Electronic health records provide a vast amount of text health data written by physicians as patient clinical notes. The world health organization released the international classification of diseases version 10 (ICD-10) system to monitor and analyze clinical notes. ICD-10 is system physicians and other healthcare providers use to classify and code all diagnoses and symptom records in conjunction with hospital care. Therefore, the data can be easily stored, retrieved, and analyzed for decision-making. In order to address the problem, this paper introduces a system to classify the clinical notes to ICD-10 codes. This paper examines 7541 clinical notes collected from a health institute in Jordan and annotated by ICD-10's coders. In addition, the research uses another outsource dataset to augment the actual dataset. The research presented many approaches, such as the baseline and pipeline models. The Baseline model employed several methods like Word2vec embedding for representing the text. The model structure also involves long-short-term memory a convolutional neural network, and two fully-connected layers. The second Pipeline approach adopts the transformer model, such as Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), which is pre-trained on a similar health domain. The Pipeline model builds on two BERT models. The first model classifies the category codes representing the first three characters of ICD-10. The second BERT model uses the outputs from the general BERT model (first model) as input for the special BERT (second model) to classify the clinical notes into total codes of ICD-10. Moreover, Baseline and Pipeline models applied the Focal loss function to eliminate the imbalanced classes. However, The Pipeline model demonstrates a significant performance by evaluating it over the F1 score, recall, precision, and accuracy metric, which are 92.5%, 84.9%, 91.8%, and 84.97%, respectively. Jordanian healthcare institutes have launched several programs since 2009 to establish health information systems (HISs). Nowadays, the generic expectation is that the use of HIS resources is performed on daily basis among healthcare staff. However, there can be still a noticeable barrier due to a lack of knowledge if medical doctors do not receive proper training on existing HISs. Moreover, the lack of studies on this area hinders the clarity about the received versus the required training skills among medical doctors. To support this research initiative, survey data have been collected from specialized medical doctors who are currently affiliated with five Jordanian universities to assess their need for HIS training. The results also aim to explore the extent of medical doctors' use of HIS resources in Jordan. Moreover, they examine whether medical doctors require additional training on using HIS resources or not, as well as the main areas of required training programs. Specifically, this paper highlights the main topics that can be suitable subjects for enhanced training programs. The results show that most respondents use HISs in their daily clinical practices. However, most of them have not taken professional training on such systems. Hence, most of the respondents reported the need for additional training programs on several aspects of HIS resources. Moreover, based on the survey results, the most significant areas that require training are biomedical data analysis, artificial intelligence in medicine, health care management, and recent advances in electronic health records, respectively. Therefore, specialized medical doctors in Jordan need training on extracting useful and potential features of HISs. Education and training professionals in healthcare are recommended to establish training programs in Jordanian healthcare centers, which can further improve the quality of healthcare. This research paper describes the accounting practices of Jordanian companies engaged in agricultural activities, and identifies the influence of company characteristics on measurement practices related to asset pricing and level of disclosure required by IAS 41. Company characteristics were considered as: size, intensity of biological assets (BA), level of international activities, and audit for the Big Four. Dependent variables were considered measurement practices related to valuing BA as well as resultant harvest and disclosure level, the latter being measured by mandatory and voluntary disclosures. The entire population of companies that include one or more agricultural activities in their purposes and are considered reporting companies formed the research sample, giving a total of 259 companies. The findings revealed that both intensity of BA and level of international activities have a positive impact on measurement practices. Audit for the Big Four was the strongest variable influence, the overall disclosure level prescribed by IAS 41, followed by the level of international activities variable. However, the intensity of the BA variable affects only the overall disclosure level for companies that measure their BA based on the cost method. Firm size was found to have no influence on either measurement practices or disclosure level. The key value of this paper is its examination of the role of company characteristics on measurement practices and level of disclosure required by IAS 41 in the context of Jordanian companies. Through this examination, this study is helpful to standards setters and regulators who obligate and issue the financial regulation and reporting standards at a national or international level, supporting their understanding of measurement and disclosure practices adopted in agricultural companies in the developing country context of Jordan. This study aims at presenting newly-found safaitic inscriptions discovered in the Black Desert, north-eastern Jordan by the Badia Epigraphic Survey (BES) during the second (2017) field season at Wādī ar-Ru'aylah and in Wādī Suway'id. Through this paper, we aim to explain the toponyms Gl'd and Ngd in the Safaitic inscriptions, shed light on their interpretation in Safaitic and give translation and some commentary. This paper provides a comparison of inscriptions that mention these two toponyms in order to determine whether those names belong to a toponym or an adjective of a toponym. The prevalence of needy-students who cannot afford their university fees has become a phenomenon in countries like Jordan. Thus, supporting such students by establishing a reliable cloud-based platform for collecting donations from wealthy people is a very noble action. Such donations will enable needy-students to continue their education to up their development, reduce their poverty, improve their health, scale-up their gender equality, promote peace across their communities, enhance stability in their societies, and enrich the field of cloud-based services development. This paper proposes a new cloud-based platform that aims at connecting donors with needy-students in a very discrete way that preserves and honors the privacy and confidentiality of their information. We claim that our proposed cloud-based platform depicts a unique novelty that can be easily anticipated from the perspectives of its status as a cloud-based donations and financial support services platform; its ability to interconnect its users privately and confidentially; and its ability to easily verify the credentials of its users and confirm their eligibility to receive financial support. However, the fast expansion of urban development affects the image of city and its fabric toward the mega scale and transforms cities local cultural life as loosing most of their historic fabrics. The current paper aims to investigate the moderating role of liquidity in the relationship between accounting and advertising expenditures and the financial performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Jordan. Furthermore, the present paper highlights the importance of managing expenditures and improving financial performance. Since the performance of Jordanian SMEs is extremely critical, furthermore, the present paper explores the possibility of empowering these businesses in order to achieve profitability. This paper is based on descriptive statistics, regression, and correlation analysis in order to analyze the data, collecting secondary data from 200 SMEs. The results demonstrate that accounting expenditures are key factors for financial performance, especially in SMEs. Moreover, SMEs are more sensitive to liquidity challenges, which significantly impact their short-term expenditure and consequently influence their financial performance. It is evident that accounting expenditures moderated by liquidity have a positive effect on the financial performance of SMEs. However, our findings indicate a negative effect regarding the relationship between advertising expenditures and financial performance. In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to the ways refugees in displacement manage to organize themselves and act upon their needs. The growing recognition in the UN system of the importance of localization of aid and the potential role played by local actors has given refugee-led organizations (RLO) a space to grow. In this paper, we analyze refugee agency and solidarity through the organization of the refugee communities in Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon. In doing so, we examine: (1) the reasons behind the creation of these organizations and their dynamics; (2) the role of host states toward this drive to organize refugee communities; and (3) the patterns, forms, and structures that these organizations take in providing humanitarian services, as well as community support and empowerment. Inadequate staffing and long waiting times in hospital emergency rooms are key concerns that can have a negative impact on patient safety and health, as well as the hospital's overall performance. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the scope of combining the DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, and control) methodology with discrete event simulation and to explore its successful deployment in the Jordanian healthcare sector. The study discussed in this paper is based on a case study conducted utilizing the DMAIC and simulation technique and its application in reducing waiting time and enhancing overall system efficiency in Jordan's Princess Rahma hospital's pediatric emergency department. The study shows improvements in the performance of the process and thus productivity in the emergency department through adapting the combined Six Sigma DES methodology. This paper investigates the notion of the financial Kuznets curve in an emerging country—Jordan. Both variants of the financial Kuznets curve (growth financial Kuznets curve and inequality financial Kuznets curve) have been examined using different time series methodologies applying to a sample period from 1993 to 2017. The unobserved components model results provide evidence for both variants of the financial Kuznets curve when using private credit to GDP as a proxy for financial-sector development. Moreover, non-nested model tests suggest that financial intermediaries are relatively more important than stock markets for income inequality. Overall, this paper provides evidence for the financial Kuznets curve in emerging countries. Moreover, it provides new insights for policymakers in Jordan in their challenge to boost economic growth and decelerate income inequality, by reversing the trend towards the concentration of power in the financial sector and creating public-financial institutions that provide affordable credit to small businesses and households. This paper examines the sociopragmatic functions of death formulas used by Bedouins in eastern Jordan. It emphasizes discourse strategies Bedouins use, such as euphemisms and politeness, to refer to the deceased or to announce someone's death. The researchers collected 32 authentic expressions commonly used in death discourse. They examined and categorized them in light of the following sociopragmatic theories: politeness theory, Grice's maxims of conversation, and Austin's theory of speech acts. Seven strategies for using euphemisms in Bedouins' speech were elicited and analyzed in sections. The analysis reveals that death formulas serve contextual functions, such as maintaining social rapport, expressing condolences, and highlighting the predestination of death and life by God. This study adds to our understanding of Bedouin language and cultural practices in eastern Jordan, and it has practical implications for cross-cultural communication. Individuals can enhance mutual understanding and constructive connections with Bedouin communities in Jordan and worldwide by recognizing and respecting these cultural customs. Uncontrolled urbanization in developing countries provides opportunities to create changes in cultural heritage. However, the relationship between the urbanization process and changes that appeared over time in cultural heritage buildings needs to be thoroughly investigated and empirically examined. This paper fills this gap by examining As-Salt in Jordan as a city inscribed on the World Heritage List. A crosssectional survey methodology was adopted to collect data. The findings reveal that urbanization has led to physical changes in heritage buildings at a medium level. The number of occupants and rental revenues have contributed significantly to changes in heritage buildings. The study suggests that the impact of urbanization on heritage buildings can be controlled if urban policies consider the socioeconomic benefits of heritage buildings for residents. Future research is encouraged to further explore the topic by examining other cities in the Middle East since comparative research can enrich knowledge and improve urban policies to manage cultural heritage efficiently. This research paper aims to investigate Article 332 of the Jordanian Penal Code No. 16 of 1960, which punishes a mother because of maternal infanticide in Jordan when committed by mothers to avoid disgrace. Through thorough analysis, this research seeks to shed light on the multifaceted dimensions of this problem and suggest potential solutions. The article adopted both descriptive and analytical approaches to conclude the results through the legal interpretation of the text and a review of the jurisprudence opinion and the judiciary’s diligence (case law) on related issues. The article grasped several results, the most prominent of which is that the legislator did not specify what is meant by the terms mentioned in the text, which led to a difference in their interpretation, and because of this reason the legislator envisaged reducing this type of killing contradicts the punishment it established. This research explores the penal protections embedded within the legal framework for waste management, with a specific focus on the management of electrical and electronic waste (e-waste). The article aims to describe the legal and factual facts of acts constituting environmental crimes and their compatibility with the provisions of the Framework Law on Waste Management No. 16 of 2020 in Jordan. In addition to explaining the guidelines for the environmentally sound management of e-waste equipment from information technology. The paper also identifies the problems faced by Jordanian legislators in implementing the strategy for the sound management of electrical and electronic equipment wastes through a special system for the management of electrical and electronic wastes. Provisions on penal liability for damages should be added with the status of judicial officer of the Ministry of Environment to ensure that the law is enforced in a manner conducive to the rule of environmental law, and adding urgency to environmental issues, particularly those related to hazardous wastes, and dealing with them quickly. Achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a strategic objective of the Jordanian government and has been prioritized in its strategies and plans. However, there are several challenges affecting primary healthcare in Jordan and the health system in general that prevent Jordan from achieving UHC. This paper highlights the importance of team-based care in the form of Family Health Teams (FHTs) to realize Jordan's goal of achieving UHC. FHTs are a team-based approach that brings together diverse professionals to provide a comprehensive, efficient, patient-centered primary care system that meets the changing needs of Jordan's population and refugees. However, the implementation of FHT may encounter obstacles, including individual, organizational, institutional, and external barriers. To overcome such obstacles, several actions and processes need to be taken, including political commitment and leadership, implementing good governance and policy frameworks, allocating resources and funding, multisectoral collaboration, and engagement of communities and stakeholders. The successful implementation of FHTs requires participation from government officials, parliamentarians, civil society, and influential community, religious, and business leaders. A strategic policy framework, effective oversight, coalition building, regulation, attention to system design, and accountability are also essential. In conclusion, adopting the FHT approach in Jordan's Primary Healthcare system offers a promising path towards achieving UHC, improving healthcare access, quality, and efficiency while addressing the unique challenges faced by the country's healthcare system. This paper explores how Jordanians violated and flouted Grice's Cooperative Principle maxims and the purposes behind their non-observance in creating Arabic humor related to the COVID-19 pandemic on AlMamlaka and Roya Jordanians' Facebook accounts. The study conducted qualitative content analysis on 12 Facebook comments from March to September 2020 and found that Jordanians violated and flouted all the maxims to convey their hidden messages. The analysis revealed that the purposes of the non-observance were to generate implicatures and highlight various issues faced by Jordanians during the pandemic. These issues included government announcements, non-compliance with health guidelines, conspiracy theories about the virus's origin, impacts on family relationships, discomfort from wearing masks, the boredom of lockdown and some geographical areas targeted for their early source of spreading the virus. The findings indicate that humor can serve as an effective tool for highlighting social and political issues. The study recommends exploring the non-observance of cooperative maxims in different contexts and how it affects the interpretation and reception of humor. Purpose: The commonly used e-procurement systems still show unsatisfactory implementation outcomes because many organisations are still unable to effectively interpret the initial adoption decision. The e-procurement systems are generally developed at organisational level, but their usage is at individual level, by the employees particularly. This paper examined technology acceptance model's (TAM) key antecedents, involving e-procurement systems usage by employees in their daily activities. This study aims to examine the impact of factors affecting e-procurement acceptance among users through the mediating role of users' attitude. The commonly used e-procurement systems still show. Design/methodology/approach: TAM was applied and expanded in this study, in exploring the factors impacting the employees' e-procurement acceptance. This study used quantitative method, and questionnaires were distributed to 200 users in Jordanian public shareholding firms. The collected data were quantitatively analysed using PLS modelling. Findings: Significant TAM relationships involving e-procurement were affirmed. The expanded TAM in the scrutiny of antecedents showed that content, processing and usability affected perceived usefulness, while perceived convenience did not affect the usefulness factor. Furthermore, it was noticed that perceived ease of use was affected by usability and training, while perceived connectedness was not affected by usability and training. Practical implications: The results demonstrated the necessity of e-procurement training. Furthermore, at the start of the implementation stage, effective design on system navigation and system usability, and consistent support, could increase use effectiveness and acceptance. Also, expedient information and buyer–supplier product flows should be made available. Originality/value: Most organizations invest a lot of time and money in installing e-procurement systems to deliver their goods at the right time and at the right price. However, many of these e-procurement systems have failed due to low acceptance among users. Thus, to the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study that used TAM and theory of planned behaviour in examining the effects of perceived convenience, perceived connectedness, content, training, processing and usability factors, in Jordanian firms. Lastly, the focus of this study was on the individual employee's acceptance, rather than on the organisational-level adoption, as the unit of analysis, to provide insight on how organisations can achieve maximally from e-procurement investments and from other comparable technologies of e-supply chain management. Many English courses at the tertiary level are inaptly overlaid with language skills with the bare minimum of phonological and pronunciation ones. They are, in fact, merely lame attempts made to create as comprehensive, integral and perfect proficiency in English as possible from which learners would dubiously benefit. The purpose underlying this paper is to move on pronunciation skills and items from its narrow role played in English syllabus design into a newer and broader context that relevantly meets students' perspective needs of linguistic intelligibility. The absence, albeit the exclusion, of phonological theory from English courses implicitly leads to an untenable situation in which learners' goal of learning English is no longer communicative but rather becomes entirely individually oriented. The paper seeks to detect both the points of weakness and strength in light of the availability of phonological skills in two English courses taught in University of Petra/Jordan. One of the influential results reached by the paper is that phonological skills are not only basic components in any English-course syllabi, but they also form integrity with other linguistic ones. This paper aims to analyze and evaluate the function of two types of ancient mortars in the bathhouse at al-Muwaqqar archaeological site in Jordan to promote the awareness level of cultural heritage conservation of ancient buildings and mortars in Jordan. The conservation of archaeological structures requires a thorough characterization and identification of the mortar components before carrying out the restoration, after the preserved results, and during the restoration process to decide how it responds. This work creates an experimental contribution through FTIR to study the influence of organic components on the mechanical performance of the mortar. The application of new techniques in terms of sustainability and compatibility is nowadays more and more important to preserve historical monuments, especially in the context of the increasing damage to the mortar joints in the al-Muwaqqar site. The paper presents new results concerning the identification of the binding materials of mortars, especially the organic parts as egg white or other organic components used in the bathhouse to connect the mosaics, and the collection of further information for compatibility challenges. The results will provide a new pioneering approach application in Jordan in the field of ancient restoration using mortar. The study concludes that it is easy to identify all the organic components of the mortar using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in the different bands of the organic material supported by thermogravimetric analysis TGA/SEMEDX. After viewing Jordan energy sector development through the period (1996 - 2022), this paper used ARIMA model to forecast Energy Consumptions in Jordan up to 2030 by sector. Augmented Dicky Fuller test is used to test stationarity of each sector data set, followed by differencing when required. Additionally, ACF and PACF tests have been done to find p and q parameters of the ARIMA model for each sector, and finally mean absolute percentage error s MAPE were calculated to validate the forecasting results. Main findings were that total final consumption will reach (7045 ktoe) by 2030 with the expected values of [1548, 1112, 3431, 708 and 665] ktoe for Residential, Industrial, Transport, Commercial and Other consumption sectors respectively in the same year. This paper is an exploration of Arab American identity in Laila Halaby's novel West of the Jordan in relation to postcolonialism. The purpose of this paper is to trace Arab American identity development West of the Jordan and to negotiate how the Arab American identity manifested itself in hte diaspora to create a rhizomatic identity whose multiplicity denies singularity. The process of identity negotiation for bicultural individuals is psychologically challenging. Arab Americans in particular deal with this process in an environment where they are continuously viewed as "The Other." Using the concepts of Homi Bhabha, Edward Said, and Stuart Hall in relation to the postcolonial theory, as well as Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari's concepts of the rhizomatic identity, the study analyzes how Arab American identities are represented in the work of Halaby. This paper examines how forcibly displaced people cope with prolonged liminality through identity work. Our paper is based on a longitudinal multiple case study of women refugees who fled Syria and experienced liminality in Amman-Jordan, the Zaatari Refugee Camp in Jordan and the United Kingdom. We contribute to the liminality literature by demonstrating how forcibly displaced people respond to extreme structural constraints and maintain cognitive control over their sense of self during liminality with an end date that is unknown. We develop the concept of liminality by illustrating how the actors were pushed into a state of 'indeterminate liminality' and coped by co-constructing it through three forms of identity work – recomposing conflicting memories, reclaiming existence and repositioning tradition. This enabled them to stretch the boundaries of indeterminate liminality, symbolically restore their familiar past and narratively construct a meaningful future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Jordan is a country with a population that increases steadily but is punctuated by waves of refugees. Henceforth, Jordan will be destabilized with prolonged and potential water shortages. With both climate and population changes, the nation needs to implement comprehensive reform. In many cases, raising the height of an existing dam would help reduce the gap between the sources and water demands. Consequently, the original Wala dam in Jordan with a capacity of 9.3 million cubic meters (MCM) was raised to achieve a capacity of 25 MCM. The Wala dam was raised uniquely and unusually, which raises concerns about its stability and safety. In this paper, a two-dimensional plane strain model was conducted using finite element modeling (FEM) on the Wala dam to investigate the stability conditions of the raised dam. Several material properties were used in this study. These properties are density, Poisson's ratio, elastic modulus, and friction angle. Stresses and deformations of the new section within the dam body, dam foundation, and an earthfill embankment are presented and compared with the original dam. Results showed that the stresses after raising the height of the dam body are below 1.5 MPa, and it is within the allowable range. Moreover, the stability analysis showed that the stresses and deformation are minimal and negligible. Also, no failure was observed or reported within the soil. Furthermore, a stability analysis of the slip surface of the new body of the dam structure using the finite element method is introduced. Two potential slip surfaces were examined, and a surface-to-surface contact element is modeled to simulate the slip surface. The issue of energy security is becoming very important due to higher standards of living and being the engine for economic development. Hence, recently solar PV systems witnessed high popularity worldwide since it has facilitated the utilization of the untapped potential of solar energy. On-grid PV schemes have become the first option for power generation, among other renewable energy sources, due to low cost of generated power as compared with other systems and short construction time. This paper presents the real performance data of the first large size solar PV project, in Jordan, connected to the medium voltage grid on wheeling basis. The PV station was designed to be installed on south-north axis with an eastwest solar tracking system to enhance electrical energy production. The technical specification and calculated design parameters, such as different losses and energy yield, using the commercial software, PVsyst, were reported and compared with real data from the field. The annual electricity yield, in 2019, was about 3954 MWh with an overall performance ratio of 95%, exceeding all expectations. Unfortunately, little attention has been paid by governmental institutions and/or distribution companies, to the general performance of such plants and variation in rates of production. It is deemed that this paper will answer some of critique questions and fill the gap of information related to the performance of PV power stations, connected to the medium voltage network, under local conditions. Women's economic empowerment and equality are issues in focus for nations across the globe. While many nations have made progress in raising their Female Labor Force Participation (FLFP), an important marker of women's progress, over the past decades Jordan's FLFP has remained largely stagnant. As of 2017, Jordan's FLFP is one of the lowest in the world, lower even than Saudi Arabia and Iran. This paper hopes to illuminate new ways to increase FLFP by focusing on migrant child care labor availability, instead of the often cited cultural or religious explanations. Immigrant child care labor had a notable effect on the FLFP of nations in the Global North, but has been applied less frequently to the Middle East. This paper, by comparing two predominantly Muslim countries, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, will explain how the differing availability of migrant child care has kept Jordan's FLFP below the rest of the region and the world, suggesting that further child care support would be a welcome step toward raising FLFP rates. The paper analyzes listening comprehension of English language skills for tenth grade students at Tabaria high school in the city of Irbid in Jordan. The paper answers the following questions: 1. What are the factors that determine students' interest in learning English? 2. How frequently listening educational instruments are used to improve the listening skills for student? 3. What are the common difficulties that face the respondents in the questionnaire implemented in this paper in terms of listening comprehension? Thus, the paper aims to find the factors influencing English listening comprehension and the strategies to be taken that might improve students’ listening comprehension. The paper indicates that the current problems face students in developing listening comprehension skills are speed speech, limited knowledge of vocabulary, and limited knowledge of the subject in question. Further studies could be conducted to gauge the issue of listening comprehension at the university level-among university students-and the use of listening educational instruments. This paper intends to evaluate the relationship of Electronic Human Resources Management (e-HRM), Perceived Usefulness (PU), e-HRM Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), and Continuance Usage Intention (CUI) in the context of the Jordanian Hotel Sector (JHS) and identify the mediating role of user satisfaction towards e-HRM between e-HRM PEOU, PU, and CUI evident in non-Western contexts and specifically in the Middle East region. An empirical study was carried out in JHS, data were collected from (123) HR professionals are working in 30 Five Stars hotels as a high ranked hotel in Jordan. The primary data collection followed a structured questionnaire. It examined using the 'Structural Equation Modeling' (SEM) methodology to test the relationship and effects among the variables, and for analysis, SPSS and Smart-PLS were applied. from the SEM analysis, it is evident that the measurement model that has been proposed, and structural model is a satisfaction of the necessary fitness conditions, it revealed that e-HRM PEOU was positively related to CUI, while, e-HRM PU showed no significant effect on CUI, user satisfaction showed a direct and positive influence on CUI. As for the indirect impact, e-HRM PU had no immediate impact on CUI and no indirect effect on CUI through user satisfaction e-HRM PEOU was positively related to user satisfaction, which, in turn, was positively related to CUI. Thus, user satisfaction was shown to play a mediating role between e-HRM PEOU and e-HRM CUI. The paper has implications for providing insights for the e-HRM user to manage the usage of e-HRM efficiently. In general, enhancing user satisfaction toward e-HRM can result in a high level of CUI. Purpose: Although the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) emphasize the importance of leaving no one behind, the opposite is happening for the world's 89 million forcibly displaced people who are mostly left out of SDGs' reporting and progress. A key reason for this poor outcome is that host country governments plan refugee camps as short-term shelters, but refugees stay in these camps for more than a decade on average due to ongoing conflicts in their home country. This disparity between intent and reality prevents sustainable living conditions for refugee populations. Operational innovations are needed to find sustainable solutions that ensure a higher quality of life and progress toward sustainability in refugee camps. Design/methodology/approach: Through an abductive case study, the authors develop a theoretical framework on sustainable operational innovations for refugee camps. The authors use this framework to analyze four sustainable operational innovations implemented in three refugee camps in Jordan. Findings: The authors develop three research propositions that describe the conditions required for these operational innovations to succeed: they need to include specific needs and cultural preferences of refugees, they must accommodate host governments' restrictions that limit permanent settlement, and finally, technological innovations require careful data management policies to protect refugees. Doing this, the authors account for the broader political-economic and ecological environments that refugee camps are embedded in. Originality/value: This paper opens a new area of research on sustainable innovation in humanitarian operations. It provides insights into key contingency factors moderating the link between operational innovations and sustainability outcomes. The COVID-19 outbreak pandemic is currently one of the largest challenges facing the world. The pandemic has had an impact on how hospitals are built, how technology is developed, and how information systems are used. Researchers and practitioners in the field of information systems and technology can aid in the analysis of the COVID-19 pandemic by choosing the most optimal building design to impede and stop virus transmission. This study aims to revise the current COVID-19 Hospital Design process in the Management of Pandemic Cases and suggest a process for the hospital management of pandemic cases that will alleviate current and future pandemics. This study used a mixed approach through personal observations, questionnaire surveys, descriptive statistics, correlations, and regression models. The findings were analyzed and revealed the dimensions that need to be considered and that will need to be up to the standard of leading health organizations. People's perceptions about the state of some selected healthcare centers in Jordan were taken and analyzed. Proposals of new hospital building designs and processes of health facilities were undertaken, which can further strengthen the clinical state in Jordan and handle future cases of a pandemic outbreak, with much emphasis on the current COVID-19 outbreak. Lastly, it is highly recommended that this paper be used as a guideline required to fight against any pandemics or endemics both now and in the future, as it lists comprehensive process guidelines to combat any deadly virus, which are shown in detailed photos and process diagrams. This paper presents a unique case of the application of remote sensing methods in archaeological survey devoted to ancient pre-Roman Imperial roads in the Southern Levant. The results of our preparatory remote sensing research and subsequent fieldwork in Jordan and Israel between 22 February and 23 March 2023, within the framework of the research project entitled "Travel and Mobility in Hellenistic and Early Roman Palestine", are reported and discussed. Part of this project is a large-scale, systematic research attempt to discover additional ancient pre-Roman roads and to suggest a working methodology for future research. The methodology is supposed to combine remote sensing research and archaeological survey. The project's first fieldwork achieved several goals. First, the modern methods enabled us to provide a high-resolution capture of the detected features and artifacts, including the courses of ancient roads and the locations of road-related archaeological sites. Altogether, 105 road remains, 62 archaeological sites, and 14 pottery findings were identified; what is more, 11 GPS (Global Positioning System) tracks of ancient roads were registered. Second, we suggested necessary revisions to the previous state of research and reported new findings. For instance, newly discovered rock art evidence found along Glueck's Road confirms the continuity of the use of this road long into late antiquity and early Islam. Third, some methodological conclusions were reached. For example, a multi-source approach to identifying ancient roads including the use of archival cartographic sources, archival and modern satellite and aerial imagery, and the databases of archaeological sites is still necessary. However, there can be no doubt that spatial analyses and remote sensing studies must be accompanied by archaeological fieldwork, which is absolutely necessary for determining the dating of the roads (by dating the settlement and pottery) and a detailed identification of the road courses (particularly through the discovery of road-related infrastructure). The aim of this paper is to empirically study the impact of the motivation-enhancing practices of performance-based rewards and developmental performance appraisal on radical innovation. The effect of innovative work behaviour (IWB) is also considered as a mediator in this relationship. The paper also considers the effect of performance-based rewards and developmental performance appraisal on affective commitment and whether this mechanism can drive employees' IWB. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data from employees working in the telecommunications, mining, pharmaceutical, banking and technological industries in Jordan. The final sample comprised 270 valid responses. Research hypotheses were tested via structural equation modelling (SEM) using AMOS v28 and PROCESS by Hayes to test the mediating effects. The paper found that IWB mediates the relationship between performance-based rewards, developmental performance appraisal and radical innovation because the subsequent effect of IWB on radical innovation was significant and positive. This is also confirmed by the mediation analysis. Findings showed support for the positive impact of performance-based rewards and developmental performance appraisal on affective commitment. Background: Major health inequalities exist surrounding the utilisation of cervical cancer screening services globally. Jordan, a low- and middle-income country, has poor screening rates (15.8%), with barriers to accessing services, including lack of education. Emerging studies demonstrate that intimate partner violence (IPV) impacts reproductive health decisions. As a large proportion of Jordanian women have reported experiencing IPV, this study examines the association between IPV and cervical cancer screening in Jordan, the first of its kind using national-level data. Methods: Using Jordan's Demographic Health Survey 2017–18, cervical cancer screening awareness and self-reported screening were estimated in participants who answered questions on IPV (n = 6679). After applying sample weights, Heckman's two-stage probit model determined the association of awareness and utilisation of cervical cancer screening with experience of IPV, adjusting for the socio-economic factors. Results: Of the women with privacy to answer the IPV module, 180 (3.4%) were found to be victims of sexual violence, 691 of physical violence (12.6%) and 935 (16.2%) of emotional violence. Women subjected to sexual violence were less likely to admit to having awareness of a Pap smear test; however, this did not impact screening rates. Victims of emotional violence were more likely to be screened than non-victims. No association between physical violence and cervical cancer screening was found. Conclusions: A significant association between cervical screening awareness and IPV demonstrates that cancer screening policies must consider IPV among women to improve screening awareness. The paper further sheds light on the paradoxical association between emotional violence and screening. It is acknowledged this situation may be far worse than reported, as women without autonomy were unlikely to answer IPV questions that may endanger them—targeted surveys on cervical cancer screening warrant further investigation. This paper presents the calculation and management of water supply and demand under land use/cover changes in the Yarmouk River Basin in Jordan for the years 1997, 2007 and 2017. It aims to analyze and link the changes in the land classes with the water resources supply demand as the groundwater is unable to meet the inhabitants demand, necessitating land management practices. The method includes deriving land use/cover maps using the supervised classification, identifying basin governorates, cities and villages, calculating the basin governorates' inhabitants, water demand, supply of internal wells, water loss, and actual water consumption. The results showed an increase in the urban area by 3.01%, while forests, rain-fed vegetables and crops declined by 1.57% and 1.09%, respectively. Urbanization appears mainly at the expense of rangelands, an important change affecting water supply from internal wells due to increased pumping to balance population demand. Although it is decreasing per capita, the water demand is high. Changing land use practices, securing inter-basin water resources, and calculating water losses is a challenge of great importance that can manage water shortages and increase actual consumption. Digital technology has become an important part of society and deserves attention and in-depth research, which is still lacking. The study presented in this paper includes international perspectives from six countries and examines which factors influence the use of digital technologies in future pedagogical work in primary schools. Specifically, we investigated how pre-service teachers assess their attitudes, knowledge, and skills towards digital technology, and we determined these factors' role in the pre-service teachers' future use of digital technologies in pedagogical work. For the purpose of the research, an online questionnaire was used, which contained open-ended questions, optional questions, and five-point Likert-type scales, and Spearman correlation and Stepwise linear regression statistical methods were used in the data analysis. The sample consisted of 573 full-time and part-time undergraduate pre-service teachers from the Faculties of Education's higher professional programmes in Norway, Slovenia, Portugal, Turkey, Ukraine, and Jordan. Data were collected between June 2021 and May 2022 and processed using IBM SPSS. The present research showed the significant importance of knowledge and skills about digital technologies and professional attitude towards digital tool factors for pre-service teachers' future professional use of digital technologies. The demonstrated intention of the future use of digital technologies showed the readiness of pre-service teachers regarding the inclusion of digital technologies in pedagogical work. Opportunities for further research are in the implementation of focus groups after surveying pre-service teachers, as well as regular measurements and the inclusion of other important constructs in the regression model. This paper focuses on designing and assessing Pumped Hydroelectric Energy Storage Systems (PHESs) connected to the grid and a PV system for self-consumption constructed at Mutah University in an area of high solar potential. By focusing on the PHES and PV literature, data in the field were acquired based on the grid code needed in Jordan. Next, a search to find a suitable location for installation was conducted. Afterwards, a load profile was added to calculate the energy demand of the university. Then the productivity of the solar power plant of Mutah University was included. Finally, MATLAB software was used to realize the amount of energy to be stored; these data were used to implement the system that was chosen and dimensioned. A PHES layout was created to find the most accurate values for parameters to optimize system performance and to investigate loss analysis. The main finding is that the system attains 9230.89 MWh/year. An annual load yields 4430 MWh/year, which covers the Mutah University demand with an estimated saving of USD 287,607,993. Waste-to-energy (WtE) incineration is an important technique in waste management systems and waste hierarchy. It is used to treat approximately 63% of the waste in European countries. The flue gas volumetric rate and its composition are essential to determine and monitor the emissions from waste incineration plants. This paper presents two methodologies used to evaluate the emissions from incinerators during the design phase. The first consists of a set of equations applicable in Excel (calculation model), while the second is the built-in components in Ebsilon 13.2 software which simulates the emissions from a furnace. This paper also proposes a comprehensive flue gas cleaning system for a simulated waste incineration plant in Jordan. According to Ebsilon, the results showed that for a 25 kg/s loading rate, there was 258,514 mg/Nm3, 749.90 mg/Nm3, 890.20 mg/Nm3, and 717 mg/Nm3 of CO2, NO2, SO2, and HCL, respectively. It was noted that these values relate to 1.5 of excess air ratio, where the effect of excess air ratio as the main driver for any combustion process was examined. The calculation method (set of equations) evaluated the flue gas volumetric rate, the CO2 emissions, and N2O and SO2 levels. Ebsilon allows for simulation of the treatment stages and calculates the amount of materials required. Selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR) (a built-in component in the Ebsilon library) was used to treat the NO2 emissions. For 1.5 of excess air ratio, those emissions were reduced from 749 mg/Nm3 to 180 mg/Nm3, while the Ca(OH)2 injector used to treat the SO2 and HCL emissions reduced emissions from 890.20 mg/Nm3 and 717 mg/Nm3 to 44 mg/Nm3 and 7.16 mg/Nm3, respectively. Regarding the reduction in CO2, the spherical carbon absorption concept was simulated using 9.4 kg/s of carbon which was adequate to verify a 91% reduction rate of CO2. Furthermore, the calculation model was validated and approved as a valuable model to predict the flue gas volume, the oxygen required, and flue gas emissions at the design stage. The Jordan River system is one of the most iconic and most contested river systems in the world. The once "mighty Jordan", which has served as the primary source of water for populations in several countries, is currently a severely denuded river system, with only a fraction of its historic flow. Several initiatives, however, aim to restore some of the basin's flows. This paper will provide a historical overview and analysis of the trajectory of the Jordan River system from being a primary supplier of water to a desiccated shadow of its former glory. It highlights the critical role international borders played in dividing control over the basin, resulting in different types and levels of water scarcity experienced by each of the basin's riparians, each of whom has implemented different strategies to cope with such scarcity. The paper then presents several plans for large-scale interbasin transfers involving desalinated water initiated by basin riparians in attempts to deal with water scarcity and highlights how these planned initiatives are set to transform the basin from a regional supplier of water to a net importer. This paper proposes a power-speed (P-V) model of the wind turbine by assuming three different functions for the first performance region; cubic, quadratic and uncorrected cubic. These three functions have been compared with the manufacturer models of five different wind turbines which were installed in five different locations in Jordan; Tafila, Hofa, Fujeij, Al Rajef, and Deahan. The wind turbine of these wind farms are considered as large scale HAWT in the range of Mw. The generated P-V models are developed by applying a new method described in this paper which is basically based on generating a multiplier factor x. In this study, the quadratic model shows the highest correlation compared with the other models. The wind energy yield for the selected wind farms has been estimated by a mathematical modelling based on Rayleigh distribution function, derived in this paper. The energy yield using this mathematical model has been compared with the measured energy output of four wind farms, Tafila, Hofa, Al Rajef, and Deahan. The measured energy were provided by the operators of these wind farms which are: Jordan Wind Project Company(JWPC), Central Electricity Generation Company (CEGC), Green Watts Renewable Energy (GWRC)and Korean Southern Power Company(KOSPO). Results show that the estimated energy using the quadratic wind turbine model for all wind farms are very close to the actual output. Accuracy analysis for the quadratic model resulted in an error of less than 10% between the measured and estimated energy output for all wind farms. The capacity factors for the selected wind farms have been estimated using the quadratic P-V model. Results show that Tafila wind farm has the highest capacity factor which is around 47%. Endogenous sunk-cost investments are optional fixed investment or capita, that a firm can choose to impact either upon its price-cost margin or its market share for capturing larger market spoils. Oft-cited examples are investments in vertical product (quality) differentiation, advertising outlays, and R&D type expenses for improving production processes. The importance of sunk-cost capital has been highlighted in the recent literature since these investments significantly influence the degree of competition in an industry mainly through forestalling entry and thereby limiting future competition in the industry. Sunk-cost investments play an important role in the debate on the competition-(in)stability perspectives for the banking industry. This paper is motivated by an important distinction, hitherto unrecognized, that some endogenous sunk-cost investments impact on the relative efficiencies of firms and thereby on its market spoils or profits, while others will only impact on its market share and thereby on profits. An example of this distinction is as follows: while quality improvement in a product or production processes will create efficiencies and, therefore, additional profits, while advertising expenses are used to snatch market shares from rivals. The unintended consequence of the first type of endogenous-sunk cost investment is to boost efficiencies and thereby shape the nature of competition in a market. The second type will have little effect on efficiencies. In this paper, by exploiting the above distinction and using a dataset created from the annual reports of nine major Islamic banks in Jordon during 1993-2010, we will apply the efficiency models and the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) methodology to test if information technology (IT) capital is strategically used by Islamic banks as an endogenous sunk-cost investment to boost their relative efficiencies. For the first time--to the best of our knowledge--we find that IT capital is strategically used by seven out of the nine Islamic banks. We then consider the implication of the strategic use of IT capital by Islamic banks for the nature of competition in the Islamic bank industry of Jordon. By so doing, we also argue that IT capital, through its effects on the nature of competition, will lend stability to the Islamic banking industry of Jordan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to study the effect of performance-based rewards on radical innovation. In doing so, it explores the role of knowledge acquisition and innovative work behavior (IWB) as possible mechanisms that underlie the relationship between performance-based rewards and radical innovation. The subsequent effect of IWB on promoting radical innovation is explored. The study employs data from 235 unit managers in manufacturing and technology firms in Jordan. Structural equation modeling was used to test for reliability, validity, and the hypothesized relationships. The results indicate that performance-based rewards positively affect knowledge acquisition. In addition, knowledge acquisition mediates the link between performance-based rewards and IWB. IWB is also significant and positive in promoting radical innovation. This paper is one of the first to examine how radical innovation can be promoted through IWB. It offers insights into and contributions to the literature on the role of performance-based rewards in driving radical innovation through the mediating effect of knowledge acquisition and the subsequent impact of IWB on radical innovation. Medication errors (MEs) present a significant issue in health care area, as they pose a threat to patient safety and could occur at any stage of the medication use process. The objective of this systematic review was to review studies reporting the rates, prevalence, and/or incidence of various MEs in different health care clinical settings in Jordan. We searched PubMed, HINARI, Google, and SCOPUS for relevant published studies. We included observational, cross-sectional or cohort studies on MEs targeting adults in different health-care settings in Jordan. A total of 411 records were identified through searching different databases. Following the removal of duplicates, screening of title, abstract and full-text screening, 24 papers were included for the final review step. Prescribing errors was the most common error reported in the included studies, where it was reported in 15 studies. The prevalence of prescribing errors ranged from 0.1% to 96%. Two studies reported unintentional discrepancies and documentation errors as other types of MEs, where the prevalence of unintentional discrepancies ranged from 47% to 67.9%, and the prevalence of documentation errors ranged from 33.7% to 65%. In conclusion, a wide variation was found between the reviewed studies in the error prevalence rates. This variation may be due to the variation in the clinical settings, targeted populations, methodologies employed. There is an imperative need for addressing the issue of MEs and improving drug therapy practice among health-care professionals by introducing education and training. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the causality between eight purposefully selected variables and the economic growth in two countries (Senegal and Jordan) and to assess the relationship of these variables for the period 1990 to 2020. A time-series econometric technique (Granger causality) has been applied to test the hypothesis of the economic growth pillars in a comparative approach. The dependent variable in the model is the economic growth, measured by the GDP per capita. The eight variables which influence economic growth engines in the target countries for this study (Senegal and Jordan) are: gross fixed capital formation (% of GDP), gross capital formation (% of GDP), population aged 15-64 (% of total population), net official development assistance and official aid received (foreign aid), agriculture added value, industry added value, volume of imports and volume of exports. The results revealed the impact of economic growth drivers on GDP per capita in each country and provide governmental decisionmakers valuable insights on finding the optimal balance between the macroeconomic indicators leading to economic growth. Background: Excessive use of mobile phones leading to development of symptoms suggestive of dependence syndrome with teenagers are far more likely to become dependent on mobile phones as compared to adults. COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the mental health of several groups in society, especially university students. This study aimed to explore the prevalence of mobile phone dependence among university students and its associated factors. Methods: Between September 2021 and January 2022, a cross-sectional study was conducted at universities in Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia utilizing an online and paper-based self-administered questionnaire. We employed a previously developed questionnaire by Aggarwal et al. Results: A total of 5,720 university students were involved in this study (Egypt = 2813, Saudi Arabia = 1509, Jordan = 766, Lebanon = 432, and Bahrain = 200). The mean estimated daily time spent on using mobile phone was 186.4 (94.4) minutes. The highest mobile dependence score was observed for the university students from Egypt and the lowest mobile dependence score was observed for the university students from Lebanon. The most common dependence criteria across the study sample was impaired control (55.6%) and the least common one was harmful use (25.1%). Females and those reported having anxiety problem or using a treatment for anxiety were at higher risk of developing mobile phone dependence by 15% and 75%, respectively. Conclusion: Mobile phone dependence is common among university students in Arab countries in the Middle East region. Future studies exploring useful interventions to decrease mobile phone dependence are warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Irrigation systems to supply water to agricultural land are essential in remote and isolated areas. However, these areas often face challenges and obstacles in obtaining energy for use in irrigation since many depend on diesel generators (DGs) to produce electricity. A farm located in a remote area in Al-Jafr, Jordan, uses a 100 kW DG to supply its need for electric energy for irrigation purposes. Its energy consumption is 500 kWh/day at $0.29/kWh. This paper designs a new hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) for this farm by conducting simulations using the HOMER (Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources) software. This new system consists of solar photovoltaics (PVs), batteries, an inverter, and a 100 kW DG. The results showed a clear difference between the baseline DG-only system and the hybrid system regarding energy cost and carbon emissions. The energy price for the HRES is $0.107/kWh, and carbon dioxide emissions are reduced to 27,378 kg/yr from 184,917 kg/yr for the DG-only system. In addition, simulations and comparisons for an alternative HRES with a 60 kW DG were conducted. Based on the simulation results, the energy price was $0.091 instead of $0.19, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions were 15,847 kg/yr instead of 115,090 kg/yr. It was concluded that using hybrid renewable energy systems to power the irrigation of remote areas successfully reduced the energy cost, fuel consumption, emissions, and overall cost. The HOMER program makes an accurate comparison over extended periods between the four strategies (load following, cycle charging, combined dispatch, and predictive dispatch) and selects the optimal system based on the cost, emissions, fuel consumption, and percentage of renewable energy from the system. Speeding, which encompasses driving above the speed limits, is an aggravating factor in the severity of crashes. It has also serious consequences on the environment and energy consumption. This paper aims to thoroughly investigate the speeding behavior of Jordanian drivers through a comprehensive statistical analysis of driver speeding attitudes and behavior reaching to the most effective interventions and strategies that would mitigate this phenomenon. Data were collected through distributing a pre-designed questionnaire and receiving a total of 1,049 responses. The Public Security Directorate (PSD) provided the speed-related data. The collected data were subjected to rigorous statistical analysis including factor analysis, bivariate Pearson's correlation test, bivariate analysis, and multivariate logistic regression analysis. Based on the outcome of the study, potential measures for reducing speeding that would be both effective and personally acceptable in Jordan are recommended. The increasing demand for clean energy and the global shift towards renewable sources necessitate reliable solar radiation forecasting for the effective integration of solar energy into the energy system. Reliable solar radiation forecasting has become crucial for the design, planning, and operational management of energy systems, especially in the context of ambitious greenhouse gas emission goals. This paper presents a study on the application of auto-regressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) models for the seasonal forecasting of solar radiation in different climatic conditions. The performance and prediction capacity of ARIMA models are evaluated using data from Jordan and Poland. The essence of ARIMA modeling and analysis of the use of ARIMA models both as a reference model for evaluating other approaches and as a basic forecasting model for forecasting renewable energy generation are presented. The current state of renewable energy source utilization in selected countries and the adopted transition strategies to a more sustainable energy system are investigated. ARIMA models of two time series (for monthly and hourly data) are built for two locations and a forecast is developed. The research findings demonstrate that ARIMA models are suitable for solar radiation forecasting and can contribute to the stable long-term integration of solar energy into countries' systems. However, it is crucial to develop location-specific models due to the variability of solar radiation characteristics. The past decade has witnessed significant turmoil and political conflicts in several Middle Eastern countries, such as Egypt, Syria, and Libya, called the Arab Spring. These revolutions did not only affect the countries mentioned previously; their neighboring countries were also directly affected. This study explores the impact of the Syrian refugee influx on the stock exchange market of one of its neighboring countries, namely Jordan. The Syrian civil war represents a recent catastrophic event that has resulted in over three million refugees migrating to various countries worldwide. The main objective of this paper is to examine the effect of the Syrian war on Jordan's stock exchange market. The study utilizes the stock exchange indices as indicators of the performance of the exchange market, including Financials, Services, Industries, and General indices as dependent variables, and seven dummy variables are defined as representatives of the main events occurring in the Syrian civil war during the period 2011–2018 as independent variables. Multiple statistical analysis techniques, including correlation coefficients, error functions, and stepwise regression, are employed to analyze the selected variables. The findings reveal an inverse influence of the Syrian war on Jordan's stock market. This paper examines the financial factors affecting profitability across the listed Jordanian service companies. Insufficient attention has been paid to the influence of profitability specifically revealed by financial indicators. This study adopts the firm effect model. The investigation is established on panel data from 2015 to 2020, based on annual company reports. Regression was used to test the study hypotheses. The research sample is collected from the 46 public service firms listed. The profitability of Jordan’s service firms is measured by three proxies, including, Return on Equity (ROE), Earnings Per Share (EPS) and Return on Assets (ROA). The results reveal that firm size and liquidity positively and significantly impact profitability. Conversely, the findings verify that company efficiency and market power have no significant impact on profitability. Moreover, among Jordan’s service firms’ financial indicators, the findings confirm that neither firm nor sales growth have a significant influence on profitability, while sustainable growth rate has a positive, significant effect on profitability. The firm effects are higher for ROE than ROA and EPS. The study provides beneficial insights for managers and investors by providing effective policies designed to improve profitability. The results also provide shareholders with statistics that will ensure the profitability of companies operating in developing countries, such as Jordan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
