Background: At the 7th Electropalatography Symposium in Japan, held online on the 24 January 2021, a few speakers were invited to talk about how the COVID‐19 pandemic had impacted their research and/or speech therapy that involved the use of electropalatography (EPG) as well as the procedures adopted in order to continue their work in a safe manner. The information on protective measures when using instrumental techniques in speech research and therapy may be useful for colleagues in research and the clinic. Aims: The primary aims are: (1) to find out whether there are any published recommendations regarding protective measures for using EPG in research and clinic settings; (2) to discuss the impact of the pandemic and the corresponding restrictions and general protective measures directed (or advised) by local government and professional bodies at each stage of EPG work; and (3) to share experiences in using modified procedures for face‐to‐face EPG therapy sessions and combined EPG teletherapy. In addition, a brief overview of EPG and a summary of EPG research and clinical activities in Japan presented by one of the symposium organizers at the symposium are included. Methods & Procedures: A review of the literature regarding protective measures recommended for using EPG for speech assessment and treatment or research, supplemented by a discussion of our own experiences. Main Contribution: The literature review showed that there are no guidelines regarding protective measures for using EPG, but there is some advice regarding speech recording using microphones. Most published articles related to speech and language therapy (SLT) service during COVID‐19 are about telepractice or general clinical guidelines for face‐to‐face speech therapy sessions. The protective measures for using EPG developed based on the general guidelines recommended by local government and professional bodies (e.g., using visors, transparent acrylic board) were described. Using EPG in telepractice was discussed as well. Conclusions: It has been challenging to continue EPG research and therapy during the pandemic. In order to deal with this crisis, available knowledge regarding infection control and recommendations from local government and professional bodies were applied to design methods and procedures that allowed EPG research and therapy to continue. What this paper adds: What is already known on the subject: There are general protective measures recommended by local government and professional bodies regarding speech therapy sessions (e.g., using personal protective equipment (PPE), social distancing), but little is known about the measures for using instrumental techniques in speech research and therapy, particularly EPG. The equipment of each instrumental technique is different, so measures that are appropriate for one may not be suitable for others. Hence, specific recommendations are needed for EPG. What this paper adds to existing knowledge: This paper provides pointers to information about recommendations regarding protective measures for speech research and therapy, supplemented with suggestions specific to EPG provided by experienced users based on actual experience. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work?: In evaluating the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on EPG research and therapy, an analytical approach was taken to break down the steps involved in carrying out those activities, and the challenges we faced and the possible alternatives for completing the tasks were discussed. The article discusses the highlights of the 4th Single Topic Conference on Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC), which was held at the Westin Hotel, Awaji Island, Japan. Various papers pertaining to the differences in diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for HCC treatment between Japan and the West were discussed. These include the paper of Professor Kojiro of Kurume University on Japan's experience in treatment of, and research in, HCC. A discussion on evidence-based treatment algorithm used in Japan was also discussed at the conference.

Information about the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Technical Commission VIII Symposium held from August 9 to 12, 2010 in Tokyo, Japan is presented. Topics include the thematic areas of climate change, the cryosphere, mapping from space, and disaster monitoring. It states that the symposium was reflected in a good attendance with over 300 participants, from 31 countries, and 245 papers presented in four parallel sessions and interactive sessions.

The article presents information on the Congress impressions of a European participant of 9th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Anesthesiology, which was held during September 12-14, 2003 in Fukuoka, Kyushu, Japan. Roughly one half of the free papers were case reports and the other half were study reports including experimental results from animal studies such as, characterization of monochrotalin-induced pulmonary hypertension in rats: young rats verses pneumonectomized adult rats'. The rooms for poster presentations were crowded with participants and after each presentation, vivid discussions followed.

This article presents information on the Thirld World Congress on Computational Mechanics (WCCM III) to be held in Japan, during August 1-5, 1994. The congress is organized by the International Association for Computational Mechanics. The general form of the WCCM III will follow those of the preceding Congresses. The organizing committee, however, wishes to place emphasis on the following points: an ambitious programme will be planned to cover challenging topics in basic sciences and technologies; a number of best papers will be given awards through recommendation of an international paper reviewing committee; promising young researchers from all over the world will be encouraged to attend the Congress.

The Hungarian Contact Dermatitis Group was established in November 1993. Members of the Managing Board have been elected . The International Contact Dermatitis Research Group wishes to encourage research by endowing a Niels Hjorth Prize. An original, unpublished paper is invited and a committee will select the winner. The article presents information on the 4th Asian Oceania Epilepsy Organization (AOEO). AOEO was founded at the 25th Annual Congress of the Japan Epilepsy Society (JES) with Dr.M. Seino as the President. The 4th AOEC was held in collaboration with the 36th Annual Congress of the JES from September 11 to 14, 2002 in Karuizawa, Japan. It was an important milestone in the history of development of epileptology and epilepsy care in Asia in terms of the richness of its scientific program and the large number of participants. The scientific program consisted of one special lecture, four symposia, two workshops, eight didactic lectures, the ILAE/IBE/WHO Global Campaign Meeting and 332 free papers.

The 1990 Biennial Conference of the International Association of Oral Pathologists was held in Tokyo, Japan from July 2-5, 1990 under the able direction of pathology researcher Tetsuo Ishiki and his colleagues. Over 500 participants representing 26 countries enjoyed a stimulating meeting which was professionally and socially most rewarding. Several symposia on specific topics were conducted. These included sessions on oral cancer, implants and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. A wide range of individual papers covered the full spectrum of oral pathology and oral medicine.
