It should also facilitate self-care. Innovations that deploy information and computer technology (ICT) are promising. MyMan, a future web and mobile application that incorporates self-assessment, individual risk calculation, projection of future health status, and tailored advice, is in the process of prototype development for testing in the community. The main concern about this application is that it may have limited usefulness to an ICT-naïve population. However, this may be overcome by having a similar application in health clinics where assistance in using the technology can be provided. A randomized controlled trial will be conducted to examine the effectiveness of this innovation, which takes into account men's needs for convenience and privacy. This paper presents a critical review of a representative pool of 169 scientific papers and 175 patents, from the last twenty years, proposing new eco-assessment software, in order to draw an overview about their main features and functionalities. Each document was analysed in relation to its source (academia or industry), the application field of the assessed product, the type of use, the application phase, the data entry modality, the assessed product life cycle phases and items, the exploited methods and tools for the eco-assessment, the implemented eco-improvement strategies. Then, based on these collected data, all the documents were classified on multiple levels in accordance with the rigorous ontology of the Life Cycle Assessment methodology. While the detailed analysis of the results allowed us to identify their distributions at to date and their time trends. The obtained results highlighted the trend towards the increase in the specificity of the software with respect to the application field, the focus on the quantification of the environmental impacts deriving from the use of the product and the proposed eco-improvement strategies mainly pointing in this direction. Efforts to realize Web service technology for dynamic integration of distributed components have been started. There is also a proposal for a language that describes the integration flow in a platform-independent form. It is expected that Web service integration will be applied not only to the Internet, but also to various environments such as pervasive networks composed of mobile devices with wireless connections. In the latter case, it is necessary to deal with resource saving problems such as those that arise in a relatively low speed and unstable wireless channel. This study applies the mobile agent technique to the above problem and proposes a mobile agent system for Web service integration. In the proposed system, the physical actions of the mobile agents, that is, migration and cloning, are separated from the integration logic, and are represented as rules to be added to the integration flow description. BACKGROUND: With the development of modern technology, the use of software-based applications in the field of health has become increasingly widespread. For this reason, computer-assisted personal registration forms have been developed using software programs. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare surface contamination during the filling of orthodontic anamnesis-consent forms, traditionally on paper and digitally on a tablet equipped with a software application, measured in confined spaces using the 3M Clean-Trace Luminometer device. METHODS: In order for the participants to complete the orthodontic anamnesis-consent forms, two separate identical cabins with standard flat surfaces were prepared. In the first cabin, the participants conventionally completed these forms on paper (conventional group), while in the second cabin, the other group used a tablet equipped with a software program for this purpose (digital group). After the form completion process, surface pollution of the predetermined areas was measured in both cabins using a 3M Clean-Trace Luminometer device. RESULTS: Surface contamination was found to be statistically significantly higher in all measurement areas in the conventional group than in the digital group. Despite a statistically significant difference between the two groups in relation to the measurements performed using the pens (conventional or electronic), this was not as strong as those found for the remaining surfaces. CONCLUSION: The completion of orthodontic anamnesis-consent forms over tablets significantly reduced surface contamination in the close environment. Formal proof of security measure effectiveness and computation security is vitally important for trust in critical information systems. It should be realized that formal security verification must be carried out at each infrastructural level (from the hardware level to the application level) in the process of system design. Currently, computation security analysis on the application level remains the major challenge as it requires complex labeling of computing environment elements. Traditionally, to solve this problem, information flow control (IFC) methods are employed. Unlike access control mechanisms widely used in modern operating systems (OSs) and database management systems (DBMSs), IFC has limited application in software design and mostly comes down to trivial taint tracking. This paper describes an approach to full-fledged implementation of IFC in PL/SQL program units with the use of the PLIF platform. In addition, a general scheme of computation security analysis for enterprise applications that work with relational DBMSs is considered. Number comparison is a fundamental skill required for academic and functional mathematics (e.g., time, money, purchasing) for students with disabilities. The most commonly used method to teach number comparison is number lines. Although historically paper number lines are used, app-based number lines may offer greater flexibility. This study compared using paper-based and app-based number lines to teach number comparison skills to students with intellectual disability using a single-subject alternating treatments design. Three secondary students with intellectual disability participated in a classroom setting during baseline and intervention phases and a simulated grocery store setting during generalization phases. Both the adapted paper-based and app-based number lines were effective for students with intellectual disability. However, the app-based number line was slightly more effective in terms of accuracy and completion time during number comparison and price comparison tasks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urban environments, university campuses, and public and private buildings often present architectural barriers that prevent people with disabilities and special needs to move freely and independently. This paper presents a systematic mapping study of the scientific literature proposing devices, and software applications aimed at fostering accessible wayfinding and navigation in indoor and outdoor environments. We selected 111 out of 806 papers published in the period 2009–2020, and we analyzed them according to different dimensions: at first, we surveyed which solutions have been proposed to address the considered problem; then, we analyzed the selected papers according to five dimensions: context of use, target users, hardware/software technologies, type of data sources, and user role in system design and evaluation. Our findings highlight trends and gaps related to these dimensions. The paper finally presents a reflection on challenges and open issues that must be taken into consideration for the design of future accessible places and of related technologies and applications aimed at facilitating wayfinding and navigation. Identifying tobacco use status is essential to address use and provide resources to help patients quit. Being able to collect this information in an electronic format will become increasingly important, as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has included the assessment of tobacco use as part of its Stage 1 Meaningful Use criteria. The objective was to compare the accuracy of online vs. paper assessment methods to ascertain cigarette smoking status using a face-to-face structured interview as the gold standard. This was a retrospective analysis of a stratified opportunity sample of consecutive patients, reporting in 2010 for a periodic health evaluation, who completed either a scannable paper-based form or an online questionnaire and underwent a standardized rooming interview. Compared with face-to-face structured interview, the overall observed agreement and kappa coefficient for both methods combined (paper and online) were 97.7% and 0.69 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.51-0.86) . For the online form they were 97.4% and 0.61 (95% CI 0.33-0.90), and for the paper form they were 97.9% and 0.75 (95% CI 0.54-0.96). There was no statistically significant difference in agreement between the online and paper-based methods ( P=0.76) compared with a face-to-face structured interview. Online assessment of tobacco use status is as accurate as a paper questionnaire, and both methods have greater than 97% observed agreement with a face-to-face structured interview. Abstract: Planning is motivated by acting. Most of the existing work on automated planning underestimates the reasoning and deliberation needed for acting; it is instead biased towards path-finding methods in a compactly specified state-transition system. Researchers in this AI field have developed many planners, but very few actors. We believe this is one of the main causes of the relatively low deployment of automated planning applications. In this paper, we advocate a change in focus to actors as the primary topic of investigation. Actors are not mere plan executors: they may use planning and other deliberation tools, before and during acting. This change in focus entails two interconnected principles: a hierarchical structure to integrate the actorʼs deliberation functions, and continual online planning and reasoning throughout the acting process. In the paper, we discuss open problems and research directions toward that objective in knowledge representations, model acquisition and verification, synthesis and refinement, monitoring, goal reasoning, and integration. The development of the education industry benefits from the continuous progress and updates of internet technology, and the organic integration of the two can further promote the emergence of the LMS (Learning Management System) system. Based on the application characteristics of the LMS system and the characteristics of the Software as a Service online education management system, a Software as a Service online education management system based on the extended LMS system was constructed. The service mode of the system was analysed, and a solution to the problem of paper formation and an analysis of the automatic paper formation algorithm in the system were provided. In addition, further research was conducted on the scores of the credibility evaluation of the system's services under different attribute parameters. Through the correlation analysis between different attributes and the credibility evaluation scores of the Software as a Service system, it can be seen that among the selected attribute parameters, Response Time and Latency show a negative correlation with the credibility evaluation, while other parameters show a positive correlation. The Software as a Service system constructed in this article provides relevant technical solutions, which have great practical application value and have reference significance for other similar applications. In this paper smart shoes for dementia care using embedded boards and Low Power Wide Area technology and their application software are implemented. The communication board composed of Cortex-M3 board and LoRa module is embedded into groove made in outsole of smart shoes. Including the mold, the shoe outsole was manufactured by hand. By using application software and embedded board, caregiver can track the position of dementia patient using GPS and LoRa network. The location tracking and data transmission operations of smart shoes have been successfully verified in the outdoor environment. The smart shoes of this paper are applicable to a safety device to prevent the disappearance of demented patients through results of experiments and if bigdata is collected and analyzed by deep-learning, it may be helpful to analyze the predictive path of dementia patients or the pattern of dementia. Abstract: This paper proposes the concept and the technology of social networking federation as a paradigm where information on various social network systems can be seamlessly integrated in order to provide users a uniform and semantic view of their social connections. Such a uniformly fused social network provides a single point of access where all information with respect to one’s social networks can be queried and reasoned about. The goal of the research is to establish a foundation of integrating and assimilating information within multiple social network systems. A computer is a vital tool for UUM community in doing routine jobs and activities. Spending many hours using a computer without breaks can cause bad effect on users' health. Inappropriate computer use can cause muscle and joint pain, overuse injuries of the shoulder, arm, wrist or hand, and eyestrain. Fortunately, this pain and misery can be avoided with only a few simple routines. Therefore, a short break from using a computer is necessary. The break could be filled with a short and simple exercise. Physical exercise can provide many benefits to individual and organization. Besides improving the productivity of the organization, physical exercise also can help staff and students to be more focused, stay alert, feel motivated, energetic, and have less stress. In response to this, this paper introduces a digital health application to create health awareness among the UUM community. The methods employed in the study are a preliminary investigation, requirement gathering and analysis, prototype development, and prototype validation. From the requirement analysis phase, 11 criteria were gathered and applied in designing the Digital Healthy Lifestyle Application prototype. One of the key components of computer vision applications like satellite and remote sensing and medical diagnosis is multi-modal image fusion. There are various multi-modal image fusion techniques, and each has advantages and disadvantages of its own. This paper proposes a new method based on multi-scale guided filtering. Initially, each source image is divided into coarse and fine layers at various scales using a guided filter. In order to fuse coarse and fine layers, two different saliency maps are used: an energy saliency map to coarse layers and a modified spatial frequency energy saliency map to fine levels. According to the simulation results, the suggested technique performs better in terms of quantitative evaluations of quality than other state-of-the-art techniques. The continuous development of software applications is a necessary step in producing high-quality products that will consistently meet end-user expectations and stakeholder needs. Development of Arduino applications, embedded in a product's hardware, can and should be considered at the software engineering phase itself, even though current practice dictates it be handled by product engineers. The method used in this investigation was based on a systematic literature review (SLR). Therefore, this paper depicts a gap that currently exists within the body of literature surrounding the development of Arduino applications for 'internet of things' (IoT) applications in software engineering education in commercial and research fields. The result of this study are two findings investigates: i) relevant Arduino application development used in software engineering and ii) method for applying software engineering for Arduino applications. The limitations and constraints of each technique in respect to Arduino apps were also examined in order to provide a better understanding of each body of study's weaknesses and strengths. Linear Logic is a versatile framework with diverse applications in computer science and mathematics. One intriguing fragment of Linear Logic is MultiplicativeAdditive Linear Logic (MALL), which forms the exponential-free component of the larger framework. Modifying MALL, researchers have explored weaker logics such as Noncommutative MALL (Bilinear Logic, BL) and Cyclic MALL (CyMALL) to investigate variations in commutativity. In this paper, we focus on Cyclic Nonassociative Bilinear Logic (CyNBL), a variant that combines noncommutativity and nonassociativity. We introduce a sequent system for CyNBL, which includes an auxiliary system for incorporating nonlogical axioms. Notably, we establish the cut elimination property for CyNBL. Moreover, we establish the strong conservativeness of CyNBL over Full Nonassociative Lambek Calculus (FNL) without additive constants. The paper highlights that all proofs are constructed using syntactic methods, ensuring their constructive nature. HCD framework, also known as Human Centered Design, is one of the impactful frameworks which focuses on understanding the end user for their needs, constraints, and behaviors. Design Thinking is another framework that helps in designing user-centric applications in a way that is intuitive and natural. This paper discusses the author's interest in proving that it matters whether someone builds a new application using HCI principles. This is an important issue to discuss because many HCI professionals and researchers think that the conclusion is obvious i.e. that of course it matters and that we should build an application with an end user in mind and then test it with a subset of said users. However, most application developers disagree and actually build their applications using a 'field of dreams approach' i.e. if I build it. they will come. Background Pro-smoking applications (app) provide information about brands of tobacco products, where to buy them, and encourage their use. It is unclear in which countries these apps are being downloaded, or whether app stores play a role in promoting or regulating these apps, particularly those that appear to target children. Method The lifetime popularity of 107 pro-smoking apps was investigated, using a third-party app metrics service that aggregates data from app stores about app download popularity by country. Apps were deemed popular if at any time in their lifespan they achieved a top 25 ranking overall across all apps, or a top 25 ranking in any particular category of apps, such as ‘educational games'. Results Fifty-eight pro-smoking apps reached ‘popularity' status in Apple and Android stores in one or more of 49 countries, particularly Italy, Egypt, Germany, Belgium and the USA. The daily downloads in each country ranged from approximately 2000 to 80 000. The Apple store featured five of the pro-smoking apps in various categories, and two apps were featured by the Android market. Two pro-smoking apps in the Apple store were extremely popular in the ‘Educational Games' and ‘Kids' Games' categories. Conclusions Pro-smoking apps were popular in many countries. Most apps were assigned to entertainment and games categories, with some apps specifically targeting children through placement in categories directed at children. Introduction: Postpartum depression (PPD) affects up to one in five mothers and birthing parents. Understanding their perceptions of therapeutic interventions is key to their effectiveness and scalability. Aim: The aim of the study was to understand participants' experiences attending an in‐person or online 1‐day cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)‐based workshop for PPD and compare their experiences participating in either modality. Method: This descriptive qualitative study was embedded in two separate randomized controlled trials evaluating the effectiveness of 1‐day CBT‐based workshops for PPD delivered in‐person or online. Responses were provided by 94 in‐person and 95 online participants about their experiences. Content analysis was used to code and categorize the data. Results: Participants appreciated learning skills to improve PPD symptoms and joining a community of individuals with shared experiences. Integrating practical coping techniques after the workshop was reported to be most useful, though some wanted additional post‐workshop support. Online participants identified additional barriers to workshop engagement. Discussion: Participants who attended either workshop found them to be valuable and effective. Participants valued psychoeducation, social connections and applying practical CBT techniques. Implications for Practice: One‐day CBT‐based workshops may be an accessible treatment option for individuals with PPD, providing new skills and social support, though some prefer to receive additional post‐workshop support. The article reports on a database system created by Geisinger Medical Laboratories that contains the digital files of all the home phlebotomy patients, both active and discharged. Discussed are the database's functionality including the ability to maintain patient records and the ability to search for patient's past, present and future draws, and the facility's move toward a paperless system. Introduction: Electronic sick leave certificates, called e-ZLA, were being implemented nationwide in Poland from 1 January 1 2016 until 30 November 30 2018. During the time of implementation doctors in Poland could issue sick leave certificates alternatively in electronic or in the paper form. Since 1 December 2018 sick leave certificates are to be issued in the whole Poland electronically only. Practice change: Paper form certificates in Medical and Diagnostic Centre (CMD) - an integrated care organization located in Siedlce (Poland) used to be prepared with the help of the registration or nurse staff. The average work time consumed for that process was calculated in CMD for 13 minutes per one paper form certificate. CMD is serving approximately 85000 patients and issues about 1500 sick leaves certificates every month. Therefore, CMD made an effort of rapid implementation of electronic sick leave certificates issuing. Aim and theory of change: The vendor of computer application for managing of health care related processes introduced in February 2018 in CMD's client application a new functionality of issuing electronic sick leave certificates. The personnel of CMD was trained adequately. Timeline: The first e-ZLA in the CMD was issued on 20February 2018. After short period of time when the correctness of sickleaves certificates issued via client application was being verified, the change was implemented in the whole organization. Highlights: The concept of having an e-certificate uploaded and stored within the system was highly appreciated by CMD staff. The average time of e-ZLA issuing and its online transmission is 2-3 min compared to 13 min for managing paper-form sick leave certificates. Between 20 February 2018 and 30 November 2018, CMD doctors used to issue about 1200 e-ZLAs monthly. The necessity of writing multiple sick leave certificates for patients having more than one employer was also eliminated. This system allows also for review the history of e-ZLAs received by the patient and thus prevent potential abuses. Conclusions: As a result of e-ZLA introduction, the registration staff and nurses were relieved from paper work related to issuing paper-form certificates and additional administrative tasks related to providing copies of sick leave certificates to health insurer branches. Decrease of paper work burden resulted in saving of time which could be sacrificed for patients. With the development of the brake-by-wire system, more and more advanced driver assistance systems have been applied to automobiles. The brake-by-wire system can collect the driver's braking intention through the displacement sensor and thus realize accurate braking by the motor. Based on the brake-by-wire system, we design an algorithm that can realize the vehicle Comfort Stop Technology (CST) in this paper. The CST can control the drop and rise of brake fluid pressure during the braking stop of the vehicle, and therefore reduce the sharp feeling of front and back pitching during the braking stop. Finally, through real car verification, the functional algorithm designed in this paper can improve the nodding feeling of the vehicle by reducing the deceleration of the vehicle during braking. Objective: This paper explores machine learning methods for exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) diagnostics. Traditional diagnostic approaches like CLE scoring face subjectivity, limiting precise objective assessments. Machine learning is introduced as a theoretical solution to potentially overcome these limitations and improve diagnostic precision. Methods: A narrative review was conducted to explore the integration of machine learning techniques in the diagnostics of EILO. Result: Three machine learning methods for the segmentation of laryngeal images were discovered: fully convolutional network, Mask R-CNN, and 3D VOSNet. Our findings reveal that the integration of machine learning with EILO diagnostics remains a largely untapped research domain, providing significant room for further exploration. Conclusions: The integration of ML techniques for EILO diagnostics has the potential to be a helpful tool for clinicians. The application of computer vision ML methods, such as image segmentation, to delineate laryngeal structures paves the way for a more objective assessment. While challenges persist, especially in differences in patients' laryngeal anatomy, the synergy of ML and medical expertise is an important field to explore in the years to come. Maritime transport helps the development of the economy of countries. Improving the current situation in this type of transport requires the application of modern software tools for assessment, analysis and forecasting. The aim of this paper is to suggest an approach for an in-depth analysis of marine traffic near to independent ports. This approach is tested and validated for the Varna and Constanta ports for the period 2004–2021. Data from Eurostat are used. This paper proposes a new methodology for an in-depth analysis and forecasting of marine traffic of independent nearby ports using public data. Correlations, multiple regression, graphical methods, seasonality and trendlines are used to test and validate the proposed methodology. The results show that the proposed methodology may be applied for other independent ports and periods. The results show some interesting facts about the analyzed ports of Varna and Constanta. Our initial assumptions that these two independent ports have similar seasonality is rejected. The novelty of the paper refers to a new methodology for the in-depth analysis and forecasting of marine traffic of independent nearby ports using public data. Using the methodology in this paper (for an in-depth analysis of marine traffic of independent nearby ports) similar research may be done for other nearby ports and periods. Other research may focus on finding the specific types of cargo for each port influencing the differences in seasonality. The creation of blockchain-based software applications requires today considerable technical knowledge, particularly in software design and programming. This is regarded as a major barrier in adopting this technology in business and making it accessible to a wider audience. As a solution, low-code and no-code approaches have been proposed that require only little or no programming knowledge for creating full-fledged software applications. In this paper we extend a review of academic approaches from the discipline of model-driven engineering as well as industrial low-code and no-code development platforms for blockchains. This includes a content-based, computational analysis of relevant academic papers and the derivation of major topics. In addition, the topics were manually evaluated and refined. Shrimp farming has traditionally served as a crucial source of seafood and revenue for coastal countries. However, with the rapid development of society, conventional small-scale manual shrimp farming can no longer meet the increasing demand for rapid growth. As a result, it is imperative to continuously develop automation technology for efficient large-scale shrimp farming. Smart shrimp farming represents an innovative application of advanced technologies and management practices in shrimp aquaculture to expand the scale of production. Nonetheless, the use of these new technologies is not without difficulties, including the scarcity of public datasets and the high cost of labeling. In this paper, we focus on the application of advanced computer vision techniques to shrimp farming. To achieve this objective, we first establish a high-quality shrimp dataset for training various deep learning models. Subsequently, we propose a method that combines unsupervised learning with downstream instance segmentation tasks to mitigate reliance on large training datasets. Our experiments demonstrate that the method involving contrastive learning outperforms the direct fine-tuning of an instance segmentation model for shrimp in instance segmentation tasks. In two studies, students at California State University, Northridge wrote papers that were checked for plagiarism using plagiarism-detection software. In the first study, half of the students in two classes were randomly selected and told by the professor that their term papers would be scanned for plagiarism using the software. Students in the remainder of each class were not informed that the software would be used. The researcher predicted that students who were explicitly warned about the use of the software would plagiarize less than students who were not, but the warning had no effect. In a second study, students wrote two papers in a series. Their knowledge about plagiarism-detection software was inversely correlated with plagiarism rates on the first paper, but no correlation was found between knowledge and plagiarism on the second paper.
